I do not see the Apache in that list and I truly cannot understand why not... must be because they want it to be a surprise. Surely Ed is not just concentrating on maps and little girl planes from here on in are they?

Need help with autohover and changing height.
Rogue Trooper replied to Larkis's topic in SA-342M Gazelle
The advice on the Auto hover the other chaps have answered. But just regarding the other information you gave. When engaging targets, you should leave a little distance between yourself and the trees/buildings you are hiding behind. The HOT missile climbs when it is fired then dives down again after a certain distance. The Hot missile only needs a little distance to clear your cover and there fore you do not need to increase height to fire the missile. Stay at the height where your camera just sees over the obstruction. After launch, start counting to 10 seconds; 1-1000, 2-1000, 3-1000 until you reach 10 seconds. If a ruskie launches a missile at you within 10 seconds you are in danger of dying just when you kill him but more than likely you WILL die just before you kill him. This is the true advantage of the Russian missile's high velocity and it is a truly superb advantage! At 10 - 12 seconds you can guide your missile all the way to the target with another 2 - 3 seconds left to take cover from his missile. -
Syrian and Afghan theatre of operations confirmed!

Very nice list of future maps creating a very large area to fly in. V nice! -
This base unit sounds good to me and is my preference at the mo. But there really needs to be a "bottom" base mount unit for the virpil base unit (perhaps at additional cost). The forward mount system can be the cheapest option as it allows sales of virpils own desk mount extensions.... this is fine. It is absolutely critical that standardization across the joystick market becomes fact! For me Thrustmaster were the start of the affordable top end sticks, so for me the thrustmaster connection between grip and base stick is the defacto connector. Base mounting is the same. Once all connection points are standardized, then this allows for extreme diversity from different manufacturers. Whilst Virpil may be concentrating on an F-16 grips, Mrs Miggins' joysticks may be releasing an apache grip and Daves sticks may be bringing out an F5 grip, how can we not all be happy with such a socialist system..... the same occurred with operating systems and hardware in the 90s. Once the base and connectors are sorted and standardised then you will create a market that will allow everyone to thrive! But be aware there are a lot of manufacturers out there who understand that our sim requires a lot of virtual pit input whilst the growing VR world blinds us to our real world mfds and pits! The base unit we need will allow a seriously massive switch input...... forget military...... we are moving beyond and into the leading edge.

Thanks Dburne, This is the front face mount for the virpil desk top mount unit but is very helpful for my needs. However I need to convert the Virpil front face mount system to a standard "base" mount system like the warthog. My seat has a built in between the legs centre mount that is drilled for the Hawg but can be drilled for anything. The hawg vibrates nicely due to my gametrix seat.... It is very nice to feel the stick and throttle vibrate with the seat. It is a bonus that I will not give up! So basically I need an L bracket that fixes to my seat centre mount and engages the front mounting bracket of the Virpil base unit. As my seat has a fixed adjustment I need to pre fabricate an L plate that will lock the Virpil Front bracket diagram you have provided but then move down and under the Virpil base unit to secure it to my chair centre table. Do you have any accurate drawings of the entire base unit and mounting bracket? Virpil, I am willing to give this a go and I will succeed eventually. How many of your customers will not pull the trigger because of the hassle?

Are you using the hawg grip andrewwong2000? What extension are you using, I believe the standard Virpil extension is 10cm, am I correct here (10 cm is the perfect extension for me and it must be supreme with the centre smoothness)? what springs you got as standard andrewwong2000...... what others are available? Are there any accurate drawings for the base unit mounting so that I can mount this base to my seat central platform whilst minimising height adjustment loss?

Digital integration were a superb producer in their day.... I loved all of their chopper releases. The Belsimtek model will be superior but a dynamic campaign would be a serious want for me. -
You should buy the Crosswind pedals.... a man learns patience when them bad boys are on order! No regrets on arrival mind!

Vikhr missiles stop working after a while and nose dive
Rogue Trooper replied to fargo007's topic in Bugs and Problems
Too fast on release I reckon, vikhrs should only be on manual when excessive long ranges are required and when you are at a vastly superior altitude. your altitude passes potential energy to your missiles kinetic energy. The automated Timer and targeting are actually your friends in the right circumstances. Kannon usage at a point blank range is the only other time manual mode needs to be activated, continuous violent fire is all that's required point blank. -
Also make sure that your throttle is at a comfortable level to your left elbow and shoulders. An off set too low on the left controller will tilt your body to the left leaving the right too high, this will also cause tense muscles on the right arm.

