APCs avoid bridge... then cross it anyway
ENO replied to Frost15's topic in User Created Missions General
I've often wondered about where this ended up. Unfortunate... very unfortunate. -
For this one in particular what I have been doing is just clicking "uncontrolled." That way they just sit there. Nice thing is you can change their skins and weapons as well to add a little variety.

I see it's taken a couple of days for guys to answer this one so I'll weigh in here. It's really going to depend on the server... many of the serious ones have threads in this section so if you see them in the server list and take a quick look in here you'll be able to see right off the bat how seriously things are taken. I've seen everything from rigid following of protocols from resident experts and I've seen guys respecting the flight ethics you described above and just playing it to the extent of their experience. Trying to be courteous... trying to be mindful of an active runway... getting to the target and calling out shots etc... There has been a module out for a little over a year that allows for an ATC but to be quite honest I haven't ever used it and never experienced it. No idea where that's at now. Squadrons have their individual processes- again some have commitment requirements and high expectations while others are literally just a bunch of dudes who like to fly together. TS3 isn't mandatory but needless to say it is very highly recommended. Each squadron would have its own channel- password protected or not... it really depends. So don't think that the DCS culture is restricted to one style of play... but it will take some time before you feel out the group of guys you want to hang out with- who also want to hang out with you. As for mission descriptions / briefings... you join up... generally select a position and then the briefing screen comes up with as much detail as the designer has put into it. I did a pretty lengthy write up quite some time ago that I suspect still applies. I'll see if I can find it... (Found it: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2006687&postcount=3 ) Good luck out there.

Complete Transport and Logistics Deployment - CTLD
ENO replied to Ciribob's topic in Scripting Tips, Tricks & Issues
I saw this and I thought it might help... not sure if crates are the same as other static objects or not? http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=154806 -
Yes I do remember that frustrating quality about you! :) I have been up north since the day after I was having trouble so I haven't had a lot of opportunity to set anything up... Did recently solve a teamviewer problem I was having so that was a relief- I can then edit directly through the server and not have to worry about having 50 gigs of DCS on my laptop. I've got Einstein on steam- he told me about the mudspike fly-in but I couldn't put my gear back together again in time... Hoping to get some more stick time in this weekend. Maybe I'll see ya! I'm scared to even open some of my older missions... the dozens we built... not sure if any of them will survive since they depended on various CSAR / CTTS scripts- I think I'll just need to revamp those ideas and start from scratch. Developing single missions with variable tasks is what I'd like to focus on. I'm still a little distracted by World of Warships... but that's a fad that is fading day by day. See you.

How To Set Russian AC as Friendly Force (BlueFor)?
ENO replied to DrDetroit's topic in Mission Editor
There is also a way to go into the game files and add the individual aircraft (or any type of hardware / infantry etc) to a particular country... So for example in this case you could just add the SU27 (et al) over to "United States" so it appeared in the list of available aircraft when you build the mission. It's very easy to change- if that's what you want to do. Otherwise the coalition change can work as described above. -
So I did get a chance to grab that new NTTR list from Wolle's thread on the subject- and used that information to plunk into the script in its existing format. Everything worked pretty well while I was watching it the first 10-15 minutes or so but this popped up in the log and resulted in a total crash so no track. It looks to be more alpha pathfinding related than script related... and I realized after looking at the script again that I hadn't originally used proper zone names in my previous mission attempt. This time aircraft spawned in, taxied and then flew to the turn around zone (airlanehub1). All manners of aircraft appeared as scripted by design... randomly as expected and within proper time parameters (optional in the script). So I'm quite certain that without doing anything else to the script this may still work... buuuuuut I've read that aircraft are having difficulty taxiing and collisions have occurred. So right now in my inexperienced eye I think it's more an issue with the alpha and not the script itself.
-
Thanks... that saves some frustration for sure.
-
Yes I'm quite certain that's exactly what I was looking for. (that sounded weird... but let's say that's how I roll.) Now, the trick is going to be to dissect that script that SNAFU made and see where I can plunk in those numbers... then hope for the best! If I find the same airfield data for the Caucasus region in his script THEN I'll know if it was what I was looking for. :pilotfly:
-
I am trying to build a bit of an active template for some Nevada work... I gave SNAFU's random aircraft generator script a buzz a couple days ago and got mixed results. Aircraft were actually appearing but not moving around- and if they were moving it seems there are AI bugs that are preventing them from really doing what they're supposed to be doing. I'm thinking I'll be able to do this tonight, but one thing that would help (if someone beats me to it) is having a list of airfield names as they're registered / entered in the ME scripts. To do this a person just needs to place a plane at every airfield and then open the .miz file to see how the airfield is entered in the documentation. What this will allow for is for people to enter the specific airfield information into their scripts- old or new. I don't think anyone has done it yet and as mentioned I can do it tonight when I get home from work- but if someone's sitting around twiddling their thumbs today that info may be beneficial. Blooze: One of my ambitions, and something I'm wanting to do for my own enjoyment, is exactly the type of training scenario you had in mind- building missions for "training" to go over the pond. Unfortunately a lot of the immersion scripts that help to enhance that suspension of disbelief are in pretty rough shape and I don't have the skills or know-how to go in and look under the hood. With that said, provided you don't have high expectations in terms of productions quality (ie: voice overs / realistic comms chatter etc) and are happy with a decent mission briefing, a reasonable flight to target, refueling and a somewhat elusive and / or random target behavior preserving some element of what I call realism... then I should have a few missions built in relatively short order. Problem is I need to make my "activity" template first to add some clutter for the initial stages- and random taxi / air traffic is a nice touch. Maybe not one that is in a working state right now.
-
Thanks SNAFU. I can work on that tonight when I get back to camp... unless someone beats me to it.
-
Eh Crew... Okay... this time I mean it. I'm going to try to get this thing back off the ground. I went for my first flight the other day... felt good. A bit on the rough side but things were coming back. I'll definitely be picking your brain in short order! Building some templates for the NTTR to make building some missions a bit easier. Looking forward to getting the gang back together! Ugh... Blooze- man, I feel for you. I didn't have that happen but I've had to start a few things off from scratch because of other troubling glitches. The days of setting up elaborate paths for ground vehicles just to watch them humping up and down the road and getting lost in the wreckage of one vehicle... oh the humanity!
-
Well hopefully someone with some energy remaining will, with your permission of course, be able to blow some of the dust off and maybe at least get it working. I can probably do the new list of airfields etc but anything more than that and I'll do more harm than good.

