  1. Read what Crunch posted above. There was likely no need to have purchased again because ED is really good about supporting their product and their customers you may have very well ended up with a new activation code at no charge. I have purchased Flaming Cliffs download 5 times over the past 5 years because I own 4 fast gaming machines which I upgrade often. I have no problem with the activation method or the price. I am happy to support this fine company with multiple purchases at such a reasonable price. Only after you have purchased the download three times would you even be close to the price that most other titles sell for in the first place. A real bargain for a sim of this qualtiy IMHO. If you do not like this method go get the Flaming Cliffs CD and you will just need to pop it in the drive once a week no matter how often you change hardware. I do not want a steam release as I already use it for some games and dislike the fact that you need to be connected to the internet to play a SP game. I have also found that there is not one single game on steam that does not cost LESS to have shipped to you in DVD form. I will be doing that from now on. So you see there is already another method in place that should satisfy you not having to ever buy it again. Simply buy the disk. Steam is bad IMHO and even though I use it for a few games it will never again be my first choice for a purchasing method. Out
  2. This really does seem like a starforce issue judging from that error. Make sure the 1.12 patch is the correct one for your install. Also if you attempt to re-install again make sure to delete any and all left over LockOn folders before you re-install it. Dont forget after the patch 1.12 is installed do not run the game yet. Instead go to starforce web site and get the sfupdate and install it to update the protection drivers and then one more reboot and you should be good to go. Best of luck. Keep us posted. Out
  3. I am running under Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and just recently did a full re-install and the patch. I have had no such issues. Did you Install it under and administrator account with UAC disabled outside of the program files folder? Localization issue maybe? Sorry you are having troubles and best of luck finding a solution. S! Out
  4. This is incorrect. No patches should be installed in between LockOn and FC and the only patch after FC should be 1.12. The proper sequence is as follows: 1: Install Lock On (If under Vista/Win7 install with admin rights and UAC disabled, consider install outside of program files directory ie; "C:\Games\Ubisoft\Eagle Dynamics\Lock On\") 2: Install Flaming Cliffs (If FC DL version also install the all seasons terrain.) 3: Install the correct Flaming cliffs 1.12 patch for your version CD or DL. (Avialable at Lockon.ru). 4: Windows Vista or Windows 7 users should Install the latest Starforce Driver update (SFUpdate) here then reboot) 5: Enter the game and configure your HOTAS, Sound and Graphics options. 6: Back up the entire Lock On folder (Make a copy of the LockOn folder. Rar or zip is also fine). Just in case you ever corrupt the install you can fall back to this clean one with out a full re-install. Out
  5. Yes I read that. It seems to be an issue when over clocking past 4.2GHZ with foxconn sockets. I am going to check my CPU as soon as my water block arrives next week. I will return my Asus board if I see this issue and find one with one of the other types of Sockets. I will also phone Intel and ask what they can tell me about this issue. I think it is more likely that some bad out of spec sockets made it into some of these boards rather then that ALL foxconn socket boards are affected. Thank you for the heads up and even though I was aware of this issue I will be watching it closely. This news broke exactly one day after my parts arrived and my system was built. Thankfully I still have time to return my board. The question is which boards are absolutely using the other sockets? I can't seem to find one besides EVGA and those are supposed to be hit or miss. 7. The Uber II NXT and FSSB are excellent mods, both of which I own. Be aware however that these mods are totally optional. Don't get me wrong, modding a Cougar is great! Using an NXT or FSSB modded Cougar is awesome and yields a HOTAS in a class all by itself. The point I am making here is that there is absolutely not a requirement to MOD a stock Cougar by spending large amounts of cash. If you want or need to address any possible wear issues to prolong the life of your stock Cougar and minimize the chance of increased center play over time you also have two very low cost options for that: 1: Open the stick twice per year and clean out the old grease and re-grease. This will remove the older grease and with it any metal particles caused by galling and by extension reduce wear to a minimum. (Takes about 10 minutes) 2: Buy 50 cents worth of Mylar and a pair of 2 cent staples or splurge and go for 5 dollars worth of hobby brass and you can be finished with it. Pretty much no serious wear will occur if you do either of these DIY mods and instead of paying 400USD on a mod you can all but eliminate the issue for the whopping cost of 54 cents or 5 bucks.:smilewink: I have many friends and squad mates that have not even bothered to do this much to their stock Cougars and have been very happy with theirs for quite some time. Enjoy your Cougar! Out
  8. Can I use this over network? My main rig has 3 screens 1 x 28" center and 2 x 22"sides. None of these are touch screens. I also have a fast notebook with a secondary 17" monitor and touchscreen overlay. Any way to use this program server/client like touch buddy? Great work! Out

