Add functionality for NDBs and AFD navigation
LostOblivion replied to LostOblivion's topic in DCS Wishlist
Yes, it is there, which is why I find it strange it is absent in DCSW. If you set your UHF radio to ADF, the needle will point to what seems to be the north side of the middle of the map, as if they "barely" left it out. -
Add functionality for NDBs and AFD navigation
LostOblivion replied to LostOblivion's topic in DCS Wishlist
Of course they have ADF navigation, it is just not modeled by ED. -
You can toggle looking around in the cockpit using Alt+C. I'd deffo get TrackIR5, though. ;)

What about NDBs and ADF? They are essential to contemporary commercial flight, and are not present in DCSW even though you have said there is code for NDBs already in the engine. What about a better graphical user interface? The current one is barely functional, and not pretty to look at. Especially the multiplayer one, which provides the bare minimum for what is needed. Why not make a multiplayer GUI that is similar to say that of RoF? There is nothing wrong with that. What about some better explosions and effects, and graphics in general. What about birds flying around? What about some more realistic/lifelike airport/runway lighting and curved runways like there is in X-Plane 10? How about configurable generated civilian air traffic? How about autonomous airport ground crew and vehicles? How about some larger sceneries, such as the entirety of Europe? This would cover a lot of countries and combat scenarios. What about proper ATC with flight plans, approaches, centers, navigation, ground control? The current one is barely working. And don't get me started on all the bugs and crashes. It is nothing wrong with aiming for the skies, and Eagle Dynamics have already done really, really well with the series so far, why not take it further by spending more time, or hiring more people, to achieve these goals? During the last decade, ED, with the introduction of LOMAC and DCS, has set the definite standard for high fidelity, precisely modeled flight simulation for the desktop computer. Right now, most flight sim enthusiasts are off playing FSX or X-Plane, but I do not doubt a second that ED can take over this entire market if they play their cards right, and extend their engine to envelop all aspects of flight simulation, military and civilian. I wanted to do a standard instrument approach today to Krasnodar rwy 23L, holding in pattern at Ryazanskaya NDB before turning in to capture the localizer. First I tried in DCS, but no support for ADF. Then I tried in FSX, but the dial to select ADF frequency for the NDB at 312 did not work in the aircraft I was in. Then I fired up the X-Plane demo, where I could not even use the virtual cockpit to turn the knobs. There is no doubt, DCS is the only realistic choice for a flight enthusiast. It appears to me they are focusing so much on modeling each aircraft so well (and really well too!), that they are forgetting about the other important aspects of a video game, which are sorely needed to attract more customers in today's demanding market. There is nothing wrong in working with many things at once, which you have also stated yourselves. My guess is that all of this is actually happening, and that all of the things I have mentioned have been considered, but naturally it takes time. No offense at all. :) Lost

I would love to see this for ED as well. With the fidelity and attention to detail they put into their aircraft, I am sure the general flight sim market would be very interested if ED additionally paid more attention to other things than the aircraft themselves, such as bigger sceneries, more attention to graphics, a better graphical user interface, air traffic control (just steal exactly what MSFS has, and I'll be happy), to mention some. I searched the forums and found this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=27478&highlight=ADF+NDB What happened to NDB and ADF navigation in DCS: A-10C Warthog, and will this be implemented in future modules of DCS, such as DCS: F/A-18C Hornet, if be it? I am really missing this feature from DCS, and I think it would bring a lot of fun into what is already a really good flight simulator. Lost

Bailing out in the upcoming DCS: P-51D Mustang
LostOblivion replied to LostOblivion's topic in DCS Wishlist
Surely if they modeled it, you would do it anyway. :P The problem is that this means they'd have to swap out the cockpit aircraft model with the external aircraft model at some point during the animation, which I assume is fairly hard to do. -
Bailing out in the upcoming DCS: P-51D Mustang
LostOblivion replied to LostOblivion's topic in DCS Wishlist
Lol, had to laugh there, but really, something like that would be fun methinks. The least thing they have to do, is make a proper bail out animation, possibly also from the cockpit view of the pilot. This is HARD!! :O -
I originally posted this in the 40-page long official announcement, but as people are more occupied with whining up there, I thought I'd post it here. Will there be a possibility to pop the canopy and then jump out? Will this be a matter of hitting ctrl+e three times or will we have to first pop the canopy with a dedicated switch and then do something additional to actually jump out? It would definately be cool if the latter, and also it would be cool if you made the functionality to "stand up", and "jump out", as well as "sit down" after having stood up, so ejecting is a lot harder than in say the Ka-50. So if I want to bail out, I pull the canopy ejection handle, press ctrl+e to crouch on the seat, losing control of the aircraft, naturally, shift+e to sit back down, or ctrl+e to continue jumping out. Also, another ctrl+e while falling would pull the parachute cord and deploy the parachute. This would put some real immersion into bailing out, which I personally think would be appropriately realistic, seeing as how bailing out back then was a fairly big deal compared to today. Not exactly this, but a lot of other, small features and animations are currently featured in Rise of Flight, with great success, such as the pilot waving to signal others, or, just recently, being able to point and fire an actual signal flare gun, and also the M1911 pistol, all from within the cockpit. It really adds a lot of immersion to the game, and after all, this makes more sense for a second world war era aircraft, than say the A-10. Also, did the pilots back then occasionally meet the tragic consecuence of hitting the elevators after having jumped out? If so, could this possibly be modeled? Cheers, looking forward to flying this thing with a real FM, not the boring and well aged Il-2. Lost

