Hey guys, could ya reccomend a campaing for me?
Rhino4 replied to bloomstomb's topic in User Created Missions General
Light weights? Have you tried the oil war campaign? -
Post a track then, I'd be insterested to learn something new...

It would be my dream to hang glide with these clouds. That's what the article is talking about when it speaks of "cloud surfing". Check it out: (horrible music tho)

Just tried it. Got to the drop-off point without incident. On the way back we were ambushed, and I took fire from hills to my left. Managed to draw their fire and then sped after the chinooks which escaped without a hit. I didn't bother to engage, but ordered my wingman to engage ground targets while I continued escorting. Overall, a very immersive flight. I liked the valleys we flew through. I liked the speed. I liked the randomness of not knowing if we would be attacked or not. More radio chatter would be nice. Have the escorted choppers radio in their speed and altitude (would have been handy). Have your wingman radio in to remind you that friendly forces were attacked last week by insurgents in that town just up ahead...You get the idea. I was busy flying escort so I didn't take the time to see, but do the choppers actually drop off troops? I didn't see any appear when they landed...But like I said, I was distracted. Going to fly it again and see what pops up. Thanks for a great mission and give some thought to broadening your usage of comms....

My opinion: It's a combat sim. Leave this type of stuff for FSX addons...

Realistic Reliability? Another possible checkmark?
Rhino4 replied to Buznee's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
*Begin Rant* People romanticize this type of thing all the time, but the reality is that while this is a simulation, it's also a game and there needs to be a balance between super-realism and game-play. Who wants to play a two-hour mission just to have their engines go down when they're five minutes away from the flight line? Sounds cool to have to worry about failures and such, but when you're in the middle of a campaign or online mission and your bird goes down through no fault or your own or the enemy's I doubt you'll sit there staring at the wreckage all starry eyed thinking, "Thank god I get to play this mission over again. I was so hoping this would happen." And that's assuming you get through a good chunk of the mission first. Let's look at what would happen if the failure happened right away: You click fly and sit through a two minute load screen depending on your computer specs and then you're sitting in a dark cockpit ready to bring it to life. You get five minutes into it and then your apu fails before you can bring your second engine online...Well crap, now what? Guess I have to hit esc, jump out of the mission (and take a failure if I'm in campaign mode which means I'll have to go back a whole stage), and then go through the whole process again. Hope it doesn't happen twice in a row, eh? ...I just don't get it. It's like those people who get all starry eyed over the Hind. How you romanticize an underpowered, underweaponed, jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none relic that should have seen its coffin years ago, I'll never understand. I guess maybe people watch too many movies where the Hind is a big-bad-killing machine that only happens to get taken down by the sheerest luck. In reality, fully loaded at altitude it could barely get off the ground without a takeoff roll...It can't even hover fully loaded...What kind of helicopter can't hover while carrying a weapons load? *End Rant* -
DCS: Black Shark Producer Notes Compilation

I'm thinking about getting one of these microphones for my wife. Does it come with the stand and adjustable filter/buffer/round-black-looking-thingy? -
help To extract the frequency of bs in multiplayer!!
Rhino4 replied to spinter's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
"OMG"....If you could change radio channels in BS and switch channels in TS....That would be just amazing. Someone help him figure out what he needs to know! -
Night patrol.....hard to accomplish.
Rhino4 replied to Skkuda's topic in User Created Missions General
Just gave it a whirl. Wish the radio chatter was translated with subtitles so I could understand what they were saying. Overall it was VERY immersive. But the coordinates they gave me were in the middle of the sea? I triple checked and I definitely input the right coordinates. Anyways, I was still able to find the vehicles by writing down the names of the towns that they were between and then finding the correct road on my ABRIS...Can't wait for the a-10c so I can play around with FLIR. CAS in a city with civilian traffic turned on will rock! -
Or reassign one of the view keys that you never use. I use F12. If you click the cockpit a lot instead of using the keyboard, then just pick a switch that you never use the keyboard for and delete the key assignment in the game. Then use that button for trackir.

