Feedback Thread - F-14 Tomcat Patch, Dec 16th 2022
Gun Jam replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Anyone having issue with ground crew not hooking up? Online, TTI server with super carrier. Never ever been an issue before (as long as another jet isn't occupying a next door cat) Ground crew dont acknowledge my jet in front of them like the captain of the Exxon Valdez didn't see Alaska floating out there in front of him. Tried F8 menu several times no Acknowledgement. (ive maybe once had to use the F8 menu in the past and it did work) Not today! -
yeah thats what makes doing this on your own almost impossible without some type of collective knowledge to narrow down results. There's literally a million things it could be and they all depend on each other to a degree and there's no easy way to just pull software offline and divide the issue that way. Google and proper key words will do that for you though and will message forums.

Thanks for your help guys. I think I got it sorted. I ran DDU and almost seemed to fix the issue until I did a restart then back to the same ol crap... Hum okay lets read on to the next easiest thing to check. BitMaster had a brilliant idea of using google and suggested I wasn't the only one with this problem. Taking a page from his book I also found topics that exactly describe my issue. Reading though those the easiest check was MSI afterburner. Someone said that it had reset power limits to 25% I was like WTF no way well AB is just 2 clicks away and sure as <profanity> it was at 25% **** that software im not even sure why I still have it. I set that back to 100% and saved the settings its solid now. Im pretty sure that was the issue. Thanks -Gun

Hello 3090 win 10 most of the system is about 4 years old the GPU is less than a year old. Was fine until a few weeks ago. I dont recall making any changes. The GPU fails to ramp up power / load when a task is asked of it (like DCS or a GPU benchmark) I can run Heaven benchmark and get 30fps and see no increase in board power from the gpu. I reinstall the driver and I get 300 fps and 100% gpu load and board power goes from 120 to 380w. Everything is fine until I shutdown the pc or sleep or restart and its back to the same 30 fps in Heaven and DCS reports FPSVr at 99% gpu load and 8fps. This is not limited to VR and seems to be not related to VR. any suggestions appreciated. Thanks

PIMAX Monster 12k, Eyes tracking, INSIDE OUT and Much more !!
Gun Jam replied to ICARIVS's topic in Virtual Reality
Depends on the person I guess. I run my Reverb G2 and 105% because 35-40FPS bothers me less than fuzzy display / shimmer. I found I dont really need AA at those resolutions. with whatever 200ish FOV they are saying the pimax 12k will run I bet you'll want all the resolution you can get to fill that display...probably -
Is anyone else having problems seeing hud since last couple updates?
Gun Jam replied to feeleyat's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
I have not noticed any significant change it appears fine to me. I fly Vr. Night / day /dusk /dawn all seem okay -
External Lights too dim with 2.8 new lighting effects?

agreed.. I dont expect them to improve any time soon. Maybe after multi core / vulkan but not expecting much. -
Help choosing memory speeds vs timing
Gun Jam replied to Gun Jam's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks for the feedback guys this is helpful I plan on 13th gen somday Thanks -
Im looking at ddr5 memory and had questions about how the primary Speed say 6400 and its timings say 32,39,39 would compare to say 7800 at 36,46,46 if I wanted compare speed how do we go about this to get something close to real world performance? we have something listed at 6400 with faster timings vs something faster like 7800 with slower timings. Is there a single value we can look at to see how they would compare I doubt that speed (6400) alone would be a good judge of speed a 7800 might sound fast but how bad does it get beat up by sloppier timings? Is all 6400 going to deliver more real world performance than 6000? Within a speed range say 7000 is there a timing value that is more important than the other 2? could we say that 6800 32,45,45 would beat 6800 34,45,45?

is the draw distance still very short for you guys as well? Im flying vr but have vis range set to extreme and whatever changes were made to PG are non existent as far as I can tell. With NVG on I can see all these cities but when I take them off its just blackness only lights directly below are visible the draw distance is probably about 10 to 15 miles tops. Is this expected? Thanks
-
Just wanted to let you guys know the new cable arrived and so far is working excellent. The power switch is a nice feature. Thanks again for the help
-
What should I be looking for in PG lighting improvements? My main issue was the draw distance was so close that at 40k feet only cities directly under you were visible so unless you banked the plane you were always in a sea of darkness. This looks the same even at "extreme" Im getting about 15miles of visibility before lighting fades to black. Is there any settings I should double check? This is also with Vr

well its a newer version than I have now. It has a power sw at least. 90 bucks is about right too. That HMD is too late in its life cycle to be spending 200 bucks on. What make the V2 cable so much greater? For 200 bucks the V2 cable should make the cable go away and be a wireless device lol. I probably got the last one??? They say it shipped and i got a tracking number. Fingers crossed.
-
That would be sweet. I suspected that the G2 would be their last headset sometime ago. Its a great HMD but HP does not strike me as a company that would continue to down that avenue it just doesn't seem aligned with their typical products and im guessing probably didn't sell WAY above expectations so there probably isn't going to be anything further from them. Valve is the one im watching now. They seem like a company WELL aligned with the VR industry and the deckard speculation has been interesting. Vario is another so is even PiMax.

