  1. Not sure exactly what to search for but "date" didn't come up with anything so I'll run the risk of asking a question that's already been answered... Back in the day I'd set up my missions to run seasonally... I'd go back through every mission and set the general date to the current and then carry on. As the seasons would change for those of us in civil climates (ie: Canada) that actually have a winter- so too would the game environment. As I sit back down and start grinding out some ideas (A River Runs Through It is my really original initial working title- excited yet?) I'm left wondering if anyone has figured out a way to have the mission update the date in real time... But now that I'm thinking about it- I guess that would mean the mission would have to adjust itself when it was initiated. But it adjusts itself when it generates dynamic content... Anyway- you can see where I'm getting myself caught in a loop of ignorance way too tight for me to squeeze out of on my own. Anyone got any input on the subject? Thanks. :book:
  2. Eh grimes- back in the day I recall there was an issue with random not being so... um... random. As a result someone pointed me to a script that was really slick. I can go find it again but do you know if the random function got fixed? Never mind I found it anyway- loved this script. I literally loved it. https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1991162&postcount=451 This way you can run the random for a given flag. Set parameters for how many potential scenarios you have (let's say 3) so your parameters are min 1 max 3. Do a trigger for flag x = 1 this happens. 2= that happens 3 = dat happens.
  3. My qualm with its "lack of development" is that mission scripting and unique content creation is happening in spite of developers instead of because of them. I hope I'm not the only one who wishes that there was a stronger relationship with some of the really strong scripting guys so they could better anticipate and troubleshoot their work... the same work those of us who have ideas but no scripting experience depend on to create missions to keep everyone who has no creative ambition busy. I said this a long time ago and I'll say it again: The ideal world (through my lenses) would allow script creators a certain level of access to patch information so they don't need to go on witch hunts when a patch breaks something. This would help keep them engaged with improving their scripts and supporting those who use them instead of scratching their heads in frustration. Again- opinion only- but these scripting guys are literally the furnace that keeps the platform warm over time. Stoke the fire and it expands the reach of the platform to a broader spectrum in the community. Burn it out and the community becomes a cold, desolate place where only the hardcore hunker down and ride it out. I have been through alpha's / early access before when devs would not invest resources in fixing technical problems in old builds when the upcoming build already fixed it. VERY frustrating... I wish there was some middle ground but know that wishing doesn't create solutions.
  4. Sorry to hear it... I hate stacking groups in the ME... and cloning trigger after trigger but that looks like the only reliable option. Sigh.
  5. Don't know what RDP or CLI is. But whatever is running the game NEEDS a DX11 graphics card capability.
  6. I am under the impression that dynamically spawned aircraft are a bit of an issue now- is this not the case?

    Eno's Firehouse

As mentioned in a couple other threads, I'm really going to try and get the Firehouse back up and running again. I came back about a year ago and was overcome by technical difficulties. I just didn't have the jam left to work through them. This time around, I got the server back up and running again and things seem to be running hot, straight and normal with 1.5 anyway. This thread ended almost 3 years ago and a lot has changed. A lot of new platforms and a lot of new content. Sadly, some of the mission building bugs remain and it's going to take some time to figure out not only what everyone wants but also how to get the pieces to play together as well as not depend on scripting that is vulnerable to ED dev side changes every update. What that latter part translates into is some pretty unremarkable mission content- but for me the experience was really only about 20% about the mission and 80% who I was flying with. The Firehouse community were among some of the finest online enthusiasts I've ever encountered and I'd like to try and get that going again. So if you have a moment to plop down a few ideas about what is "missing" out there in terms of online servers- please do so here. The server won't be up full time just yet- I'm still trying to fine tune a baseline server template that incorporates most modules to allow for natural opponents to fight each other in their own little section of the map. I'm also trying to figure out how reliable the JTAC function is now and have it working properly in a couple of instances. Well enough to know it should work as intended even without scripts. AI ground pathfinding is still a challenge from what I'm reading, and dynamically spawned aircraft are causing crashes so no go on those. I've always been an A-10C sim guy so that's where my design strength is. Any old fashioned A-10C / A guys looking for a place to congregate that isn't too procedure orientated? This might just be the place for you. I'm only running 1.5 so far- I have the new map but I'm not quite up for the challenge of Alpha on the mission making side. Anyway, hoping for some feedback to help me get my feet under me again and back in action.
  8. A little late on the answer here but is it safe to assume you're running a DX 11 compatible graphics card?
  9. Yeah the direct X 11 compatible graphics card was a real hangup for me when I tried getting back in last year. I've updated my post.
  10. It does help to add some messages when there is 20 minutes left- 10 minutes- 5 minutes left etc. Gives people a chance to park themselves or at least they can be prepared for it. Use the same time is more trigger again- "message all."
  11. You know I've seen a lot about it but never used it... I don't use many "mods" per se but do need to do those routine file manipulations for the server. Maybe worth another look. Thanks. EDIT: I just stumbled into one of my old threads and found the method I was forgetting about. "(Edit: In 1.2.4 they no longer recommend using the graphics.cfg / lua- create an autoexec.cfg as mentioned HERE . This will help preserve your graphics settings through updates and repairs.)"
  12. Could look at it the other way... go to the threats instead and have them in a red state but with a weapon hold order? If you gave us some context it might be easier to offer solutions.
