  1. Dirty glazing are an essential part of chopper operations. Dirty glazing is a tool that the operator uses. The MI-8 has the option to choose dirty windows instead of unrealistic "childish gamer" crystal clear windows. We need this option on all choppers. I have never been in a chopper with such crystal clear glazing.............. NEVER!
  2. Red on Red tells me something different, Red on blue with their air superiority screams at me that this statement is simply not correct!
  3. It depends on your needs. Personally I love the target programme, its output is as reliable as the sun coming up in the morning. In target and in my KA-50 and MI-8 I can switch between dropping a flare every 2 seconds for 15 seconds to 1 flare every 1 seconds for 12 seconds to dumping flares constantly until I command it to stop.... I can do this with a single click of a hat switch on my throttle. I can then relax and watch the flare control unit reset and then insta press 15 switches in the correct sequence ready for me to deploy flares exactly how I want them deployed. Hell I been yanking and banking and working the pit hard whilst letting my lovely target take a little more strain off of a really bad day in the office. Target always allows the toggle switches on the base of the throttle to work as you desire. but I digress, Trim Trim reset targeting sight deploy/store Targetting sight cross hair adjust weapon release flare deploy/stop weapon control panel Rocket/guns weapon control panel Rocket salvo I like to crank up the engine/rotor RPM when needed (governor RPM switch up and down)... A very handy switch to have when a fellas in a tight spot. most of the other stuff can be set with the mouse before take off.
  4. Indeed, but I guess if you are successful enough at flying NAP then perhaps the jamming turrets are not so important, but for sure those jamming turrets will be quick to get on target... split second. How good is the software at bringing those turrets to action will be a nice problem to work with. On release I will take her red on red to gauge whether she is fit for purpose... nothing comes close to Ruskie ground air defence in my book. But the chance of being aware of the battle field will increase my time to weapons release beyond belief.
  5. It will definitely be interesting to see how nap of earth flying affects it... I can't wait to find out.
  6. With some preparation and reading of the Delta simulation web site, this upgrade was easy to install and calibrate. Each module requires its own curves for the best results, but without doubt this upgrade truly makes the Warthog throttle top notch. It now controls my gazelle and KA50's targeting cameras perfectly... finally the KA-50's shkval can slew 45 degrees perfectly!.... Highly recommended to the Hawg pilots out there.
  7. Insta flip of the wallet here amalahama, and I will burn you with my weapons and situational superiority. THe Gazelle is currently THE TOP END DCS PRECISION WEAPON ATTACK HELICOPTER. All attack choppers have been tested and cleared for air to air missiles, they simply do not need to use them against their current enemies. You will not see choppers carrying them in wars from 1980 to 2019, why? air superiority was guaranteed! The newer AH-1Z is the only airframe you see at the moment fully weaponized for air to air warfare. As peer to peer warfare looms on the horizon, you will soon see all other chopper models carrying air to air weapons very quickly. For ED, KA-50 III creates a much needed buffer zone for USSR choppers, the Hind will be superb but it is not a precision weapon delivery system. The KA-50 III will fill the gap on the Russian side that will allow ED/3rd party time to develop a western precision attack chopper (apache/Tiger??? I do wonder if the European tiger is a nasty piece of work). The fact that the KA-50 exists at all in DCS is just as valid as the KA-50 III which was the final development model for the KA-52. Indeed, one may suggest that the existence of DCS world itself is all based on the KA-50, its reality and true existence is entirely based on the chopper that never was..... weird! KA-50 III and an update of graphics for our MI-8 and a massive update for our huey is well overdue! I think the tinky toy FC3 graphics have been updated before the study sim MI-8, Huey and KA-50! FC3! Can you imagine the shame I feel!
  8. Chopper pilots are weird! That's the problem. We are Weird, who in there right mind flies low in amongst enemy fire and even slows down and lands right in the middle of hostilities! For me the absorption of Belsimtek into ED was the worst thing that could have happened as they will now concentrate on American jet fighters or the pathetic WWII airframes America produced (except the stang). perhaps another variant of a german fighter we already got.. perhaps? I have heard this tune soo many times it makes me puke. I own every thing in DCS! Every module except FC3 (I bought each airframe individually when released). I always bought on pre release... always. I did this because I wanted DCS to expand and expand fast. I did this for every 3rd party developer no matter what they released. I tried to get into the planes and apart from the harrier and Viggen, I just found them boring... I only love choppers! There is absolutely no doubt that chopper up dates are well and truly at the back of the line.... and even when we reach the back of the line, I am sure ED will find some new idea that needs work before the chopper updates. I find this behaviour shameful. I hear nothing of the Hind and plenty of another US jet, the F16. In the old days I knew my place but nowadays I must ensure that DCS moves in the right direction before we end up with some useless all American simulator with no opposition what so ever! So for the chopper community I will now make a commitment. No longer will I buy anything from DCS or 3rd parties until a new chopper is released. And funny enough, yes please! The chopper community would kill for a US attack Chopper!
