I can tell you for a fact as someone that has time in real helicopters IRL that a helicopter with a dead tail rotor is most definitely a crash... There are a few examples out there where someone got lucky, but it is just that. LUCK Your example of losing tail rotor authority does not take into account that without the tail rotor your helicopter will spin out of control in the opposite direction of the main rotor. It is totally uncontrollable and not recoverable. It doesn't just glide nicely.. That is the whole point of the tail rotor is that the entire helicopter will spin the opposite direction of the main rotor without one.. Lose the tail rotor and you are BlackHawk down...
-
No one has to wait for it, it is simply released when it is released and if that means 3AM for you, then 3AM for you... LOL
-
Can't do that without actual damage being done. The tail rotor is directly connected to the drive train and no way to disconnect it.. (Without an RPG anyway.) They are built this way so that the tail rotor will continue to be fed power even if the engine dies.. (It will receive it's power at that point due to the wind flowing thru the main rotor and the main rotor will provide the tail rotor power.) Not sure why you would want to do this anyway as it is a definite crash when that happens.. No getting around it..

Which chopper to start with?
outlawal2 replied to CookPassBabtridge's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Hmmm embarrassed by everyone elses poor advice eh? (Well sure since yours is the only real advice worth listening to right?) Here's the problem with you saying everyone elses advice is so poor.. Had you bothered to take the time to actually READ what the OP stated, you would find this little GEM of info... "I want to learn on the most choppery chopper, as in the helicopter that will translate the most to other, 'standard' helicopters." So yeah, the Black Shark is as far away from that statement as is physically possible in DCS... Nearly nothing from the Black Shark is representative to the rest of the chopper world so try reading what is stated by the OP before stating that everyone else advice is poor... Based on that criteria the Huey is absolutely hands down the only choice... It is also the most difficult because of it.. Once mastered though, you will be able to transition to any rotor craft out there quite easily.. And in that respect it is also the most realistic as far as learning to fly one in the real world.. Even pilots of the Black Shark are not going to learn on a Shark, they are going to learn on a conventional helicopter much like the Huey and will have to master that before transitioning to the Shark.. -
I bought an LG 34" widescreen monitor and love it.. 3440x1440 so a lot of real estate but not as much required to drive it as a comparable 4K monitor would be.. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2RY1P38086&cm_re=lg_monitor_ips-_-24-005-635-_-Product Warning that you can only get the full 3440x1440 if you use the Displayport or the Thunderbird inputs... (I believe that HDMI can get the full amount of pixels but only at half the refresh rate making it 33mhz and that is totally unacceptable for gaming...) Displayport is the way to go but make sure your video card HAS a displayport output.. Also, the monitor comes with a 6 foot cable so if you need to go further you will need to ORDER a longer one off the net as they are impossible to find anywhere.. (I know I tried) I am driving this thing with an Nvidia GTX770 and I would say that is about as low as I would go to run this beast.. You may be able to run at lower settings with a lesser card but I really wouldn't try it myself.. Recommend a 770GTX or better.. And for the record no I would not go with a TV even though a lot of real estate, the resolution is too low and blocky looking.. Immersion killer in my opinion... A larger screen isn't very beneficial; if your resolution isn't high enough.. Otherwise you just have really big pixels in your face... (Once again just my opinion..) Now a 62" 4K TV? Now THAT would be awesome.. But you would need TITANs in SLI to run the damn thing!

