DCS Viggen Why do we believe its a Viggen? To further expand on some of the above. The AJ and AJS-37 use a PS-37A Monopolse radar with Ground Mapping & Targeting radar. the RB-04E anti-ship missile shown on the picture fits the complex missiles with advanced targeting paramters perfectly, as it is a sea skimming missile. Variants - JA 37 (Jakt, Attack) of various variants, interceptor with very little ground attack ability. - AJ 37 (Attack, Jakt) of various variants, ground attacker with very little air-to-air capability. - AJS 37 & AJSH 37 (Attack, Jakt, Spaning) Pretty much updated AJ 37s and SH 37's with more weaponry and recon capability. - SH 37 (Spaning, Hav) Maritime recon variant, very similar to a AJ-37 but a slightly altered radar and a different designation due to role. Only anti-ship and self defense anti-air missiles were used on them - SF 37 (Spaning, Foto) Dedicated photo recon variant. - SK 37 (Skola) Two seater primarily for training. * Jakt = Interceptor, Attack = Attack, Spaning = Recon, Hav = Ocean, Foto = Photo, SK = Skola (School). Ordered in relevance, so JA means that it is a fighter plane with a primary air-to-air function. and a secondary air-to-ground function. Two JA-37 Viggens with their distinct sky grey scheme.

I agree its a good documentary but you can't really expect non-swedes to watch an hour long video with mostly nothing but interviews. Secondly, at this rate we should start a seperate thread called DCS Viggen, becouse this is becoming the Viggen thread.
-
I just really want a door/aft PKT gunner. Is there any plans for this? I read Belsimteks planned update document but it didn't state anything about it.
-
Wrong thread, sorry.

Is this plane in beta or is it deemed final? To me it seems to be missing rockets and gunpods, but im by no means a WW2 expert and i might be wrong that the D-9 used those.
-
Well correct me if i am wrong but the rockets nor the gunpods are still not modelled, and those should be in for it to be "finished" FM wise however, yeah its great.
-
Well the AJ? was introduced in 1971, with all the delays and whatnot the actual JA "Jaktvigg" was introduced around 1980. Edit: I do agree with everything else you are saying however.
-
I would agree but as OP said himself it takes resources from the simulator that could be used for other things. Civilian traffic already do exist, and u can get it up to fairly high amount of traffic but it will tax your system badly and no MP mission designer that is sane will use that amount of traffic becouse it will make it close to unplayable. I've seen a couple of multiplayer missions use it, and my FPS went from a solid 120+ to a solid 20-30. It is just not worth the trade off, in my book. You also have to take into consideration that "those other sims" have way more simplistic calculations for flight models etc that reduces the overall strain on your client or the server as a result and those extra resources saved from low quality FM's can be used to generate civilian traffic. Like pretty much everything in modern sim's, it seems like we have to choose between apple and oranges. Can't have both.

Maybe at the time, a server should easily be able to upload skins to clients. There is a reason those type of downloads are very slow, to reserve most of the upload capacity to actual server stability. I can't imagine it being a problem with todays netcodes and internet infastructure. Well, maybe on servers that are hosted on poor connections but u could also have a system that lets you opt out of the system as an admin. (a la not using it)
-
Yes, +1. I would also love the ability for servers to host custom skins and you download them as a client upon connection for the first time (think Counter Strike map downloads). Right now, there is so many good skins out there but its basicly impossible to use them in multiplayer! :-(

[Mod] New sound for Gepard cannon
Skjold replied to RightStuff's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Would be nice to have a youtube demonstration of the new sound! :-) -
Unfortanly, no. That is a generic link to the home page of anybodys dropbox front page. 1. Go to your dropbox folder where your files are. 2. Right click on said file and select "Copy dropbox link" 3. Magic! :joystick:
-
Thanks, excellent quality on it too!

Beatiful work Oden! Thanks.

