My TIR 5 arrived yesterday. I sold my TIR4 to a squad mate for 70 beans. After having used the 5 for several hours in Black Shark and LockOn IMHO I think that the TIR5 is great and better then the TIR4 but for me not by leaps and bounds. I have also used every TIR from the 1st one to the last. All excellent products. The 4 is also an excellent device and properly setup has a minimum of issues. I do not regret the purchase and I agree with much of what smoky posted. I just don't feel that the difference feels quite as significant as he does. Out

Great job everyone! Special thanks to the 159th, X-Man and all the other nice people who worked so hard to bring LOCERF 09-2 together. The 104th really enjoyed participating along side and opposing so many outstanding squads and pilots. We certainly are looking forward to the next one! It was great fun and very professional. Out

For my cougar I use the following statement: MIX 5 17 (0 6 12 18 24 29 35 41 47 53 59 65 71 76 82 88 94 100)MSX(-40)MSX(-30)MSX(-20)MSX(-12)MSX(-7)MSX(-4)MSX(-2)MSX(-1)MSX(0)MSX(1)MSX(2)MSX(4)MSX(7)MSX(12)MSX(20)MSX(30)MSX(40) MIY 5 17 (0 6 12 18 24 29 35 41 47 53 59 65 71 76 82 88 94 100)MSY(40)MSY(30)MSY(20)MSY(12)MSY(7)MSY(4)MSY(2)MSY(1)MSY(0)MSY(-1)MSY(-2)MSY(-4)MSY(-7)MSY(-12)MSY(-20)MSY(-30)MSY(-40) then I set Device "Mouse" "Axis": Axis0 to TDS slew horizontal and Axis1 to TDS slew vertical. There is both a modman pack and an exe installer. I believe with the exe I had the same problem of white textures on the A-10. DL the modman pack and try that one, it should work ok. Otherwise I think you need to manually add some lines to the meinit.xml file. This is a common problem. Come to the 104th TS and I am sure Aero or one of the other guys can help you sort it out. Also before modding anything ALWAYS backup the Lock On folder after installing and patching to 1.12. This way when this sort of thing happens (and it always does eventually) it is easy to revert by deleting your screwed up Lock On folder and copying the clean unmodded one back when needed. (Credit to Ice for this one.) Out Edit: Just about all of these mods can be found at lockonfiles.com For me the install that works best is: Install Lock On Install Flaming Cliffs (If FC DL version also install the all seasons terrain.) Install 1.12 Back up entire Lock On folder here. Install LoCFG tweak app. (optional..available at lockonfiles.com). Install Modman 7.1.1.0 install Walmis F-15 model (exe) Install updated weapons for Walmis F-15 Model (modman) Install conformal fuel tanks F-15 (modman) Install Simmod A-10A (modman pack not exe) Install Simmod A10A + Walmis F-15 + Walmis weapons compatibility pack (modman) Install Su-27 3GO mod (exe). Do a quick fly in each of the above listed AC. F-15, A10A, and Su-27. Make sure you can see the new models on each AC from external view. From here I install my 104th squad specific skins made by Ruggbutt and Aero, through modman. (There are non squad specific skins also available at lockonfiles.com) Now it is terrain and environment improvements for me: Install LOreload (Modman) Install enhanced terrain by Ruggbutt (Modman) Install enhanced structures by ruggbutt (modman) This install combined with a good system, the correct graphics settings and a few choice user specific mods yields an excellent visual expereiece for me in LockOn. There are many much better guides then this slapped together deally as well. I hope it is at least some what helpful. Out

Lockon FC is working almost perfectly for me under Win 7 Ultimate x64. Just a couple of small issues with skins (Modded). Other wise not half bad and more stable than under XP for me as well. Also fully agree with the Crunchster on his comment. Keep trying Mastiff, I don't think it is the OS that is the problem. Lockon gets along with XP, Vista, and Win7 32 x86 and x64 with as I said just a few small issues. I am referring to Flaming Cliuffs and not the vanilla Lock On Out

