OTGame: Rate the person above you's sig
brewber19 replied to VVanks's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Nice sig Fox, 9/10, mainly for it featuring the "best" aircraft in LO :D -
If its the same one I'm thinking of, yeah lmao, that was a great flight and beautiful to have 5 T-frogs volley fire 30 missiles. Shame about the 1 hour ingress though :(
-
:rotflmao: I approve of Zorlac's post...hee hee, nice one m8 ;)
-
Hi Thomas Thanks for the offer - do you need the raw BMP files or is it ok if they're already compressed to DDS/CDDS? Let me know and then I'll pm you the url. If raw bmp, I'll need some time to upload them. I have a slow upload connection and uncompressed they're 36mb! Thanks again for the kind offer.

Thanks for the support, it took about 35 hours or so to create...and yeah, it was a bit of a labour of love....I'm still looking forward to you and Star80s vanilla template ;) Then I can create some nice stuff for that ride as well ;)
-
mmm screenshots and stuff don't look very inspiring..."nice", but not inspiring. If the initial release has the Tuscan training a/c etc....its not really "fighter ops" so much, as "training ops"....though thats a very un-exicting title I agree. Wait and see I guess ;) I'll usually have a go at most sims.

Hi All, I'm interested in putting this skin on lockonfiles/anywhere else for people to use, but don't know the first thing about how to put it in to an "installable pack" that people can easily just install in to their LOMAC and use. Any help would be appreciated here so anyone who likes the skin can make use of it (skin version without my number on the back obviously! ;)) You get the idea, more screenies below: http://www.avkh16.dsl.pipex.com/su25t_skin/ScreenShot_052.jpg http://www.avkh16.dsl.pipex.com/su25t_skin/ScreenShot_055.jpg http://www.avkh16.dsl.pipex.com/su25t_skin/ScreenShot_056.jpg http://www.avkh16.dsl.pipex.com/su25t_skin/ScreenShot_058.jpg http://www.avkh16.dsl.pipex.com/su25t_skin/ScreenShot_059.jpg http://www.avkh16.dsl.pipex.com/su25t_skin/ScreenShot_060.jpg Thanks in advance for the help.

Nice find, but I'm happy with my Touch-Buddy ;)

A2A too hard, PAH! :music_whistling: Real men fly ground attack :pilotfly: where EVERYTHING wants a piece of you :D

I agree, I have a BenQ 6200 as well and its excellent. I run at 1024x768 though, so no free AA for me but as a mud-mover I need to see the "flashing black pixel" that is the Strela taking aim at me ;) I haven't tried the headset but the reviews are so mixed I'm not prepared to try it yet. Only one negative about my projector and thats the lack of contrast when flying night missions....which isn't a suprise but, as a mud mover, can hide some nasty surprises shooting at you! (I really need to get a projector screen, though I don't expect a gr8 improvement re: night missions). Get a projector, you wont be disappointed ;)

I Ask you all with a heavy heart :( help me
brewber19 replied to graywo1fg's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Exactly, which is why I prefer procaff, more "control" over whats running where. I also seemed to get odd stutters still with the AMD fix but that might just be my setup...procaff = no issues for me so I'm sticking with it. -
I Ask you all with a heavy heart :( help me
brewber19 replied to graywo1fg's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Hi Guys, I use Procaff for LO...and still do, even after the AMD release for CPU....I seem to get slight stuttering with the AMD thing...so procaff all the way for me. Check my sig for Specs etc but I have essentially the same specs as greywolf and I get 25-35 online in a 25T. Greywolf: Try both, see how you get on I guess, but the problem is definitely solvable ;) See you in the skies, hopefully on the [DC]/504 Air to Ground server mixing it up with us other Frog drivers :D -
yeah, me too, I just can't see it tho! (until ur right on top of it anyways). re: radar seeing thru hills, dunno, I fly a bomber and you festering fighter jocks seem to find me easily enough :( re: AI....yeah AI has uber FM that bears no relation to realworld physics...this was been the case since 1.0 but I rarely fly against AI A/C...not alot of fun in that. Hmmm, thanks for the info though (Id forgotten about the refuelling bug!). For me, I'll be getting BS because I'm a rotor head and I already only fly the Su25/T...fighters hold no attraction for me since 1.0 really. If it fixes other bugs, great, if not, no big deal for me cos very few busg seems to affect the Su25T...other than the all-seeing radar (but thats just how it feels on the receiving end....I have no idea if its actually the case).
-
Erm....when people mention bugs do they really mean "my missile isn't uber and can't kill a bandit from 500km away"? or "my plane should be able to p0wn everything else in the sky without me having to try" etc Can you give me a quick rundown of the most serious bugs, cos I play FC almost every night for a couple of hours, multiplayer mostly, and don't experience any significant functionality bugs...i get the occasional gfx oddity, but that can be attributed to many things. I'm sure FC isn't perfect, what software is, but the strength of negative feeling re: bugs isn't commensurate with my experience of the game. Thanks in advance and this post isn't intended as a "stop whining" post, I'm just very curious as to the many bugs that I don't get which, as an occasional mission builder for the 504 training/fun flights, I would expect to trip across.

