I guess the same you would get with a Il2 against a field of Mk V WWI tanks... Or the same you would get with a Delta Force squad against the 300 Spartans of Leonidas. Or the same you would get with a Modern Task Force against the full Japanese Fleet at Pearl Harbour (Final countdown I'm looking at you...) You can't compare warfare from two different eras. It is just not comparable...

That is a nice chart, if you don't mind, I will take it :music_whistling:

This is what worked for me for the A10C: - Read the manual. - Play the tutorials several times each, until you feel confident. - Read the manual again. Now that you have experience with the basics, the manual will be more clear, and you will understand stuff than previously you couldn't grasp. - Fly some basic missions, either free flight or "training" missions. - Ask in the forums about your doubts with some of the systems.

To be honest I don't see the F18C flying CAP like the Eagle or doing CAS like the Harrier / A10C / Su25. The only one which can take a hit on sales is the Mirage 2000, which has the same multirole Gen4 appeal, or the Viggen, which is a pure strike aircraft. Anyway, almost each one of the DCS modules is special enough to justify the purchase. The hornet can be the jack of all trades but master of none. You can do everything on it, but you can't do it better than specialiced hulls will do.

New to DCS, Need Help with Saitek X52 for A10C
Eviscerador replied to Cacher's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Don't use the Saitek software. Download the Logitech one for the Joystick. Much better. It will help you to use the thumbstick for slewing and the mouse button and the wheel for other uses (I use the mouse button for brakes and the Pinky + mouse for landing gear, and the wheel for the boat switch) Other than that, using the pinky button as modifier will give you more than enough room to fit everything in a single set. -
You need to be trimmed for the PAC 2 to engage. If you are doing the run and you are applying any force to the stick, the PAC won't engage and then it will happen as you said. I will recommend you the same some other forumites told me months ago. Pick the "sitting ducks" mission with the Hog and train your gun runs. Once you train yourself with the proper timings, diving angle and trim, everything will go smoothly. Then when you have enough training on gun runs, you can start "forcing" the envelope and train pot shots (fast trimming while turning so you are trimmed when the pipper is on target, fire and leave)

Remember to switch to the fuselage tank after take off, use it up and then switch to the left / right tanks from time to time to balance the plane. Starting in the left tank is important because the excess of fuel is returned back to the left tank so you need to have some spare space on it for proper engine working.

good performance in 2.5 despite old rig
Eviscerador replied to Hog_No32's topic in Game Performance Bugs
So it looks like the main bottlenecks for the game are the HDD and the RAM. Good to know. I have a rig similar to yours but without SSD and only 8 Gb of RAM. I just can't run 2.5. Loading times are on the tens of minutes per game, and then another minute or so until I can move around without frame drops. I will give it a try again with the 2.5.1 version to see if I can run that. Fingers crossed. -
To be honest after flying the Su 25 I found that for everything except firing the Vkir missile, the Su 25 gunsight is just much better. The Shkval has a poor FoV, only two zoom presets and poor resolution. What I do to find targets is, in case it is possible, locate them visually and once I got the battlefield situation, use the Shkval to pinpoint mark my targets for laser guided missiles. Hope it helps.

Vehicle mounted guns too accurate
Eviscerador replied to schurem's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
Nobody said the problem is not there. It has been raised to the devs and I guess they are doing dev stuff. What I told you is that you can avoid most of the threat of such vehicles with the advice given in the previous thread. Or you can keep whining, whatever you desire. -
Vehicle mounted guns too accurate
Eviscerador replied to schurem's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
I already faced what you said. I recommend you to take a look at a lot of good advice people gave me in this topic: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=206210 So yeah, BMP 2 and 3 are like entry level AAA if you fly low and make newbie mistakes, like any newbie does when is starting. All I can tell you is that following the advice given in that thread, my kill ratio improved a lot against AAA, and I've never had a problem with BMPs or even BTRs anymore. PS: Yeah, I also have been shot down in a Su25T by a T55 main gun... -
There are some places in the Caucasus map where some of the zoom charts appear blank. I guess because there isn't a proper flight chart (map) for that zoom on that place. Happens mostly in the russian zone.

Why not Flamming Cliffs 3? it is a great access module. Sure it is not study level of detail, but if you don't want complicated planes, there you have a nice selection of fighters, interceptors, GAA and carrier planes with several missions and campaigns. If not, I've heard that the F5E is a nice module if you like simple aircraft with attack capabilities. If you want study level of detail, the best (at least till the Hornet arrives) is the A10C, but if you don't like the plane, then it is OK.

I will recommend what I did. I backed up the DCS folder in the saved games folder under my user name. Then I installed DCS 2.5 on Steam (I have 1.5.8. in stand alone) Tested it, saw it was too much for my current rig, and I uninstalled it. If you just want to check the viability of the build in your hardware, you don't need to import all the mudles, just fly around for 20 min in amy of the free flight instant missions availables for either the Su25T or the TF51 Cheers!

You don't need to set each target as SPI. Just make the TGP your SOI (which should be for slewing anyway) and create a mark point whenever you find a target. Once you finish (or just got 4-6 markpoints, one for each Mav) go to the UFC, set the EGI to Mark, cycle marks, slave to SPI and launch all the things! This way you don't need to set any SPI or waste time changing the SPI from steerpoint to TGP or HUD. You can do it in a few seconds.

