Even if you can afford it, you are a fool to pay a high price for some thing that is over priced. It sends a bad message to the developer and turns away people who have common sense. No one likes getting ripped off. (PS I am not calling P51 a rip off!! More...optimistically priced :) ) And ED would be fools to bury their head in the ground believing that beacuse fans on their forum say they think its a good price, that it is. ( I mean there are people here who bought their sims TWICE!! Not a very good representation of the savvy consumer) I believe they are trying the absolute maximum price they can get away with. Which I guess you can't blame them for. I think €20 more reasonable. To me this is more like DLC. It's just one plane. I equate it to Arma's British Armed Forces DLC, Or the Handley Page 0/400 for Rise Of flight. Both of which are half the price of this addon. If it came with another plane or a terrain, or a even a campaign... maybe then you could charge Expansion pack price for it. Don't Forget all the people who don't post on this forum who will look at the price, ignore it and keep DCS in the realm of the enthusiast instead of the wider market..where all the money is. Personally, given that it looks like addon content is the way things will go now within DCS, I dont relish the prospect of spending €30 on every new single vehicle added to the sim. That could get expensive very quickly

Its not complaining, its giving feed back to ED. Which I'm sure they appreciate, and he has every right to let them know how he feels. They would do themselves no favours ignoring feedback from consumers about price. I can't decide whether to buy it or not, I think if it was 10 cheaper it would be a no-brainer. For just one plane it may be a bit much. I wouldn't like to pay this kind of money for every new DCS module that is just a single vehicle. Of course die hard fans on here will say "I don't care, charge up the wazoo. It helps with development and it's a cheap hobby" etc. But for evey other normal consumer, it might make them hold off for a sale or price drop. /me Ill probably regret saying this, but brand new RoF planes are at maximum, half of the price of DCS P51. *Que statements about how P51 is way more detailed than any RoF plane. - Personally, I don't think any less work goes into their efforts. They put a lot of work into the 3d modelling, textures and handling, weapons, Flight model, damage model etc etc. Of course it makes good business sense to charge as much as you think you can get away with initially I guess :D

Spitfires Buried in Burma To Be Excavated
BTTW-DratsaB replied to wingtip's topic in Military and Aviation
Damn no pics of the excavation yet! I hope some one does documentary on it. -
Thanks, looks pretty good.

That's very nice, thanks! Do you know if you can make it full screen some way?

Interesting find! :) I would love to have seen some pics of them as they dug them out, any photos?

I follow the development of many games and posts like these do so much damage for every other quiet, patient user/fan out there. Statements like these are why we have to wait for months on end with no information because the developers are afraid to even hint at what might be coming our way. A few select people feel the need to throw their toys out of the proverbial pram every time some thing gets delayed or feature gets removed. Popularity and more people coming onto the forum is great but I always hate when the close knit, friendly atmosphere of the forum that allows the devs to candidly share things, eventually disappears :(

Welcome to DCS. Here is part 1 of a 3 part set of videos, with narration, that explain the use of the AGM65. I found these videos to be of most use when I was learning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1IoF2xKBCI&feature=plcp&context=C42fc204VDvjVQa1PpcFO5Wusv2uBSiAUqKcxVxa-q_01RlxsmzNM=

Nvidia 680 GTX Inbound
BTTW-DratsaB replied to Terminal Meltdown's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
You should, its the only way they learn. Tiger knows damn well that more people will pre order with them if they post over optimistic availability information, and that customers will trust them. If people don't pull out of their (now delayed) preorders, it just gives the e-tailers the green light to do it all the time. Card seems nice all right. I will getting one of this 600 series in the next few months. I find you always get the best bang for buck by skipping a generation. Although I am still surprised by some of the benchmarks in the reviews on how quick my trusty GTX295 still is. -
^ yeah, fantastic site thanks very much.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I think that "one day™" they will move into this area. If you look at the banner on top of the DCS homepage there is indeed an Ah64, F18, M1 tank and one of those Aegis Cruisers. Naval warfare would be very nice. Some thing I have never really had a go of before in a sim. Tanks/armor would also be nice. How long away could these things be? I would say many years. We are slowly seeing things that may point to this direction. Eg; the ability to drive a UAZ around the map. And the inclusion of JTAC (was to be playable in the initial idea for DCS A10, but was taken out). The military version of DCS A10 includes playable JTAC that can move about the ground /battle field.

Nice, makes sense. Kind of like what they are doing with the hand held weapons; eg no more crates of 100s of weapons: MK17, MK17 203, MK17 203 RCO. Just 1 base weapon and attachments.