Ok that last bit is a HUGE part of your problem... Turn the graphics way down if your rig can't hande it.. You are not only fighting the physics of helicopter flight but your system can't handle all the detail so it will run very inconsistent foiling any and all attempts at controlling it. (I know this as I had the same issues until I bought a new video card that could handle the detail. ) With my old card I had to turn nearly everything down to mid or even low settings, then the sim smooths out and you have some consistency in how it feels.. Try turning down clutter and objects / distance... Since you are trying to hover and land you don't need to see objects 50 miles away so turn them way down and experiment with different settings to get your frame rate up. You will be amazed at how much better it handles and easier when it is fluid and consistent and not choppy... -
Recommend a Great Joystick for DCS?
outlawal2 replied to Visceral Raptor's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Currently have the PRO version and definitely recommend it if you don't want to spend the cash for the Warthog or a Komodo Sims rig... I prefer choppers and if you intend to use the X-52 for helicopters, I highly recommend performing the center detent removal procedure found elsewhere on this forum.. Makes control of choppers infinitely better.. Also, the centering spring on the stick is too stiff for the kind of precision control required for choppers so I also recommend installing a zip tie on the spring so that you have some free movement near the center for fine movements / control... And finally, remove the afterburner detent on the throttle for the same reason as the zip tie on the stick.. If you leave the throttle detent installed (when using the throttle as a collective) you will fight the controls IMMENSELY when trying to land as the damned detent gets in the way at PRECISELY the moment you need fine control) I seriously got pissed at that thing for quite some time until I found the fix for it... (also elsewhere on this site..) You mention the base weight and I recommend firmly mounting all three parts, stick, collective and rudder pedals. Makes a huge difference in control and feel.. -
Who wants to buy the F-86 Sabre right now?
outlawal2 replied to Visceral Raptor's topic in DCS: F-86F Sabre
Actually the "Wild Speculation" is not believing the simple fact that they ran out of keys due to higher than anticipated sales... Unfortunately, this is the real world where dishonest people steal the work of honest people. Because of this we are all stuck with DRM (Digital Rights Management) Customers HATE DRM because it is a pain in the ass and the software developers hate it because it is difficult to setup and administer. The complexity adds cost to the final product as well and no one likes that.. Until the World turns into a Utopia, devs will have to continue to take great lengths to protect their hard work and this means things such as complex key creation. They batch keys according to expected sales and when sales greatly exceed these expectations they run out.. There is no conspiracy here, just $hit happens.. Do any of you work in the real world? If you do you can probably think of a 100 different similar examples of $hit happens right now.. None of which are some wild conspiracy to keep the Sabre out of your hands or to filch your hard earned money.. Turn the paranoia down a notch please... Do you really believe that ED wants to pi$$ everyone off and NOT sell the module they put their efforts into? GOOD GOD, give us all a break and have some patience.. They will replenish the keys and you will get your Sabre on sale... -
Give it a friggin rest.. They ran out of keys due to the high volume of orders.. This does not require 20 different threads to be started by you.. As for "How hard can it be to generate keys?" Since you and I have NO IDEA what the process is for generating the keys or what that entails, we really can't say can we? No wild conspiracy... $hit happens... Take a deep breath..

You can dislike the business model if you like, but they did not twist anyone's arms and were completely upfront regarding the expectations.. I completely agree that you should not participate and and spend any money on the BETA programs in the future as you folks are inappropriately upset over considerations that were communicated up front.
-
Anyone and everyone that feels this way please do not ever purchase a BETA release again as you clearly have no idea what that means. ED is under absolutely ZERO obligation to cater to your wants in regards to beta software. PERIOD If you disagree with this statement or simply cannot take the fact that there will be long periods of no updates , fixes etc... Then do not partake in the BETA process... It really is that simple... Please stop clogging up the forum with complaints about software that is not finished when it was clearly labelled as BETA and WIP... And for those that are upset that they continue to release modules for BETA without finishing the others, that has been explained many times... They are running a business and don't stop production on one module simply because another one has issues that need to be addressed. At that rate we would never have a finished module. (And everyone would bitch about how long it takes to get a module) If you don't like BETA then wait 5 years for the modules to be released and "completed" Personally, I enjoy being able to use the software now..

Are you playing in realistic mode? The Mustang tries to kill me every time I fly it! LOL The Sabre not so much, but it is also known as a very easy airplane to fly and very forgiving... May be something with your setup because the Stang is painful if you are not very careful with your inputs

Just how many threeads are you going to ask the same question ignoring the answers provided...? No one knows at this point.. SOON

Yeah Battlefield is the answer.. Yessiree... Man, reading some of the drivel on this forum I am really starting to wonder why I read these threads at all..

Thinking of Upgrading and Need some Advice
outlawal2 replied to Spasticatedtoad's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
When they speak about wattage vs lifetime of the PSU they are generally talking about over taxing the psu... Personally I do not worry about that, I simply pick the PSU that has enough power to do what I need to do (or INTEND TO DO) in the future and add a little bit of overhead... This method has worked well for me and I have not had any PSU issues in YEARS... Personally, I think you have now moved into the land of over-thinking and when you get there, GOD knows where you will wind up! I believe the site will recommend a 650 or so for you, so if you bump that to a 750 you will be fine.. (and I am betting that PSU will last a LOT longer than 1 year or a year and a half like you are thinking..) Buy a 750 and forget about it.. Let me rephrase that... Buy a NAME BRAND 750 and forget about it.. Never go cheap on the PSU.. Always buy a good brand.. I currently use OCZ Fatality 750W modular PS.. I have 3 of them I believe and zero issues with them... (there are many good brands and as is always the case, your mileage may vary...) -
Thinking of Upgrading and Need some Advice
outlawal2 replied to Spasticatedtoad's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Remember that when manufacturers or experts tell you that they recommend a 550Watt power supply as a minimum they are taking into account that you will have at least one HD, one optical drive, multiple USB devices etc... So they aren't saying that your video card requires 550 watts, they are saying that the entire machine WITH that video card requires a 550 watt ps... So what I am saying is that even if you were to run your system in SLI or Crossfire, that doesn't mean you will need a 1200 watt ps... Anyway, if you want to put this to final rest, go HERE http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp and fill out the info and I am betting it will say you won't need anything more than a 650watt PS even running Crossfire... (Just my guess) Try it and see what they say... Personally I always buy a 750 as that is plenty big enough to handle whatever I throw at it and common enough that they don't soak you for it like they do the big watt boxes..