  9. Although the Tornado would be good.
  10. yeah, I think we gotta sit back and look at this as a whole. As mentioned before, we are desperate for modern RED airframes and after all DCS is a global platform. We have a real funny balance at the moment, Most jet fighters are blue or American, Is there any study sim Russian fighter airframes in DCS? The mig 21 and? Is there any study sim Russian ground attack aircraft in DCS? And then we have the choppers; Here it is completely lacking; the KA-50 is almost there but no intelligent army would allow this expensive airframe into the battle field as it lacks ability to defend itself against radar! The Gazelle is more fully formed as an attack chopper but it is a light weight! In the chopper community we are gagging for an advanced American attack chopper even though there is nothing really there for the reds! So there is my rant. For jets.... RED! For choppers.... anything you can spare guv, got kids to feed!
  11. The F-14 is an Incredible module. you have really pushed ED's Engine to its very limits! Well done Heatblur and well done ED! A truly break through product! Surely the tornado must be next! It is very similar to the tomcat but is a low level interdictor, it will build on the jester system perfectly but offer a horribly efficient and versatile machine that can disable enemy assets real quiet and well behind enemy lines. It would be the natural end of the blood line for your Viggen! Apart from that..... an attack chopper must be in the list.... It must be!
  12. Ensure that during your training period no wind is present, compensating trim for wind is something you can pick up once you have the basics. The KA-50 is superbly stable due to its counter rotating blades, this is why all miniature drone choppers have more than one main lift rotor. A superb hover trim can be achieved very quickly without the APs... Indeed I reckon much faster. Without the APs you are flying a chopper and it will feel like a chopper, with the APs you are flying against a computer that may not be trimmed right..... also the computerized APs are aggressive! Once you learn the APs they become predictable and a god send when hunting targets. you can even hunt low in amongst the trees in a slow drift using the HMS to guide forward flight using the auto turn to target function... its a blast! If you have a self centring joystick then you must have a reference to how your virtual stick relates to your real stick! You definitely need the joystick position cheat window open, this is additionally needed because the in game stick throw on the DCS KA-50 is really long and can lead to serious disorientation problems when quickly trimming in combat. Belsimtek crack this problem perfectly with the Huey and MI-8 as the distance of travel of the joystick (in normal flight) is much smaller and thus reduces real stick and virtual stick error that can be quickly corrected with slight movements of the stick without the need to trim. Use the HSI. Set a nice safe height and trim to hover, All APs on, In hover mode the longitudinal and lateral lines on the HSI will tell you if there is any drift from the centre position. They do this by direct feedback from the Doppler radar and they are very accurate. If perfectly trimmed to hover, the last trim will set the centre position on the HSI and this is your commanded position for the computer to hold the hover. The longitudinal and lateral lines will be a perfect cross hair dead centre of the HSI, perhaps the longitudinal line will lag stable just behind centre for the perfect hover trim. If there is drift, due to wind or poor trimming, then you will see these cross hairs drift from centre. They will tell you in which direction you are drifting and roughly how fast. The drift is because the computer cannot hold that hover position with the authority it has over the airframe (20 - 40 %?). The computer requires your input to correct this error. You will need to put a slight pressure on the stick in the opposite direction to retard the drift. If this works trim and re-centre the stick. Also note that with each click on the trim you reset the hover position to the current position that you are at. Experiment with your trim to return the cross hairs to centre. indeed once a perfect hover is achieved try a slow trimmed drift left or right.
  13. I have nothing to offer here, I fly her so low and so fast that some sort of dependence on an automated altitude hold will get me killed for sure! Sorry.
  14. Yes a superb module, fabulous roll rate and a good turner. Extremely good at high speed ultra low level flight.... who would a thunk! Really reminds me of the Tornado. A very nice module.
  15. Are these base units able to be base mounted? Can they be screwed into a flat base surface and offer a solid secure attachment?
  16. I suggest you get the gazelle Gunnar, get it fast. I suggest you get the MI-8 and I suggest you get it real fast. By getting these Sims you will promote the chopper Sim community and you will offer superb experience for which we will all benefit. You will not make assumptions from some bollocks chopper pilot that has some belief that his useless free ride in an R22 teetering blade machine bears any resemblance or relevance to the MI-8. Do not take the descriptions or some video that some hunk a junk part time pilot experienced in comparison to the R22! this is virus on this this web site!