Any naval Su-25 mod out there??
brewber19 replied to Stratos's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
No need for a hook on the 25 (25T anyways), just float her in and stick her down on the next, pop 'shute and break....loadsa room even when the T is winchester. Don't recall trying it in a vanilla 25 though...I suspect it'll be just as straightforward, the biggest consideration is speed/glideslope and you have no cues in the pit...even less cues in the vanilla versus the T, cos the T has a HUD which allows you to keep your eye on the target (deck)...the vanilla you have to look-down to see instruments = look away from the deck...:( Sadly though, and to answer the original post, I don't believe there is a mod for the 25 to land on Kuz...and any 'edit' you did do to A/C would still not give you a tail-hook :( We have a sort of a 'naval wing' in the vvs504 at the moment and I'm a Frog driver (primarily the T)....and I have to lower myself to flying the -33 just to get involved. I so wish the T had a tailhook etc and it was possible to take-off with any weapons! -
Dual Core CPU's? Still a problem w/ LockOn?
brewber19 replied to H4rM's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Hi H4RM, There are no issues running lomac on a dual-core...just use a little application called "ProCaff" (put the file in the LO folder) and designate LO to use EITHER core 1 OR core 2 (not both)...and LO will run fine (Edit: do a google for ProCaff and you'll find the necessary file and config instructions). LO gets stuck when trying to use BOTH cores....cos it stutters as it tries to load-balance across the 2 cpus. Thats how it was for me anyways. re: SLi....you will see a little improvement but not much in LO....you will get more benefit in FPS games though, if you play those as well? See my sig for my rig. -
LOL, few things are as satisfying as a gunzo kill in a Frog....without all that "radar" help to get pipper on target etc...and knowing you snuck right up to them!
-
Ok, its extremely rare for me to post in the this kind of thread but....like the rest of you I guess...I just can't stop myself! #1 Gundelgauk - sensible post and I agree. #2 IMHO no matter how loud the whining....no matter how many (endless) threads etc etc, ppl will buy BS when it comes out...."just in case"...even if they have no interest in the chopper...in the same way ppl bought FC when they had no interest in the Frog...or perhaps they spent £30/$50 on FC for bug-fixes! :helpsmilie: These discussions are fairly pointless because the development path is set, ED know what they're trying to achieve and it takes as long as it takes for them to feel happy with a product they want to release. I'm sure they can't help but know "our" opinions on what are bugs/not strong enough features/functionality etc - so discussions like these are merely for people to vent. Now, I don't see any other sim with the combined fidelity (of gfx, flight model, avionics etc) either currently available or on the horizon (vapor-ware not included). Whilst the product is not perfect (are any?) and things like the ME drive me nuts (as a server mission builder/training mission builder), I WILL support ED via my cash and exercise a little restraint on the forums. Who knows, one day they (ED) might say "screw it, we'll just make sims for the military market, who needs the incessant whining (sorry, valid complaints) of the public when we can do better business with the military".....I'm already amazed that ED can support a sim business when massive publishers can't? Is it sustainable? I welcome any developments to the flight sim genre to drive realism/immersiveness forward...else I wouldn't invest in all the HW I've got....I could just as easily play "aces of the pacific" or whatever the hell its called on the xbox. Ultimately it will be "out when its out" and the vast majority of us will buy, just like we did FC...FC was a massive improvement over 1.02...and may be BS will be as big a leap forward as well...even if the helo isn't your star attraction. Ok, rant over, I'm off to crash my T into a hill some more, or get spanked by a strela (thats how I usually end up in a parachute.....except when Wolverine can't resist his urges!). EDIT: Zaelu....nice post, seems we were writing ours at the same time....and in the same vein! Quite, where else can you fly this variety of A/C at this fidelity? that'll be nowhere then!