Alright nice. They were all sold out on the above links but B&H claim to have them in stock. I placed an order we shall see.

I suspected that when I skimmed over the log. Thanks Flappie

hello I believe the cable on my G2 is going bad. Im getting lots of issues with it losing center and then it will blue screen and CTD. I found that its not only DCS but any VR app. In WMR Cliff house thing I can look up or look right and it will blue screen and the CTD and I get a message "connect headset" I can wiggle the HMD and it will reconnect. I found in DCS looking up or right causes CTD most often as well. It appears that those angles are causing a temp cable break. I heard about a new cable for the G2 but it was sometime ago. If I need to replace the cable where should I look and which one should I get? Thanks
-
After investigating this further...I think its a bad cable for the G2. Is there anything in the log that would support this hypothesis? thanks
-
Hello Sometimes some OB have a rare tendency to CTD. After the latest update it I get CTD within 3 to 20 min of playing. Happens offline or online. Vr will lose tracking now often and as things get more complicated (incoming bandits and missiles in the air) it will lose tracking more and more often within seconds from one to the next at about that time I get blue screen and its dead. I initially though hardware. Temps seem in check. I haven't noticed issues with other games (but those are mostly flat panel ill try HL Alex or something to see if thats an issue but my guess is not) I do not have issues with tracking or crashing in the DCS main menus or steam home or cliff house. Ive attached log any ideas? dcs.log

Thanks for the video! This is about what I noticed going from a 2080Ti to a 3090. You dont get significantly better FPS but you get lots of overhead so you can turn up your visual settings and pixel density. In the end you get way better clarity and visuals at about the same FPS you had before. Usually the overall performance is more consistent less stutter. My goal was to set graphics setting that gave me about 80 to 90 GPU utilization. Not surprised that nothing has changed with the 40 series. Better graphics at about the same FPS. I wonder how much vulkan and multi core will change things if that ever happens?

what about with alt + heading hold with FFB joystick I might get it to hold 1 in 15 tries and its unreliable and will usually oscillate after a minute or two then just enter an ever increasing dive. Is this a known issue or more or just me? Thanks
-
Were you not able to find a "mod" or tweak to get rid of those issues? All versions on win usually have one or 2 things that suck about them but I've always been able to find a way to get rid of a "cortana" or some widget or lame weather / news crapplet screwing up my viewing space. What issues did you see that were deal breakers and not easily modded? Thanks -Gun

I suspect that by the end of this year I'll be building a new PC. Im planning on going 4090 and a 13th gen raptor lake. We will see how that stuff really performs vs the rumors when the time comes. The real question is will the OS (win 10 vs 11) make any difference in DCS with the above hardware? IF DCS ever goes multicore / Vulkan would it then be an issue? I have had ever version of windows except ME and 8. I even liked vista as I found visa to be the first win OS that did not degrade over time and or get wiped out by a virus. With all other versions of win in my case it was a fresh install every 6 months to a year. I ran VISTA for about 6 years on a single install and it was still fine. But I digress. My concern is that Win 11 is going to end up in the ME and 8 bin. A trash os that no one wanted, either a downgraded version of the last win (ME vs 98) or a cell ph os that has no business on a PC (win 8 ) I think in this case its going to be the ME vs 98 example where win 11 is the new os that is less functional than 10. However win 11 seems to be the only os that supports CPU scheduling for E core and P core CPUs. What are the odds that I would see say in 2 years gains from having win 11 vs 10 because of E core and P core CPUs and DCS vulkan and multicore? I do not want to build this new PC and then have to Change OS after a year because I made a mistake. Ive always manged to make OS changes during upgrades but win 11 looks crap and its making me ask these questions. Any thoughts? Thanks

I have no idea but I had to look at that image for like a minute and still wasnt 100% sure someone didnt just photo shop pilot legs into a dcs screen shot. Cover up the bottom half and Im not sure one could say that it was a real life photo vs dcs.
