This looks interesting glad to see dev being put into this technology BUT.... until they have something like this that uses a glass lens that is more typical of optics (like in a camera, binocular or scope) like a convex lens im not interested. Have the SO+ and do enjoy DCS with it but based on those experiences and some basic knowledge of optics I am of the somewhat scientifically based opinion that: Increasing FOV and resolution do not matter at this time. I want to see all research go to improving optics and moving away from the Fresnel lens. I think they are using it because its cheap and provides distortion that they can work with and has suitable focal distance. Increase in res and FOV make no difference if I have so much chromatic \ spherical aberration that i only have 60 usable FOV. Move away from the Fresnel lens, grind a decent piece of glass (doesn't have to be an apochromat but I would probably pay for that) correct for the distortion then we can talk about Res and FOV.

I did try removing the headset and clicking the window or minimizing it and re selecting it...that didnt seem to help. However Ive had very good luck by not touching anything, putting on the headset which starts WMR software automatically, makes you look left, right then at the floor then put you in the little cliff house thing. I then take off the headset and start DCS...seems to nail it every time so far no issues.

Im trying the refuel quick mission and Im getting beatup by the radio. Cant find a good tutorial. The help file kinda of helps but im not able to get a reply from Texaco. The radio is set to 255.00 which the AM frequency of texaco according to (this is the radio on the top repeater) I select \ f6 f1 get nothing. What am I missing link to a known tutorial? Thanks

In DCS Vr use mouse is selected, touch controllers are off and Mouse is limited to DCS window. They have always been that way. I figured as normal it was my MSFFB2 joystick causing problems I just unplugged that and still dont get mouse control on at least the first attempt. When I pull the headset off I can see the mouse moving on the DCS window and it is indeed contained to the dcs window. When I put the headset back on I can see the mouse pointer where I left it but it dont move. This is with samsung O+ any other ideas? Thanks

Ive been getting use to VR and like it quite a bit as ive manged to work out most of the serious issues. The last real problem is getting the mouse to initialize within a reasonable amount of time. It didnt seem to be an issue at first but now it takes as many restarts in an 8 to 10 minute time frame to get the damn mouse to finally work in DCS. I cant seem to find a pattern that gets it to work the first or even to 12th time Ill start windows mixed reality for steam vr then dcs or steam VR then DCS. Or DCS and its starts WMR for steam and just flip between the 3 combos until it works. This mouse d*** dance is getting old fast any tips? Thanks

well thats about the coolest thing ever! Thanks!

Now If I were to do this I would have no FF for any of my planes just center tension? The FF for the P51 is a significant benefit. Flying the p51 without FF is much much more difficult. Thank you for the help!

Im having issue with my MSFFB2 not providing any feedback with the f14 It works on all other planes but sometimes doesn't initialize a restart of DCS usually solves the problem but I havent had it work at all yet in the f14 even after a few restarts. Nobody likes the fly with a limp stick it makes it quite tricky is this a known issue anyone have any input? Thanks -Gun

These are good points. However the more I use VR the more I seem to like it. I had good improvements in smoothness by using motion reprojection. As shown here. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=228378 That's pretty much a 100% win with little to no real tradeoffs. I still want to call Samsung and ask about edge clarity Im on the fence about if what im seeing is in spec. I

Samsung Odyssey + need a bit of help getting beat up by some issues
Gun Jam replied to Gun Jam's topic in Virtual Reality
Nodak I figured it wasnt too spot on I try to set it so if feels natural... I seem to be getting more blur on the left side Can you comment on how menus look as far as edge clarity? -
I have never seen this where is that option hidden?
-
is there a trick you guys are using to help look directly back? swivel chairs to get a few extra degrees?
-
I find that I have to really twist around to look back more so than real life due to a narrower field of view. Is there any way we can add a motion tracking curve similar to something like track ir but just much less. For example right now its 1:1 if I turn a 120 deg I get 120deg. It would be awesome if I could say between 0 and 120 deg add 30 deg so by the time I twist 120 deg im looking back 150 deg. we could even add an expo curve so it ramps in a bit faster after 90 deg or make it linear. Im guessing there are no options for this yet as it would have to be built into DCS or be specific to dcs so it wouldn't effect other VR apps.

