This is a very intriguing idea and I think it would be attractive if it became available. Suppose someone created such a mission and made it available for anyone to download from this forum. It would be an easy matter for anyone to host it for 2 to 3 hours on an open server with a free Teamspeak channel. If there were say 5 individuals set up to host it at different times it could very easily be available often enough to give the majority of interested people ample chances to join. I think a 20 man cap would be more reasonable though.

Yes, but there is no need to have duplicate mappings for the X52 and eliminating the DCS mappings eliminates the potential for mapping conflicts between DCS options and the Saitek profile you have activated.
-
If you are creating a profile using the Saitek software and want to rely on it entirely (recommended) then there is no need to use the DCS options section for mapping or loading profiles at all. In fact I completely delete the X52 category with the exception of axis controls to eliminate possible mapping conflicts with DCS presets. There should be a Saitek icon in your task bar that you can right click to activate the Saitek profile you have created by name and that should be all that is necessary. On a side note, any time you edit your Saitek profile be sure to clear profile and reactivate it again so the changes will be acknowledged. If you do not have a Saitek icon in your task bar click START/ALL PROGRAMS/SMART TECHNOLOGY/and right click on profiler to pin it to the task bar for future use.

I have heard samples of all that I have seen available on the web and IMO they all sound like what they are....computer generated. For me they would reduce immersion rather than enhance it.

Another option to consider would be to get on Teamspeak with a mic and headset and arrange a meeting with someone experienced with troubleshooting DCS issues. Often times a verbal walk through some of the basic issues is sufficient. We have all felt your pain in one way or another considering the many variables involved with hardware and software compatibility.

THIS mission was broken by an update but still can be used as an example for how the follow me vehicle has been used. The vehicle is named "follow"

Try renaming your saved games DCS folder to DCS1, start a mission and see what happens. -
Be sure that the Track IR camera is between 12 and 18 inches from the hatclip or proclip. Any distance greater than 18 inches will increase sensitivity to head movement a great deal. Also, you can try reducing the speed slider in the Track IR software.

IMO the open servers' primary interest has been attracting as many clients as possible by adopting a video game approach inviting all modules to join a virtual slug fest. "The more the merrier" The reason you see so many locked servers is that people like you have realized that forming small groups of like minded folks or joining a squad is the only way to experience a greater degree of realism.
-
If you are using slmod you may want to try uninstalling and reinstalling that to see what happens.
-
I see you have already tried deleting the network config file but considering that this problem only occurs with you and your friends this suggests to me that there is something that your group has encountered that remains a residual issue within the saved games folder. As an experiment try renaming the saved games DCS folder to DCS1. Fly a mission and DCS will create a new DCS folder. This will at least rule out any problems that may exist within the Saved games folder with no harm done if it doesn't help.

Click HERE for just one example of how one of the most talented and enthusiastic mission designers has left the community over this issue. How many others have left for the same reason? There haven't been many that have been willing to take the time to learn the ME and create high quality MP missions for the community and each one that has resigned out of frustration has left a huge hole that has not been filled. As a result we now have missions that are over 3 years old, many of which no longer function properly. IMO this has done more damage to the community than anything else and has contributed to a continuous drop in the number of veteran simmers still active with DCS. Although I am excited about EDGE and new maps coming soon, I fear that unless the issues with the ME have been solved as well, the positive impact of new product will be greatly diminished.

but its a question of how large the market really is. One of the unfortunate consequences of introducing numerous modules is that it has fragmented the community creating segments for each module making the market smaller for each. Like cutting a pie into smaller and smaller pieces. Therein lies the need for a user friendly mission editor that could be used to create missions for any module or combination.

I have seen some talented mission designers claim that it takes as long as 40+ hours to create a high quality multiplayer mission. At the current US minimum wage rate that would pay about $290 US dollars. Even if a customer was willing to pay the price it would hardly be worth the effort for the mission designer. What I think would be a more viable solution is if a third party developer was able to create a user friendly mission editor enabling dummies like me to create the same high quality missions easily, and sell it for under $50.00. I would gladly pay for that and IMO it would be an easy sale for the majority of the community.

We can all remember that not long ago it required extensive knowledge of html language to build a website. Now there are numerous software programs that allow anyone to build a professional website in just minutes. Imagine if the ME could evolve to a similar level allowing anyone to build missions and/or campaigns by selecting preset components of mission scenarios from a list. Some based on actual historical conflicts and others based on the hypothetical. Grimes, you would be just the type that could probably pull it off.

Go to saved games/dcs/config and delete the view folder.

I thought it was my imagination but I have noticed the same thing with the A-10C.

I see your point. It would be like trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

I was just curious to know if any of you talented mission designers have already had ideas regarding the use of the upcoming Nevada map for the purpose of creating MP missions depicting other desert hotspots like may be found in the mideast?

New X-55 Rhino - Not in System Tray
Blooze replied to SnowTiger's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
IMO the best way to eliminate potential mapping conflicts between DCS Options and the Saitek profile is to rely on one or the other, at least for starters. I think you would be wise to program your PTT hotkey as well as your Track IR hotkeys in your Saitek profile. You can do it with the DCS options but why complicate things at this point? -

It sounds like you may be running DCS in windowed mode. IF so, try running it in full screen mode and see what happens. -

Often times issues are rooted in the Saved games DCS folder. Try this. Go to saved games and re-name the DCS folder to DCS1. Then fly any mission to see if any problems have been resolved. If not, simply delete the newly created DCS folder and re-name the original back to just DCS with no harm done, but at least you can rule that out as a possible source for your troubles. Another thing that helped me eliminate the potential for mapping conflicts with the X52 pro was to completely eliminate the category for the controller in the DCS control options page. If you are relying on the Saitek profile then that shouldn't be a problem.