AI flies with no flight path created. New feature, bug, or old?
ENO replied to nigelmcelwee's topic in Mission Editor
The script library has a few great additions that can really add some immersion to the average mission- even just by livening up the airports you're using in your missions. Alternatively there are CAP / GCI scripts available as well that can be put to use even with a minimum amount of scripting experience. -
Eh guys. So I'm busy trying to build an active template for the NTTR and DCS 2.0 and of course one of my first priorities was to have some "action." I went through and plunked in some data on the off chance it might actually work... and to my surprise it "sort of" did. Sort of? Seems aircraft were being generated... but many didn't take off and just sat idling in their spot for seemingly random amounts of time. Others appeared and either spontaneously blew up or hit something and forced the pilots to eject. I'm quite certain this behavior isn't tied to the script itself... probably just errant AI behavior. I designated all 3 airfields as just Nellis AFB- and had the single area named exactly that designated as a zone. I also created a turning point zone (named as in the script) but the aircraft that did make it off the ground didn't appear to go there. Anyone else have recent experiences with 2.0? SNAFU- are you still dabbling with this script? I let my mission run for about an hour yesterday to see what happened and do have the track if you think it'll help?
-
That's how I have it set up. You know- it's got me thinking it's something really stupid... I do recall back in the day that a restart inexplicably helped on some occasions- especially when installing new drivers etc. That may very well be it. I'll check it out-
-
Eh Blooze- thanks for the input. Just so you know I made the most basic mission ever in 1.5x beta... a couple aircraft and some targets- literally just for testing. Very strange behavior... going to take a stab at the alpha but I have a funny feeling it's going to be... uh... no less frustrating based on the concept of what an alpha is.
-
Thanks Xcom... not sure how our hours are going to line up- I'm in the middle of the DCS 2 upgrade at 26kb/s so not sure I'll tackle this today. The whole process is exhausting as you can imagine.
-
Thanks for the input guys... The problem started when I entered the port forwarded UDP / TCP settings on the router... prior to that the multiplayer screen would load with the aircraft positions. Immediately after I changed the settings I could go in, configure the server and launch it but it would go to black screen and not do anything thereafter. The really weird part was connecting via IP and the same thing happening to the client session.
-
Okay... so- was running on minimums before to run the server without 3D rendering on. Now I need a DX11 compatible graphics card. The 680 I was going to sell is now relegated to that duty. Port 10308 (I think it is) is forwarded in TCP and UDP... try to start that server and I get a black screen. Try to connect to the server via IP and I get a black screen while connected to my own stand alone server within my own home network. I can't even imagine how many people have tried this game out and thrown their hands up, kicking at the sand. I ran a server for years so I know I'll get through it... but this BS is just ridiculous. And yeah- I'm dealing with the 1.5 beta. (Good point 8 ball) I've tried searching, and I've tried a bunch of nonsense. Started with not running a DX11 graphics card that worked fine before with the renderer turned off... Now apparently that's important so you can run a black screen as you run a dedicated server on your own computer with the renderer turned off. I've come back hoping that things were better... that the things that were driving me bananas in mission making and the absolute waste of time of flying for sometimes hours just to see a bunch of vehicles humping each other and driving off bridges was going to get fixed... and apparently those were. Meanwhile I now need an actual graphics card to show a black screen and a dipsie doodle magic wand with a bunch of additional "mods" to get a server to run. This is ****ing annoying- but am I the only one who feels this way? Is it something I'm doing wrong? Don't even get me started about the mission editor... put an aircraft in the wrong order... fill in the details before you place it- oh no! Now the radio frequency is wrong. Gee- that takes me back. Oh- put a jtac down... no further tasking yet you haven't hit anything yet. Fack. All the guys building mods are caught having to start from scratch with every iteration of beta / public... guys who spend hundreds of hours on each mission they create need to go back and figure out what went wrong... I don't know if I'm just shell shocked from the struggle a year ago or if I came back with expectations that are too high. But everything I'm seeing so far is nothing but a reminder to me of what was difficult before. I'm willing to work through it... I can do some of my own work- but like most of you I only have so much time and throwing it out the window so that a game / sim can just circle around all the nonsense that makes it suck is extremely disheartening after this long. I walked away for over a year to catch my breath and let them catch up and what did they fix that makes the game more playable in the multiplayer environment? Is this STILL just some single player paradise? Sorry... /rant.
-
OKay well sorry guys- I'm trying to get caught back up again with the latest lingo and I'm just going to ask: I'm running a standalone server (or at least have the intentions to) and in the past I've been able to run it without the 3drenderer running- so I could get by with minimum specs on a graphics card. Am I understanding properly that even if I don't want to run graphics on the server I still need to have a directx 11 compatible graphics card? Only reason I ask is that I'm getting a crash before the opening screen even finishes (before the clouds)... Is this just a beta nuisance or is this something that will be remedied sooner than later? Or am I totally off?

