  1. Oh I say! I am blushing! so the second video on the projected monocle looks good?
  2. there will be an IRL Apache boy here soon... I am sure!
  3. Yes I noted it in the later video that the PNVS image alone lags, I think in real life it smears the image badly.... but I do not know.

    PNVS

How superb does the helmet mounted display look in those videos! PNVS (Pilot Night Vision System) looks superb; I am really looking forward to seeing that in VR! night vision Images overlaid onto the right eye only, Left eye reading the bright cockpit instruments perfectly! This will be very special in VR. I note in Wag’s introduction video, at 3minutes 18seconds he uses the PNVS and looks down and right. The displayed PNVS image kind of refreshes blank in the direction of Wag’s head movement,.... is this caused by the mechanical lag in the PNVS turret? ….. It would be so cool if that is modelled! Something I never ever thought about before was how the PNVS was displayed on the monocle, I always thought it would display over the total circle of the monocle…… but obviously not! It is a simple mechanical rectangular image! . A simple TV screen superimposed onto the flight display data…. So rudimentary, so junky simple, so cool. Another thing I never thought of is that the PNVS has no roll axis, it is bolted to the airframe and therefore tracks the artificial horizon perfectly regardless of the pilots head orientation. This rectangular PNVS Image tracks the artificial Horizon perfectly and must be very useful for the pilot to understand his roll Attitude during a turn at night. The look down capability of the PNVS/TADS system is pretty impressive in these videos, it is like looking through steel! Yup, ED is gonna give me a whole lotta schooling with this module. Whichever way you look at it, whatever point of view you have, whatever country you belong too or have allegiance too…… I reckon there is a really really Bad Dog coming to DCS world.
  5. MI-8 ain't got massive lift wings. Hind does. large area for the rotor down wash to interact with as you slow down, down wash moving forward over the wings and all that junk. Mi-8 also does not have retracting wheels, I wonder how that effects the airflow whilst decelerating, I might try that, bring the machine to a hover first then extend the wheels. Would be good to hear from some Russian MI-24 pilots concerning this.
  6. Indeed, the A-10 has a sole purpose of being a tank killer, sheer armour penetration is its purpose and it does so with glorious fabulous gusto! The rate of weight at point delivery is just shocking! But that is the Gatling guns purpose! The Russian AP round is for sure weaker but deadly to heavily armoured vehicles when dropped onto the engine vents of any western main battle tank. The cyclic rate of western European/eastern European weapons is slower, so less penetrating power is placed at a single point during any given second of the engagement. No, for me it is more the HE explosive round that is horrifying with the Russian round, It is impressive with the hind due to its rate of fire, but it is the KA-50 and 2A42 that hits the sweet spot for me. That ability to move a Kannon that would qualify as an anti armour field gun in early WWII with such ease, to hydraulically drop and swing its barrel out onto a target is very impressive. When Ed expands the explosive capabilities of all HE rounds, the 2A42 will just be lethal! I love the 2A42, my love for it is the wrong love.... it is a bad love! The Russians seem to pack their brass with either slow burning powder or a lot of powder as there is always a massive muzzle flash... perhaps they are allowing for wartime manufacturing tolerances in powder load, whatever they are doing they do not allow the bullet to slow down in the barrel.
  7. In real life, and with the wars we have fought, the use of radar guided hellfire's is a little extreme. For sure they have been tested here and there, any military would be crazy not to test them in warfare regardless of whether they are overkill or not. In DCS, and once we get the mast mounted Radar, I will be ripple firing them like they are going out of fashion.
  8. Yep! ED must take the in pit pilot crown off of Razbam. The Apache pilots will be the best VR pilot in DCS! From the helmet to the body it will be a true delight. And then hopefully the Hind will get some of it.
  9. Agreed, I cannot wait too.
  10. The Apache is a better war machine, for me there is no doubt. But how does it roll or pitch when we need it it roll into a dive because a man launched missile was released of our 4 o'clock ? in the KA-50 I can get out of most missile and heavy gun fire with just manoeuvring, if there was a medal for bringing back the most amount of decoy flairs.... I won it! FMC sounds about right and will be one of the first buttons I programme.
  11. Well the KA-50 with no APs is my reference point.... these reference points are virtually impossible to replicate in "our" weight class. It was designed from the wheels up as a fighter chopper. So off course here is my reference, lighter and faster with a whole hunk a punch. But with out a doubt it does not have the optics of the apache both visually or in the X-ray band! it cannot organise targets like the 64D. Even more critically the KA-50 does not have the fabulous defensive suite that the 64D has. How do you compare the fabulous KA-50s roll against the 64D roll? does the KA-50 pitch faster?
