  2. Hi Case, In reference to the OPFOR-1 event, we will be using LRM probably close to the default settings and AMRACT for progress reports throughout the mission. We are thinking about no ET's but have not carved this in stone just yet. Either one death or two but certainly not infinite respawn. We will use airfield ownership as well. Frontline base for red which will spawn bombers/short range fighters is Kirovskoye rear bases for long range fighters are Simferopol and Saki. Blues forward base will be Gelendzhik and the rear bases will be Krasnodar-Pashkovskiy and Maykop. This may change some before the event but these are the broad strokes. We are still hammering out the specifics. ~PoleCat

  4. Chip creep can indeed happen albeit not very often. I just recently serviced a 3 year old box on site in which the video card (agp) which was clipped and screwed down had lost good contact in the slot. This was not gravity as the box was secured and could not have been slammed. Removed and re-seated it and all good. I have also seen this from time to time with memory modules. Regardless of screws/clips some cards modules can and will move from heat enough to prevent good contact within the slot. They do not pop out of the slots. That is just silly. They can sometimes move enough to need to be re-seated after a long time (usually many months) of heat cycling. It mostly occurs in older machines but can also occur infrequently with newer hardware as well. I have worked on many machines over the years and it is by no means something I see regularly but it is certainly not fiction or fantasy. It's also taught as a possible issue to check when troubleshooting and mentioned in several courses that prepare you for testing for CompTia A+ Hardware/Software certification and they do not usually present myth as a viable option to check while servicing machines. 5. This is like the 300th post on this now....jebus. Out
  6. Found this on another forum. The poster describes much better then I can what could possibly be another potential reason for your issue, chip creep. Maybe even the most likely "Chip Creep" Chip creep is the process of PC components creeping out of there expansion slot over time. This occurrence is directly caused by the heating and cooling of the ambient temp inside the PC case. As the temperature rises your components, and slots will expand, as the PC cools these same part shrink back down. The constant or frequent expanding and contracting inside your PC causes the "chips" to "creep" and become loose from there assigned slot. Chip creep can effect all different components and part inside the PC, from hard drives, to PCI slot, and RAM. Even Molex connectors and drive cables can be effected by chip creep and loose solid connection to the hardware. So keep in mind before you throw it out the window or bash it with a hammer... just rebuild it first you may be surprised at what it can fix.
  7. I will be buying this one. The flight model is outstanding. Not sure about the DRM thing but a sim this good deserves support. Out
  8. Lockon first then flaming cliffs then the 1.12 patch. No patches between and make sure you have the right patch for your version of the game. That is the most often made mistake AFAIK. Good Luck. Out
  9. The force is strong in this one. Out
  10. Cougar is a fine HOTAS as well. I highly recommend it. Every bit the competition for CH. Both the Cougar and the CH are highly programmable. Either one has facilities for advanced programming far beyond what 90% of owners will ever use. Out
  11. What stuff? Please try not to get too excited, it was a general response not intended to offend you. The debate here in the US revolves almost soley around the scientific and the religious views on the subject. So those are the arguments most often heard. I was not trying to imply that was your belief, I was asking your views and anyone elses views that cared to post on the subject and trying to have a little joke about it as well. My apologies if you were offended. Out
  12. What about the huge body of scientific evidence that supports the theory in general? Just because the missing link has not been found yet does not make the theory any less viable. They will find it if they already have not. So what is the opposing hypothisis now that intelligent design has been shown for the fraud that it is? Please don't tell me that the earth is 6000 years old and that we walked the earth along side of dinosaurs. Evidence is mounting all the time and very quickly that we evolved. Hard to to argue it if you respect education and higher learning at all. Good info here: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/link/ I think evolution is GOD's plan. Out