The sounds I have been most impressed by, that BIS have made, would probably be the Helicopter sounds for Operation Arrowhead. They sounded really nice. BIS can be a bit hit and miss with their sounds though. I remember the A10 GAU sounded like a Browning M2  .

Lucky, crashing helicopters are scary things!

Jeez, way to make me sound like an *****. All I did was try to stop a new player (and others who will search this thread later) trying to get some good performance getting confused and going down paths that will yield no improvement. You have to admit this is a very technical place (being a highly detailed Simulator). So I don't think you should be that surprised by some one picking you up on giving incorrect information (Physx, Sli etc) to a new player, even if it does look like your being helpful. (which you are mostly :) ) I don't argue "any point possible". I happened to have been down the same road as the OP with SLI and Physx and performance etc and I was always happy to know that when I asked for advice that I was not being given wrong info. No one will think less of you if you admit to being wrong about some thing, aren't you happy to take on new information that maybe you didn't know before? This is a great place for learning, if your willing to accept correction that is...people who don't are the kind who do cause arguments about everything in my experience. Maybe I came off as too aggressive in the way I corrected you, sorry if that is the case. Anyway, glad your running better now Britt007 and welcome to DCS.

Err, ok just saying. Expect to be corrected if you post something incorrect. The physx stuff is garbage no? No point in filling a new guys head with erroneous info is all. You talked to nvidia directly (other than their bogus tech support)? I have my doubts. But anyway, they actually changed some sli compatibility bit in the profile to stop Corruption on the MFCDs when using SLI and a non "every frame" mode. I never said they increased perf. There was no prob with BS and A10 sharing the same profile (as they still do). Just to do with SLI and the A10 s MFCDs. I know this and I have never spoken to them "directly" or otherwise. One man's "semantics" is another man's Misinformation I guess

Very odd advice. Especially since your an official tester. The half screen SLI thing (or SFR as it used to be called) is no longer really used by anyone and never really did anything useful anyway. Current SLI modes use AFR (Alternate Frame Rendering). This is where each card renders a Frame one after the other. SLI works pretty well (as can be expected for a CPU intensive Flight sim). Also Nvidia recently fixed the BlackShark (read DCSA10) profile so most probs are gone with SLI now. Just leave its setting on Nvidia Recommended. There is absolutely no advantage to mucking about with SLI AA or especially PhysX. Where do you get that from? I have yet to see any flight sim that supports PhysX, never mind DCS. SLI AA is pointless beacuse 4xAA is plenty in DCS and that card (590) wont even notice it is doing it, it is so easy for it. About lower settings taking more CPU than high settings: this might apply to something like the Shadow options where Low setting causes shadows to be drawn by the CPU (costing FPS) , but switching them to High causes them to be rendered on the GPU (gaining FPS).. Cant remember 100% if this is the Case with DCS. As for DCS performance, yes it is pretty abysmal. I too hope Edge can improve in this..I have my doubts though.

Best news I've heard concerning IL in quite a while.

Like white men...Soldiers don't jump! Looking forward to Arma3, screens look great.

Sweet vid. Yeah it says "Tactical loaded T72" at the start of the video, I guess that means it's full of ammo (Combat ready) etc?

Memory advantage 8 GIG vs 16 GIG?
BTTW-DratsaB replied to Fakum's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
What about going from 4gb to 8gb. Anyone got any experience of the kind of performance boost that might give? -
Heh, who knows :D . Thanks for the help

What do you think about P-51D and Flying Legends?
BTTW-DratsaB replied to csper's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
I just want ED to make modern aircrafts/helicopters. This is my vote, but I think it's a bit too negative, sounds a bit spoilt brat-ish even. I would word it like this: I am only interested in purchasing modern sim products. I'm happy for ED to make other aircraft of different ages, anything that can get them more revenue is good. I also understand that this isn't really a new direction just an nice opportunity that has fallen into ED's lap. I hope they have good success with it. I think it may be a bit depressing for ED to see this poll and what has the most votes, probably even frustrating. That's why I wanted to explain why I voted for that choice. I may end up buying P51 as I continue to watch the development and see how it shapes up. But for the moment, I think I'd rather save my money (and mainly free time :)) for flying ED's modern aircraft simulations. -
Why lol? I don't really understand what your getting at here. There are lots of user made terrains? Where can you get them? It was my impression that people had been working on some terrains but nothing had been released yet. And there where some map creator(s) that have decided not to release while they wait for the new terrain engine tools to be released, is that not the case? Also, I'd love to see some of the missions you fly that use the entire map in an A10. Max I have ever used is about half of it and that's rare. I'm happy to do sand box type missions using limited terrain area.