  17. I feel I must mention here that Belsimtek made a conscious decision not to replicate the controls of their choppers fully in order to allow the "majority" of simmers an easy time of controlling the chopper with their desk top controllers. This makes good sense from a sales point of view but without doubt a true sim option in the menu would be sweet. Also the MI-8 only requires a touch of right cyclic to maintain a right turn, this after the main pulse on the cyclic to achieve the correct roll into the turn. She will self level in time without the slight right cyclic. Gunnar, forward flight in the gazelle, you push the cyclic forward to start the acceleration and then centre the stick, the machine continues forward at the fixed speed you set. This good for you? It is really nice to hear someone else talking about the rotor head and blades as the entire way a chopper behaves!
  18. There is only love for our GUV lovelies, I love the compact package they come in....... Sooooooo Sweet! One GUV per side, 6 gatlings in total..... 2 x 12.7 mm and 4 x 7.62mm! Soooo cute! They are the go to POD of choice for me virtually every time..... plus as many rocket pods as I can carry!
  19. As Wolf5 mentions the Nadir/adf does not have a vertical bar. only the nadir direction pointer and ADF signal pointer. The switch that has "DOP" is intended for the attitude indicator or Horizon Indicator only. This switch has 4 modes; OFF. VIS, targeting camera relative to the position of the aircrafts nose, I am unsure if you mentioned this as a state of fact or a question? But this is targeting Camera relative to the aircrafts nose, the airframe's nose must move to the vertical line (cameras position) in order to ensure a firing solutuion. This is correct and it was always this way! VHF ADF guidance emitter, points to any ADF source. DOP. In the manual DOP is explained as Nadir waypoint... and I am sure at one time or another I set this up as you state and it worked like this, it showed a nadir waypoint direction... I am sure! But DOP now is the longitudinal and transversal speed laid over the attitude indicator. It is a function of the Doppler Radar and reads forward speed and drift left or right. A perfect cross hair in the centre means a perfect hover. As you accelerate out of the hover the horizontal bar drifts down (back) from centre until it disappears..... it will only come back once you decelerate and come to a hover. If you accelaerate backwards the horizontal bar drifts forwards until it disappears (lots of backwards speed). The vertical bar drifts in the opposite direction as you drift left or right when in a hover, it maintains a point of hover or a reference for forward flight path. It requires the opposite input to correct drift and maintain a perfect flight path to your destination. it is perfect for bringing the chopper into a hover. I think it may be useless for navigation in the Gazelle. It is however perfect in the MI-8 where the Doppler radar is integrated into the inertial navigation system, here Doppler drift relative to the ground is used to perfectly calculate your course. The NADIR/ADF is perfectly designed to be used for waypoint guidance.
  20. It is coming! When ED says it is coming it is coming.... hopefully soon! The MI-24P we have no word of yet but I somewhat expect us to be disappointed with the delivery time as our comrades Belsimtek, have been absorbed into a greater money making machine. Our brothers are being shown the delights of success and the wealth of consumerism! We should bow our heads low and take of our hats to the greater demand of consumerism, our needs are subjugated! We should feel pain for the passing of the chopper Gods Belsimtek, we should feel pain for our loss! It is like the day Lenin was assassinated before he brought the economical reform to the Soviet Union..... it was something special that WE WILL NEVER KNOW! It was something that robbed all of humanity of something that could have been a 3rd way, but selfish minds gave us nought! But is that not the way it is!
  21. it means work on the KA-52 starts soon!!!!!!!!
  22. Let the module mature dip stick! The C101 module took along time to become what it is now. Fellas like you disrespected the C101 from the get go.... but with time the DEVS achieved a whole lot of love into that module and they are starting to get it smack on! Their love of the C101 will not end! Give these guys a chance Dip stick! Bringing a light weight chopper into combat is a whole new level of hurt.
  23. He he he! This has to be the most wanted product in DCS right now! I reckon it is more wanted than the F-18 not because of ability, but because how Heatblur sees the DCS engine maturing into both a single and multi player game... in some ways they truly are pushing the DCS boundaries. The DEVs choose their testers because like real life test pilots, they want a perfectly neutral test pilots giving them valid highly detailed information that helps them perfect the model...... emotions are useless here. DCS is finally turning into something more global than it intended, it will be superb! A KA-52 from these boys would be something very special!
  24. The FM is not perfect, but bringing this machine into combat is something quite special. really special!
  25. Fine. If you got it right then how can I argue with that. No ground power is faster.... fine, go for it chaps!
