  1. I do even have played 1.5 plenty. If you re-read my posts you might gather what I was requesting. It's not a mission specific setting from what I understand. My question pertained to mission building and enforcement. Can you enlighten me on this matter? And Gavagai, I expected more from you. How was flying on my server today?
  2. I've never had this problem except maybe with that LOD issue when viewing certain aircraft from below. I agree it was very difficult to spot a single aircraft from range and yes it requires much more work by the pilot, but I am simply voicing my opinion that any mods to spotting should be optional. I don't own a 4k monitor and I've never found the spotting in DCS as upsetting as some. I think the rendering of such things can definitely be improved but I personally believe making it overly simple will result in a far less realistic experience. The term "head on a swivel" was used for a very good reason.
  3. Crumpp, You're not alone. As you know, since we've flown together in the past, there are plenty of people who prefer the challenge of difficult aircraft spotting. It's the one thing I have received the most flak about (no pun intended) since I started DoW. However, a challenging experience is something the majority of us in the squad look for and have logged many many hours enjoying it the way it was. I do think the argument part of "what's real" needs to be separated from "what's best for a PC simulation" After years of hosting the server it's hard for me to recall too many RL pilots complaining about spotting in our non-modded DCS visuals. That being said, I'm all for people being able to adjust settings to allow them to enjoy DCS to its fullest. The only thing I see as crucially important is the ability to control "spotting aids" from the mission itself if we choose to do so. I think most who have done any considerable reading on WWII combat aviation can agree, good spotting skills were incredibly (if not the most) important asset when looking at the successful pilots of the era. Are we hoping to simulate a sky full of top aces from the get-go? Making spotting a single aircraft "easy" would be a big departure from historical accuracy and would remove a huge tactical element to DCS WWII dogfighting. I'm not saying we wouldn't entertain feedback & adjust missions to keep them as enjoyable as possible but I would hate to see good intentions "break" the dynamics of the experience. So for my follow-up question, and please excuse me if it's been answered: Is there a way to lock or set this setting within the ME yet? I couldn't find it.
  4. They are truly works of art. We don't rush "the master" :smilewink:
  5. Thanks, HH. We've been looking forward to EDGE for a very long time and overall I'm very impressed with what I've seen thus far. The performance improvements in MP open up a whole new chapter in our evolution and make the prospect of a true WWII environment even more exciting. Hang in there, we will do our very best to get the server optimized in short order. This may be the key, Thanks for your help.
  6. Yea we are seeing a lot of crashes. Tried re-saving in the ME with no change. Trying different missions to see if that has any effect.
  7. Was definitely a good time. I captured some video & I'll try to post it up soon.
  8. Yes. Both good reads and I think page 2 sums up the approach the US Army Air Forces took...
  9. I have no doubt that this debate will exist long after we are all gone... There really is no easy answer as a lot of it is up to interpretation. Yes, I'm sure there were exceptions to the typical SOP but most things I've read state that by the time the K-14 was introduced individualized "convergence" settings were pretty much obsolete. (at least for the P-51) 1000ft was determined as an optimal middle ground in terms of hitting power and standoff and even then some pilots liked it and some did not. I think a fair trade-off would be to introduce damage incurred by flying through debris. Then those extra close convergence settings would have to occasionally deal with real-world consequences. Most of the legendary 109 pilots learned this lesson the hard way.
  10. I don't think Battle in the Bay has been in the rotation in a long while. Similar mission maybe? Sounds like the canopy damage texture is missing. Only see the issue in that particular mission? Have all the updates for DCS? We don't require any mods aside from suggesting our custom squad skins which should not alter any cockpit textures.
  11. Some technical difficulties yesterday. UNLOCK continues through the day today.
  12. Sunday Unlock in effect. Feel free to come fly with us & you can grab the TS info from the DoW website.
  13. Heads up, guys - The DoW server will be unlocked and open to anyone who would like to join us on Sunday's from this point forward. Regular mission rotation for now but we are working on some new things to freshen it up a bit.
