MB/CPU/RAM upgrade: What to expect in VR performance?
wormeaten replied to Sr.'s topic in Virtual Reality
Yes, wait with this till January. AMD is releasing Ryzen 5000 series. This will affect even on 3000 series price to drop more. Also if you will not doing any professional work or streaming and Video editing on a professional level buying 3900X or 10900K is pointless, a waste of money. it is better to go with 3600XT or maybe 3800XT once prices drop. 3800XT just if you doing something else but playing games and DCS in VR. The best option will be 5600X, a little more expencive but the best performance in games. Again 5800X just in case you doing other serious workloads on PRO level and you need more core power. Check on this video performance of 3080 vith Ryzen 5 3600. There is no bottleneck on 4K gaming like on lower resolutions. So for DCS in VR 3600 is good. Also MBO I suggest you ASUS ROG Strix B450 F Gaming. Similar prices and performances as MSI Tomahawk but got some better options for Gamers such better Network or on board Audio is significantly better. Also If you think you need B550 for Ryzen 5000 series not exactly. It is more dependent on you. There is no real benefit from it and B450 will get Bios upgread for 5000 support in January. If you decide for B550 who is about 40$ more than Aorus B550 PRO or ROG Strix B550 F is bestbuy options for gamers. -
Oculus Quest 2 : Virtual Desktop and Stuttering and low fps
wormeaten replied to Roger01's topic in Virtual Reality
Good, now you have find sweet spot between level of details and FPS. -
Overcloacking from 4.8 to 5 is pointless. Benefit is minimum and practically not noticable in real DCS performance true regular game play. Only if you will constantly watching your FPS meter. This performances is also even more not noticeable in 4K/VR usage because there is no bottleneck for your CPU in such usage. Only maybe on 1080p graphic with low details. You should only invest in new GPU, 3080 or maybe even 6800XT who will be significantly lower price but similar performances. Unfortunately in DCS this is not garantied satisfaction in VR with new GPU because only real bottleneck in VR is DCS engine not a hardware. My advice is to wait little bit longer for release of AMD GPU and when we will finally get more GPUs on market to get more reliable benchmarks especially for DCS. Right now new GPUs are more enigma then solutions.

Oculus Quest 2 : Virtual Desktop and Stuttering and low fps
wormeaten replied to Roger01's topic in Virtual Reality
You should connect to your WiFi router true your 5G connection not 2.4. Check this true your router and be sure you rename your 5G network and reconect Quest to it. I was having similar problems with connecting Oculus Go true WiFi when it is not connected true 5GHz. -
Yes wait until christmas. Then will be probably best budget option for VR R5-3600XT which easily OC to 4.6. Some ROG Strix B450 MBO is some bestbuy options for gaming with good VRM for OC. With new 5600X on market 3600XT will drop the price. You can save more than 200$ that way and then invest it in better GPU. 6700XT will be cheepest option with more VRAM and lower price than 3070 and all this budget solution will be better than i9 9900 OC 5.0Ghz with 2080Ti. Such rig after all with 1TB NvMe SSD and 32Gb DDR4 on 3200Mhz and 6700XT will cost you les than 1000$ complete rig with PSU cooler and casse. This will be killer machine even for Reverb G2. Personally I'm in same situation. I preordered G2 and now planing to upgread that way only I will use my existing 750W PSU casse and H100i AiO. And I will add little more for 6800XT or 6900XT depend on final price.

One month ago 3080 was rumor too and when I announce it people laughing at me and say it is just a rumor.

Last two years we are hearing fairy tales from ED about "working on improving VR performances" and there is no any single result, just an opposite. No visible work or masurable progres at all. Not single one in two years. In same time on any other modul we could see progress of work almost every single week. So what conclusion we should make about it than? VR is advertising when they selling product and its not there properly implemented and it is without any measurable progress now for years. No visible work on that issue at all and it is not they prerogative to do what they want. This is not some freeware so use it or not. This is commercial product on market with its price we as customers pay for. So they have obligation by trade law to fulfill full customers and product support and fix faults. They must do it like it or not. I just want and expect from ED minimum of the respect for the customers to show something on what they work for improving VR performances. For F18 or F16 or any other module they showing up progress soon as they do something. In VR we don't have NOTHING. If they do anything they will show it already in Beta and send it for testing to the community. So only conclusion is they just puling us about VR and I'm just pised about it and sick of it to be expected from me to just bend over again and again in definitive.

Wait for Big Navi. AMD will be finally competitive and that will affect on GPU market. Not necessary you have to buy one but wait for it definitely. You already have dissent hardware so you can wait better moment.

VR in general is very individual experience. Some people are satisfied with DK2 and others are not impressed even on Reverb. I tried everything from GearVR to Oculus GO for example what could be compared with results he can get on PSVR. It is using same kind of software he will use. and remeber it is 1440p not 1080p. I even try some old phones with 720p. It is working but... Simply it is not for some serious playing. Quest2 and PSVR is night and day difference. Complete game changer. With PSVR he could get completely wrong impression. It is possible but to me not worth it. If he start to like it he will go to upgrade it and it is never ending story. I just want him to not repeat mistake I made in the past. Easily he can spend 150 to 200$ for upgrades and with just 100 more he can have 3 times better solution out of the box. That is only thing I want to say.