  12. I cannot wait to find out. Limitations of an airframe is what makes it all worth while and interesting. it is what defines the sublime from the average.
  13. No I am indicating improved roll and pitch manoeuvrability beyond the safe limits. moving faster and into more dangerous flight envelopes that may be far more beneficial when flying in the deadly Peer to Peer warfare DCS offers. FMC sounds like it may be my best friend.
  14. I can think of many situations where I will want to switch off all automated pilot assists. But let us see how she handles first and foremost, perhaps raw man input is not required on the heavy 64D...
  15. Remember, whilst the Russian round looks close to the A-10 round, they are quite different animals. The A-10 round is a depleted uranium round, the incredibly dense atomic structure of depleted uranium gives the bullet shocking inertia through its amazing weight, a truly armour piercing inertia. The shoulder of the A-10 cartridge looks like it sits only a little higher than the Russian round, but believe me, this small difference coupled with a 30mm diameter round is a massive increase in gunpowder capacity, which equates to greater velocity exiting the barrel. But off course the A-10 round is heavier due to its density so it needs this additional powder to push the bullet up the barrel until it exits. Upon leaving the barrel the A-10 bullet may roughly equal the velocity of the Russian round, but it is the weight of the bullet that carries the destructive power. Velocity is only one indicator to a rounds firepower, the other is weight of bullet. The A-10 round is king of the 30 mike-mikes, The Russian round is still a nice compromise that will kill almost anything it touches. But I am really looking forward to the Apaches fast full arc of fire 30mm. Fast and deadly, A real quick draw in a tight situation and able to sustain accuracy. F%£K yeah!
  16. Never used either of them. Airframe is so solid and stable, pitch and roll is all I use. I probably need more hours on the Hind to appreciate the other APs.
  17. unsure whether LTE is modelled. Sometimes loss of tail rotor occurs and wind is involved, but I am unsure if I was aggressive when coming to a hover. It generally happens to me when slowing down but even less so recently.... possibly due to sim pilot experience or updates to the flight model. On take off, I never experience it with wind... and I have tried many times to rotate my nose or tail into the wind. I hope LTE is there.
  18. I reckon nothing lean on this airframe. Packed with defensive sensors and countermeasures. Stuffed to the eyeballs with offensive optical and radar targeting suites with heavy computers to make quick sense of the target information. The airframe further dragged down by a pivoting 30 mm cannon with an arc of fire through 120 degrees. The Apache A is lean, no fat on that bad boy! The Apache D is is simply pure intelligent aggressive ingress into the battle field.... it ain't lean.... but is is very mean! I meant Really Mean! I would love to compare the Apache D with the French Eurocopter in DCS.
  19. Soon..... I will be parting with $2000 to get a graphics card that will hopefully get the apache ticking along toot sweet in VR when in tight and uncomfortable situations. For me it is all relative.
  20. The Hind wheel suspension is superb. The apache is supposed to be a real WTF moment first time you take a corner. Really looking forward to that. The superb optical array will be good mind. Awesome pilot and co-pilot views out the big windows might also be a talking point. Dropping a Hellfire from high onto the Syrian tank dug into a hull down position on the Syrian map might be something worth mentioning. And if line of site ain't right, call in a jet to lase for you.... for sure he ain't carrying the number precision ordnance you are! Yeah... the Apache might just be worth a try.
  21. So it will not re-centre with the lowest setting for planes? Close to centre though? Does everyone find this? Are you using the new soft spring? For choppers, it would be my intention to quickly disconnect the spring and increase the damping effect so resistance is felt when pushing the pedal.... would this work well? I simply want an easy and quick solution for choppers (mostly) and planes.
  22. Really hoping Vaicom do so, in the interim I think I will have a go at doing it myself with this superb programme.
  23. Surprisingly cheap! Crickey, this is getting real! I will not ask... nope.... I will not ask..... ETA?
  24. This a cyclic located hat that you are talking about? Left Attitude. Force trim release up right is Altitude hold down is hold mode disengage I have not yet looked at the Apache stick as I am busy with the Hind. But have I got that right? A hat on the cyclic for each AP mode?... I like the sound of that..... sounds like what I did with the KA-50 on my warthog!
  25. If you're talking about heading hold / turn coordination the only way you can turn that off is by turning off force trim or holding the force trim release. Switching off force trim is not what I would want, Press and holding the force trim does sound doable I guess.... it is the basic trim button on the stick?