Would like to have some binoculars. Instead of allowing us to zoom in and out by increments, a button which zooms all the way in and out (toggles on/off) and which would give you the "periscope" view when zoomed in to simulate looking through binos would be nice. Perhaps an adaptation of the NVG view used at night could be made to incorporate zoom without light magnification for use during the day...? Obviously I would like to use it in tandem with the HMS, and not have to choose between the two...
-
As would I. I doubt they'd be able to get the D/R but the D model should be doable as long as the MMS systems are unclass.
-
Should just be the targeting systems (the ball). I work on these helicopters but I'm not in armament so I can't really say.
-
You can do as I said above and then change map motion to true and map scale to auto. Then the map will be oriented north, the ABRIS will automatically zoom to whatever wp you choose, and your heli will fly freely about the screen instead of being stuck at the bottom. But there is no way that I know of to make your icon stay centered in the middle of the screen. Sorry but there is no perfect way to get what you want.

Been waiting for this to be released...Would love to try it. The only thing I don't agree with is the one-hit atgm kill for MBTs. Would be great if you made two versions. One that changes the power of KA-50 weapons as well as making the ground vehicles more realistic, and one that only changes the ground vehicles (although I'm very tempted by the thought of HE 30mm rounds exclusively. I never use API).:)
-
There is an "options" sort of checklist in the abris menu....I don't remember what I did but I've got mine to always orient north no problem...I'll have to check it out and get back to you... EDIT: Go to the menu page in the ABRIS and click "options" then the down arrow once, then "change" twice, then "menu". Your new settings should be saved and you'll notice the map is now oriented north.

Cant wait for the future release of the AH64
Rhino4 replied to BlackFallout's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Ivonq: Your reasoning is flawed. Which mainstream audience? The one that flies helicopter sims, which is quite small, or the one that flies fixed wings, which is quite large? Neither is anyone else. We're not just talking about lockon FC or DCS:BS. We're also talking about IL2, MSFS, and Falcon 4.0 - Any ONE of these groups dwarfs the entire helicopter fanbase. I'd rather fly an F-16, because it is simply cool. Am I included in your "everyone"? While there are plans to make an AH-64A, there will never be a D model. The really old days... ...But only in America. ED needs to think worldwide. Agreed... ...But I believe you have a bit of a bias when it comes to this helicopter. ED is quite a big company, considering they make such niche games. *COUGHyoutooCOUGH* Then why are you pushing for an apache instead of a tiger? It's newer, with a reasonable export to european countries. Its weapon systems are state of the art (relatively speaking). Since more people in European countries play sims that people in America, why don't you ask for a European helicopter? As I said, it appears that you are biased. That's not a bad thing, but you are letting it blind you from what other people are trying to tell you... P.S. We won't get a tiger, at least for a long time. You'll get your apache, at least the A model. And once you do, I suspect you'll get rather tired of getting shot down by the fast movers that will also eventually make their way into the game. Still, I am looking forward to finally having a two-person cockpit to play around with. I am looking forward to the apache. I'm just not blinded by my need for it... EDIT: Beaten to the punch! -
*Drool* Hurry up, ED. I'm getting deployed to Afghanistan in 2010. If I wait much longer I won't get to play it for a whole extra year!
-
Just dl'd it. Can't wait to try it. Mbot's missions are consistently high-standard. EDIT: Done playing it. Like the FAC interplay. Would be better if you had two different voices doing it. Mission was bloody hard, considering nothing shot at me. Almost impossible with scenes on high. So many trees it's hard to keep track of which ones you shot at last. I'd love to see this same scenario involving buildings in a large city, Iraq style.

Random Trigger template: 4 outcomes
Rhino4 replied to jimiC's topic in User Created Missions General
Very happy with this idea. Hadn't thought of that amount of randomization. I'll give it a try. -
@ GG: No one said they had to have a military contract to make a sim. Just that having a military contract for a specific aircraft makes it easier to transfer the work from the military side to the civilian side. That's the only reason the first two modules are mil contract sims. Because they were already done for the militaries that requested them, they didn't have to start from scratch. All they really need is for a plane to become declassified enough that they can get their hands on the proper documentation and then start putting out feelers for people with actual flight time in the birds they're making. It takes longer, but ED can't keep relying on mil contracts for their birds forever. Eventually they will run out of contracts (or the military that requested said contract won't give permission to transfer the work to civilian apps): Correct?

Just change the pvi-800 to edit mode and press "4". Then add/change the coordinate just as you would if there was already a coordinate entered for the waypoint. Simple. Same thing if you had no waypoints at all. Just change to edit mode, click "1", and start inputting data...Kinda common sense innit?
