  1. +1 I don't need copies of everything I have in my hands on the screen :) . Who knows, maybe even get a few FPS gain.
  2. Thanks for the new patch. CBU 97 are great. TGP Flir is much nicer now. Performance is pretty disappointing though. It seems I can never get this to run satisfactorily. Lots of jittering, stuttering choppy fps. Fps are always going from 32 to 22 or any where in between. Its never stable. I can't remember the last time a flew a mission in DCS A10 where I was not thinking of performance problems in the back of my mind for most of the flight. E.g trying unsuccessfully to ignore them. It was probably back in the beta or shortly after the first release. It's kinda sucking the joy out of flying for me.
  3. I don't have BS2, but this thread caught my eye. I had a similar anomaly with "Alt tabing" to gain FPS in DCS-A10. Even the kind of FPS loss and gains you are getting seem very similar. I was able to "Fix" it by dual booting with Win7 and running on that. I was on Vista64. I notice that you are on Win Vista too ( and have a 295 which I also do). Here is the thread if you want to have a look: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=71789 the Alt Tab discovery was at post #5. I was considering trying A10 patch 1.10 on my Vista install again when it is released to see if the issue has gone. After seeing this I have my doubts though. I doubt it has anything to do with AA or AF being disabled either. AF literally costs no FPS even when forced to x16. I have tested AA on and off in DCS A10 and it has little impact on FPS also.
  4. I don't play BS anymore so I doubt I'll get this anyway. But, it seems kind of expenive for a couple of upgrades that you already have if you paid for DCS:A10. I think the name BlackShark2 was a mistake too. I'm surprised they didn't wait until Nevada map was finished and include that. That would be worth $20 and would have made the package go down much better with everyone I feel. Still, people got to make a living I guess. PS, can any =one give me a link to some screen shots of the new cockpit, if there are any yet?
  5. Hmm interesting ideas/methods. One question about trimming that i was never quite clear on. When you are going to land, is there some event that causes the trim to return to neutral? Like putting the flaps to landing or lowering the gear? The reason I ask is; 1: there is no trim reset as far as I can see. 2. I have never had any problems when landing even after I have been mucking about with trim, It always seems to land the same, as if something about landing preparation is neutralizing the trim automatically.
  6. ^Holy crap Cylon Mk1. Big Dog is very impressive, love watching it on ice. These machines take a trip down the "uncanny valley" and they don't even have a face!
  7. Check this vid of a guy demonstrating a 3d real world map technology to rival anything Google has at the moment. It is truly stunning. Any flight sim fan can't but help let their mind wander off on the huge benefits such tech could give our favourite flight sims! Apparently it has been made possible by the recent declassification of military mapping tech. Sorry if repost
  8. Yes, great pic. Looks extremely menacing :weight_lift_2:
  9. Not my cup of tea personaly. But...I love to see advancements in all kinds of simulators. The "Cockpit" GFX look very nice + click-able cockpit, best thing to happen to sims since......sims I guess :D . Though, I often find it odd with even modern train sims, how lacking the external terrain is. I would have thought, given the view perspective, that they could be using vegetation equivalent to Arma2 by now? Still looks pretty nice though, ty for the news.
  10. Heh heh, nice camo, at least until it catches fire :D
  11. Ahh so it is. didnt notice it was back seat. I still doubt they will add TiR support though, even though natural point say it would a a perfect game for it and are happy to help EA implement it.
  12. Looks interesting. It's pretty amazing how close the HO229 was to our current designs for stealth aircraft. The Axis had some serious talent in the design field.
  13. I remember when BF was about multiplayer not this scripted stuff. Who wants to play a campaign in a BF game?..not me anyway. They should put 100% of their effort into multilayer, that was made 1942 so revolutionary, it broke the mould in every way possible. Also, looks like you rely quite a lot on panning your head around with the hat switch etc. You can guarantee they still wont include TrackIr support though. I'm finding it very hard not to be cynical about BF3. EA and Dice are just so predictable. The best aerial combat these Devs ever got close to was dog fighting in Desert Combat... and that wasnt even their work.
  14. I still don't get why people think it will be unrealistic for combat beacuse its Nevada? It's just a desert type terrain...jeez. I don't see why it would be so hard to imagine it was iraq/afghanistan etc... Forget the name and enjoy the terrain™
  15. IL2 mostly for me. Me and a mate used to play on LAN loads. It was easy to play with semi sim fans, usually a nice coop. No such luck with DCS though..too complex for the useless buggers :D
  16. Yeah, RoF clouds are sweet. Water droplets that react correctly to airflow on your goggles when you fly through them too.
  17. Not with a 64bit game though. Unless he has released a new version that is compatible recently... I think this AA is great, but I have done some tests and this AA is about the equivalent of 2xAA. For me, my FPS does not change at all when I go from 0 AA to 2xAA. So I'm not sure how much of a benefit it would really be for DCS:A10. Still no harm in adding it I guess.
  18. Any one else having serious speed issues with the site. Some times I click a link and it just sits there for ages, then I click refresh and it appears. Other times it just wont load at all and it's like the whole site has gone down, then it works again 2 minutes later. It was like this a while ago but got better. Now it seems to be gradually getting worse again.
  19. Yep, lights are for some reason an absolute killer on FPS. I don't know why they cost so much performance in DCS. I think the last time I had problems with a light in game was HalfLife 2's flash light back in 2004. My guess is it's some down side of still using the ancient Lock On engine. Nowadays lights should not cause modern hardware in game to loose 20FPS Another light that murders fps is the green cockpit flood light.
  20. Aye, it's really nice alternative to traditional AA. Especially for some games that have trouble with transparency and DX9, or some that just don't run well with MSAA. I guess your running a 64bit version of DCS:A10? Unfortunately the "mod" does not support 64 bit games yet. It will be nice to try with DCS, though I have done some tests myself and AA has no difference in FPS for me when going between 2XAA or no AA. So I doubt it will be of much benefit to us.
  21. An extra model in the cockpit would cost more FPS...that's all.
  22. Not really, I don't like the idea either and would not use it. To me its the same as having a Virtual steering wheel rendered on screen in a racing sim when I have a steering wheel in my hands. As with four legs, I would have 2 wheels :), seems silly and a waste of fps/resources to me.
  23. Sweet, I love all James May's shows.
  24. For some reason when ever I see that on the screen, I always get the song "Jingle Bell Rock" in my head, but replace jingle bell with gimbal roll lock. lol yes I am possibly insane.
  25. That looks really cool. Looks like a cross between DCS and Arma. Lots of cool effects for a sim...smoking craters, nice explosions, trees blowing in the wind and John Woo birds!!
