Would be a cool publicity stunt for DCS if they got Pugachev to fly the cobra on a DCS simulator and post the track and video:music_whistling:

Ah Wikipedia. Sometimes I wonder if there is anything that is not on Wikipedia... Thanks, I'll try that tonight.

In thought I might start a thread about the dora campaign. At the moment I have only one question: In the "navigation, beginner" mission I am supposed to fly at 450 km/h on a heading of 125 (if I remember it correctly). I do that, nevertheless, the mission narrator periodically tells me to check heading and speed, and finally I fail the mission. My question now: heading 125 is that indicated heading on my compass, or do I have to correct for magnetic deviation, etc.? The speed of 450, is that indicated airspeed, or do I have to correct for altitude and wind?

I would greatly appreciate it if someone could describe the control inputs required to perform the cobra in the SU-27 with PFM. At what speed do you enter the maneuver? How hard do you pull the stick. What should the throttle be set to, idle? When do you stop pulling on the stick? How do you exit the maneuver? Any other info? Thanks in advance.

That did the trick, many thanks. Wonder why I haven't encountered this problem in any of the other modules...

I have the axis control "zoom view" assigned to my warthog's "joy_slider1" (the friction wheel). Works for all modules, but doesn't work in the Su 27. The view zoom is independent of the slider's position. Anyone else have this problem?

is this server still active? Couldn't find it the last two nights (US time).

looking forward to the updates and final campaign:thumbup:

I found that locking the tail wheel is the more effective the more you pull back the stick. That surprised me, since I always thought the tail wheel is either locked or it isn't, it can't be more or less locked. But that's seems what is going on. Maybe it is because if you pull back the stick all the way you put more weight on the tail wheel, making it more effective at keeping the plane straight. On the other hand, if you pull back only slightly, the tail wheel is still locked, but there is little weight on the tail wheel, and it can easily skip around, making it possible for the plane to turn left and right even with a locked tail wheel. Am I right? Or is there another reason for that?

How does one refill the oxygen after returning to base? What I mean is that rearm and refuel rearms weapons and refuels fuel tanks, but it does not replenish the oxygen. So you will quickly run out of oxygen on your second flight. Also, I have been flying around at 30000 feet with an empty oxygen tank without any problems. Are lack of oxygen effects on the pilot not modelled, yet?

bump. I can't arm either 50kg nor 500kg bombs that were loaded via rearm-and-refuel ground crew command. When they are preloaded from the mission editor they work fine. Has this been reported by a moderator, yet?

True, but both the Huey and Mi8 had interactive training in the first beta release, and the Huey even had a campaign.

The Sabre module is awesome, and air-to-air engagements are tons of fun. However, I have the toughest time finding other planes in the sky.:( I know that this is generally tough in DCS. However, I have also been flying P51 vs. Dora battles, and there it seems much, much easier to spot enemy planes at distance. Am I just imagining this, or could it be that the P51D and Dora have better optimized scaling with distance than the Mig-15 and F86? Or are they tougher to spot because of their higher speed, or lighter paint,.. I thought I bring up this point, since I think this puts a major damper on the Sabre module at the moment.

Both the Dora and the Sabre came out without a campaign or interactive training. Why? I hope the answer is that they will be added soon. Maybe they are holding out on making those because once EDGE comes out missions designed in the older engine will be obsolete. In any case, my point is: interactive training missions are very helpful for new pilots to learn, and campaigns are fun. Would be a bummer if future modules wouldn't come with either...

thanks guys!

How do you turn off the wingtip navigation lights?
-
I do this already, both for the P51 and the Dora. Hold wheel brakes, increase to as much RPM as the wheel brakes can take. Then release them, and increase throttle to full RPM smoothly but quickly (within a fraction of a second). My questions were not so much that I can't take off in the Dora (I can), but I think there are still problems with the flight model, when it comes to tail wheel locking and cross wind aerodynamic behavior when taking off (try taking off with 10 m/s crosswind and you'll see what I mean). I have to give it full aileron into the wind, full throttle, full rudder, full toe brakes just to keep her aligned, and even then it's a wobbly dance at best. I am also doubtful that the landings should require so much pull on the flight stick in addition to full elevator trim. Would be nice to know whether these things are still work in progress, or if the Dora really behaved like that.

I have a couple of questions: When I take-off it doesn't seem to make a difference whether I hold back the stick when I start rolling. Theoretically holding back the stick should lock the tail wheel and keep the plane straight. I cannot detect any difference whether I hold the stick back or not, in both cases the plane yaws drastically as soon as I release the brake. When I look at it from F2 view, the tail wheel is initially straight. As soon as I start to roll, whether or not I hold the stick back, the plane yaws to the right, and the tail wheel rotates with it. The effect of holding the stick back seems to take effect only after a second or so. After a second or so, the tail wheel indeed locks, but at that point you are already off-course. Has anyone tried crosswind take-offs (say 10 m/s). I can do those fine with the P51, but the Dora seems to be blown all over the place by the crosswind. Strangely it wants to weather vane with the wind, instead of into it (which I think is the usual response) Any tips? During landing approach, as soon as you lower flaps and gear, the plane becomes extremely nose-heavy. I have to trim her all the way and in addition pull the stick back almost all the way just to keep a proper approach attitude. :helpsmilie:

Will there be a Dora fly in, like the one you guys did on occasion of the Sabre's release?

Let me add what I found so far (has already been mentioned in other threads, but maybe would be nice if we can collect everything in this thread): - please make left/right mouse clicking action consistent throughout the cockpit. ATM left clicking moves some switches up, but others down, left clicking moves some dials counter-clockwise, but others clockwise. To make it consistent with other modules it should be that left-clicks move switches down, right-clicks move switches up. Left clicks rotate dials counter-clockwise, right clicks clockwise. - Morse code identifiers for ADF stations are messed up. - GAR-8 growls without end once missile sight selector has been engaged, an continues even after missiles were deselected. - There is no menu item in the comms menu to contact AWACs.
-
I can confirm this: there is no communication menu item to contact AWACS from your sabre, even if you have selected the correct frequency (i.e. you can listen to AWACS, but you can't contact them). Must be a bug.

Maybe this is off-topic, but since we are talking about switches and dials. It seems that there are inconsistencies in how left mouse clicks and right mouse clicks are implemented. Sometimes left clicking rotates a dial counter-clockwise, and for some other dial clockwise... Sometimes left clicking a switch moves it down, and up for a different switch. I end up having to randomly click and see what happens...