  10. A brief comparison of the Windows experience ratings from my old system to my new one. Not that these mean much but it is nice to see that even at near stock speeds the new rig out shines the old already. Now on to overclocking.......:)
  11. In my opinion buy Intel not AMD. At this time I would not even consider AMD. Go with i7 in the 1156 socket (Asus P7P55D line is nice. I went with the Pro). Get the Lynnfield 860 or 870, 4GB of fast DDR3 1600 or 2000 memory. Any GTX-275 or above (or ATI equiv). Full specs on my purchase here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=764381#post764381 Alienware builds great systems but they are over the top in price and fluffed configurations. This recipe will put you in the latest technology P55E chipset so there may be some small teething issues. But this selection for me is about a fast gaming rig with the latest technology and a little future padding built in. Consider the value and performance for the money spent. The P7P55D has DDR3-2200 support, RAID, SLI and Crossfire support, the new 1156 socket, high quality parts and the potential for outstanding over clocking for short money (At least as is compared to a proprietary machine). My current P5Q-Pro and C2D E8600 OC to 4.0Ghz gets me 60FPS in Black shark at 1920x1200 8x AA and AF most all the time. All graphics high except visb rng low. I really think even this rig will be hard to beat and it can be had for even less than my original recommendation. I purchased nothing between the C2D I have now and the new rig I mentioned above and I am still convinced there was no need to. If you want the latest technology, a really fast computer, a little longevity and value for the money my choices here are a result of a couple of days of hard research on the subject. There is a lot of good advice in this thread so far. I would read it well, research yourself, read some reviews and user experiences and you will be rewarded with a great system. Best of luck Matt! I hope you end up with a kick ass gaming rig.:prop: Out
  12. Thank you to the original creator of the TB profile Mr Dastardly, and to Gadrock for the hard work on TouchPal. Nice job to you both! Out
  13. Yes they are still available. Absolutely excellent mod. Go here: http://www.cubpilotshangar.net/ for the Hall sensors and email Ian Johnston for info on the NXT Mod. ubermod AT optusnet.com.au Out
  14. I just purchased parts for my new rig yesterday. I went with the following components: ASUS P7P55D PRO LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard Intel Core i7 860 Lynnfield 2.8GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor Mushkin 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000). GTX-275/9800GT combo (1X 28” Viewsonic & 2X 22” Samsung) (Already using these) (I could try 2x GTX260s in SLI (Not sure if I want this yet. Never been a big fan of SLI but I have the cards if I want to try it.)) I will use my existing X-FI for sound. I will attempt to adapt my Ultra Chilltec TEC cooler (Socket 775) to fit on the newer 1156. There is about a 2mm difference in the spacing of the mounting holes. OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 I am replacing an Asus P5Q-PRO with an E8600 C2D @ 4.0 GHz so my expectations are not that high for a huge performance improvement. I hope I am not disappointed and realize at least some good over clocking and perceptible performance gains even over such a fast and stable existing system. I think the choices I made here were fairly sound as far as value for the money goes. It is the newest platform/Socket (for now) and doesn’t break the bank for the core components. With any luck it will mature into as fine a choice as the P5Q-Pro and E-8600 turned out to be for me. The parts should arrive by the middle of next week. I will let you know how the build turns out and whether I would recommend this configuration as whole heartedly as my last one.:) Out

  17. You likely used the wrong patch. Uninstall all. Delete the left over directory and then try this: 1: Install Lock On (If under Vista/win7 install outside of program files directory ie; "C:\Games\Ubisoft\Eagle Dynamics\Lock On\") 2: Install Flaming Cliffs (If FC DL version also install the all seasons terrain.) 3: Install the correct Flaming cliffs 1.12 patch for your version CD or DL. (Avialable at Lockon.ru). 4: Windows Vista or Windows 7 users should Install the latest Starforce Driver update (SFUpdate) here then reboot) 5: Enter the game and configure your HOTAS, Sound and Graphics options. 6: Back up the entire Lock On folder (Make a copy of the LockOn folder). Rar or zip is also fine. Just in case...... Out
  18. Yes Cougar working here under win7 x64. Use the file 2007_HCO_VISTA_64_RC1.exe found here http://ts.thrustmaster.com/eng/index.php?pg=view_files&gid=1&fid=3&pid=50&cid=1 and install it in Vista SP1 Compatibility mode with administrator rights. You may also want to shut off UAC for the install.. Should work. Out
  19. You can use RED/Blue glasses and see the effects but without good color. Witha 120Hz monitor and the proper polarized glasses it is much better. The other option is certain DLP projectors which are also supported. I am leaning that way as I like big. Out
  20. Yes it does support this game and LockOn. They are both rated as "good". I am seriously considering this the more I think about it. Out
  21. If it only happens in DCS, it is probably not the unit or the setup but the profile being used for DCS. Try to make a custom profile for it or edit the one you have for a better response. If it is unstable in other games/sims best advice I can give you from my experience is to: A: Limit light sources as best you can from behind you. B: Experiment with the position and distance of the TIR unit. C: Try it at different distances from you (within reason) and postion it at the same level as the clip. D: Use the camera view to make sure your head when at rest center is postioned in the center of the cameras field of view. Hope you figure it out. Good Luck! Out

  23. Hi Crunch, Not flying in 3D at the moment. I may get the viewsonic 22" 120Hz monitor and try it out. This is the nvidia driver stereo application using red/blue glasses. One thing that I have noticed is that even with red/blue glassesI can tell the technology has come a long way. Used to be when you would zoom in and out in LockOn or Black Shark there would be really bad alignment problems. This appears to be pretty well resolved here. I game with a Viewsonic 28" in the middle and 2x22" Samsungs on the side now. I don't know how I will take to a smaller one for 3D. Maybe projectors though.......... Out
  24. I thought you might like to see these 3D screenshots of the Black Shark cockpit. You will need red/blue cheapo 3D glasses to view them. :D Out