  13. Most are already compatible but it is my understanding that running 32bit app/games under a 64bit OS results in a small but noticeable performance hit and no advantages(although I could be wrong). Compile that with 64bit drivers for some hardware devices being buggy or unavailable even to this day and 64bit is not such an all or nothing deal. What is really needed is to make all new games/sims/apps 64bit native not compatible, this has been promised forever and still not delivered as a standard yet. Only then will 64bit become what every one would like it to be. It proceeds at a crawl outside of business usage IMHO. Hell we are still waiting for proper dual/quad proc support in almost everything gaming. I have a perfectly good triple boot configuration running WinXP Pro 32/Vista ultimate 64 and Win7 beta. All are set up and properly configured and even though I have 8Gb memory, for gaming I use XP Pro32 almost exclusively (LockOn, Black Shark, IL2). Why? Compatibility, stability, configuration. Much less screwing around on XP32 to get sound/video/multiple monitors/Hotas working properly for these sims on a basic level and since they do not get any gain from 64bit why bother with it. I can boot to Vista 64 for my DAW and business environment needs and at least get some of the true advantages of 64bit (still with some caveats). If I had to choose one right now I would have to say that 64bit is still not totally ready for prime time gaming unless you are ready to accept some disadvantages due to the 32bit universe we live in although we are a lot closer than ever before. Out
  14. It is completely inaccurate to say it runs via "old" technology. "XPM is built on the next generation Microsoft Virtual PC 7 product line, which requires processor-based virtualization support (Intel and AMD) to be present and enabled on the underlying PC, much like Hyper-V, Microsoft's server-side virtualization platform." What people need to realize is that XP mode for Win7 is about application compatibility not game compatibility. This will likely NOT be a panacea for those that want to run every old xp game that they have under Win7 even if you do have Processor based virtualization support. It is about assuring compatibility in a business environment to make the transition form the older OS to the new one as tranparent and smooth as possible. This is not to say that it will not help to get some games to run, only that this is not its purpose. Out

  19. This is likely not a router issue as no forwarded ports are needed to join a game as client only to act as a server. Make sure you are using the correct version of the game. LockOn Flaming Cliffs version 1.12 is what most servers are running on HyperLobby. So you will need Lock On: Modern Air combat and then Flaming Cliffs installed and patched to 1.12 to join on HL. I hope this is helpful to you. Out
  20. This could be because you need to press the keys in the following order RCtrl-RShift-TAB in order for them to work. Also make sure you have "permit crash recover" enabled in game options. I hope this is helpful to you. Out
  21. That is the most paranoid thing I have read in a long while! Could it be more likely that TIR is a just whole lot more popular in the flight sim communtiy and that a lot of people love the product? Doesn't that sound a whole lot more rational? Naturalpoint advertises every where man. Visit some flight sim web sites to see thier ads. Maybe make a post over at thier forums and ask them out right if they do this. My guess...They don't need to and the notion is laughable. Out
  22. In the NP forums users who have upgraded have reported having noticed perceptible improvements in stability and tracking of the 5 over the 4. I can say from first hand knowledge having had every TIR ever made that each and every one of them improves perceptibly on the hardware and tracking. I would think that the TIR 5 will be no exception. In regards to statements about my views on the other alternatives, as with most things in life I feel you get what you pay for. You can make decisions for yourselves of course but for me the old rules hold tried & true. I will call them decent free/low cost alternatives as I have but IMHO they are not on a par with TIR in terms of hardware/software. Of course there is no "need" to upgrade if you are happy with what you have. What is wrong with every one having the option to buy a new TIR 5 if they so desire without being told how "unnecessary" or "overpriced" it is by all those that don't want one/can't afford one/don't think its worth it/? Why the need to prove that TIR5 is improved? It is clearly improved in hardware and concept and all the older ones that "work fine" for so many of us now cost even less and will be supported by newer improved software. Benefits none of us would have without TIR5. All you need to be able to do is read to figure that out. In a few months when the price of the TIR5 settles to the average selling price of the TIR 4 there will be no more need to question it. Those that are buying new will likely opt for the better hardware for the same price they would have paid for the TIR4 only the year before, I know I would. I like seeing the products we use being improved upon, supported, and upgraded. I see no reason not to whole heartedly support such an outstanding product and company. Out
  23. This has been dealt with to some degree in the TIR 5 software which also works for TIR 4 and soon 3 w/vector. It allows you to hone in on extreneous lights sources with in the camreas view and configure the camera to ignore them. Out
