June 2nd... NEW Black Shark Screenshots
brewber19 replied to jj_pt's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
<RANT> You obviously payed close attention to my sig...DOH! All I fly is Su25 and while the purpose of the mission it A2G...I get most satisfaction from downing hogs...and even more when splashing some over-cocky fighter jock...with guns or a vikr:megalol: We all do things in this game that RL pilots would steer well clear of, like Frogs attacking Hogs etc, which is why in my original statement I specifically said ONLINE... Why do any of us fly online? I dont know about anyone else, but part of the reason I fly online is the satisfaction of defeating a human opponent...Should I be happy with playing against AI then, just because I might be flying a helo and its natural enemy is ground units? Anyways, I'll get back to having fun killing anything I see...with any weapon at my disposal...no matter how retarded that might be in RL. </RANT> -
June 2nd... NEW Black Shark Screenshots
brewber19 replied to jj_pt's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Hi All, Im sure this has been covered before but.... What direct human opposition will BS pilots have when online? I'm sure the singleplayer campaigns will be engaging/fun etc, but online....there are no US choppers/pilots to compete with in BS.....BS pilots will be essentially flying solo against ground targets (which will still be fun)...and flying NOE to stay away from fast jets. I don't have (and won't specify) a preference for a human piloted chopper opponent to BS....but I would have guessed that any western/european human-chopper would be useful. e.g. AH-1? AH-64? Lynx? (no laughing at "Lynx", and these are examples of choppers...not preferences or suggestions). Have I missed some info anywhere or is this the state of play? I am still very keen to get BS...am a rotorhead at heart really...but just a thought since people are getting the perception that BS will have other rotor A/C in it, whereas I understood there won't be?! -
Damn, good question, I almost always fly the 25T. IIRC they can track moving targets BUT....thinking about it I might have to do some checking...as they are Fire and Forget. I think they can track/hit moving targets...like ships....but your angle of "run-in" will make a difference - i.e. better to attack from their 6 or 12 oclock, than their 3 or 9 oclock. Dammit, you've gone and made me curious, I'll have to go and find out.

Any good games out soon?
brewber19 replied to warthogmadman987's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I'm most interested in Supreme Commander....finally a "Total Annihilation 2"....can't wait for this...although we might need a super-kray to run it. http://www.supremecommander.com/ -
Dude! I just watched BS promo video!

Great info, thanks to all testers and Shepski for the replies, grateful to see guys still posting even when all around you whine their...er..."bits" off. Hope to continue to be drip-fed info...I'll lap it all up (and continue to fly my beloved T in the meantime :D) -
Konkussion, get a grip, its just a simple discussion/observation about fuel consumption (before the thread got hijacked re: alternative fuels), not a US-bashing thread that you seem to think it is. IIRC one of the forum rules was no tolerance of "Expressions of racism, nationalism, political or religious extremism." You seem overly sensitive, lighten up.