Samsung Odyssey + need a bit of help getting beat up by some issues
Gun Jam replied to Gun Jam's topic in Virtual Reality
I see it occur about equal in all situations that have suitable complexity (words) This includes super position VR (a benchmark software that is quite amazing to play with in vr free download to test system but 20 bucks if you want to mess with it in vr pretty much worth it) Also the IPD display does not display correct values when adjusting IPD. Both lenses move but its suspect that the IPD distance windows just displays random values that vaguely seem to reflect the wheel position. Do yours work proper? Thanks for the help -
I had a friend over today to try it out I was able to watch the FPS counter on the monitor screens and it actually does hit 90fps more often than I expected. Getting an average is tough still I need to turn that setting on and see what avg is over a known location. I tried to enable to the MS counter thats show MS per frame it works but it was causing the mouse to not work??? Ill have to try again so I can see in real time as I fly what FPS im getting.. Ill try to get more accurate results and post them here

Samsung Odyssey + need a bit of help getting beat up by some issues
Gun Jam replied to Gun Jam's topic in Virtual Reality
lol no worries starting with basics... yes I removed them before putting on the headset the first time. no matter how I position the headset I can only make it worse. I have good eyesight with no contacts or glasses. My friend has far crappier eyesight and uses glasses. He seemed to experience the exact same thing to about the same extent. He has many hrs behind the PS4 Vr and his initial reaction was wow this is way better but what the hell is wrong with the edge of the screen. my initial intro to VR was with his system and after flying a bit I used menu similar to this to check sweet spot size and I could only detect some slight blurriness way way down at the edge of the image like the last 10% of the image had slight blur that you had to look for to see. Im starting to think this is a hardware issue on the headset side warped lenses or something. I have changed these settings so far steamVr Version 1.2.10 "application resolution" to 208% DCS Pixel Density to 1.0 No AA my nvida settings are default I havent even found "VR" settings in there yet what settings are you using and did you change anything in nvidia control panel? Could there be a setting im overlooking? If you were to look at the training screen that I put in the screen shot head on and then look to the left edge at the aircraft icons still clear? If you were to fly the mustang when a mission loads it has that picture of the p51 sucking the gear up. If you look at the air intake just below the spinner can you read the disclaimer at the bottom " Weapon systems and aircraft associated with them are not endorsed by anyone bla bla bla" Thanks for helping me compare this! -
Samsung Odyssey + need a bit of help getting beat up by some issues
Gun Jam replied to Gun Jam's topic in Virtual Reality
yes care must be taken to get the fit just right. This is a screen shot that I edited to simulate as close as possible what I see in terms of how the blur looks including the way it blurs and the severity. This was done by taking a screen shot of my training window after setting vr view center and looking right at the middle of the screen when you look off center towards an edge without moving your head this is what I see (screen shot below) is that about what you see? Sweet spot is about the size of the center box surrounding the "name" and "map" columns -
Samsung Odyssey + need a bit of help getting beat up by some issues
Gun Jam replied to Gun Jam's topic in Virtual Reality
I had a friend come over and try DCS he has the PS4 VR system that I originally tried. Ive been making adjustments and Ive pretty well sorted out my issues to the point where its enjoyable to fly in vr and he thought it looked really good. and playing off his experience with the psvr the issue here is the small sweet spot. This is the issues that seems worse than it should. The sweet spot seems quite narrow and is much narrower than the psvr system I would say after 1/3 away from center the image degrades very quickly. I try to come up with a way to perhaps compare this any initial thoughts on this? I was told the SO+ has the largest sweet spot between the vive and rift Thanks again! -
I just got the SO+ and things are getting better than they were 24 hrs ago. My main issue is I dont have a base line of what is to be expected and its tough to see because you cant simply just take a screen shot and there are people who say "ive been using VR for Year+ and would never use something that would make me less competitive in DCS ill never use 2d again" So I am trying to sort out: what is expected and totally normal What is an issue cause by a setting that can be adjusted or Work in progress What could be an unexpected hardware issue (exchange for a new set and try again?) I have been trying several settings and I found that "the most noticeable and clear result was steam SS:208% /dcs PD 1.0/ dcs msaa off" as described in clear vision tweak. Im fairly sure that this worked better for me than SS to 100 and PD to 1.4 no MSAA. Now with these settings im getting a pretty solid 45FPS over downtown Dubai with settings close to what was recommended by jabbers in his VR video. I am running an i7 at 5ghz with a strix 2080ti and 32gb of 3200 ram. Does this example sound like 45fps is what would be expected? I hear people talk about when it gets close to 90fps things get clearer how the hell is anyone getting 90fps is it just in very rare instances? like 10% of the time? with the above info here are some things are causing me real issues 1) in a dogfight p51 vs fw190 in a head on pass I see a ghost image of the plane maybe 10ft separated from the original. Also when flying past a parachute is this expected and normal? FPS related? A solution? 2) using the Steamvr and DCS settings as described I can almost see how someone could tolerate it and it is usable I can read the temp gauge and read the numbers for the speed but the usable area "sweet spot" seems quite limited it seems like a box shape and is about maybe 1/3 the screen on the splash screen when the mustang loads is has a disclaimer about weapons systems and whatevs when looking slightly down from center this can be recognized as English text but not read I have a feeling that I am losing a lot of clarity because of either the double vision issue with the O+ or because of a hardware issue (the lenses) I dont have a solid understanding of how this works but the Frenzel lens seems like a super cheap option for magnification and as a result we have a TON of fisheye effect near the edge, we have spherical and chromatic aberration causing color separation (blurriness and probably the "god ray" issues that is very obvious near the last 1/3 of the image. Is that normal sounding? Does anyone know if the frenzel lens is used to save cost or is required by design? If a 1,500 dollar set of apochromatic glass lenses were used would it solve all these issues? Ive got a pretty strong feeling that its creating a pretty good image but something is totally stomping it. I set IPD based on a somewhat accurate measurement but the image is getting trashed by a lens issue or a software issue creating double vision or slight misalignment I tried the .lua settings from the post "DCS and Odyssey+ cross-eyed!!" but that didnt seem to make much improvement over the DCS implemented software. I feel like its close but not quite right and im not sure how much this would mess things up visual wise. any input would be good. Its a bunch better now thanks to help from this form but I would have a hard time believing anyone that said this makes them better at DCS so I suspect there's still an issue here that is causing me some problems and I can get some improvement still. Thanks