  14. Sorry it took so long. Account activated. Come say Hello and I'm sure we can get you flying on the server.
  15. Thanks for the kind words & great video, old friend :) We should really organize some intersquad event sometime. I bet it would be alot of fun, like old times. Merlin
  16. The only judging that would ever take place is if a pilot abused/exploited the server in the past or if we had a reason to worry about your conduct. I'm am not aware of you doing either and I never heard a bad thing about you when you did fly with us. You are one of the greatest antagonists I've run into and it was always fun. If you change your mind, and find your gf, let us know
  17. Since drifting close to 1.6 sounds like a bad thing... Guys, Let me say something I should have said earlier. The decision to lock the server was not any underhanded scheme to get you to visit a website or forum. Nor was it a recruiting tactic of some sort. It was MY decision alone and involved an interaction that occurred which will not be discussed here. Please just leave it alone. On the bright side, since some of you guys are so damn awesome we felt obligated to amend the original plan. Seriously, I am very proud to have offered a server that was enjoyed by most and I appreciate the kind words.
  18. I think you may be confused. This offering has been done as a courtesy. If registering on a forum is too much to handle for you, or cold starting a P-51D for that matter, then you may want to continue hosting your own server. Please make this the last time you attempt to sabotage what we are trying to do.
  19. Guys, know that we are watching this thread and if you are one of those that still wants to enjoy the server we will make sure you have the opportunity. If you express interest on here you can expect to receive a PM or you can make it even easier and visit the DoW forum directly.
  20. Alamo, There was a time where I was hosting two public servers on my LAN. I never could see both within the LAN either (same scenario) but it never bothered me much so I never really tried to figure out why.
  21. +1 for SLMOD. Banning based on UCID is very useful and effective. If I could get it to record proper gun stats for the P-51 I'd be a very happy camper.
  22. 731 days in a row. Today marks the 2nd full year of service for the DoW WWII Combat Server. We have offered this open server for the community allowing everyone an opportunity to enjoy the multiplayer experience on a level playing field, and exclusively geared toward the DCS prop warbirds. Tremendous amounts of time & effort were devoted to the construction, play-testing, modifications and updates to the many missions hosted through its duration. We had hoped it would bridge the gap and maintain some of the community's excitement while the supporting items for a legitimate second world war environment were constructed and had eventually reached fruition. It has been a good run, which like most endeavors has its ups and downs. Trying to adapt to the wants and needs of the masses while maintaining the core ideals we founded our group on can be challenging at times, but for the most part I believe we offered up a respectable place for anyone to enjoy these aircraft in all of their glory. I would like to give a heartfelt thanks to every single person who assisted in any way, big or small. A full time server does not run itself and is essentially a living breathing thing. I have witnessed so many incredible moments during the past two years, encountered many many fantastic personalities and have made some very solid friendships as a result. Simply searching YouTube and seeing the countless references to the DoW server makes the experience very fulfilling. At this juncture however the offering will be changing a bit. Running the server in its current format has become a bit taxing for a number of reasons and some other disappointing recent events have helped make this decision for me. The DoW WWII Server will be transitioned to a limited-access format and will be mostly used for squadron sponsored events. Once again, I truly appreciate every person that played a role in making the DoW server such a success. If you have enjoyed your time on the server please come by our website and register on the forum and if you are interested in participating in any of our future events we would be happy to have you join us. Cheers. DoW Website
  23. That's artificial intelligence for ya, bud. So rude.
  24. I replied to a post (not yours) saying that I thought the picture of a plane should be in a thread about that particular aircraft. The intent was mostly tongue in cheek as it doesn't really matter much in the grand scheme of things. (I probably should have predicted the knee jerk response beforehand) He then responded in a way that indicated that in fact he did think the aircraft was a Mustang. (Your pictures nor your opinions were in no way part of my comments) Then you feel the need to come after me in an attempt to show me how emotionally tied to the topic you are. Your quote was... "You are missing the point completely." You don't call that confrontational? I never addressed you or your precious postings nor did I agree or disagree with your opinions at that point. One way to ensure I will respect you is to show some respect yourself when you attempt a conversation. As for the topic at hand, I think it would be a great thing for mission designers to have the option of choosing ammo loads but not simply a pilot selectable item. Also M23 was not around operationally in 1944.
  25. Mising ammunition type in the ammuniton belt Was I talking to you ever? Nope. Please don't put words in my mouth. If you don't understand a post, then leave it alone. I am convinced after seeing far too many of your posts that you just enjoy creating drama and whine far too much. To break it down for you one more time. That picture named MustangAmmo is a picture of a P-47. Clear? No one is arguing that the ammo belts are interchangeable. Different units did use different loadouts however your point that just because an aircraft has an M2 mean each pilot could choose which rounds were loaded is pure fantasy.
