Should be the R-2800-59 if it is a factory powerplant for the P-47D-30-RE 2000 hp @ 2700 rpm @ 1500 ft 2000 hp @ 2500 rpm @ 25,000 ft + turbosupercharger *2300 hp with water injection (ADI) mod

White's book is great. I loved reading about Frank Walker and his work with the 2800. With the help of anti-detonation injection he was able to run one in a test cell at 150 in. Hg / 3800 hp. That's one incredibly tough engine. He was also known to conduct test runs of the R-2800 @ 3000 hp for 100 hours! I wonder if a possible compromise to the octane dilemma is the inclusion of ADI as a field mod.

stick forces-please make them optional

I think Crumpp meant... Stick fixed = hands on Stick free = hands off It threw me off at first too. -
And if they did go ahead with the A-26 Invader why not also consider the the B-26 Marauder. Both used the Pratt & Whitney R-2800 which would be included with the upcoming P-47. That eliminates a lot of the work for new engine modeling. Just sayin'

 Spoken by a very capable MP pilot. Yes it can be frustrating if you cannot overcome an enemy but some of the most rewarding kills are the ones against the "superior" birds that everyone proclaims can never be beat. We all want the Thunderbolt to be at it's best but it WILL come with disadvantages. That's the beauty of a true sim. Hopefully we get something we can all enjoy.

I agree with you. From my interpretation of the wording used... seems to suggest the rudder deflection is maintained after trimmed flight is achieved as to specifically measure the effect of the aileron roll. Having the rudder fixed straight as with gust locks would produce sub-par results and pilot assisted varying rudder input during the roll would produce inconsistencies in repeated tests from different pilots. Just my .02 -
Very cool vid. Looks like fun.

Servers updated to 1.2.15. Let us know if you see any problems associated with the revision.
-
Keep this in mind on Friday. Change log for 1.2.15 states... * The net protocol was changed and becomes not compatible with older versions. The 1.2.14 servers will not visible in the 1.2.15. We will attempt to get things on the DoW servers updated promptly.

Good News for the K4, D9, and P51 ...

Hate is a strong word. [emoji1] It's unfortunate that certain things get such violent reactions but I realize and accept that it is part & parcel with offering up something for the entire community to "enjoy." While I agree the AI isn't perfect, it's still a lot more enjoyable than fighting your shadow and some of us enjoy co-op efforts as well were AI can play a valuable part. At this stage in DCS it is rare to find yourself in a dogfight with 10+ aircraft in one furball. I created Killer Bees to simulate scenarios I had read about and I feel it offers much value as gunnery practice and improving SA while the MP participation is still on the light side most times. Flak is another offering to help things along. Created by Sithspawn and others I believe, It was added to our missions in an attempt to help immersion and offer a way to find aircraft for those who were having a tough time with spotting. Yes it can be deadly accurate at times and heavy in spots but it can be avoided most times with some simple preparation and a minute spent reading the briefings. Strafing is yet another fun topic. Efforts to allow it or prevent it in the past have met strong criticism. While we all love realism it can become very frustrating if the airfield defenses are weak. Since we, DoW, have not encountered it to a degree to take any drastic measures yet, it is permitted. Alternate airfields is a good option if any happen to be close. Once again, if there are those that want to join us in offering up their valuable time to create missions, use those mighty typing fingers to create something good for our Mission Monday offering.

It's the much discussed high oil pressure/sluggish start for the P-51D that is causing problems for people. And thanks for the feedback. I figured providing heading info and alt for each of the multiple objectives might be a bit cluttered and figured a quick glance at the theater map would get you any heading info you need. I did include a map of the objectives, recon photos of targets and descriptions of each. (plus a few hidden audio easter eggs if you accomplish some tasks) As far as Air2Air combat, there is the bullseye in a central location near the city of Terek plus text alerts if an enemy flys near it.

Imagine the joy of seeing your little friends arrive to escort... And the sadness of seeing them depart.

Just food for thought, It is widely agreed that more aircraft firing guns = more FPS drop. So the more involved/complex missions or populated sessions run the risk of causing performance issues. Aside from that something about the River Raiders mission causes some people to have extra trouble starting the Mustang. (Temps maybe?) I haven't been in a real hurry to change anything since I fly pretty much every day (red & blue) and never have I been unable to start any of the aircraft. I think most of the regular clients on the server would agree.

DOGS OF WAR - Server thread Update: Service Restored

As of 12:00 UTC 2-12-15: ISP Local Outage Estimated time of resolution ~3 hours.

Maybe this quote comes across overly dramatic after translation... But WTF When is comes to quantity vs. quality I will choose the latter almost every time. I purchased an incredibly detailed aircraft simulator for a reason and want to fly with others that appreciate this distinction. If there are so many MP clients who enjoy game mode then there should be an abundance of those servers out there and nothing to worry about. If not, take the initiative and start one.
-
Agreed and clients are encouraged to ask for assistance whenever needed while flying on the DoW servers. If you can't seem to time it right and find anyone to fly with you can always drop a question on our website/forum as well or better yet ask if someone would care to join up at a specific time to lend a hand. I think one additional hurdle we face is convincing some of the newcomers that the DCS WWII MP crowd are a friendly and welcoming lot and joining TS is not to be feared. Most of us would be happy to field questions all day if it meant gaining some more dedicated pilots. Also, we have the DoW WWII Combat Server #2 running the River Raiders mission. It was created with the intention of providing AI enemies when other human clients are scarce and helping situational awareness. At times you can find yourself facing 5+ enemy aircraft. As a general rule, if you are flying the Mustang, the river is the front line. If you fly near the river you will encounter varying groups of enemy aircraft especially near the city of Terek. The further you fly northwest towards Nalchik the more challenging things will get. This mission runs for about 3 hours then moves to Battle in the Bay, which currently does not include AI. The server alternates between the two missions every 3 hours during the day.
-
Always a good idea. Sorry we didn't get to fly for very long with you last night.
-
Possibly you are seeing a conflict with the Integrity Check on that specific server. If it is one of the more popular ones look for a dedicated thread for it within the Multiplayer section or WWII which may advise on the requirements for that specific server.I EDIT: May also be a ping timeout or latency issue.
-
Both DoW servers are on the East Coast of the US...about 12" from each other. As someone said, the real question is, where are all of the US-based WWII pilots? I think I've been wondering this since the Mustang was released. I've sacrificed a lot of sleep to fly when the majority of people are online.

Will the Skies over Normandy be populated?!
Merlin-27 replied to Celestiale's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
I think THIS is the perfect approach. Bravo, Crumpp. And if you guys have any favorite maps you have made that would benefit flight training I'd be willing to maybe host a training night on one of our servers to help some of these guys out. I also give Panzerd credit for asking such a question within the wolves den. With all that training on these DCS aircraft comes a tremendous amount of pride. We need to convince these new guys that with a moderate amount of time investment you can operate these aircraft as if they were simplified versions. It's just a matter of practice and pays off ten-fold. -
...you can blame it on me d0o0m, I'm constantly guilting you into flying the Stang. [emoji1]

+1 The overall composite picture from these sources is the best we will ever get. Alone they do not represent the complete story. Of course the after action reports tend to be inaccurate at times, (I'm still am amazed by how many wartime Mustang pilots speak of hitting dive speeds of over 550mph) but their testimonies are invaluable to a sim pilot trying to reproduce those intense encounters. The test pilots never pushed their aircraft to those extremes (aside from Bob Hoover and a few select others) but their detailed volumes of information are equally useful.