  13. I'm sure there is a script for it but just set a time is more trigger to reload the mission you want. Time is in seconds. Run once/ time is more (choose your time) / load mission.
  14. Good to see you're still around Sith. Community is in good hands. I'll undoubtedly be throwing over tables and chairs as I tuck back into mission building- but I promise I'll do it as respectfully and constructively as I can. ;)
  15. Thanks Sabre- don't think that's quite what I was after though. No sarcasm- thank you for taking a crack at it. I do know the saved games folder is there... and I have changed some settings there. So as an example: I want to go and adjust what equipment can be in what country. I go in and do it in one of the original game folders in Eagle Dynamics. I make those changes... Then oops! I screw something up and need to repair DCS. I repair and unfortunately any changes I've made are now gone- unless of course I've backed them up in which case I still need to go grab the backups and replant them where they belong. I'm almost certain at some point there was a way to commit those changes to the saved games folder so that they wouldn't be "repaired." Maybe I'm confusing it with another game?
  16. Bump. Well here's where I am so far: As you can see from the not even borderline necropost- I didn't make it last time. Too frustrated. Sounded like the mission maker still had problem managing dynamically generated content and Ground AI pathfinding was inadequate for anything but the most basic tasks. This time around I actually got the dedicated server up and running... sadly I recently learned that dynamically created aircraft are causing problems which I can confirm through the server crashing frequently with certain dynamic scripts. This is severely limiting when it comes time to trying to create a world that has a little more than nothing going on. Anyone else struggling? Find any simple workarounds to add content? Any scripts that aren't impacted by the limitations to dynamically generated content?
  17. I remember back when you guys folded your tents. The Firehouse lasted awhile after but then I was running into the same problems you were with missions breaking constantly and not having the expertise to fix them without tearing them apart and redoing them. I've been gone about two years... tried coming back in around November of last year but couldn't even get my server to run after trying every trick in the book. I got one flight in and bailed- memories of the frustration were overwhelming. A few friends of mine in town started playing it in single player so that gave me the bug to go back at it again. Always loved the multiplayer aspect but it was so much more fun to run missions together. I'd like to give it an honest try again, knowing full well that any effort I put into making missions is a letter of code from being a waste of time.
  18. Eh guys- sorry about this: Back in the day I'd know where to find this but to be honest I'm not sure what term / words to even search for. Short version is I remember I was able to move modded files (graphics for the server computer for example) and put them in the saved games folder where they wouldn't get changed every time there was an update or a repair. Where can we put those files? How do we link to the saved games DCS folder? Thanks in advance.
  19. Dougal... I'm in the process of getting my old Firehouse Server back online again. If all you're looking for is a place to fly your Spit then I'll put one in my simple training mission that I've built. Not sure if you're looking for elaborate missions or not- there isn't a ton of WW2 content built in yet. I'm more of an A-10C guy but a friend of mine I'm hoping will be joining me regularly has the P51 module. Be kind of a neat formation flight if that's what you're into! I also have a TS3 server which transforms the simulation environment- makes it so much more immersive. Anyway, drop me a PM if you're interested. I'm hoping to keep a simple server up 24/7 like the old days provided it doesn't crash. Unfortunately one thing I've discovered early is that some of the "feel good" scripts aren't playing well with the latest update so my missions quote unquote will be a little on the meh side.
  20. A true grinder. Thanks Grimes. This might explain why my server is crashing with the random air traffic script...
  21. Choose the "No reaction to threat" option... Go into advance waypoint edit as you have, into set option and under "reaction to threat" choose "no reaction."
  22. Eh SNAFU- just dropped in to see how this was going. Been on a variety of long hiatuses... I see you've been active in here within the month so that's great news! Your script is a staple for my missions so I'm glad to see you still touch them up occasionally.
  23. I've often wondered about where this ended up. Unfortunate... very unfortunate.
  24. For this one in particular what I have been doing is just clicking "uncontrolled." That way they just sit there. Nice thing is you can change their skins and weapons as well to add a little variety.
  25. I see it's taken a couple of days for guys to answer this one so I'll weigh in here. It's really going to depend on the server... many of the serious ones have threads in this section so if you see them in the server list and take a quick look in here you'll be able to see right off the bat how seriously things are taken. I've seen everything from rigid following of protocols from resident experts and I've seen guys respecting the flight ethics you described above and just playing it to the extent of their experience. Trying to be courteous... trying to be mindful of an active runway... getting to the target and calling out shots etc... There has been a module out for a little over a year that allows for an ATC but to be quite honest I haven't ever used it and never experienced it. No idea where that's at now. Squadrons have their individual processes- again some have commitment requirements and high expectations while others are literally just a bunch of dudes who like to fly together. TS3 isn't mandatory but needless to say it is very highly recommended. Each squadron would have its own channel- password protected or not... it really depends. So don't think that the DCS culture is restricted to one style of play... but it will take some time before you feel out the group of guys you want to hang out with- who also want to hang out with you. As for mission descriptions / briefings... you join up... generally select a position and then the briefing screen comes up with as much detail as the designer has put into it. I did a pretty lengthy write up quite some time ago that I suspect still applies. I'll see if I can find it... (Found it: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2006687&postcount=3 ) Good luck out there.
