Hi
lowering the flaps at high speed don't work because the wind is strong enough to retract them, even if the flaps lever is in the down position, but my question is, is it causing damage to the hydraulic actuator, or any damage to the flap mechanism?
I know that in the F-6F pilots were leave the flaps lever in the down position, and at high speeds the flaps retract by the wind. but when they where slower enough, the flaps extended, while turning in dogfight for a better turn, or for a landing.
on the other hand, i know that in the P-47, if you where lower your flaps at high speed it broke the flap mechanism and the flaps remains connected to the wing, but loose.
So, how it works in the P-51? letting the hydraulic actuator trying to lower the flaps and fight the wind at high speeds is damaging the mechanism?
Thx
