Are you familiar with the American Medal of Honor recipient Audie Murphy? I took the final battle scene as an adaptation of his legendary actions in the war. The difference is that he pretty much did it alone. While I despise most "hollywood" renditions, I did really enjoy this movie and gained some serious respect for the men who were tankers in WWII.
  2. I hear ya, the people running this operation all work full-time as well...thus the request for some collaboration. If we receive some quality missions, we will host them. There is a rotation regularly running on server #1 of great missions with a tremendous amount of work put into content, briefings and gameplay. Due to the occasional DCS crash, the timing of each mission throughout the day is a bit tough to predict.
  3. I like the buzz about some additional in-depth missions & campaigns! I don't think you guys are alone and it does work into our plan for the DoW servers. When I built the second server my intention was to eventually have one of each flavor (A quick action type and a campaign style experience) so we could take advantage of both. The 2nd DoW combat server has been running River Raiders and Battle in the Bay almost non-stop for a while and seems to be pretty solid so we can begin to adapt to this format. This is where YOU come in! Yes, you. I posted THIS not long ago and I am still waiting to see some of these many ideas I receive daily, come to life. Those mission you participate in don't make themselves :) Our resident mission-maker, d0o0m, toils for days, weeks even months over some of them and has produced an incredible list thus far. I implore you to help us realize these ideas you have and help build on the experience. We ALL love to fly, that's why we are here, but it has taken blood sweat & tears (Don't deny it, we have all cried at some point using the ME) to help transition ourselves to the WWII time frame within the existing DCS World. So... Mission Monday! Show us your skills.
  4. Snow, no problem at all and of course we can count it for Feb. Your contributions have gone above and beyond & appreciated by all. How's your MP situation? Any progress? Anything we can help with? HG, As a squad, DoW does recognize that aircraft visibility within DCS is not yet what most would call "ideal" and many many discussions have taken place in regards to this followed by possible ways to treat the situation on the DoW WWII combat servers. After many iterations of our efforts to find a suitably agreeable environment for most guests, we ultimately settled on the more challenging or hands-off approach to this. As you will see, within many threads it is not always the popular view but it is in fact one that has been heavily evaluated. Many things have been factored into this decision including the following: - Minimal work or modding by clients to ensure they can join the server. - A level playing field for every client. - As close to an identical environment for every participant as possible. - Stability concerns. - Exploitation concerns. - The plain fact that easier isn't always better. - Expectations that 2.0 will portray a more accurate spotting experience. - Inherent complications when updating or creating new missions. - The pursuit of a realistic environment not entirely focused on 1v1 dueling. - Daily experience derived by DoW members who fly on the server and do not feel the absolute need for major visibility mods. These items, along with others, brought us to our current setup. It is, as are most things in DCS, subject to change but at this current point in time it seems to work for those who call it home. We welcome everyone to fly on the DoW servers and we hope that in the long run, you take two things away from sessions there... Experience and knowledge that will help you in future flights & Highly enjoyable sorties with friends, new and old, that will burn strong in your memory for a long time to come. - [DoW] Chief Owner/Operator of [Dogs of War] WWII Combat Servers #1 & #2 EDIT: I forgot to post a disclaimer which would read... These are the views and approach currently adopted by DoW. This was not to pass judgements on any methods taken by other individuals, squads or servers. It is nearly impossible to cater to all tastes and preferences so we are fortunate to have choices within the growing DCS:WWII community.
  5. As much as I enjoy flying them all, this has never caused me to fly red.
  6. I think weather plays a part...which is why you may see different results in different missions.
  7. I'm a little late to this... But yes, ct, this is a bit of a nuisance for the moment but can be overcome. Many use the oil dilute or ground power to help the start. If you have your mixture positions mapped to something easy to switch you can "feel" it out and get the engine to catch by moving amongst the three positions like WildBill stated. That is my preferred way and it works 99% of the time.
  8. Yes. Like Sith said, I simply meant someone who has put some time into learning the strengths of the aircraft, practicing them and not deviating. I was not trying to insult you in any way, just pointing out that such things were said about the D9 and K4...yet on a daily basis they get shot down in droves. It takes a good amount of discipline for a person to resist a turn fight online, most want to latch on to their quarry like a dog chasing a car. This will kill many 262 pilots. It remains to be seen what the typical survival rate is for the 262 in DCS. I also fly them all and look forward to this legendary bird when it arrives.
  9. You mean if the 262 pilots stick to high speed B&Z tactics, unlike what typically happens when people fight online. Factor in the management of multiple troublesome jet engines and the fact that spotting and tracking targets is always more difficult at higher speeds. If true to life, I think the 262 will be deadly when used by a veteran DCS pilot... Others will be fiery Mustang bait with a smoke trail. [emoji1]
  10. Interesting topic for sure... I'm thinking the people running the servers would love to know these answers as well. :) There are several of us trying our best to keep that flame burning. After hosting the DoW server for about 1 year and 7 months now I am still not very good at predicting the ideal times to find people flying the WWII birds and when the ebb and tide of participation occur. You definitely see more interest after each module is released but nothing incredibly consistent. As was said, there are many who are holding out for a proper WWII environment as well as a more refined MP experience but I do still see a good number of people on the server... just scattered wildly throughout the day. One interesting thing I've noticed that holds true most times is that numbers attract numbers. If you find yourself on a server with 5 or more others...additional players are bound to join. So if you can, invite friends when you plan to fly to help attract some interest.