Hi Stealth, ForceFeedback listed most of them, but I'll try to be a bit more flattering...I am, of course, biased (see my sig and our squad:D). Ok, as far as the Advanced Flight Model (AFM) goes, compared to 1.02 both the Su-25 and Su-25T now fly and "feel" as if they have "weight" and "momentum". For example, if in 1.02 you yank and bank in a Frog, the plane turns very promptly and in control (to me it feels like its on rails). Now, in FC (1.12a), if you yank and bank in a 25 or 25T then its very likely the A/C will stall out and flutter to the ground (less so in a 25 but...). Anyways, the AFM makes the Frog fly much more realistically than the other A/C in the game BUT...you do have to fly with alot more consideration of your speed and angle of attack etc - its a real challenge, especially in mountainous terrain. What else? Well, in terms of the 25T you have a fairly useful HUD, TV monitor for locking targets visually (up to 23x zoom), low-light TV pod for night missions and the fantasmagoria which shows on the HUD what SAM systems are painting you...you can then either ram a 25MPU or KH58 missile down its throat OR, slave the TV pod to the Fantasmagoria and whack the target with a Vikr....a vikr is a laser guided anti-armour/ground target weapon with a 10km range. Think Brewber, think, what else? Erm..as FF said, you can carry R73s now as well as R60s, but I prefer to use Vikr against air targets as well...takes a bit of practise but the enemy gets no warning at all. You also have a thing called an IR jammer pod (in the tail)....which means IR missiles fired at you are prematurely detonated so they are less likely to kill you...particularly effective against stingers/Avengers. In a nutshell, it was like a brand-new game for me, as well as the textures and game running far better, smoother and better looking than any previous version of LOMAC....for me at least. Refer to my sig for PC spec but offline I get between 35 and 50FPS, versus 20-50 online. Hope you make the move to FC, IMHO I think you'll love it if you already fly the Frog, as that was the most challenging A/C in 1.02....so I'm sure you'll appreciate FC.....and Black Shark will be out this year as well, which should bring additional improvements, as well as a chopper (Cool, I'm a rotorhead at heart). If you do upgrade, hope to see you on our server, all missions are A2G as well as A2A, and we're also hoping to bring back "Hogs and Frogs" days on Saturdays...so all those girlie fighter jocks will have to amuse themselves elsewhere :D Brewber out!

STARFORCE related problem: my game doesnt work anymore
brewber19 replied to drafz's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
its interesting, and I really dont want to tempt fate here BUT....., I have an X2 4400+ and havent had a single issue with LO except for the predictable stuttering when it tries to load balance across both cores when online (I now use pro-caff to put LO to a single core when multiplayer which fixed that issue...I've also figured out how to record with FRAPS and still get 30FPS :D - much quicker that LO avi renderer). Anyways, am curious as to what specific problems people have with LO and dual-core that they think are related to SF.....just in case I ever run in to problems. -
Hi AirTito, Your comment about engines at idle being unable to move the jet is interesting, my reason for saying is that in current version of LO the vanilla on startup and cut-back to idle will start to move the airframe, albeit very slowly....when fully loaded. Curious isn't it? I guess in RL it doesnt happen but does in sim...odd. The only reason I picked up on it is that usually I start elec power and engines then while I'm waiting 3 mins for HSI to settle I go away and do stuff....one time I did that and cam back 5 mins later to find my A/c had travelled from its revetment in to the opposite one..across the taxiway! LOL. Anyways, I understand what you mean re: start-up and idle....startup rpm peaks at 45 and settles back to idle of 40...or thereabouts. Like everything in this and every other game, we get used to the tools we got and get on with the job in hand.

whats up with all the servers at HL
brewber19 replied to Witchking's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
A nice compromise re: externals would be server-configurable of WHICH external views were active/not.... See, I love to have externals on so I can switch between F2 of my A/C and F3 (fly-by) cos it....er....looks...."cool" (damn, now I look sad). This can't be done atm cos of course F2 cycles through all A/C. I spend most of my time on 504 server....being a 504 BW pilot (;)), and externals are all off except F11 tower view, it took me ages to get used to it but it IS the best decision, it's just too tempting for some ppl to hit F2 or F5 for nearest A/C, or F7 for ground pounders. I think where externals are on the server becomes even more airquake-like than it currently is atm...if you look at our server it may have 24 people on it...and only 4 or 5 peeps on TS in total....so there are may be 19 pilots or so not talking with each other (for those who can type better than me, all power to you) - it basically tells me that ppl arent working together, just lone-wolfing/airquaking when they get any radar lock that comes across their HUD (with the obvious exceptions of some pilots like Dynamo, NotiA10, Pilotasso et al). Anyways, I too would like externals on as I like to look at my A/C and play with views while I ingress to target (I'm a Frog driver not a fighter jock) BUT....views aren't configurable enough serverside to make this practicable. I doubt LOBS will be much different, but damn am I looking forward to a chopper to fly (I'm a closet rotorhead at heart). Have a go on the 504 server when its quiet, and get used to no externals, you'll be surprised how quickly you get used to it all. Btw, we (504) have externals on when training....cos its...er...training...externals are useful for learning, but when we fight, externals are off. -
Hi Pilotasso, Thanks for the review. I myself transitioned from an x52 to CH Fighterstick and Pro Throttle (already had pedals). I agree with almost all points made in your review except for one....the axis transition on the stick. Like you, the first few weeks of using the Fighterstick I thought to myself "OMG, this stick sucks, its so hard to hold a steady diving or climbing turn..." because YES, you're right, the axis mechanism works quite a bit different from Saitek. Dunno how to describe it really, but you kinda get odd resistance when applying force to the other axis (i.e. if you climbing and then apply left or right stick, you get a 'odd' resistance). As I said, it took me weeks (dunno how many flying hours that was...call it 10 hours a week). However, having got used to its idiosynchrasies I now find it much more precise than the x52 stick....I exclusively fly the Frog (mainly T but sometimes the vanilla) and my experiences with CH over Saitek are now I can actually hit stuff on a cannon run...and cannon runs in a Frog have to be much more precise than a Hog (dons flame and Hog-driver retardent suit) In summary, I agree with most of your review (thanks for doing that, reviews always better from a virtual pilot in a game we all play, than from a hack working for XYZ magazine or e-zine), but would encourage those considering CH gear to not be deterred by the CH axis mechanism working slightly different to what they might be used to. Sure, it feels really odd when you first get your hands on it BUT, once you've got used to it you wont go back...I know I won't, my flying is now far more precise. Anyways, thats my two cents to add to yours...see you on the 504th server I'm sure :D

