BVR is a bit underwhelming right now. All the radar guided missiles are not tracking properly and losing airspeed too fast, but the 120s are especially bad right now. I have probably half a dozen ACMI files where the 120 will just decide to stop tracking. Most of the time at less than 2NM while I still have a solid lock. I seem to recall one of the testers or moderators saying there is a bug with chaff, but I think it's more than that. Try this video to help understand what notching is. It's there but no player usable aircraft can use it. There was a thread about modifying the .lua files to get it added to the F-15 with some moderate success.

For me it's a bit of anxiety. Getting online with people I don't know is uncomfortable. But most of the time it's because the people that do choose to use it don't want people outside of their group of friends to join them. They'll either move to another channel or a locked one. Or it just seems like nobody is ever there except for the high populated servers and then you'll see what I described above. Although I have had a few good experiences, but overall it hasn't been worth my time to join.

Oh nice! This will be one awesome plane.

I would think that is overkill for DCS. A 3570k or 4670k should serve you well for gaming. The higher end models add almost zero performance for games and are mostly used for CPU intensive tasks such as 3d or video rendering. But if it's in your budget then go for it. The 4960 should be a little more future proof. And 16 GB is plenty for DCS. I do just fine on 8 myself.

I would think that information isn't available for obvious reasons.

F-35 simulator http://kotaku.com/a-hardcore-military-flight-sim-thatll-run-on-a-laptop-1524800569/+lukeplunkett http://www.sbir.gov/sbirsearch/detail/415241 Looks like Lockheed will be providing GameSim with enough information to make it happen?

Missiles are still a WIP. AIMs in general are under performing right now. ED will get it sorted out in time.

Nah that's the right one. I don't see the resemblance with the throttle quadrant but the stick looks like it was modeled after the A-10C or F-16. I would personally save my money and go with the TM Warthog even though it costs quite a bit more. Saitek products are always kind of flaky.

Did you use the mod manager?

Depends on your distance from the target. As I understand it, it was less than 12NM or else the TGP is too far away to pick it up. And not sure if you're putting the JTAC's laser code into the TGP's LSS field. There are a lot of unknowns and a track would be helpful to see what you did.

Wouldn't they say flanking is more where the beam is in that diagram, also where it says flank AWACS would report as hot? And for drag they would report that as cold.

On steam...

Don't mean to derail the thread but how did you get 6 jdams on an A-10? I though it could carry 4 at most.

I don't think anybody is shooting at rmax with an expectation of a high pk. And you didn't really answer my question.

How does poor flying compare to poor missile dynamics?

DCS has it's own video converter too. You can replay the track in the mission editor and set the framerate along with other options. This is how people usually make the nicer videos with a constant frame rate. I wouldn't recommend fraps unless you have a beast of a rig since fraps usually slows it down and it generates very large files. I uploaded a screencap on how to do it.

Frostie I have to disagree with your statement that the AIM-120C had a high pk. last week I was flying at 25,000 feet at I launched 3 AIM-120Cs spaced about 5 seconds apart at a bandit head on aspect at 15NM away. all 3 missed and I got smacked by his R-27ER. he was well into lethal range and even if I lost my lock they should have been tracking on their own at that point. There are a lot others that would say AMRAAMs are currently not performing well. I have been learning to fly the su-27 as well and I have to say the r-27er and et are performing much better than the AIM-120Cs.

This is normal and was added in the patch notes as well. Most planes do smoke, but the Russian ones do tend to smoke a bit more. Honestly, it doesn't really make you more visible except in high contrast situations, like when you're flying against a blue sky or white cloud, and even then they still need to be fairly close to see it. For your second point, I don't know but I haven't seen any complaints about it so far either. Also, FYI this should be in the FC3 sub forum.

Yup. It was user error.

You know what? I wasn't pressing the lock button in the other modes. I assumed it worked like the Eagle's other modes and would auto acquire anything it saw. I knew it had to be something simple that I was missing.
-
I'm trying to learn how to fly a russian bird after being in the eagle for so long, but I can't seem to get any mode other than BVR to lock onto the target and I'm not really sure what I'm doing wrong. I've attached a quick track to show what I mean. I'm at a complete loss here. IRST troubles.trk

I used the hat switch on the front of the throttle with the pinkie switch as a modifier as a slew control when I still used mine.

Doesn't the JTAC need an ELPRS radio or is that only so they can show their positions on the TAD and TGP?

Number two, but only because that voice has more of that epic movie sound to it. -
How so? The A's AFM is the same as the C's like it should be. Same airframe, just different avionics.