i7 8080k at 5ghz strix 2080ti and 32gb of 3200 ram. I dont know what the heck that is? I have the display on the Vr headset that matches the foreground display in the screen shot in terms of FPS and then a mirrored display behind that which appears to run at a speed equal to what DCS would normally run on my 2k screen. So technically im seeing the same image 3 times one in the headset and 2 on the screen. Not sure if thats normal or what maybe not clear but the screen shot is my desktop

I set my settings up very similar to what jabbers had shown in his VR Setup and the best I got was 44FPS When I look at my monitor I see two instances of the game running one at about 44fps and one over 100fps...is that normal?

Okay so I got the SO+ Attempted to do some setup but there wasn't much available in the walk though Started DCS and tried to do some stuff and its pretty terrible. So now is where I get to figure out how to set up VR so I get the most out of it. With the play station 4 system you set IPD and go and it was fine but this is a far more complex system here so im not surprised that it sucked right off the bat. Here are the issues and hopefully you guys can point me in a direction to solve them. I have pretty dang good eyesight and dont use glasses or contact. 1) I sometimes get double vision on things up close when looking at far away objects like canopy rails on the p51 or the no handhold dillio on the k14 gun sight. 2) the center FOV for like 40 deg is the only real usable part it gets pretty blurry towards the edges or even past 40 deg. I didnt notice this much at all on the PS4 system yes a bit but it was like the last 10 deg. and most of the image was quite consistent in quality. 3) im not sure on the proper startup of dcs I just click the shortcut and it launches DCS in VR I guess though steam VR but I'm only getting 20FPS so im not sure if its running the game twice or if something is way off settings wise. That same mission I usually get 100 to 150fps Lets start with that... Thanks Gun

Thanks Bun I got StreamVr and Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR which appears to allow steamvr stuff to run on WMR but im assuming it also runs native WMR stuff as well. It looks like it installed okay but I cant launch it because it detects no head set Rossterman the O+ has the highest res screens of the 3 common systems and its a year newer so mechanically it should be better if it was implemented properly that was my initially draw to the O+ in the first place. Thanks for the help guys