It is obvious. If problem most of the people have still exist and only in DCS than it is not hardware issue. It is clear as a day. Even people with 10900K and new 3080 didn't manage to fully use hardware. Check the threads with 3080 and VR performances. Disappointment is huge. So only DCS core engine stay as possible reason. Engine can't utilize best and newest hardware. It is simple proces of elimination possible sources. More then 15 years we got multiple cores CPU and DCS still not optimized for using it. Do you need more explanation?
-
Don't worry it will be in two weeks of course. :pilotfly:
-
That will definitely be wrong impression without controllers and just 3DoF. This will look like DCS Mindcraft World VR.
-
You are exactly prove my point. DCS is designed on old outdated engine and by you should stay like this no matter what. In that case they should leave it like it is and who want ir should play it but not constantly talking about upgrades when it is not happened at all. Other point is how they spending resources. Right now it is 0 on fixing major problems and 100% on new modules which will not work properly on old and outdated engine. And what they are doing? Just adding new eye candy to look modern and good but not working properly on old and outdated engine even on the most expensive and best hardware. Thiat is called deception similar as wicked car dealer put fresh paint on old and roten car and trying to sell it as new one in perfect condition.
-
PSVR is complicated and today not worth of bothering with it. Point is you need to pay for additional software plus on PC works only PS3 eye cams and you will need it minimum 3 of it. That way your controllers will work and you can doo some modification on HMD in way with table tennis ball. And all this trouble for just 1080p, resolution of DK2. Not worth it and you can get complewtly wrong impresion for VR on PC. Better option is for same money, work and time invest in such adventure buy your self some used CV1. More better option is to buy Quest2 for 300$ and if you don't like it you will always be able to sell it. If you like it sell it anyway and get your self HP Reverb G2, best buy option. Point with quest2 is to reach additional comfort, battery life and audio you will reach 600$ with all this modifications and upgrade to Quest2 and that is exactly price of G2 which is still better quality HMD in the end.

The advantages of down sampling on HP Reverb
wormeaten replied to speed-of-heat's topic in Virtual Reality
Another interesting video with performances comparison. Have in mind even with half ress G2 have reduced but still better visual quality then competitors plus better performances in FPS which you can transfer in to more eye candy if you want. Point is you can enjoy in your G2 with your old GTX 980, 1070 or RX 5600 until you see how this new gen GPU war will develop in the end and than buy best option for you and your budget with maybe RX 6900XT which will be in pair with 3090 but for 800$. This option just buy you some more time for smartest decision for you using your new G2 all the time on your old GPU. -
The advantages of down sampling on HP Reverb
wormeaten replied to speed-of-heat's topic in Virtual Reality
This is default possibilities for G2. Half resolution is in pair with Rift-S but without SDE. -
BTW guys G2 is USB 3.1 gen1. Have that in mind where you will plugged in your G2. You do not need to have type C on your MBO. HP including in box Type C to A connector. So just be sure your MBO got 3.1 gen1 USB. 3.2 gen2 will work as well but older standards could have issues.
-
Also I don't understand why people insist on Top Hi End CPU like i9 9900K or i9 10900K when i510600K will do the work same good as i9 in DCS?
-
Acording to this picture you send your problem is GPU. It is run on 94%, almost full potential and it is hot, 81C so could be thermal throttling as well on GPU. You are full in red so your level of details is also too much for your GPU but this is more problem of DCS engine than any of your hardware. First of all try to do test with Steam SS on 100%. Don't take this 100% literally. Real 100% is resolution nearest to your HMD native resolution so this could be in SteamVR SS 88% or 120% what ever but read resolution not percentage. Also in game PD should be always 1.0 without any change. Start from there and compare it with previous results. If it is still in red than start to reducing level of details in game graphic settings. If I make it to be playable on 980Ti than you should too. Just need to tweak as need to your hardware. DCS engine is completely screwed and it is major bottleneck here not the hardware. I'm afraid even new ampere will not make much difference as it doing in other games. From some first benchmarks 3080 make difference only on monitor in 2D graphics but not much in VR. ED finally need to fix this mess because this is not hardware issue in DCS at all.
-
For those with lower powerful rigs G2 will have option to run in half resolution. This half resolution is still better experience then Rift-S. Check on this theme video on MRTV channel.
-
Yes you are right guys I don't know nothing about games and games engines and nothing about Computers at all. Who am I to talk about it. I only have 10 years experience in games developing and it is not DCS at all. With such logic we should stay on DX9 because everything was working perfectly with 1.5. Why we was switching to DX11 at all and now they want to go on Vulcan? Point is even if they switching to Diesel engine they are showing how working on something and intentions for progress. And what we see in last two years? Only boom of new modules and zero effort to do something on core engine which is screwed to the bone. So what other conclusion I could make if I don't want to fool my self with "two week's" story? About the Vulcan, X Plane 11 switching to Vulcan made significant progress but with releasing of MSFS 2020 probably come too late. Everyone will switch to MSFS. That is my point ED sleeping and just milking as long as they can. If someone just start the license from MS and create some version of CFS based on MSFS 2020 engine will be instant death of DCS World and will be too late for wake up. All this modules will be easy to adopt to new engine because core engine is the backbone of everything. Car without engine can't move at all.
-
Man I was little bit sarcastic. But the fact is DCS is not optimized at all, and all this new engine crap is just to deceive customers. Fact is DCS don't have real competitor on market. Soon as someone shows up DCS is dead instantly and all this investment in it will be in vane. Sad but true. We need proper switch to Vulcan yesterday not now. It is already too late. We are bombarded with more and more new modules ant that means only one. ED is not care about us and core game engine, they just want to milk more money from us. At least they laving such impression with their prioritizing. I'm hearing about improvements now for years and I don't see any. That means only one, They are not working on it at all. For some disent performances, at least half of the performances got in other games such Il2 BoS for example, you need most expensive hardware just because DCS engine cant use more than 40% of your hardware potential. I think finaly is time to start proper and emidiat work on core engine finally. ED should stop talking and show us some real progress so we could see are they working on it at all.

If you want better performances in VR stop playing DCS and play some other sim. DCS VR is lost case.