ED Please correct these bugs?
brewber19 replied to aimmaverick's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
AIMMAVERICK: Nice attitude man  , may be stay off the sugar for a while. Ranting at the Devs isn't likely to get a positive response...given the grief they get on these forusm...even if the issues are legitimate. I'm guessing your future career won't include politics or diplomacy then?! :D -
Parasite and Induced drag on Su-25/T
brewber19 replied to capttrob's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Hi all, This has been an interesting topic to follow for me, since I almost exclusively fly the 25T/vanilla, and not being a pilot or an aeronautics engineer the value of my input is mere opinion BUT.... yes, the Frog is very slick on landing when "clean" but stick any weapons on it and it slows down real nice. For me, its a "realistic" difference between dirty and clean re: weapons. I dont fly fighters, but I assume a simple drag factor is present when clean versus dirty, perhaps its just far less pronounced in the SFM because its...er...simple! Like anything, you get used to flying it. In 1.12a (thank god they reduced the drag of the MPS and Fantasmagoria) the T can now fly at 650/660 fully loaded versus 850 when clean....at 'X' altitude...so it makes sense for it to lose speed slowly when running in on finals. My preferred landing profile is shallow, so if I dont bleed enough speed off, I exchange speed for height...most runways are long enough and I 99% hit the rubber marks on runway. Ultimately though, the discussion is academic, since the A/C "are what they are" - before FC I only flew the a-10...now I only fly the Frog....may be with BS all I'll fly is the chopper - we just need to deal with the limitations of our A/C and have fun....or die trying to develop better tactics. Anyways, have fun all ;) -
What constitutes a -good- online pilot?
brewber19 replied to Kenan's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
ROFL....I like it GG....as a Su25/T pilot its a unique challenge on an airquake server...even the 504 server sometimes...but if a fighter can't smack a Frog down they reeeeeaally need to develop their skills :D Its not like we're "defenseless" exactly, but man do I feel like I've got a glow-in-the-dark target painted on my back. Anyways, I aint got a clue what constitutes a "good" online pilot but...the people I enjoy flying with most are: 504 Smudge 504 Triggerhappy 504 Wolf 504 BigTonka 504 Zorlac Star80 NotiA10 (even if he is blue  ) Dynamo Why? Because they're decent fliers, like to team-up and work co-operatively and can have a laugh even when we get smacked down when we're so close to target. Oh yeah, they use Teamspeak, which makes a huge difference. Thats MHO anyhow. -
Check my sig, thats what I use... I've had: 1) A MS FF2 stick (really precise stick, wish I hadnt sold it :() 2) X45....not a fan, especially disliked the rocker 3) X52, nice enough stick, bad centre play though 4) CH Fighterstick + Throttle + pedals, took ages to get used to them, different feel to Saitek etc BUT....very precise and now I can actually hit stuff with the Frogs internal gun....which I could barely manage with any of the other sticks. Conclusion: For me, CH seems to work best for me and, if I had all the cash Rugg seems to have (:D), I'd get a TQS as well ;)

 yeah right m8, of course you can control yourself....:megalol:

Maps for the 169th Dedicated Statistics Server
brewber19 replied to Ice's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Hi Ice, Just a personal preference (obviously) but...any chance bombers can have a shorter run to target? 150km+ to target is too far (and dull) run to target. There is obviously a compromise between realism and "air quake", but something like 80km to target would a reasonable compromise. Just a suggestion ;) -
Do you mean this thread: http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?t=15494&page=1 Good clips btw, especially the flight demo....dunno how useful the maneouvres are (I'm a mud-mover rather than a fighter-jock) but they look impressive and its a gorgeous looking A/C. As you can see from my sig, my preference is the 25T, although the Vanilla is a nice ride also, fast, good payload but higher pilot workload. At least you can yank and bank in a Vanilla, try that in the 'T' and expect to stall out and flutter to the ground like a 20 tonne sycamore seed!

FFeedback: You're like a little ray of sunshine aren't you?! All he was doing was sharing some info and you couldn't constructively say we'd perhaps seen it before? Shame on you! EscCtrl: Thanks for the info, I hadn't seen it before, I dont have as much time as I'd like to search/find info like this, I rely on ppl like you to find the good stuff for me :D (oh, and Patricks Aviation/Google videos). If you find anything Su-25/Su-25T related post it up, you'll have at least one interested reader and most likely the rest of 504 Bomber Wing ;)

Dang STAR, thats a nicely done skin!

I had a look at the screenies for WoE and am a bit confused by the Harrier screeny....its looks like an FRS 1 (which is Royal Navy not US at all), yet has RAF Gr3 cammo paint job and has "marines" and a US flag plastered on the wing. There are a couple of inconsistencies there...IIRC..in that US had the AV-8A and B which had a different shape nose cone (more a snout like the british Gr.3)...that THAT paint job was used by the RAF, not US marines (the odd shade of blue/gray with the green is distintive. US army/marine cammo was/is a lighter gray) or the Royal Navy (FRS1s were a dark grey/blue on top and off-white underneath). Happy to be proved wrong on the above, but if i do recall correctly then should I be concerned about the fidelity of the sim/game? I'll probably buy it anyway though ;) (just like I bought BOB2-WoV which, IMO, was a steaming pile of cack...and now makes a nice coaster.) Ok, Brewber rant over (must drink less coffee)

Lock On is slowly but surely vanishing from the radar
brewber19 replied to a topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Hi Star, Have you tried the VVS504 server on Hyperlobby? All missions have a significant A2G component for us Frog pilots....the VVS504 Bomber Wing exclusively fly the Su25 and 25T....all missions allow you to fly either/both and there are plenty...and I mean PLENTY of targets...unfortunately there are also plenty of fighters looking to kick us in the teeth ;) Anyways, if you haven't, come along and have a go...I am usually on the server on Tue/Thu nights at 2000z and would be happy to fly with you...if you do come along also get on our TS server...as I hate to type and fly ;) See you in the skies hopefully. -
Benchmark Tests for Flaming Cliffs etc
brewber19 replied to strikeout's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
True, but you'd needs 2 tracks, one for Su25T and one for any/all other A/C...since 25T uses higher res skins + AFM stress on CPU.....OR.....a track with all of the above? two seperate tracks would be useful as some (most?) ppl dont fly the Frog, so they could get accurate FPS for their rig/their use...and the other track for ppl (like me :D) who do fly the Frog (I get abput 50-60fps offline and 35-50 online). Just a thought anyways ;)