Vikhr missiles stop working after a while and nose dive
Rogue Trooper replied to fargo007's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yes the Laser works on repair now. I got two loads plus 1 or 2 missiles in the old days when laser repair did not work....... repair just would not repair the laser! You had to be real tight on ranging and beaming in the "good ol days". you just learned to be tight back then. -

Too fast on release for the previous missile perhaps, do you set the fire control to auto or manual? -
For the Kamov, your track IR curves should be restricted to slow and accurate movement around the central HUD. left/right is just for looking around and searching for targets so you can apply a steeper less accurate curve outside the central/forward cockpit area. But it should also be noted that when a target is seen to your left/right of flight path, dropping the HMS on target and uncaging on target will lock the target into the computer and offer a rough shkval targeting position once you rotate the airframe and bring weapons bare. Once you get used to tracking targets in a straight line or a gentle automated turn, coming to an auto hover very low and in amongst buildings is interesting. Release the directional AP and offset your pedal to start spinning the kamov. Free Track doors and windows on the buildings as they spin by..... walk the fire. You are starting to control movement whilst concentrating head movement during a very disorienting experience...... it will get worse when you live control the Kamov! Once in combat and when it gets tight and nasty, the APs pitch and altitude are your greatest friends, they will never be able to compensate for the violent low level tight Kannon Kombat scenario, but they will at least work in the right direction. Roll and direction APs are seriously not required in such unavoidable circumstances. Each and every AP should be on your Hotas. No dead zones should exist in you IR curvature, smoothing is a must but dead zones are for the dead. Jet or fly forward plane boys have nothing to offer in this conversation. (period). This is weapon to target... movable turrets only. Jet boys just do not know intimate air support.... they will look at you with a glazed look in their eyes when such stuff is discussed.

Vikhr missiles stop working after a while and nose dive
Rogue Trooper replied to fargo007's topic in Bugs and Problems
Generally after a full load of Vikhrs are fired a good 30 minute cool down is required. When I did this, the most I have been able to get was two full Vikhrs sorties before failure occurred almost immediately on the third sortie. I used the laser very sparingly and waited long time (seconds?) between vikhr launches. The Russian 1980s laser is a hunk a junk.... for me this is fine. -
It takes a lot of practice to get used to the HMS sight but once you have it you wont loose it.... you may get worse due to lack of practice but it will come back quickly. Due to the small screen size of our monitors and the disproportionate movement of track IR head sets to our real head movement, an extreme movement precision is required of your skull. The HMS sight is fixed over your right eye (right side of monitor image) and it is head movement that controls where the HMS reticule targets and hence the Shkval, laser and kannon follow live and liquid. There must be no dead zones in the centre screen of the Track IR setup, movement must be free floating left to right, up and down. A slow precise TIr curve in the centre view promotes more accuracy when looking through the HUD. Any jitter or hang at the dead centre of the screen will put you off. When the shkval uncage button is pressed and held, the shkval and Kannon follow (chase) the HMS sight wherever you move it. There is a slight delay in the Shkval green targeting ring catching up with the HMS sight but it will catch and level on the centre of the HMS cross hair. I suggest flying low over a city and either in a straight line or a wide right hand circle. The auto pilots should be in full control so that you can practice moving your head for targeting without needing to fly. Drop the HMS reticule over your eye and get used to it as you look around. Place the HMS cross hair over a door, window, deck chair or whatever, then pull and hold the uncage button. The shkval target circle will chase and level on the HMS cross hair, track the target using head movement, compensate for any shkval green circle lag as this is where the bullets go. learn to offset the green round Shkval target circle especially if there is an error in tracking (cage and uncage to clear tracking errors). learn to walk fire onto your target with precise head movement. Learn it for the zoom modes you use. The 1:1 head movement of VR headset will make this Kannon to head tracking super accurate!..... roll on the AH-64!

Once you love the KA-50 long time, you will realise that she is just about right for the helicopter revolution..... not quite, but just about! KA-50 will swallow the MI-24 whole and spit out the pips..... this is Klar. -
[Official] SimShaker for Aviators
Rogue Trooper replied to f4l0's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I am a little confused about the software. I cannot find an obvious place to donate to the development of the software or is there now a purchase version of the software? A few links would be good, as superb work deserves reward. -
Jetseat is great for planes and really adds immersion when flying them. But in Sim choppers the jetseat is a fundamental tool of flight!

We need an OV-10 bronco and your the guys to do it!

And a very nice plane with superb flight characteristics! A Vietnam model would be good to start. -
Vote for the OH-58D for president !
Rogue Trooper replied to Shadow KT's topic in Polychop-Simulations
The OH-58 is just one of those choppers that deserves a one sided Poll. Without doubt though, her systems must be thoroughly modelled! -
The MI-8 is the most rewarding helicopter in DCS. Once the complexity of the pit is understood then the true worth of the MI-8s design starts to be revealed. The MI-8 is just able! If some ones got some dirty old job to be done, then the MI-8 is the best design for all the dirty old jobs.

If the MI-24 we get can laser range find, then a pair of MI-8s port and starboard would be a seriously nasty wing of 3 choppers.... MI-8s peeling of at 2-1.5 clicks. -

In terms of the KA-50 and how the MI-24 ranks in comparison; The MI-24 is a brute of a chopper... especially the machine we will get with its dual rapid fire 30mm Kannons. just a Brute. The KA-50 is a high precision, High capacity sniper that fires guided missiles that have a shocking.... shocking velocity that can be fired quickly after an attack and still hit first !