  11. I agree with you that a more realistic radio simulation would be cool. I have been meaning to try ARIES as Dooom pointed out but just haven't got there yet. I'm also in the process of building a usb peripheral to mimic the scr522 with it's 5 buttons in hopes of a more immersive comms experience down the road. Until then, we just make due with what we have.
  12. Plenty of immersion within TS from my experience. To refuse to use such a thing is like throwing away a warthog and using your keyboard to fly because it's not an actual WWII flight stick with two buttons. And as an FYI we do have separate channels on our TS server so that there are options to avoid excessive chatter if that is detracting from your experience.
  13. I think Dooom is referring to NTTR, Hormuz and eventually Normandy. Why do you view TS as a cheat? Too effective?
  14. Good read, Mugen. Thanks for sharing it.
  15. SnowTiger, You generous rascal! Thanks again. We need to figure out how to get you running again... Like dOoOm said, maybe we can help sort this out over TS. Elmo, As far as I know you can use sound mods on our servers. I don't use any and I don't recall the install procedure but a quick search on here should get you all the info you need.
  16. I saw that DCS crashed (which happens from time to time) on one but the other was up and populated. Both back up now.
  17. Attention: All Guests of the DoW Combat Server! We will be hosting a special event called Mission Monday every Monday starting <TBA>. There will be a standing invitation to all interested mission creators out there to submit a custom mission designed by them. The missions will then be evaluated by DoW members and one worthy mission will be chosen from all entries received that month as the hosted Monday mission throughout the following month. The rules: - The mission must be created by the person submitting it. If help from others or resources are used beyond the default DCS program data, credit must be cited. (For example: Scripts, Mods, Skins) - Missions that have been hosted on other DCS servers will not be eligible. - Entries must be received by the 15th of the month to be considered for the following month's Mission Monday. - Missions must include flyable client spots for 32 total pilots. (16 per coalition) - Selection of aircraft used in the mission is at the discretion of the creator. (Must be WWII era) - A mechanism to restart the mission with ample warning after 3 hours must be included & working. - File size of the mission must not exceed 3MB. - No profanity or offensive material of any kind shall be included, broadcast or displayed within submitted missions. - The use of F5 view, dynamic map data or aircraft labels is discouraged. (Rules may be changed or amended as DoW leadership deems necessary) To Submit: Visit the DoW forums and look for the Mission Monday thread within the /Welcome to Dow/Announcements section. As winning missions are hosted on DoW WWII Combat Server #2 we will be requesting feedback from participants and will potentially incorporate the more popular ones into our regular weekly server rotation! Good Luck to All!
  18. SnowTiger, I'm very sorry to hear this. We enjoyed having you on the server and truly appreciate every penny you donated to the cause. I hope you find the strength to find a resolution and get back to decimating the enemy ground forces!
  19. Glad you guys are enjoying the DoW server! Keep those videos coming. Hopefully you won't capture some of my more embarrassing moments... like my failure to deconflict the traffic pattern at Beslan last evening and the fiery result during take-off with the ironically named client, "dead". Sorry man, rookie mistake on my part.
  20. Good to hear, Max. Can you get on both servers now?
  21. Guys, if you are having troubles still please try logging into both DoW servers now and let me know what happens. The only thing I can think of is that your environmental temperatures in SP are different. Although starting the Mustang is more difficult/slower to start now due to some recent change with the sim (possibly a result of the high oil pressure indicated) I can consistently start the P-51D on our servers with no problems. Some people are saying to dilute the oil to make it easier but I would say in the last 100 starts I have burned out maybe 2 starters and I can honestly say those were entirely the fault of the pilot. Do you switch the mixture to run or emergency rich when starting? I always go to rich when on the ground but I'm not sure if that will solve anything.
  22. Because you love flying accurately simulated legendary historical aircraft that are offered at very reasonable prices? That's my initial thought towards the P-40 until someone decides to produce a Zero or similar to battle MP...and then I will probably pay for that experience as well.
  23. I'm sorry to hear this, guys. The strange part is that we have had many clients fly for hours on end with no problem. I don't watch the servers all day, but at times yesterday I saw ~35-38 clients flying between the two DoW servers. I also flew yesterday morning & evening for quite a while on server #2. I will continue to try and figure this out by looking for similar issues here on the threads and talking to the other DoW guys. To be clear: You can see both servers on the master list but when you try to connect you get a connection interrupted message while loading?
  24. This sounds like possibly a ping/latency issue. I don't think an integrity check would allow you to fly and then disconnect you. And unless you were repeatedly team killing or something equally disruptive I doubt anyone kicked you from the server intentionally. When was the last attempt? We do have our occasional DCS crash which will produce the same message.
  25. Are we really starting '15 by arguing over the size of a map on a wishlist? I think the map should be as large as ED has resources to devote to it. We probably don't need the entire Pacific within the first map dedicated to that region but I'm pretty sure our current performance issues with servers are not due to map size. Open expanses of water might allow us to use those handy AN/ARA-8 (Uncle Dog) homing radio antennas you see aft of the Mustang canopy.
