  8. Happy Birthday, man! I dont know what kind of celebrations are to be had out there in the back woods of Kentucky, but I hope it includes booze and boobs! :D
  9. I cant give you any hard evidence, only the speedtest.net info. We dont keep track of bandwith usage and or client loads. I can tell that 2mbit upload will probably be more than enough for your squad exercises. If you want a sever that can handle large client loads like 3Sqn (LOCERF server) 169th (BSS Server) and 104th, all who can handle 60+ client loads, you need more than 10mbit/sec upload speed and at least a Core 2 Duo (E6400 or higher) processor.
  10. Its the upload speed that is important. With 2MBit upload you can probably handle 10 to 15 clients without too much lag. There are more variables invovled such as mission size, etc. But the upload is going to be the limiting factor for you. Edit If the location is not important, I would be glad to hook you up with our provider. He provides servers for us (the 159th) 3sqn and the 51st. If you want more info PM me.
  11. Some good points, thanks A.S.! As moderating staff we try hard to ensure that mission settings are set the same each time to take the guess work out of what settings afford certain benefits. I know that scenes set on low on the server side gives excellent frame rates and that in turn is proportional to the amount of stability. The problem is that many missions rely on groundpounders striking buildings that are removed with scenes on low and that is why there was hesitation in going to low scenes. There were several LOCERF's that were set to medium scenes with similar mission size, running ATC, etc,... and they didn't have the same issues that were seen in 08-3. The amount of client drops (correct me if I am wrong, Goya) were over 10. Basically I'm wondering if the radical changes to everyones meinit, via new models that are out, are influencing some of these disconnect issues. Should server admins start adding mods to their servers???
  12. I wanted to get everyone’s opinion, even those who dont know what they’re talking about. Recently there has been increased stability issues associated with running LOCERF and client loads over 50. I know that lockon was never meant to be run with those numbers and multiplayer is buggy etc. But we know it can be done. There were several LOCERF's, BSS's and other events that have hosted upper 60 to 70 client loads with modest stability and reliability. What I am wondering (and maybe I can get some Dev feedback also) is what role the meinit plays in over all stability between host and client. Can we expect a stock install on the server side and a heavily modded meinit with new models etc on the client side to play well together? Testing, etc., has lead me to believe that the closer the two are in similarity, the less errors there are and less likelihood that there will be stability issues. How this will play out, if there is some validity to the above, is that we would make recommendations for exact meinit edits in order to ensure a higher probability of a stable LOCERF experience. So if you have 200+ skins for your Su-25t, and your KC-10A model is replaced with a giant zeppelin that shoots laser beams, you won't wonder why your lockon crashed as you were about to win LOCERF for your team.
  13. Awesome movie GA! Loved your choice of music!!!! The Used is from my neck of the woods and we used to go see them before they got big. So much Mormon oppression makes for excellent music. (No offense to the any LDS out there).

    DCS vs. H.A.W.X

This screenshot proves that it is an arcade game. You cant have a study SIM with a AV-8 that has afterburners....
  15. Thats for checking... I'm getting some other strange artifacts. I think its time for a fresh install **gasps**
  16. Sorry if this has already been brought to the attention of the devs, but I have ntoiced when I use the SPS pod on the SU-25A, that the laser desingator dosen't work. I am also unable to select the Kh-29'Ls while in pit. Can anyone confirm that this is an issue?
  17. I'm guessing you're not only new to lock-on, but life also? I'm not trying to be condescending, I just think you should follow 159th_Viper's instructions here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=479642&postcount=84 You need to do your homework; just posting that you are ready to join a squad does not mean that they are going to come to you. Just like a Fraternity or Sorority, you need to show that you are actually interested in what the squad is about before you can just join up with them. Edit: The Sorority Squads around here know who they are! :D
  18. Well I agree that AI is rediculous and very rarely mimics a human pilot, there are many instances when it can be used to learn about the important aspects of air to air combat. Rich has done a great job in his tutorials and his lesson on dodging Aim-54's was one of the first lessons I took before jumping on-line. The chart that Viper gave you was based on the need to estimate distances using the SPO. This is seen in an ECM environment when you can detect the jammer but dont know its range. Using other cues available to you, its possible to guess what aircraft your up against, use the SPO to estimate his range and then take a successful HOJ shot. If done correctly the missle arrives one or two seconds after burn through and by the time the pilot reacts its too late. The only thing I can tell you is to study Rich's tutorials and practice using AI to estimate range. Take tracks of every engagement you enter and critique yourself afterwards. In time the SPO will become second nature, practice, practice, practice! Edit: Oh yeah, head on a swivel. Another Fudd once told me "you would be amazed the stuff you see once you take your head out of the cockpit..." lol
  19. What?? I would never do such a thing :D Oh look, a froggy in my HTD... Splat!
  20. ;) I feel honored that your pilots wish to participate in LOCERF. I hope they continue to want to do so and that we can put these issues behind us.