Question about the A10C survivability
Eviscerador replied to Eviscerador's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Update! I've been capable of killing Shilkas and BTRs no problem with the gun so far. Now I take much more time to plan my attack instead of going head on to the first vehicle I see. I also practiced how to properly use the PAC system, and it is amazing. Step by step, I'm feeling more confident every mission. Now I just need a good mission to practice JTAC coordinates and the OFFSET CDU page + BULLSEYE. Thank you all for your tips, please keep them comming! PS: I printed and plastified the JTAC 9 liner sheet that somebody showed in this topic and got a waterboard marker. It works great, but now my wife thinks I'm crazy. Maybe I am :music_whistling::lol: PS2: I have also increased my performance and tactics in the Su 25 and Su 25T thanks to the tips here. -
Question about the A10C survivability
Eviscerador replied to Eviscerador's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I guess I expected flying an IL2 sturmovik, capable of just shruging off everything but high caliber explosive shells like in the IL-2 sim, but nope. Concerning what several of you talked about, what dive angle are we talking about? 40-50º? higher? I'm usually attacking in 20-25º dives which is what I read and was told in the tutorials. Glad to know the gun is not what I feared, a weapon of last resort against very soft targets. Thank you for your comments, they have been helpful. (or so I hope when I take the stick again later this week ) -
Question about the A10C survivability
Eviscerador replied to Eviscerador's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Thank you everyone, your answers have been very helpful. I will read those documents and I will take a look at those YouTube channels. Concerning the qualification campaigns, thank you for your tip, I already knew about that. I did my homework before buying them (and noticed that a few steam reviews were bad just because of what you said) The thing is that I have read a lot and I even repeated some of the training missions several times to mess with the TGP options and the CDU pages. I know how to use Mark points, how to use the off set page in the CDU and how to create waypoints or Flightplans, but I'm very green in applying that knowledge to real missions under pressure. Also in training missions nobody shoot at you, so I first though that the Hawg was capable of just shrug off heavy MG fire or non AAA fire like IFV or tanks MGs but I found the hard way that the armour is there just to help you survive till you reach the base, but being hit is most of the time a mission failed, return to base scenario (sure, in RL that is the idea after all...) So that was the reason of most of my questions. Usual greenie stuff :joystick:. As I already said, thank you very much to all for your replies, I will practice even more! -
Hello everyone. After a lot of reading and a lot of repeating the training missions, I felt ready to play one of the scripted missions. I picked "surrounded!" which looked like a mission to practice markpoints, several weapons and JTAC coordination. It was my first "live" mission with enemy AAA and SAM firing at you, so I begun taking hits and suffering several failures which also served to train my emergency procedures knowledge. Now my questions are as follow: - In my experience, the "armour" in the A10C is just to keep the pilot alive, but receiving a glancing hit even from a BTR heavy MG is almost always RTB situation due to something always failing, avionics, tgp, hyd systems, a whole engine... Am I missing something? I managed to return to base and land most of the time though, so there is that. - BMP 2 and 3 are more dangerous than Zeus or truck mounted AAA. I guess the same applies to Bradleys and other IFV equipped with rapid fire autocannons, so I just treat them as AAA. In fact I had to eject twice in the missions, once because I didn't notice a SA9 in one of the convoys and got 4 missiles to the tail (still survived) and the second after a full burst from a lone BMP2 which just ripped off one full wing and one engine. Same as above, Am I missing something or doing something wrong? - The gun is only useful against soft targets with no MG like trucks. Attacking BMPs, BMRs and other armoured vehicles usually mean you get hit by heavy MG or autocannons and you die or have to RTB crawling in the air. Is there a way to do gun attack runs to those targets reliably? - How can you translate the 9 line info from the JTAC into useful TAD or TGP or CGI information? I didn't find that in the manual. Sorry if I did, you can just point me in the right direction. I will keep training and asking around here, specially now that I bought both basic and advanced qualification campaigns. Looking forward to get Hawg certified :pilotfly: Thanks in advance!

As they said, it is just the nosewheel steering button. Just remember to bind it on the Su33 as well.

FC3 complexity vs old Jane’s simulations?
Eviscerador replied to captainkoloth's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
I played ATF and other Jane's sim in the late 90s. FC3 systems are a bit more deep than those, but not that much. I will recommend you to bind the same actions to the same HOTAS buttons for every plane, since most of them have the same systems. I got FC3 in the current steam sale and I'm not regretting it. It is nice to step back and fly "less complicated" birds after a pair of A10C missions... And then you will miss the complexity and possibilities of the full modules and you will go back to them... -
Radio Menu key "\" doesn't work-no commands show.
Eviscerador replied to calys's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
The simplified radio comm key (the "" key) will only activate the ground crew intercom. If you want to talk with the tower, the JTAC or your flight wingmen you need to use the proper radio, set up the frequency and then open up the mic. I will recommend you to use simplified comms (it is in the difficulty menu) until you figure out the different radios, preset frequecies and such. Once you get it it is really easy, but takes a few seconds in the ramp to configure all preset chanels in all the radios. -
Will be possible to keep 1.5.8 on Steam after 2.5 release?
Eviscerador replied to Eviscerador's topic in Steam Support
Update! It is actually possible to just keep playing 1.5.8 in Steam. Just go to Properties => beta tab and select 1.5.x final version, which will install the final build of the 1.5.8 version. Good news for Steam users with potato PCs! -
Will be possible to keep 1.5.8 on Steam after 2.5 release?
Eviscerador replied to Eviscerador's topic in Steam Support
Considering the answers given (thank you all!) I have switched to the Stand Alone Client. I only have the A10C in steam, which I bought before DCS World was a thing! so it won't be a problem.