Black Shark and HOTAS selection.
PoleCat replied to Callsign.Vega's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The Cougar works great for me and many in the 104th. Its problems are overstated in general. Try it you will like it. The logitech product looks nice and the split throttle and FF is really cool but the software is lacking in terms of the unavailability of any truly advanced programming like the Cougar or the CH is capable of. IMHO the Cougar or CH is the best choice. Out -

You do not need to use "Global settings" nor should you if you can help it. You want the levels of AA and AF applied program specifically. It will work. I struggled with it like you and in the end finally go it to work. If you want to leave it globaly applied of course you can but if you would like it to work as designed here are a few more things you could try: It is normal that Black Shark is not listed under ""Show only programs installed on this computer"" It will not appear in this list even after you add it you must still uncheck the box before "Show only programs installed on this computer" to see it. Try this. Under "3D settings" in the "adjust image settings with preview" section on the right pane select and apply "use my preferences emphasizing Balanced" after Applying it then once again tick the "Use the advanced 3D image settings" button and apply. Click on "take me there" (after applying). Here click the "Program settings" tab. Uncheck the box before "Show only programs installed on this computer" Click "add" Browse to DCS.exe select 8x AF then under "Antialiasing mode" select "Override any application setting" and set 8x antialiasing. Now click "apply". Hope this is helpful. If not feel free to come to our TS at the 104th and we will try to help you sort it out if you like. Just hit our website at www.104thphoenix.com and click on the TS module on the right to join. pass is phoenix. Good Luck! Out

Which drivers are you using? OS? Video Card? Maybe we can sort this out. It is not launcher.exe ever. It is always DCS.exe. If you are using the latest whql nvidia drivers in the Nvidia control panelunder 3D settings "adjust image settings with preview" in the right pane select (tick the radio button) "use the advanced 3D image settings" and apply. After this click "Manage 3D settings" set up your programs under the "Program settings" tab in the right pane. Click "add" and browse to the DCS.exe in your bin\stable folder. As mentioned for Antialiasing mode select "override any application setting" then set your own level of AA and AF and click apply. The settings should stick as long as you are pointing to the DCS.exe not the launcher. Out

How to improve FPS with my GeForce GTX 260?
PoleCat replied to Speed_2's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Sorry mate. You are correct DCS Max not needed after patch. Only 1.0 under Vista/7. Do check the visib range setting though. Out -

You may also try setting graphics in game settings Visib Range to medium or low. Should gain some fps there. For XP Full screen for Vista Windowed mode. Use DCS max if multi core CPU. Best of luck. Out -
How to improve FPS with my GeForce GTX 260?
PoleCat replied to Speed_2's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
This sim is CPU bound as is LockOn. While tweaking may help the graphics some it is likely you are bottle necked at the CPU. I don't think you would likely see some vast improvement by moving to an ATI card for this or Lock On. Maybe different levels of graphics settings or AA/AF driver settings might account for the difference you are seeing? Out -

Pull. Seems more sensible to me. Always done it that way since Longbow 2. Out -
IMHO an X-fi is a lot less trouble and a better solution for gaming audio than any onboard solutions I have tried. I always disable my onboard sound and install a decent quality X-Fi Fatality Pro PCI or PCI-E. I am using them on 3 systems under all OS's including Vista, XP, and Win 7 without issue. It is nonsense that onboard solutions are just as good. They use cpu cycles where an X-Fi does not because they rely on your cpu to do much of the work that an X-Fi handles with its own SPU and memory. Also the "Creative Vista blunder" is essentially resolved with Creative Alchemy software while most onboard sound card makers are still struggling to produce similar software for their own solution to the same issues. My overall experience with on board sound is as stated above, they are good enough for really crappy speakers and general desktop use but do not expect them to sound great and if you want smooth gaming with EAX, 7.1 or other types of effects you will likely need a decent dedicated sound card for that. Quite simply put you get what you pay for. Out

I think with practice you can easily learn to fly with either the new trimmer implemented in the patch by switch or the old trimmer logic. I do not have a FF stick setup and both of these trimmer modes are still quite managable. No need to use the trim reset if you prefer not to. If you opt not to use the trim reset at all how can it be an issue by being an option for others to use if they like? The trimmer in either mode is not a big problem at all for most. It just takes practice like flying the KA-50 in general IMHO. Out
