You probably should get Tacview to see what's really going on with the Mig-15. I watched back a 35 min dogfight I had with a Mig-15 yesterday as well as a few other dogfights and I couldn't see anything majorly off with the climbs the Mig was doing. Tacview shows the telemetry of the Mig and I haven't come across any instance where the Mig-15 climbed up when it shouldn't have been able to due to lack of airspeed.

I don't understand DCS World v DCS:WWII
Foul Ole Ron replied to Hood's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Now that it's all with ED everything will be in DCS World - there won't be any separate entity. Your Dora key will allow you to fly the Dora anywhere. -
How to fly, fight and have a good time in DCS F-86
Foul Ole Ron replied to Maico249th's topic in DCS: F-86F Sabre
That'd be great if we all had RL sticks with proper extensions for the right amount of throw. For some of us using the curves helps to better simulate how the stick would probably be IRL for most of the throw range though we might suffer a bit at the outer range. There can also be other reasons like quality issues with the stick e.g. pot jitter, stick movement inaccuracy, etc. and a curve can help to lessen the impact of these. -
Nice vid. If you get Tacview you can see the types of climbs the Mig does - I noticed that my climbs were more vertical than his and I was turning more sharply to try and get guns on him quicker. This was causing me to lose energy quicker until eventually he built up a decent energy advantage over me and could climb away from me at will. I've started to try and fly more smooth curves to avoid this happening and seems to be working better.

I thought dedi servers were going to be released along with EDGE? Or at least that was the original plan and this may have changed. Proper dedi servers would help with MP lag I'd presume.

It's been reported already and will be fixed.

[REPORTED] Fw 190 Cockpit Bar! (answer Post #173)
Foul Ole Ron replied to Krupi's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
From the screenshots I've seen of the DCS 190 I don't think the canopy frame bars are going to be an issue. In another sim that has the 190 they're a massive hindrance to visibility and look way thicker than they would if refraction was taken into account. -

Foul Ole Ron replied to Krupi's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
It's the bar and the canopy frame bars on each side. The former shouldn't obstruct the gun sight and the latter should not appear as thick as it would otherwise do. I guess the impact of making it look right on the inside is that the 3D exterior model won't look fully right. Unless refraction is actually modelled it's one or the other really and seeing as we spend most of our time in the cockpit would seem to make sense to simulate refraction. -
Check your control settings - the electrical sight uncage doesn't have anything assigned to it by default even though the quickstart manual says TAB.
-
Also a lot of the F-86F cockpits that I've seen don't have the compass screwed in right at the top of the canopy frame. It's a really poor place for it and gets in the way during combat. Most of the cockpit pictures show it bottom left or right.

It's really not that awkward once you get used to it. I don't know how close to reality - from reading this page it does sound sensitive and probably takes a RL pilot a little while to get used to: http://www.vintagewings.ca/VintageNews/Stories/tabid/116/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/145/language/fr-FR/520-Knots-Baby-Hawk-Ones-First-Flight.aspx It's an early 50s design - stands to reason it's not going to be as effective or well-designed as the A10-C.
-
You have to anticipate. Start to make your turn and then about half way through centre your rudder pedals but keep holding down the NWS and it'll result in you then going straight as the wheel centres itself.

60 .50 cal rounds sounds reasonable - especially depending on where you land the rounds. They're not a massive round compared to the 23mm cannon round that the Mig-15 has. You've got to land a decent burst to make up for the lower destructiveness of the .50 cal round. On the upside it has better ballistic qualities than the 23mm cannon round, is much more quick firing and you can carry a lot more of it.

[REPORTED] Fw 190 Cockpit Bar! (answer Post #173)
Foul Ole Ron replied to Krupi's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
Yep looks like DCS can't model defraction so they've gone the workaround of making the canopy frame be thinner in appearance than it actually would be. This should keep people appeased (at least in relation to this one point). -
no entry of f86 in the server.lua file?
Foul Ole Ron replied to 9.JG27 DavidRed's topic in DCS: F-86F Sabre
Yep would like to know how to do this too. Have a similar setup in CloD and find it works well. I keep to 90 for most of the time except for quick jumps to 30 for a shot. -
electrical caging button-does it do anything?
Foul Ole Ron replied to 9.JG27 DavidRed's topic in DCS: F-86F Sabre
Check your control mapping. In the quick start manual it says to hit Tab to uncage the electrical sight and I mapped this to my hotas. But then in the game it was doing anything. When I checked the control mapping this function actually didn't have anything mapped to it. You're better off not using Tab too as that's MP chat. Once I'd mapped the function and updated my hotas it started to work as expected i.e. once you hold it down it freezes in the sight and then you release once you get a solid radar lock on the target in front of you. -
How using the "Red warning light on the gunsight"...
Foul Ole Ron replied to Skulleader's topic in DCS: F-86F Sabre
You have to get very close before it'll do a solid lock. Try with the instant action intercept mission where you have to shoot down a transport plane. You can creep up behind it and see how close you need to be for a solid lock. -
With the guns it seems like you really have to get very close before a solid radar lock. Assuming that's correct and I'm not doing something wrong how did the guys in RL handle it? Did they dial it in manually to give themselves a decent approximation like with the K-14 and then uncage once they got close enough and into a steady enough position to get a solid lock on the enemy in front of them?

Just picked it up now too - $35 after using my bonus scheme. Bargain! -

Not announced yet - would assume $50. -
Yes DK1 and DK2 are prototypes aimed mainly at developers so they can have games ready for when CV1 is released. It's handy as well for OR devs for consumers to get their hands on the early versions as it builds hype and gets some wider feedback. But I would assume developers are their main target group. A peripheral with no games that support it is useless after all. Personally I'm waiting until CV1 hits the market before buying. I don't think you'd want anything less than the resolution it'll have for flight sims at least. As for the view a user sees when using the rift it's just one screen. The two screens are necessary to give the 3D effect which is what a third party sees on a monitor but the user just sees one combined screen.

The backers link page is being updated - once it's sorted out there'll be an official post.

That's correct though not sure why it doesn't make sense? They're going to be two fairly different planes what with the different engines and the Mk. XIV is going to be the low-backed, clipped wing version probably running at +21lbs boost. VEAO are starting off by making planes they have direct access to and the Mk. XIV is one.

How will the FW190 Trims be handled?
Foul Ole Ron replied to alfredo_laredo's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
It must have required constant pilot correction then via the stick or pedals. When flying the Mustang there's always trimming to be done. I'd doubt very much that the 190 is any different except that the pilot has to handle the aileron and rudder trim with the stick and pedals which might be a bit of a pain during long climbs. -
+1 They've got all our KS details so I would expect to receive a key that I can use to activate in DCS World on August 5th.
