  1. Similar to Brisse's question I know, but will we be able to swap between these A10 (1.1.1.1 and World) installs without having to activate/deactivate? Thanks for the patch, looking forward to trying World
  2. F-i-v-e billion??? My god, governments are so good at wasting money. That is just mind boggling.
  3. very nice series of pics thanks!
  4. Good documentary but it is old. Damn, I was looking forward to some new A10 doc!
  5. If I am correct, which I am not on many times :D : The SFM is the flight model used in LockOn. The AFM has been used in Flaming Cliffs(SU25 + T) DCS:BS and DCS:A10 For me, the difference between the two is night and day. When I first tried Flaming cliffs and flew the SU25t, I felt the old FM was like Battlefield or something and never really wanted to have go back again. And I don't think I ever will. The Flight Model affects how the plane feels, it's "weight", how it lands, how it turns, how it stalls. Its basically the physics of flight. I think it is pretty disappointing that the 3rd parties will have to use the Standard Flight Model.....but as Wags said, they can make there own. So this to me is glimmer of hope. And I hope most of them go this route.
  6. Thanks for posting this Wags. Mmmm DCS:Abrams or DCS:T80, 6DOF modern tank sim with click-able "Cockpit", I could go for that. :D
  7. I use medium settings and the new ones look kind of comical to be honest. The reason is they don't get drawn very far, so you see these black lines that just suddenly stop, or appear abruptly under your nose. The old ones did the same but it wasn't as noticeable as they where not as dark or thick.
  8. I share some of the Ops concerns/curiosity. And given that ^ post by Wags it does see to be a shift for ED then in the type of product they put out/ associate the DCS brand with. I agree that it is perfectly fine for them to develop and include less detailed aircraft from third parties. You don't have to buy them after all, and it's revenue to make making more cool stuff for us. But... you cant help or blame some of the trepidation of the community toward some of the new aircraft. When DCS first came out (and up to a week ago) I was under the impression that any Aircraft that ED would release or was part of DCS would be of the highest detail and technical level possible. Even to the point that they would not make (or consider making) an aircraft if they did not have full access to all Flight Data and Weapons systems and Avionics information. I kind of liked this ethos and was happy to wait the development time and the fact we would only see Aircraft that where modelled as close to reality as they could be.. I don't know what it was, but something set a large portion of the community to view DCS in this frame of mind, this is why you get threads like this one. Which I think is perfectly reasonable. Maybe it's because all we have had up to know is fully detailed and advanced sim aircraft. but I feel that it was stated some where, or some time ago that the DCS brand was all about Ultra detail and high fidelity simulation of any released aircraft. But again, I know it must be frustrating for ED to read threads like this but they must understand, it is what we have come to expect from DCS. However, I understand (and I'm sure others do too) that there is room in DCS for them to include aircraft of lower fidelity. There is a lot of money to be made from this area. Personally, I really would like if Ed still strived to make the most realistic sims themselves. And kept the DCS brand for that.
  9. Nice upgrade. I'm curious as to how DCS A10 runs for you with your current rig? What kind of performance issues do you have, if any? And what GFX settings do you use? I will definitely be interested to hear what difference the upgrade makes. And how much higher you can up your settings.
  10. This looks very cool ! thanks :D
  11. One of them main differences is character persistence across all servers. No matter what DayZ server you go on, your avatar will be in the same spot you left it, with all the same gear you had.
  12. Agreed, way too brittle. They should make it out of the stuff they make those bendy Glasses from. Then I wouldn't mind paying 30...
  13. I dunno, every time the slightest thing is wrong, we are told to reinstall the full version. I'm even too paranoid to bother with patches any more. If I use one and my FPS or some thing seem not quite right it will niggle at me until I get the full patch version. I have never seen a game that is so sensitive to patching (If we are to believe the Devs and testers). I don't see why it should be like this. Maybe they are just too quick to give this as a fix so we are all ( well me anyway) now in the mindset that patches are risky and not worth the hassle.
  14. Nice info and and vid Paul and Mvsgas, thanks!
  15. Well, its a place where people work and generally, with Fire suppression, they don't wait to clear a place before becoming active. Eg they are automatic (or activated manually ASAP). I was curious as to what would the procedure be if it was a busy hanger floor then suddenly the fire suppression system activates. Is it quick or is there loads of time to get out of there? Also maybe the foam is easy enough to just brush away and get some air. but Maybe its very deep. It's hard to tell from the photo. It looks like it is near enough 6-8ft deep.
  16. Woah! Could you suffocate if you where caught in that?
  17. IL2 is a pretty old game, Isn't our advanced flight model today better because we have more processing power?
  18. I think it might finally be time for me to upgrade the GTX295 war horse :) . I can get another 670 for SLI then in 6 months or so (I do like SLI). I'm not sure how much DCS may benefit though, my CPU will still probably hold me back. But, all that ram on the 670 might help with stuttering?
  19. Oh, I see lol! I still suffer form that bug ( cloud disappear after Alt Tab)
  20. Makes sense, good suggestion.
  21. Been a while since I flew the "T", but would it not be better to turn the Shkval Sensor off before landing? The graphics setting that controls the quality of the Shkval is "Res. of Cockpit Displays" setting. Put this to 256 for best performance and also avoid using an "Every Frame" setting as this uses up a lot of resources.
  22. Another thing that can do this is leaving the "Preview Windows" open when you start a game. The Virtual Head and Camera Tracking view.
  23. Also, notice the missing clouds.
  24. I think the idea of making all options; Key assignments, graphic settings, Sound levels etc accessible In-Game would be really worth while. I think it should be seriously considered now ED is starting out on a new path (DCS:World) and a new engine ( EDGE). Do it properly! Rise of Flight did this recently and for the first time in 3 years I was able to get a proper gauge of what impact each GFX setting had on performance. I would love to be able to do this with DCS. This alone will help a lot of people with GFX problems. Also simple things, like finally being able to properly balance those audio sliders so it sounds how I would like it to. Since Lockon(!) I have just guessed what they should be at and also occasionally copied suggestions of what other people said where good settings. It is just so much more user friendly to have it this way. Especially for new comers.
  25. Wings of Russia Rules You have never watched the Discovery/History/Military channel etc etc and it's 1001 documentaries on how the M1 Abrams is the "best tank in the universe EVER!!1!"? Oh and how the USA won WW2. Cant' forget that one... That Wings of Russia series was like a breath of fresh spring air to me. It's sickening to think that there are such fantastic documentaries on Russian hardware that we never get to see in the west, except now thanks to the internet.