Disappointed by the multiplayer experience
brewber19 replied to gundelgauk's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Hi Gundelgauk, The vvs504 squad has both Fighter and Bomber wings. We have many members from across the globe, but many of us are european. We fly almost every night of the week and in addition to HL flights we do between 2 and 4 training or campaign flights per week. You will frequently see our TS busy with 504 members, typically on Tuesday and Thursday evenings as these are our training nights - from 2000zulu to 2200zulu normally. Feel free to join our TS any time and you should spot some of us around. As you can tell from my sig, I'm bomberwing so not alot of help to you...but there's usually plenty of the Fighter wing around. Anyways, feel free to come along, or read our forums at http://www.vvs504.co.uk/forum/index.php Hope to see you on our servers and TS...though I spend most of my HL time on the dedicated A2G server ;) -
Mission Rotator, Statistics For Server?
brewber19 replied to TorwaK's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
subtle :music_whistling: -
most of us A2G in the 504 are jammers off until spiked by a SAM....quick check of the RWR re: bandits...usually go jammer on until we can engage the sam, or hide (terrain mask)..then jammer off. Jammer on = easy kill for a fighter....cos once you've got a Frog (T) in your sights, we don't have the maneouverabilty to yank and bank for missile avoidance....not if we've got stores aboard anyway. Most missions I don't carry jammers at all unless I'm SEAD mission, I prefer the R-60 "bottle-rockets" instead, so I can scare fighters and a-10s with them....they rarely kill anything, but they make a pretty puff of smoke and give the bad guys a scare (and give my position away :(). For a-10s doing SEAD then jamming is a very different story...I'm no expert in the a-10 (i started with it in LO but only fly 25/25T now) but IIRC the range of a maverick is about 6km-10km depending on contrast of target, speed/altitude etc etc....and if you're up against a Tunguska or Tor you'll need the jammer just to get in to launch range. On the plus side, mavs are fire and forget (for any target) so you can keep pressing on target after sam has launched, pickle, split-s and still escape. I love SEAD in the T, and actually like behaviour in 1.12a where it ISNT a kill per 25MPU/KH58....makes it much more interesting. I also commonly use Vikr against Oca and Roland etc...married up to the fantasm pod...cheaper missile, decent enough reach, no wasted weight if no radars left, can just switch to pinging tanks etc. Unless swamped with EAD like Tors etc..good loadout = Vikr, 2xMPU, and 2x58s if need be. Anyways, I'm rambling. Long story short, jammers have their uses for us A2G guys, but employed sparingly...usually tho, something is gonna get us and it makes no difference between a SAM and a bandit...sometimes the area is just too hot and we shouldn't be attacking anyway (fighter sweep anyone). Try messing around on our A2G server and test with jammers....see how it affects SAM performance.

