Luckily my fix was pretty easy, just went into controller settings and changed "JOY_BTN6" from a Switch to a Modifier, all good now! -

Glad you got it working. I still have to have a go. Hope I don't need to reinstall! -

I noticed the same thing after changing to DCS world. I haven't got around to it, but I figured I would just go into the modifiers section and change it from an on off toggle to a "hold down" modifier. But as you say, that seems not to be the case. I'll try it in a little while and report back how get on. -
The thing is, why the heck are a few "nice" looking explosions so hard on a modern pc in 2012? Is it still beacuse we are using a tweaked dx9 engine from 2001? So many stupidly small things in this sim kill the FPS that other semi modern titles just laugh off (and I mean all genres). Like lights costing 6 fps, and cockpit flood lighting costing 10 fps. And flying through a column of non volumetric smoke another 10-20 fps.

Rockets kill performance 40 fps down to 5fps
BTTW-DratsaB replied to Raven434th's topic in Game Performance
I was testing yesterday evening (did update first) and I was spectating an MRLS and it was causing quite a large FPS drop every time a rocket hit the ground. -
What are the chances we could get changes logs with these updates? ED may wonder why we care and that it is not important....But come on....we are playing an anally retentive flight sim, is that surprising we want to know whats going on under the hood? :) I hate things updating and not knowing what changed, even if I don't always understand the change log, it still makes me feel better seeing it.

some facts: AF has no affect on performance....in any game since like 2001 ( AA is a different story) AF forced via the NV cp used to work wonders for DCS A10 and BS Since several patches ago they ruined the ability of AF forced via the NV CP to make any difference in this sim. Now the texture filtering in game is absolutely crap all the time (maybe if I used High textures it will look better, but I can't with my hardware) AFx16 used to be a nice compromise on lower quality texture setting, as it just makes the texture sharper for further into the distance. Not anymore though. There is no way on earth that the op should loose 20 fps ! with AF on 16. you are missing some thing else. I am surprised to see you say this, as people will believe(trust) you as you are an "ED tester". For AA maybe....but AF? No way. This is how miss information spreads around sims, and you end up with performance guides recommending things like "Disable Physx" or set GPU to "maximum performance"

or save your self any trouble and install in C:\games\DCS :) Thanks for the new update, shame we have to do a full reinstall though. I also wonder what the significance of this "Auto updater" will be when a lot of the time for most problems, the fix given by ED often goes like this: User: I have problem x ED: Did you install the patch or full version? User: Patch ED: Reinstall the full version I saw the above so often I stopped even bothering with patches. So are ED now happy that their patches will be just as stable as when you do a full install?

Interesting demonstration of tech I have never seen before I can't get the damn embed to work.... *Ty Nate, whats the trick to it? Ahh yes, got it. Thanks again.

That's what surprised me the most. You would think given that, they would be ultra careful not to pee anyone off. What are they doing over there taking pictures for now anyway? You would imagine all of that kind of information gathering would have been done long ago. Oh well, at least the money they made from DayZ will help with the bail cost :P

Heh, I don't find the Allahu Akbar too odd or disturbing. Have you ever watched a western video (ahem..read American :D )where some thing of great significance/ or traumatic is occurring? All you hear is Oh My God, Oh My God, Oh My God, Oh My God... Not really a hundred miles away from Allahu Akbar, it makes me smile when I notice it in videos these days. Ps please read as an interesting observation on culture rather than poking fun . -
RIP :(

TrackIR 5, Mouse Key Bind - delayed reaction
BTTW-DratsaB replied to Megagoth1702's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
So that's what causes this. It's one of those things I always tell my self I will investigate when it happens in game, but never do..! For myself, I notice it most with Racing sims. As you say, I press the "centre view" button on my wheel and there is a 2-3 second delay in it actually performing the action, but not always. And also like you mention, if you push it once it will respond quickly after that for a time. When your racing other people at 150+ mph such delays = no fun :D. Odd thing is I always have my "Logitech Profiler" (G27) loaded. I don't think it happens with my mouse, mostly just my wheel, maybe my Saitek X52..cant remember. Maybe I just don't notice it on the mouse and stick as much. You are much more aware of "time" and Input delays when racing. -
Just what I thought when I saw these pics!

jeez, saw the thread title and thought he might of died! Guy is a legend, I loved "Lock n' Load". They should really make more!

Me too, I really hope they can pull this off. It's an incredible machine. Check out this virtual view using some nice NASA 3d simulation tool http://solarsystem.nasa.gov/eyes/player/?document=http://solarsystem.nasa.gov/eyes/content/documents/msl/msl.xml

The standard Su25 in lockon had guided rockets, not tv guided though. You used the yellow piper on the "hud" and had control after launch.

Preferred Headphones
BTTW-DratsaB replied to seldridge1960's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Creative-Fatal1ty-Detachable-Noise-Cancelling-Microphone/dp/B000P5VR16 These are the best gaming headphones I have used. So good I have bought a second pair to replace the ones I have when they eventually die. 1. very comfortable, no ear aches etc after hours of use. 2. mine are about 3-4 years old. I have had to repair (easy to disassemble) them once about a year ago due to a loose wire where the main wire goes into the can. 3. No probs attaching a TCP. 4. Mic boom is removable and has a wind shield and is articulated. Never get any complaints from TS users. 5. Ingore the crappy marketing, I usually "roll eyes" at "pro gamer" sponsored products, but these are actually really good. Be aware there is a new version of these headphones. I haven't tried them, but the look over complicated and are over priced. And are missing some of the nice features of this model (removable mic boom). -