Okay. So I've tried a couple of things. I tried deleting the saved games folder in hopes that it would rewrite with the options.lua mentioned above. Nothing- still only have the network.vault. I tried importing my 1.2x options into the config folder and that made it worse. The options.lua must be somewhere... did it move? Where is DCS getting its monitor settings from? My NVIDIA control panel is set to fit my monitor... is it getting info from my windows desktop settings and then the NCP is switching it halfway? (nevermind- checked windows settings and they were the same as NCP) This is what I worried about trying to get back into it after so long- I remember all the messing around a person needs to do just to lift it off if ANYTHING is out of stock just a smidge. EDIT: Solved. Okay... so I went and had a little cry and then wiped away the tears and went back at it. I don't recall where I saw it but there was something mentioned in another thread about going into the properties of a shortcut, into "compatibility" and then into "disable display scaling on high DPI settings." I tried to find that last night but must not have been looking close enough. I went back in there today and found it... clicked it and now the game loads fine at the proper resolution that allows for me to see the OK button in settings. That appeared to be the key I was missing. I had it in windowed mode as well- but it looks fine in full screen mode. Hope this helps someone out along the way.
-
I'm working through this issue as well. I have been out of the loop for awhile so getting back into this is frustrating. This is a really, really stupid problem. I have exactly the same issue- I try to go in and change resolutions but can't reach any "apply" button. I've gone through the proposed file structure above but the only .lua there is the network vault one. Sorry it's such a ridiculous question... but really? ugh.

This was highly irritating to me when I originally started hosting the Firehouse server... I had to buy 2 copies of A-10C so that I could run separately from the server- THEN it changed and you could download DCS World for free and run with that. I would later learn about sales etc so the financial aspect isn't really what annoys me. It's that the folks who are putting the hardware to work, and the time to keep a server up are the ones paying double then "something" changes and they've got a license to burn. You can sell the license... or gift it to someone ... there are alternatives of course and it isn't rage inducing- just seems like a mild slap in the face for the people who are hosting. I'm hoping that it works more like a module within the DCS World environment as it does now. If your server is running one of a selection of maps then players need to also have that map. I would be surprised if it would suddenly transition back to the pre-DCSW days where you need two copies of it just to host a stand alone. As for splitting your audience... you're always going to do that- whether it's with your maps, your missions, your abundance of aircraft to fly or the lack thereof. It'll be realism... it'll be flights to and from the target area... available or absence of both. The community divides at every turn... you'll appeal to a niche group of guys and this will change all the time. I think even at its peak we seldom had more than 12-15 guys in the FH- and it ran 24-7. Loyalty and numbers only lasts so long as you're doing what someone wants- when they get bored with that, more often than not they're gone and others will come looking for what you're selling. :)

I'd start looking here- and follow that thread as far as it'll take you. I've never integrated that into my missions so I can't speak to it directly but this is where I would go. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1931456&postcount=4