a Huge thanks for online servers
brewber19 replied to Kindred's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
online servers are fun, but the best is squad training nights, especially Bomber Wing training....they're fun, immersive and there's usually something to learn...or refine. Tonight, for instance, we're practising low-vis landings...something for the new 504 BW members to practise before their checkride in the vanilla...which is a 1hour+ ordeal for zero vis take-off, ingress to target, ground attack, return and zero-vis landing. (Having done the checkride, I can be smugly relaxed...hee hee, but I suspect I really will benefit from the practise ;)). Anyways, online is fun, A2G server is really fun, but training nights are what do it for me...flying with m8s while learning....or hot-dogging...around the virtual skies...usually ends in tears cos of an Igla...or an "elevator malfunction" resulting in a lawndart ;) -
How many people here fly the Su25t?
brewber19 replied to Mizzy's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
GG: Thanks for the recommendation...we try our best in the Frogs (our best mission is still the 6-ship attack on the Moscow on 169th server....and me gunzoing two Su-33s...in my FROG T!) Mizzy: Lots of great advice here from some very experienced fliers (GG, Wolverine, Blackwidow, Big Tonka and Star80...although he's a freak and likes the vanilla....pah...I like a HUD!). Anyways, I almost exclusively fly the 25T and use the 25A/K (vanilla) when I want a joyride. In a nutshell, start your AFM flying with an empty aircraft (or really light load) and just practise taking off, flying around for a while, and landing. For landing, OBEY THE ILS...it will get you down in one piece! For combat, like other recommendations, fly a sensible payload (i usually carry 2x Vikr, 2xgunpods, 4x rbk250 and R-60s + the fantasmagoria pod...as you can easily take out Roland ADS with vikr...no need for 25MPUs etc) and just fly smoothly...thats the key, smooooothly. Any harsh movements of the stick and the "flying pig" will let you know you've mistreated her...continue to abuse her and she'll wallow, flip and crash you in the ground. The 504 BW (Bomber Wing) have training on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 2000z...where we practise basic skills in the 25A/K, you're welcome to come along. If flying with most of the 504 BW puts you off a bit, I'd be happy to try some 1-to-1 training on either of those evenings. Anyways, once you've got to grips with the AFM....you're unlikely to fly many of the other A/C...its almost like they're radio controlled (except for the Su-33...which Im rubbish in and always crash cos I get over-enthused!). Hope you take me up on the offer of a flight...PM me via the forums if you're interested. Brewber signing off (soon to be 25T Training Officer in 504). -
I only use 1 mode on my CH stick/throttle....as I only fly the 25/25T (occasionally a fighter but have shifted functions for that 'new fangled' thing called radar). Also, a Touch-Buddy helps ALOT :D
-
Agree 100% with Rugg...I switched from an x52 to the CH Fighterstick (and throttle...already had pedals...which are a bit close together :() and was initially concerned by the feel of the centre "snap" as Rugg puts it....and now (ahem) 12 months or so later, I actually really appreciate it. For me, and obviously this is subjective, my cannon runs in the Frog improved dramatically with this stick...you get just enough positive feedback from the stick when you're putting an additional bit of (either) axis that it stops you from under or over-correcting...I just don't get that fromt the x52, or the x45 I owned before that. I must say though, I rue the day I sold my MS FF2 stick....I sooooo wish I still had that for IL2/AEP/PF. I guess to really appreciate the CH products you need to use them for a while. I saw in another thread an observation that the CH throttle (compared to x52) was a straight slide and that you couldn't make fine throttle adjustments...well, bollox is all I can say to that...as we (504) fly in formation all the time (25Ts, 25s and 27 occasionally). All in all though, joysticks, like so many things in life, are a very personal thing. My advice: (1) If you're on a budget and new to HOTAS...get an x52 for size (2) If you've had an x45 and/or x52 and considering an upgrade, go for CH...yes, they're not cheap (more expensive than stock Cougar) but they are quality (precise and reliable). (3) I've got a stock Cougar sitting on my shelf...I've cleaned the pots etc etc and its still got nothing on my CH Fighterstick. I even considered getting the FFB2 mod for £300 and you know what...screw it, I'd get better value for money from another 7900GT and SLi for my other games....or a bigger touchscreen for Touchbuddy. Ok, essay complete, fingers worn out, peace be with you in the search for better HIDs. PS. If you don't have a TrackIR you MUST get one, its the biggest improvement for immersion you'll ever buy!
