Few new things I've noticed with the Huey since 1.2.12
wolle replied to kontiuka's topic in DCS: UH-1H
Has this been acknowledged by a moderator yet? F7 Decent menu has disappeared:cry: -
It's probably a different problem than you are having, but just in case: It happens to me randomly (on average maybe every 15mins) during flights that all my controls become unresponsive (it happens in all modules). I can reactivate all the controls by pressing any button on the keyboard. I could completely eliminate the problem by selecting "Full screen mode" in the DCSW options. My theory of why that happens is that unless you select "full screen mode" you run the sim in a window, and it is possible that another window can become the active window. Then your controller inputs are sent to the other active window, and not DCS.

I also don't understand why they don't include training videos. However, I think I understand why there are no campaigns for the recently released aircraft: those would essentially become obsolete as soon as World 2.0 and the new maps come out.

So who likes the new F-86 canopy and increased gun smoke?
wolle replied to Winston60's topic in DCS: F-86F Sabre
I for one like the recent changes to the F-86! -
I appreciate your point, but I don't think the discussion is only about flat turns. Rudder performance factors into many maneuvers other than flat turns. For example, it is impossible for me to keep the Sabre going straight down the runway at 10m/s crosswind using rudder alone. With the addition of differential breaking, yes, but the rudder seems to be very ineffective during crosswind take-offs and landings. So, I really hope that BST will double check this aspect of their flight model. No witchhunt, just hope they will look into this.

Can anybody explain to a non-pilot how to perform this test? Is the following procedure the correct one? -fly level and straight. -apply full rudder. -apply opposite aileron until there is no deflection on the roll indicator -pull back elevator and add power to compensate for increase in drag until plane does not sink or climb and maintains constant speed. -observe if there is any change in heading with time. I did some quick tests in the Sabre and the Dora. In neither case could I observe a significant change in heading, both planes simply side-slip. Am I doing it right?

Thanks Art, very helpful. So "cont" and "inter" are filters? I always assumed that they allowed for active jamming by emitting radar waves, rather than filtering out incoming radar waves.
-
How about jamming? How and when do you use the buttons labelled "cont" and "inter" (can't recall the exact labels atm) above the radar scope, for continuous and intermittent jamming? Then there is also the countermeasure pod you can load on the aircraft, and that has a whole lot of mysterious switches on it. Wish I was as smart as you, and things would be self-explanatory to me...

I really like the Mig-21 interactive training missions. Most things seem to be covered nicely, except that there doesn't seem to be anything on radar-warning-receiver, jamming, flares and chaffs. Would be nice if an interactive training mission that teaches you how to react to various threats were added in the future (or did I overlook it?).

Hi Sith, I have now made it passed all the missions up to and including the ground attack mission. In the ground attack mission I got the message that I took out more than 90% of the targets, and assumed that this means I have successfully completed the mission. So, I quit the mission, but got only 50% results. Turns out you get credit for passing the mission only 1 minute after completing the task. I think that's a little confusing, since most people will assume they passed the mission as soon as the get the 90% message. Just a small point.
-
Hi Sith, I flew the mission you attached, and could make it a little further into the mission, but still missed Krymsk. Not sure if that's because of the different mission, or because I flew it differently. I still believe that your mission checks for true ground speed and true magnetic heading, not for indicated airspeed and compass heading that the pilot can read off his instruments. I had to fly the course at a IAS of significantly less than 450kph and at a compass heading several degrees less than 125 (40), but still missed the airport. Maybe it would be useful, in the mission briefing, to provide the pilot with a magnetic deviation chart of the area and a formula that relates IAS to TGS given a barometric altitude, temperature and wind. Also, you give the pilot 300s to complete the first leg (which is correct), but only 240 s for the second leg which is just as long as the first leg (this is too little time to arrive at the airfield for a TGS of 450 kph) Otherwise great missions so far.

Would be a cool publicity stunt for DCS if they got Pugachev to fly the cobra on a DCS simulator and post the track and video:music_whistling:

Ah Wikipedia. Sometimes I wonder if there is anything that is not on Wikipedia... Thanks, I'll try that tonight.

In thought I might start a thread about the dora campaign. At the moment I have only one question: In the "navigation, beginner" mission I am supposed to fly at 450 km/h on a heading of 125 (if I remember it correctly). I do that, nevertheless, the mission narrator periodically tells me to check heading and speed, and finally I fail the mission. My question now: heading 125 is that indicated heading on my compass, or do I have to correct for magnetic deviation, etc.? The speed of 450, is that indicated airspeed, or do I have to correct for altitude and wind?

I would greatly appreciate it if someone could describe the control inputs required to perform the cobra in the SU-27 with PFM. At what speed do you enter the maneuver? How hard do you pull the stick. What should the throttle be set to, idle? When do you stop pulling on the stick? How do you exit the maneuver? Any other info? Thanks in advance.

That did the trick, many thanks. Wonder why I haven't encountered this problem in any of the other modules...

I have the axis control "zoom view" assigned to my warthog's "joy_slider1" (the friction wheel). Works for all modules, but doesn't work in the Su 27. The view zoom is independent of the slider's position. Anyone else have this problem?

is this server still active? Couldn't find it the last two nights (US time).

looking forward to the updates and final campaign:thumbup:

I found that locking the tail wheel is the more effective the more you pull back the stick. That surprised me, since I always thought the tail wheel is either locked or it isn't, it can't be more or less locked. But that's seems what is going on. Maybe it is because if you pull back the stick all the way you put more weight on the tail wheel, making it more effective at keeping the plane straight. On the other hand, if you pull back only slightly, the tail wheel is still locked, but there is little weight on the tail wheel, and it can easily skip around, making it possible for the plane to turn left and right even with a locked tail wheel. Am I right? Or is there another reason for that?

How does one refill the oxygen after returning to base? What I mean is that rearm and refuel rearms weapons and refuels fuel tanks, but it does not replenish the oxygen. So you will quickly run out of oxygen on your second flight. Also, I have been flying around at 30000 feet with an empty oxygen tank without any problems. Are lack of oxygen effects on the pilot not modelled, yet?

bump. I can't arm either 50kg nor 500kg bombs that were loaded via rearm-and-refuel ground crew command. When they are preloaded from the mission editor they work fine. Has this been reported by a moderator, yet?
