Poblem with Maverick MFD grond units visibility
NeilWillis replied to hreich's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Quite possibly. The fact remains that it is the most likely issue. In that situation, the clear first course of action to confirm the correct alignment would be to zoom out in the TGP to either confirm or deny the Maverick is correctly laid onto the target. If you are seeing the correct sight picture, then you know that isn't the issue. My point is that there is nothing at all to suggest the two sensors are even looking the same way, and without that, how can any other explanation be drawn? It couldn't be assumed, and therefore remains the most likely cause. -
Against the ground clutter, even in the real world, spotting targets is bound to be problematic. Look for movement, not shape in those circumstances. ED could simplify things by just making all targets pink so they show up. but that is completely ridiculous. Targets are sometimes easy to lose, it is just how it is, and how it ought to be. One way to keep track of an unsighted target is to predict where he will reappear, and when. It's all part of situational awareness. And that is what makes the difference between kill and be killed.

Poblem with Maverick MFD grond units visibility
NeilWillis replied to hreich's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Except the picture in the two screens is clearly entirely wrong. Where is the burning tank? Where is the target centred under the crosshairs? He may think he's slaved the Maverick, but it is clearly the issue. The two sensors are looking at different things. As Sherlock Holmes said "Once you eliminate the obvious". To bug hunt, the first step is to make certain you have ruled out the obvious, and this clearly didn't take place. -
Poblem with Maverick MFD grond units visibility
NeilWillis replied to hreich's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Looking at the images, I would suggest that the Maverick hadn't been slaved to the TGP at all. Once you gain a lock with the TGP, push TMS switch forward long, then China Hat forward long to take the Maverick out of boresight and slave it to the locked target. It seems to me the most obvious thing was overlooked by most people that responded. It doesn't happen automatically, and nor is it meant to. -
Letterbox widescreen resolution
NeilWillis replied to Captain Spears's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Certainly looks like that. Given the right hardware, you can configure DCS World to work using any standard resolution. The limitation will be your monitor's inability to work in the 21:9 format. -
Indeed, VR is the way to go for immersion. Agree with you regarding fogging of canopies, but I am definitely not in favour of jittery cameras. However, check out the Mi-8 or MiG-21Bis if you want to feel the effects of vibration on your viewpoint. The MiG-21Bis, as already stated, is certainly not what you'd describe as on rails. Bottom line though, for realism and immersion, you cannot beat VR, especially in the Rift.

Nosewheel steering toggles radio menu
NeilWillis replied to Saltat_cum_mortem's topic in Bugs and Problems
It is very straightforward to change the mapping so the radio doesn't get triggered by the pinky button. Hardly worth reporting is it? -
We have been encountering crashes during flights when using the server, so we are awaiting a more stable release before we do a lot of on-line flying. It'll soon pick up, you'll see.

DCS 1.5.6 Stops working
NeilWillis replied to bartdude300's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
Re-name your DCS World install in the saved games folder, and a new one will be created next time DCS World runs. If that fixes it, gradually feed back in the files from the old Saved Games folder until you hit the snag again, and you know where the issue lay. It is a part of the DCS World install that can accumulate errors, and it is never touched by updates, so it pays to renew it once in a while. -
Here is the core of your frustration. You honestly think in the great scheme of things $200 counts for anything at all? Frankly, not buying reality is just a recipe for a lifetime of frustration. Chill out a little, relax, take a breath, and your blood pressure will come down. Whether you like it or like it not, Alpha releases are exactly what they say on the tin. Un-optimized, rough at the edges, and unfinished. No one asked you to participate, you chose to, and this is what you get. As a little perspective for you, I went out for a meal with my wife last night. The bill was over $200 and today, I shall evacuate the last traces of that meal. I felt I got great value for money!

You do see details of your own damage, but for opponents (what are fired-uponees exactly?) you will see the registered hits, and no more. Try ploughing a plane into the deck Bearfoot, then review the debrief.

The M2000C is an excellent module - leagues ahead of anything you'll find in any other flight sim. The trouble with this forum is that people make a lot of fuss over some very minor bugs, and give the impression it will lead to the end of the world if not put right immediately. If you listen to some of the nonsense spouted here, you'll get the impression the modules are all rubbish, whereas, they are already far far better than anything else out there. Get the M2000C now, and judge for yourself whether there is any substance in the niggles that everyone here seem to blow out of all proportion to the reality of what is a well polished, and excellent module. Sure, you'll need to be on your toes when it comes to high alpha in landing it, but all you have to do is fly the numbers, and it is fine. I suspect a lot of "pilots" who fly badly are the ones who make the most noise when it comes to the flight model. Fly at the edge of the envelope, and you're bound to get bitten if the figures aren't perfect. Fly as it is designed to fly, and you won't ever notice any of the ragged edge effects being off. And also, take no notice when people tell you what developers are working on at any given time. They're guessing, and have no insight into what is actually happening because we simply aren't told. If you let the forum influence you and don't buy the module, then they're doing DCS World a huge disservice. That is reprehensible, and totally unfair.

M-2000c from Ralfis Alley <thought he could fly well oh boy!
NeilWillis replied to protea1's topic in M-2000
His inability to talk without swearing says everything that needs saying. Pathetic! -
Very pretty. Thanks for your hard work.

Spitfire ground handling updated in 2.1?
NeilWillis replied to Goblin's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Wing tips don't exactly affect ground handling unless you are already tipped onto one. I'd suggest that the interaction betwixt wheel and ground hasn't changed, but the fact that there is no concrete in Normandy will naturally mean an entirely different feel if you have always taken off from prepared runways in Caucasus. My interpretation of "there have been no changes" and yours is clearly at odds. I'd suggest that a change to the way wheels interact with the ground is a change, and Yo-yo was quite unequivocal. There hasn't been a change is the way I read what he said. The Spitfire has always handled better away from concrete, and now, we're just exclusively operating from non-concrete surfaces. Why does that mean there has to have been a change when according to the developers they haven't changed anything but wing tip interactions? -
If Oculus bought them out, then there is obviously some promise in their system. That is definitely what is needed - as long as it is accurate enough, and allows for rotary switch manipulation too. Of course, it'll be useless unless DCS supports it. A few years away yet perhaps?

Spitfire ground handling updated in 2.1?
NeilWillis replied to Goblin's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Did you not read what Yo-yo said? No changes have been made to the flight model of the Spitfire. You're just imagining it has because you are getting to grips with it. -
Under 2.1 you should be able to hide behind terrain - including trees, so pop up, fire, duck down, move pop up...

Your saved games folder is located on your main drive usually, and the full address is something like C:\Users\*the name you gave to your PC*\Saved Games\ It is where all your saved settings, input device profiles and other user specific items are stored.

Absolutely agree. The difference is light night and day. It still needs some improvements, but even so, it is a complete revelation and a huge step forwards towards realistic simulation.

Another one worth investigating as it is on European time, is RAF Air UK. It's a fairly low key, informal organisation, with a dedicated server running all 3 current versions of DCS World. The server is based on a super highway in Germany, so we get excellent ping rates. The server is open to public access 24/7 except when we fly closed missions Tuesday and Thursday evenings. We will soon be running an Operational Conversion Unit type training course (for the Mirage and A-10C initially), which may add another aspect well worth trying. All are welcome to join us. Our website is http://www.rafairuk.co.uk which will provide all the info you need to get started.

When do you take delivery of the rest of the plane? It seems a shame to just have the rudder pedals, don't you agree?

What a hero Danny. Thanks for the link.

Is this software still available? I have rebuilt my PC and need to download it again.
