  1. Sorry man, I wasn't trying to single you out... just used your comment as a place to address that specific subject that I've heard a lot of people commenting on so far. Trying to balance the optimal mission elements is a tough job in itself. Our guys have tried to provide a fun sandbox environment for our persistant everyday public missions where even the low attention span types are catered to. Subsequently, having airbases fairly close to each other makes strafing spawn areas a little more annoying. I'd love to have some period AA units to place to possibly draw in some Combined Arms action. (Sith are you listenining? I remember that WIP 88 model you shared with us a while back :)) Would be a nice way to counter this issue while not incorporating too many AI ground units. And like I said earlier, we will never attack people for making requests and it's even better when they supply viable solutions.
  2. Glad to hear you guys are enjoying your time on the server! We are doing our best to accomodate the masses but keep the performance on par as well. Seemingly a daunting task from the start but I think we've hung in there so far. Someday I may need to implement a more "professional" array of hardware. Donations are always welcome
  3. We usually attempt to keep the numbers close to even on the server. Wednesday night when I was on, we had a good number of pilots on both sides and most seemed to be having fun. I find it a bit pointless to get upset about airfield strafing. We do allow it and it's even more rewarding to scramble and shoot those guys down. Suggestions are always welcome as long as you attempt to present them in a semi-civilized manner. We expected there would be an increase in this type of behavior but I have no doubt that when we grow the number of regulars, this will self-regulate. Time will tell.
  4. It can be important when you are flying the enemy plane that is succeptable to wings snapping off quite easily.
  5. I promise.. it can be done. At least I was able to accomplish it a few days ago. I will say it is very difficult to do so... which is a bit disappointing, considering it can be done quite easily in the stang. The Mustang control surfaces will break off without any input while in a dive a bit over 500mph. The DCS Dora does not seem as fragile in my findings. I have not seen this at all. EDIT: And you bring up an interesting point... if that is the case and the pilot cannot combat the forces involved do the 190 controls stop responding in a dive?
  6. I agree with the majority here. I feel the squadrons have an elevated interest in making sure ED prospers. We all want many years of continued development ahead and the guys doing all of this hard work deserve to reap the rewards. Perhaps some other approach might benefit both parties? Group discounts when buying a bulk number of keys? This seems to be a profitable strategy elsewhere. Personally, I feel the cost per module is very reasonable considering the quality of the product and there seem to be plenty of opportunities to take advantage of sales events. EDIT: Flagrum sniped me in a more concise post. Well done sir.
  7. Thanks for recommendation! We only require you to register on our forum for Teamspeak access but we do encourage you to do so. It's a big part of the enjoyment flying MP. While we are on the subject, we are focusing on FW190 familiarization today and then moving to combat missions tomorrow. Look for [Dogs of War] WWII Combat Server
  8. You guys are making it very difficult to get through the work day. Flying with/against her MP has been a dream... only hours away.
  9. Sith, sounds like a splendid plan. I concur, the Dora is a blast to fly & fight with. There is no doubt in my mind that some will love her and some will hate her. Either way, I'm happy to end my run of shooting down Mustangs while flying a Mustang.
  10. Man, It's hardly ever good to see your forum name as the title of a thread. Gav, I always prefer an honest opinion over overly complementary statements. It allows us to become better and collect a good sampling of people's experiences. I also respect you as a fellow DCS pilot, as we've flown together off and on for quite a long time. The DoW missions are now a group effort with a few of our guys doing a majority of the time consuming work it takes to make a versatile all-inclusive mission. We have been trying to make a solid rotation of sorties that each have a different personality but all offer at least something for everyone. Our decision as a squad to eliminate all visual aids and go full-real has presented some obvious challenges BUT looking back now... I have gained so much from removing these crutches as I suspect many others have. Yes it may no longer be "easy" to find the enemy but it is something we chose over catering to a typical duel-type setting with air respawns setting people up for instant action style encounters. Our mission will require the pilot to do some work with the intention, that if nothing else, it will refine everyone's skills as a pilot while also encouraging teamwork. Also, keep in mind this is an on-going process. We are trying to adapt as we go, as we always have, and we will keep trying to improve the experience. Hopefully, with the introduction of EDGE somewhere out there the visibility issues can be helped. Other than that, I have really enjoyed the new missions myself but admittedly have not been flying as much as I'd like to lately. Keep fighting the good fight, man. I'm also hopeful that the 190 will bring in the masses, keep plenty of people flying on the server and make spotting enemy A/C painfully easy. :) Cheers.