If some skinner feels up for a challenge these are some neat skins that i would like although a bit obscure. http://www.avrosys.nu/aircraft/Heli/503hkp3/503HKP3-2.htm I also know that this is a Bell 204B rather then the one we have in game, but close enough since we'll never see that variant in DCS anyway. or (Both should be identical on the other side) Worth a shot :pilotfly:
-
Almost correct... The EW versions were as far as i know only planned and never implemented due to budget cuts. The anti-ship and ground attack variant is the same, AJ and AJS 37 Viggen. And no you're right, Viggen was not a multi-role rather a series of dedicated planes for different purposes on the same basic airframe. The variants that i do know existed in service was: - JA 37 (Jakt, Attack) of various variants, interceptor with very little ground attack ability. - SH 37 (Spaning, Hav) Maritime recon variant, from what i understand should be identical to an AJ-37 just a different designation due to role but only anti-ship and self defense anti-air missiles were used on them - SF 37 (Spaning, Foto) Dedicated photo recon variant. Edit: Little known fact, the camo liveries are generally for ground attacker since they are meant to fly low and fast and the sky grey is the interceptors.
-
Yeah, would be nice to have it as a skin atleast :-)
-
Is there any skins like this somewhere on the interwebs? I could have sworn that i saw one in the past but i can't find it again. Thanks in advance for any help :joystick:

Can't wait to fly this thing!
-
So are the rockets and gunpods planned for the 109? It actually has keybinding relating to both so im curious.
-
I would love a Tornado or a Viggen, both would be great additions.

Yes, but you also know that leatherneck will create a small theater for any plane that feels out of place, so that argument is weird. Where do u draw the line on conceivably being deployed?India could have very well have been an operator of the Viggen, and so could many others in Europe but it didn't becouse of a number of reasons, not least diplomatic pressure from the US that their NATO allies would buy american. If we're gonna go as far to say that USAF F-15 and A-10 Squadrons are deployed in Georgia to fight the start of WW3 you are pretty far out there in the realms of possibility. In that case, you can also quite easily concieve that Viggen got those missed export contracts and saw more widespread service. And yes, Straits of Hormuz does makes sense for any USN plane despite not being out yet, i'll give you that. You could also argue that any and all Red Flag participants including Sweden could fit in the Nevada, so that point is also kinda mute with that logic. Given, as far as i know we always used Gripens and not Viggens in the Red Flag but since USAF has found a new home in Georgia not too far fetched at all.

I think what he meant was this. "A sensible developer, especially at this point in their career, would develop an aircraft with the widest appeal and usage possible." "You mean -- sort of like the F-14?" - Cobra The F-14 and F/A-18, F-15C, A-10's and Mirage 2000 all does not fit in the caucasus map. 109 K-4, 190 D-9, P-51D and all other WW2 aircraft coming out don't belong on the current maps at all. F-86 Sabre, UH-1 Huey doesn't belong in the caucasus at all. MiG-15, F-86 & WW2 stuff does not WW2/Korean War era ground units and AI planes to support them. Since when has that ever stopped anybody? And you're also forgetting that LN has claimed that they will make AI units and a small theater for any plane that feels "out of place" Lets just say it actually is the Viggen. The Viggen did thousands of interceptions of Soviet and WP aircraft and ships and if any cold war gone hot scenario they would likely be involved in some of the first air-to-air engagements and anti-surface operations over Europe. How is it irrelevant to a cold war game again? You also mentioned that you want a dedicated strike aircraft? The Viggen comes in three versions. Interceptor, Strike Fighter & Maritime Recon. the AJ-37 or AJS-37 is a dedicated supersonic strike aircraft capable of firing weapons such as the RB-04E and RBS-15 anti-ship missiles and Mavericks amongst other things. So in conclusion, the only thing i actually agree with is that Viggen doesn't have the widest appeal and usage but overall appeal is subjective such as americans prefering american planes, and alot of europeans prefer european planes. So that leaves that objectivly the Viggen did not see widespread use. I think what you really want to say is, you would prefer other planes that you personally would rather see in the game.

Ground Mapping and Targeting Radar Complex missiles with Advanced Targeting Parameters Custom shaders for enhanced visual fidelity (e.g. CRT Screen representation) Unique visual features (In-pilot customization, etc.) New audio cues and enhanced fidelity Far more complex avionic and computer systems than in the MiG-21 New and unique PFM features and aerodynamic configurations New or unique methods of propulsion or force distribution + Swedish Airforce Logo (Cobra avatar) RB 04E anti-ship missile used on Viggen and Lansen (Cobra avatar) Black Sheep Logo (Cobra avatar) US Marine squadron Black Sheep, flew Corsairs amongst other things. Said their namesake is related to a future module (Leatherneck, nickname of Marine aviators) Probably some more stuff i forgot about. Edit: Keep in mind there is two unannounced modules, not one.