I'll definately buy a module that models a civilian aircraft, but they will have to make huge improvements to mainly the ATC and make bigger areas to fly in, e.g. all of western Europe, for this to be a success. Not just that, but they'd have to model all the airways, VORs, a lot more civilian AI aircraft, airport ground traffic, advanced weather configurations, as well as tonnes of other things that would be too much to mention here. I'd love to see DFS: Digital Flight Simulator: Boeing 737-800 modeled to the fidelity and accuracy of the DCS standard, with a fully interactive cockpit, accurate flight model, and handling, as well as fully MP compatible with the DCS series. Awesome? Defenately. Feasible? Not so much. BUMP: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1379095&postcount=414

Could you please, please upload some 1920x1080 screen shots so we can all drool at this also while at work, thank you!:music_whistling:

The counterargument to manually selecting a program is the time it takes for the pilot to do so, in which case it is sometimes more effective to start popping flares early in semi- or auto-modes, instead of popping them too late. There is no point starting the perfect CMS program if the igla has already hit you. ;)

Are there not camera effects from G-forces in the game already? :)
-
Right then, do you have anything constructive to say? I thought not. Fixed your capitalization and punctuation. Do not assume anything, and be more positive, every thread I see you post in, is just all nagging and getting warned for offending other posters. It was not in DCS: A-10C Warthog, and I never played LOMAC.
-
I do not mind seeing this in a modern setting. I think they will not attempt at making "another" WW2 sim, but if they modeled one or two additional AI axis aircraft and ground vehicles, it would make for some simplified, simulated WW2 era missions, or simulated, simulated missions, rather. Either way, it will be a lot of fun flying this aircraft.

Is that canopy crazing I see? Either that, or raindroplets. Seeing as both are welcome with me, I am extatic.

Near Zero Visibility ILS landing
LostOblivion replied to FOXFIRE TWOONE's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Take off from Batumi with 150 m visibility fog, with your HUD dimmed completely and both MFCDs turned off. Then navigate to Tbilisi using only the VORTACs and ILS. You will have to write down all the frequencies you need beforehand, naturally, as the good pilot you are. Good luck! Need a bigger challenge? Add a thunderstorm with 8+ m/s cross/rearwinds at the destination airport. -
Possibility to add player tower and approach operators to airfields in multiplayer.

There is so much incorrect behaviour and bugs in this game, so much that it fails to meet the quality standard of contemporary computer games. Many people, except the hardcore flight sim fans, give up playing this game because they get mad at all the crashes, glitches, bugs, annoyances. If ED wants to maintain their fairly new mainstream gamer customer base (Steam, et al.), they should first eliminate all the annoyances that make this series look like cheap work to them compared to many other games, improve the GUI, graphics, effects, etc. These are improvements that would not affect the simulation fidelity of the series, other that putting off simulation research and simulation modelling in time.

Memory advantage 8 GIG vs 16 GIG?
LostOblivion replied to Fakum's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
More RAM means slower RAM, especially if you are going to overclock your system. -
I heard the wings do not bend much IRL on the hog because of its sturdy construction.

The complexity of computer systems in the a-10
LostOblivion replied to foxfour's topic in Military and Aviation
I think that "good ui design" is based a lot on user intuition, and that this intuition is once again based a lot on experience through many many hours of systems use. Keep in mind that these systems were designed at a time where computer systems in general had not been used extensively at all, so all things considered I find the ui in the A-10 very good actually. -
Meh, it is getting old. What we really need are some new really old planes! if that makes sense..

Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
LostOblivion replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Lol. Like me? I wouldn't mind buying another HOTAS for say the hornet, even if it ment living off noodles for three months. :) Edit: Depends on how different it is, anyone have any good pictures of the hornet HOTAS?