  11. I saw the same error about 5 mins ago.. working now though.
  12. That would be awesome...
  13. Dude, what a great idea. We need to steal that and adapt it... "Hello is Dora there?" "Sorry, No Dora lives here. Please Stop calling." "WELLLLLLL SHE COULD BE THERE!!! FOR A LIMITED TIME YOU CAN HAVE THE AMAZING FW190-D9 FOR JUST 19.99!!!!!!! ACT NOWWWWWWW!" I don't know if my wife would laugh or stab me in the face.
  14. Excellent post. It may be a bit difficult to find, but if you really want to get some history on the R-2800 read THIS book. I can't recommend it enough if you enjoy this type of stuff. Such a great engine for it's time. And I agree, after it is modelled & refined properly, those other great birds become much easier to bring to life down the road.
  15. I'm thankful I'm getting the whole group with my pledge. I'd hate to have to make that decision... I already have too many grey hairs. IMO, you have amazing willpower if you can resist any of these WWII legends when they arrive.
  16. I'm not blaming you, Sith. Your nose has been bloodied far too much already. (I hope you at least get an extra t-shirt for all of your effort) :D Some of us feel like this is a pivotal moment and most of use have a stake in it in some way and that dream seems to be crumbling a bit. I understand what you are saying about ED "not being able to offer certain things" but we all know compromises can be made to keep high fidelity flight sims alive and well. I am happy that ED did not let this die... but quite honestly, I already expected them to do the right thing in an attempt to retain their existing customers. Our genre is a fairly exclusive one and I'd hope everything that can be done to encourage people to join up will be done.
  17. It depends, are you directly benefiting financially from the product being offered now by ED which was partially funded by the crowdfunding effort? No matter how insignificant, the backers contributed to the project and were encouraged by the fact that EDs name was plastered over the entire endeavor. I personally wouldn't have even considered backing if ED was not involved. So, it's a bit disappointing to see people describe this situation as simple and straightforward. My biggest shock was hearing that the Normandy map was not free at this point. This changes the whole dynamic in my eyes. I am already slated to receive every aircraft and the map, so this is not a gripe about rewards. How will DCS attract newcomers to the WWII theater and aircraft with no way to try it out? (Please don't point out that they can fly a warbird in the Caucasus) It's just not the same, and has stopped plenty of people already from joining the ranks. It's definitely going to be harder to bring people in, and I'm afraid the skies will be far quieter now.
  18. Right now it's up to the discretion of the DoW pilots on the server. Several members have the ability to load/restart missions and you can always request a change if you see any of us flying. Also there are some built-in time limits and restarts on some of the missions. Right now it's a bit random as far as what mission you may encounter when joining but we are working on a standard configuration for daily missions and DoW events. We have discussed having a regular rotation and weekly events so that you would know what to expect at specific days & times and then at that point we can publish a schedule of some sort. We will get there :) Thanks for visiting the server.
  19. Fair enough. Thanks for that clarification. I think we've all read that piece Gav, but I've read plenty of pilot accounts saying it could be a real nightmare on takeoff. Not too many people saying that about the 190. EDIT: Even my R/C 109 is a REAL challenge to keep straight on takeoff. Scale retractable gear be damned!
  20. jcomm, This is something we have been experimenting with. As a squadron we try to lean towards the more realistic options when we can. That being said, as the owner and operator of the server, I try to offer scenarios that are welcoming to new pilots as well. F10 w/fog-of-war was a compromise I decided on after removing labels. As time has gone on most of us have recognized it as an unnecessary & unrealistic crutch for an experienced DCS pilot. However, since I intend on keeping it a public server I want to maintain what we have offered for the past year and keep it a fun place for people of all experience levels. The current aircraft visibility in DCS can definitely present challenges. The lack of reflections and contrast in some situations undoubtedly make it more difficult. This is why we have constantly adjusted in an attempt to find the perfect gameplay balance.
  21. This is hard to believe... unless the 190s were flown more often. Just knowing the landing gear configuration on the 109 and the fact that the 190s radial engine should be a little more durable makes it seem improbable. More green pilots assigned to the 190 maybe?
  22. Hunting trains in a P-47 is one of my favorite things to imagine in DCS:WWII.
  23. Hopefully we will be presented with EDs plan going forward in the July update. I agree with your listed possibilities, Mac. However, I think there has to be a happy medium where backers can feel they have contributed to the success of the sim without being refunded their money. On second thought, a refund would grant me the ability to buy 62.5 P-51Ds during the summer sale! My very own airforce. As long as it get addressed... then things have improved.
  24. This is a good question. Hopefully Wags will address this and let us know well before August 5th.
