  1. TrackIR is the original, is natively supported by our sims, and works the best out of the three available options IMHO. Check each of the web sites for these products read and dig deep and I am fairly certain you will come to this conclusion. If you can afford it the TIR 4/5 is second to none. If not then take your pick of the two lesser alternatives. They are not as good as TIR but they are clearly decent free/low cost alternatives. If nothing else these will help you decide whether or not to invest in a TIR unit down the road if the alternatives do not meet with your expectations but the head tracking concept does. I think you will like it very much. Out
  2. Lockon Flaming Cliffs is still a great sim and a great bargain...Go get it and support the cause for future development! Out
  3. Cougar or CH. Forget FFB. Save your money and buy a good one or add this 30-40 bucks to the pile you'll wish you never spent before you realized you had to spend more to get what you wanted.:joystick: Out
  4. The greatest single difference between Vista and Win7 is that Win7 will actually have hardware drivers that work on release. Thanks in great part goes to Vista driver development and the similarity of hardware drivers between these two OS's. The drivers for Vista have been developed to a point where they actually yield good performance by now and Win7 gets to benefit from that and now the Emperor has new clothes. IMHO this is the main reason why everyone says/said Vista sux. Win7 is so close to Vista it is more correct to call it a Vista service pack. I am surprised at how many who hated Vista are acting like Win7 is so much more when it is clearly almost the same exact OS in just about every single way. Out
  5. After a good gaming PC and HOTAS there is nothing more vital to simming then a TIR. Absolutely worth every last penny..... Out

  7. Yes indeed. I thought everyone knew that already, running at 8x8 AF/AA via Nvidia CP. Looks great!:) Out
  8. I was about to suggest a firmware update for his optical drive. It could be that his specific drive would not recognize some newer media with out it. Glad he got it worked out though. Enjoy! Out

  10. Personally I believe that ET life exists some where in the universe. The UFO phenomana as seen from earths history so far does nothing what ever to convince me that they are visiting us. In a world of digital photography and 24/7 news cycles I am more sure then ever that if there were other worldly craft visiting us we would have more proof then the shoddy stuff on UFO Hunters and the obvious debunked fakes that are produced over and over again at nauseum. I think they are out there, I just do not think they are here but the worlds militarys are and they are always working on top secret AC that they should not and can not acknowledge. Adding fuel to the debate. Out
  11. VAC http://www.dwvac.com/ or Shoot http://clans.gameclubcentral.com/shoot/ and the Shoot editor http://www.onlineconferencingsystems.com/shoot/shoot_editor.htm are both programs you could use for this. The latter is free the former is 30 day shareware trial 18 bucks to purchase. I highly recommend VAC. Out

  14. If XP I suggest full screen in game settings and create a profile in the Nvidia Control panel for Black Shark AA=8X and AF=8X vsync on. I don' mess with the other settings you mentioned so not sure on those. As for LockOn, I run in windowed mode AA=4X and AF=8X. I run the AA at 4X because of wierdness with zooming in at higher AA settings. No vsync on lockon for me Works great for me. Out
  15. I am using SoftTH on my system with Black Shark: Asus P5Q-PRO Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 3.33Ghz (OC 4.02GHz) 8GB (4X2GB) Mushkin DDR2-1066 memory EVGA Nvidia GTX-260 (core 216) EVGA 9800GT 512MB PCI-E 28" Viewsonic 2835wm 2 X 22"Samsung 226BW 2x 750GB Seagate SATA II 7200RPM Hard Drive w/16MB Buffer (Raid 0)(WinXP_Pro Sp3) 2x 500GB Seagate SATA II 7200RPM Hard Drive w/16MB Buffer (Raid 0) (Vista x64/Win7 x64) Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatality Creative Inspire 7.1 Speaker System Lite-On SHM 165H6S DVD-RW OS Dual boot: WinXP_Pro Sp3 & Vista x64 Ultimate/Win7 x64 DirectX 9.0c Thrustmaster Cougar (Uber2 NXT Mod) Simped vario Pro Rudders w/F-16 Toe brake addon. Tactile Feedback System 2.0 17" Touchscreen & Touchbuddy Software TrackIR4 Pro Logitech G-15 Gamers Keyboard Logitech G-9 Laser Mouse Logitech G-25 FF Racing Wheel I run a resolution of 5040x1050 and Black Shark is really great with 3 monitors under XP Pro. I see a very slight perceptible FPS loss although I have not tested for the exact difference yet. I think SoftTh is an excellent solution. i have not tried the TH2GO hardware but it seems really great as well. Out
  16. He means the Digital F-22 Pro and TQS not the stock. I think Shepski might have these controllers and be able to help if he is still about..... Out

  18. New Beta software for both the TIR 4 & 5. Looks great, Go get it! http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/06-support/support-download-software-and-manuals.html Make sure to backup your old profiles when uninstaling TIR4 software. After install of TIR 5 manually copy your profiles from C:\Program Files\NaturalPoint\TrackIR4\Profiles to C:\Program Files\NaturalPoint\TrackIR5\Profiles Out

  20. I wear glasses at the PC all the time and I do not have to tweak TIR at all for it. What I think most people are doing with the TIR software is creating and customizing their specific game files not tweaking the unit to work correctly. TIR supports game specific profiles and you can customize them (or not)to your hearts content. They will auto load at launch of your favorite sim as TIR is natively supported by the titles. One thing is for sure it works and it works well pretty much automatically. The precison is so good that over time you tweak your files to be more responsive as you get used to using it. It is $150 for the unit and the Track Clip Pro but only $129 for the unit and the vector clip. Also some sim sites have direct links to money off coupons as well. SimHQ etc. Can save another 10-15 on the purchase usually. That being said I am stoked that you guys have head tracking and enjoy it. It really does bring flight sims to a new level and being without this as a regular part of any gaming setup would really blow. The price is certainly right! Happy Flying and looking around. Peace Out:joystick:
  21. Ok guys obviously we disagree. I find TIR far better then the web cam solution I have tried and it does not take a couple of hours to get working right. My time is worth the extra money to have what I consider to be a problem free solution. If you are happy with cachya then great for you. I am not going to get into the hardware specs on everything although I have confidence that TIR is better for its purpose then Free track is. I have not tried cachya and will likely not bother to. In honesty the first post "is" a user review on it and it does not look so good to me by comparison. Out
  22. None of these issues have ever been a problem for me with TIR. Lighting behind you "can" potentially play a role, but is easily solved. Fewer issues then this with TIR for sure. Enough said. Out
  23. Couldn't agree more with this post. How would he know it does the same thing "as well" with only a few minutes at a friends house trying and failing to get TIR working well as evidence? Most of the time it is what is between the monitor and the chair that is the problem when people have issues with hardware. "Looking down and to the right" or "snapping off" is a rudimentary issue with TIR setup and is usually easily solved by any one who gives a minimum effort to read the support forums. I would also like to see a side by side comparison as I have tried Free Track already and TIR just feels much better and more responsive to me. TIR is likely the far better solution. Not because it costs more but because it is the standard to which these others have so far tried to reach and failed to achieve. When I fly I want my gear to be supported, completely customizable, and work without hassle and TIR fills that need for many of us perfectly well. Worth every last cent. Out
