  1. @ btaft: How are you using the auto hover to land? Auto decent only takes you down to 4 meters. If you try and go any lower it cuts out and cancels your dampener ap functions... @ Bee STing: Here's two tracks using what I described above. I botched the first one but it's still a good example of low speed control so I've included it anyways. The second one is what I was really talking about. Another good training idea is to fly the taxiways around an airport at low speed and altitude. Try and stay dead center of the taxiway and fly at 5kph turning only when the taxiway turns. As you get better, slow it down until you're going 1kph and are nearly hovering everywhere just making tiny corrections with trim. ...About curves and dead zones... It really depends on what type of controller you have. I have a hotas cougar and my dead zone is set to 1 while my curves are set to 15. Dead zones are more of a hardware sensitive type of thing while curves are more just personal preference... front landing.trk front landing 2.trk
  2. The main thing that helped me was practicing on runways. I practiced a lot until I could land on one of the numbers over and over again. The trick is to control speed, heading, and decent rate all at once. Never use auto-hover when trying to land as it will kick off and shut down all of your dampeners at 4 meters above the ground. Instead try flying towards the farp while descending. You'll want to gradually slow your airspeed until you're at 1 meter off the ground, going no more than 1kph. Then just reduce power for a landing roll and immediately apply the brakes. Try not to think of it as coming to a hover before you land, and instead think of it as coming in for a slow rolling landing...I'll post a track of what I'm talking about in a second. I'm horrible at explaining things so you probably won't see what I'm talking about until you see a track of it...
  3. Just destroy the cars before you destroy the house to cut off their escape route...Makes the mission extremely easy...
  4. Ignore the warning. If your computer is decent it should be no problem. The campaigns you are referring to were actually redone and released about two weeks ago with the vista warning removed. Vista users can actually get a framerate boost by setting the affinity of the game to use both cpu cores (instead of one by default). You can do this manually by alt-tabbing out of the game after the mission loads or you can have it done for you automatically by using this: http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=251#cat If you haven't already you'll need to register with the site to download this file but it's definitely worth it. For the updated campaign files, look here: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/index.php?end_pos=2053&scr=products&lang=en Again, you will have to register to download the file (georgian oil war 1.1) but it's definitely worth it. 5. It may just be the training missions. Try the instant action mission. Also try creating flight with the mission editor and see if it still has that problem.
  6. I've got it. If Ronht doesn't mind I could upload it to lockonfiles...
  7. Maybe he thought it would be more realistic, lol!
  8. Please god no. If it's anything like the voices in the arma2 training missions I'll puke my guts out (They are waaaaaaaay to hooah)...I like the original producer's notes. A wealth of information in a relaxed atmosphere that doesn't try to pretend to be the real military. This is a simulation, not "let's pretend we're drill sergeants"...
  9. Now if you want to let us make the perfect "airwolf" missions you'll let us start the mission and take off from the trains.:music_whistling:
  10. Yay! Does this mean that the encyclopedia has been expanded to include information that's actually relevant?
  11. Nah, I'm not much of a computer guy, so I tend to stay away from overclocking anything...
  12. I've got a 550W power supply with an nvidia 8800. The computer is only about 6 months old. As for the digital/analog signal, my monitor automatically detects either signal and displays it so there's no way for me to pick the wrong setting. I am using digital signals though. The thing that bugs me is that it doesn't happen all the time, so even if I buy a cheapie graphic card to try out I won't know for sure if that's what solved the problem unless the problem disappears for a month or so and that's a long time to spend with a crappy vid card and no game-time...
  13. Here's the thing: I know my computer is booting fine because if I plug headsets into the front of my computer instead of relying on the screen's speakers, then when I turn the computer on, I can press the down arrow key and then enter, and I'll hear myself being logged in and my settings being loaded...
  14. Okay, I need a computer guru's advice. My computer seems to be running fine, but sometimes after I turn it off and then turn it back on later, my screen does not come back on. It stays in standby mode and when I turn the screen off and then back on again it says there's no signal. I know the screen works fine because I plugged it into my laptop and had no problem getting a signal. I opened the case for my desktop and everything is still connected, so I don't know what it could be except that my video card is about to expire. Do I need to get in the market for a new one? Thanks in advance for any advice or help you could give me.:helpsmilie: P.S. I'm writing this from my desktop which is now working after 20 times (:joystick:) turning it off and then back on again...I'm afraid to turn it off in case the screen problem happens again (this is the third time this week it has happened). I'm also posting this same thread over at simhq just in case someone there who doesn't read this forum has an idea what is happening to me.
  15. Shameless cry of want: f-16! f-16!

  17. Like I said the first time... Show us how it's done.
  18. I generally save hovering for when I have a known line of battle and can put friendly forces between me and possible enemy positions. Otherwise I'm on the move.
  19. Why not show us how it's done?
  20. Warning - I am a newb at foxy and it's all seeming a bit daunting right now trying to learn to program this thing so any help would be appreciated. Okay, question one: Since black shark uses a lot of right-alt left-ctrl right-shift ect. modifiers, instead of counting both shifts/ctrl/alt as the same button, how do I get foxy to use these modifiers with button presses... That sounded kind of confusing, even for me, so here's the same question simplified: Will the command "buttonx = RALT t" work? Or do I have to settle for "buttonx = ALT t" and hope that works instead? Question two: How can I make the ministick into the rudder axis? I am without pedals at the moment and wish to use the ministick on my cougar to control the pedals in-game. I can't find the axis in the in-game controls menu and the game doesn't seem to recognize the ministick at all...Is there any hope?
  21. I don't use that many mods. What I do use is mostly geared towards the in-cockpit experience with only one thing outside the cockpit and that's the airbase mod. All of these mods are extremely professional and are highly recommended by me. 1: russian pilot flora 1998 camouflage 2: dragon's sharkpit version 2.2 3: dragon's ancient airbase texture set version 2.0 4: warmachine fictional skin All of them (I think) can be found at lockonfiles.com)
  22. Instead of all the numbers I suppose I would only be interested in the countries that fly it, the weapons that it carries, and a short narrative about it. All the other stuff is kind of useless in my opinion. But adding that information (especially the short narrative) would be a huge boost for me and could actually make reading the encyclopedia fun as well as educational. I would definitely download a mod for this.
  23. Just out of curiosity...What's the range on an airsoft "sniper rifle"?
  24. As everyone else says, the ai is horrible. Pathfinding is horrible. I'm still going to get this game, but it's definitely going to be an online-only game for me.
  25. @ Btaft regarding zdxu: He is probably being complimentary. When the ka-50 was first put into production it was being sold as a machine that could fly itself, with very a sophisticated autopilot that could allow the pilot to fly nearly hands off from takeoff to engagement to landing. The only single-seat attack helicopter in the world. When I fly, I am generally hands on. I never disengage the four autopilot buttons, even in an emergency, but I almost never use the desired track/desired heading autopilot function (more fun omho). I use baro-altitude hold exclusively and hold down trim and move the collective to change altitudes. I generally only use turn to target with the hms while in a hover. I honestly haven't even tried to use it while moving. Exceptions: I use the desired track autopilot function to head for specific waypoints when I have to a: piss b: get another beer c:make a sandwich. As far as the abris goes, I find it's only usefull in target aquisition/datalink capacities. For actually navigating...What's the point?
