  2. Nice shop there . and i see 2 very familiar air compressors on this pic: http://rippsgaragetech.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/2014-09-22-20.49.56-366x206.jpg curious what device where these salvaged from. (I'm using one of these for laser air assist) As far as thread milling ... I think you just hurt my religious beliefs a little. But I guess whatever gets the work done :)
  3. This looks like a nice machine. I do want to have a small mill but aside of cost I just don't have any more floorspace left for it in my garage :music_whistling: How do you plan to cut the threads? Threading die?
  4. First time I hear this. On what are you basing this "supposedly" ?
  5. Good news indeed
  6. Good to see you back Gadroc.
  7. Ian, this is some great stuff. Spent some time digging through your code, it feels like insides of my head are about to boil. I don't have to much problems working with my hands, but that stuff... Hats off to you! Cant come up with the exact location where, but it looks like you are preparing to extract the contents of CDU in a text form . or was it my imagination? The altimeter is awesome as well.
  9. real CMSP is 5.75" wide, i don't think standard 20x2 can be squeezed in there (at least i couldn't), hence the 16x2 limitation. but if real dimensions are not a concern then the bigger one is certainly better, with extra spaces the info will be easier to read.
  10. looks good. what CNC are you getting?
  11. if it is a compact, plug-n-play,somewhat economically priced device that you need then of course TMWH is very good solution. and comes with a stick as well. but it is not 1:1 replica - throttle is considerably scaled down to fit on your desktop. size of controls and range of motion feels completely different . for someone who want's the best, who is comfortable with DIY stuff, and ready to spend some funds this is a very worthy purchase . i really like it and can't wait to fly with it. thanks DM, will when i again can
  12. SPDT ON-OFF-(ON) is the correct notation for the 2 ENGINE OPER switches. DPDT will also do (extra pole is not hurting anything) EDIT: here is one for not to much money.but its not locking or military grade http://www.bgmicro.com/dpdtcenteroffmomentaryonesidepanelmount.aspx BTW, CMSP panel uses 4 of these in case you will go for making that panel in non-replica form.
  13. the throttle is not "fly-by-wire", but that depends on what you mean by that. the handles actuate some sort of position readout device via mechanical linkages. those devices are not mounted on throttle assembly of which this topic talks about. on the picture you can see pair of bearings the linkages were attached to. the two small "04THV" linckages that you see actuate bank of 10 limit switches per engine via adjustable cam. that entire assembly is not needed for our purposes (IRL probably has to do with some sort of additional engine control sub-system) i have an idea of how i will be mounting magnets and hall sensors here, but don't have anything substansial to show for it yet.
  14. quite simple, borderline trivial project. there is nothing electronic on the handle axii to interface with (the micro-switch bank on this unit for our purpose can be disregarded). either use regular potentiometers :) for connecting straight to joystick board. or use hall sensors, not much more elaborate either. the only thing of question here is how to physical mount your position detecting solution (which is also not rocket science). and then obviously one will need to work out how to update it to the C variant i do wonder however, is the panel on it back-lit at all? i didn't notice any light generating elements on the one i got.

    DCS: Hawk

  18. I got two sets to make the last run happen and only need one. after DM offloads his my extra set can also be availabe to those in need.

  20. This is great stuff Ian. Indeed consider providing some way to facilitate donations.
  21. thanks Peter, export Lua really gives me an idea of what is going on there. is there any way to debug it during the run? i wonder what other values selfData.Name can have. and just out of curiosity, do you laser direct from Visio files?
  22. Very happy mpressive Indeed . I wonder what equipment you have installed behind the seat.
  23. Looks really good. that dual stepper I already have on order as well as the driving ICs. Going over Ian's and boltz's solutions I still down't have grasp of Export and arduino code , so that is something g I'm really curious about.
  24. Wiring is a fun stage (even though my didn't get t that level f complexity), masochistic fun ). Perhaps consider using ribbon cables more? I'm not getting rid of my old IDE cables for that specific reason, collected quite a stack :)
  25. Yes pictures please :) Temperatures are definetly not cooperating. Aside of troubles painting, when it's near freezing the fumes from the laser tend to condense on the very cold part giving a nasty smelling resedue. And then there are times when the bucket of colant water is one blob of ice altogether :) blowing the water out of the laser tube is essential at my place.
