  1. Alright off topic a bit but please explain how you made a home CNC with a Dremel? I have wanted to do this FOREVER and just don't know how to put it all together..
  2. I am betting that any system you decied to build now will have no issues running EDGE.. I honestly don't think that is an issue at all at this point.. EDGE may be tougher on older systems but anything you are looking at now should be no problem.. I7, 16 GIG matched dual channel RAM, (I prefer Nvidia 770 or 780 as DCS has some issues with the AMD cards, but those issues SHOULD go away with EDGE and DX11 support.) So whatever flavor Video card you prefer.. Keep WINDOWS 7.. You will not believe the difference this machine will be compared to what you have...
  3. Remember that he is trying to keep this around $1200 or so...
  4. THIS! Definitely go for the I7 (For those talking about ED not being multi thread, that is correct but OP uses his machine for video editing so I7 is a MUST for him) My recommendation would be to stay away from the latest and greatest and stick with last years best... Go with a Z87 rather than a Z97 board and last years I7.. You definitely want 16 GIG memory for editing... And like Bewsher said you can then stick with Windows 7.. And make CERTAIN that when you buy memory that you buy name brand memory that is MATCHED for dual channel... (It will be specifically marketed as dual channel in one package. Don't try buying separate packages of memory as you WILL have issues with it. Always buy matched sticks and all that you need at one time. Trying to add later nearly always goes bad.)
  5. I will let you know about inputs when it arrives.. Thanks!
  6. Cool. thanks for the response.. I should have the monitor sometime tomorrow so once it is all setup I will do a quick review for folks that are interested..
  7. Ok pulled the trigger and bought a new monitor... Some folks on this forum had recommended the LG 34" widescreen and after I checked it out.. One is on it's way now.. Question I have is that I am currently running a 770GTX with 4GIgs memory.. For the folks that currently own the LG 34UM95... Is this enough video card to run this beast well? (I am also running a second monitor with Helios for my Black Shark gauges.. 1920x1080) Should I run the 2nd monitor from a secondary machine so all GPU HP is used for the new display? The OTHER question I have is that there are actually 2 different versions of this monitor... LG 34UM95 and LG 34UM95-P? (I bought the -P) What the heck is the difference between the one with the -P..? I cannot for the life of me figure out what the difference is.. ??
  8. Laughing.. And making others laugh right to the very end... Another fine comedian passes in 2014... :O( RIP
  9. Well your option of adding it into DCS World certainly makes more sense from a developer point of view.. And since there will be other planes that may use it, I hope my assumption was incorrect and yours IS the method of rollout!
  10. As I understand it, the carrier is an integral part of the F-18 module... At least that was my impression.. (So not a bundle or addition, you buy the F-18 you get the carrier as well..) Anyone out there that can confirm that statement?
  11. All I can add is that I too have tried both camps (Hell I still buy AMD if absolute performance isn't required.. I will probably continue to go with AMD for low to midrange builds simply because they are very cheap to build. Even the MOBOs tend to be cheaper...) With that being said, if you are building a new machine with video as your primary function then I7 IS the only answer.. (Assuming you can afford one.) There are very few things that I would consider a sure bet in today's day and age, but if you are working video and can afford I7 I will stick my neck out and state right now.. You will NOT regret that choice! Compared to what you are running now, you will have a smile from ear to ear when you start encoding with an I7...
  12. Absolutely... And the only thing I will add is that if you were ONLY going to game with it I would say I5, but since you primarily use your machine for video editing then an I7 is really the best option bar none.. (I am currently gaming with an AMD 8-core and I have been happy with it, but I also knew going in that the Intels trounce it any way you want to measure them... I bought this AMD because I truly got a killer deal on it..) My next DCS build will definitely be an I7... If you can afford it, go I7... DAMMITT: SNIPED AGAIN :O)
  13. A map of the Persian Gulf centered around say Kuwait City would be excellent! That area would support campaigns for both Desert Storm and Desert Shield and hopefully include all of Kuwait and parts of Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia... Then follow-on maps could connect to this one and include Syria, Jordan, Israel and Lebanon and part of Turkey.. That would keep the scenario builders busy for some time!
  14. Then if facts are not interesting to you then please by all means go play one of the other excellent options that are out there... Err.. Oh yeah that's right .. there aren't any... Guess you will just have to wait for real people to do the real work involved... Sorry no magic wands here buddy..
  15. Nope, my comments were not stupid in any way and if you take the time to go back and read pretty much ANYTHING that ACER has to say you will see why I posted this... Acer is hassling the devs, not me.. So please brush up on your reading skills as they are failing you at the moment..
  16. Nice review!
  17. Yeah ALWAYS buy all the RAM you intend to use on the first trip and be certain that they are matched modules.. (I have had ALL KINDS of issues with RAM when trying to mix.) Sometimes you may get lucky and be able to add more RAM as long as the 2 shared channels are perfectly matched. (Unfortunately this is not the case for you..) EDIT: NINJA SNIPED: GOOD GOD when I responded, my post WAS relevant to what was being said, but apparently about 30 guys sniped me and this posting is now pretty near useless.. DAMN. You guys are fast!
  18. Yep, mine too.. And I promise you we aren't the only ones with this "opinion"..
  19. AMEN!
  20. Not a bug as Windows doesn't allow it.. Shouldn't be able to even name that file with parantheses... Windows should error out stating that you can't use those kinds of character types... WEIRD..
  21. And you should be more helpful when new people showup to our forum... That was F-O-R-U-M... Please look it up so you understand what exactly that is and what to expect from people that frequent one.. (Namely questions)
  22. Once again this thread turns into a joke... GIVE IT A FRIGGIN REST Everybody needs to take a walk, or a nap or whatever.. GOOD GOD
  23. LOL
  24. Exactly... And as for the previous posting.. My "over-confident tone"? :megalol: LOL Whatever
  25. There is nothing about a "Module" that is going to tax a system anymore than any other module... What taxes the system is the DCS ENVIRONMENT itself and how it handles the modules that are coded... MIG-21 is not anymore taxing than Black Shark.. Or Huey or any other module... So anything PC performance-related is off topic and belongs in it's own thread ...