  21. All the rules that you were subject to were published before your participation in Red Flag. Some of them were not published where they were easily accessible, but they were accepted by all who participated. You were not singled out unfairly. Obviously there is a language barrier that we must overcome; none of these rules were set in malice to persecute you. This is not to say that we are not open to suggestions. If you have ideas that would make the scoring process better, then feel free to POLITELY post them over on the 159th forums. Because this is a community event, it will be open to discussion within the community and a final decision will be rendered by the moderators. DarkWanderer: you can complain about being unfairly treated all you want, but in reality we are trying to make this a fair event for all--yourself included.
  22. It is reasonable. The reason why the Russian pilots were not spilt by squads and separated between Red and Blue forces in LOCERF 08-1 was because of the language barrier. I wanted the Russian pilots to participate, but I didn’t want language difficulties to be an issue. Again LOCERF is not about East versus West, it’s about squads working with different squads. I know that each of the squads in LOCERF, the 159th included, would appreciate the opportunity to fly with you (you have some really excellent pilots). It makes that more of a possibility when we can split you into smaller squad flights rather than by your country (or language). Please do not see this as a punishment. Please see it as an opportunity to get to know and fly with other squads in the community.
  23. I apologize for posting in English, hopefully either Dragony or DarkWanderer will translate. I'm not going to throw accusations out as far as the lack of integrity is concerned. It is disappointing, but nonetheless I want to focus on what LOCERF stands for. This is a community event Gentlemen, designed to foster good relations throughout, regardless of where your from. This is not an east versus west or even a red versus blue type of an event. That is why we alternate the players on the teams and have squads working with other squads as much as possible. In order to continue in this fine tradition we are going to split up the Russian squads for the next event. Some will be flying on the blue team and some on red. You will request slots in flights of 3 or 4 pilots with at least one English speaking pilot per flight. This will not only ensure that you get the opportunity to fly with others from the commmunity but it will also increase the chances that you get the airframe of your choice. I look forward to your continued participation and I will see you in the skies in LOCERF 08-3 159th_Fudd
  24. You can use the Kh-58 in this mission. Remeber Gentlemen, that the missions change every LOCERF. If it dosent state it in the briefing then you can use it. Kh-58's were not allowed in LOCERF 08-1 because of mission design only. (Dark Wanderer, please translate)
  25. That’s not always the case as seen in LOCERF, but it’s a function of the quality of planning and the ability to make changes to the plan based on the threat. I don’t think mission planning is actually the problem, it’s only a symptom. If you were to break the community in to two groups, you would have those that belong to squads and those who don’t. I would say that a majority of those that fly in squads are open to organized flying and actually coordinating an effort. Often times the energy and time that this takes is saved for squad training events and community events such as LOCERF, BSS, etc. Many of those who don’t fly in squads are not interested in the extra time it takes to plan, learn comms and coordinate with those they are flying with. There are a few 'lonewolfs' that are an exception to this but the point I'm trying to make is, myself included, sometimes I just want to hop into a server a shoot $hit. It’s not all bad, because there can be a lot to learn in an “air-quake” environment. I think that we need to appreciate those that spend the amazing amount of time and money on dedicated servers. I do a subpar job of hosting the 159th server and its plenty of work. I can’t imagine the work that goes into hosting well administrated dedis like 3Sqn, 51st 169th 104th, etc. In order to change the type of environment of the server you’re flying in you have to be an example of change. If you show up with a well organized squad or group of players all on comms, in order for the other side to compete they must do the same. I've seen it happen several times. Even if its typing over chat the other team must become more organized in order to play on the same level. There are plenty of avenues for an organized experience. Participate in community events as previously described, organize your team as I illustrated above, or invite other squads to matches either privately or on HL. That’s my 2cents...
