Decisions Decisions 16GB vs 32GB from what I've experienced. When playing multiplayer having more ram is better, single player not noticed much of a difference. 2070 super vs 2060 super. My line is not under the 2070 super and possible light duty VR would be ok and Mid to high settings @ 1440P 2K, max settings @1080p) I ran on the old 1070 and it was very playable @1440. i7-9700K vs i9-9900K (16M Cache, up to 5.00 GHz) vs (12M Cache, up to 4.90 GHz) GPU is around $100 difference https://www.newegg.com/p/pl?N=100007709%20601341631%20601341616 i9-9900K $500 i7-9700K $400 Most motherboards will take at least 64GB of ram. So yes can be upgraded, it's recommend to by a new set (32 GB Kit) of ram. Not add to the 16 GB. Some still do it an can be fine I guess.... That's why many of us build these systems from parts. To get a better bang for the $. Plus these guy's put average motherboards and pc power supply in their systems to save a dollar. That money we save go's on the high end of those parts. We don't save it, we just have a better system over all and can squeeze out 20%+ more performance generally having those better parts. CPU ---> RAM ---> GPU---> Motherboard --> (Power Supply) all tied into together nicely for max stable performance. -

What is going wrong? FPS
David OC replied to GeorgeSloan's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hi GeorgeSloan, Toms hardware question Will the 1070 work well with this processor? "GTX 970 is bottle necked so much a gtx 1070 will be even more highly bottle necked." At the moment DCS is still also CPU dependent, this may change later. I had a similar problem to you with an older i5 (old gtx 770) limiting my new 1070. So I built up a new pc and swapped the card out once built, then swapped again for the 1080ti and sold off my 1070. Once 1070 was in the new pc I could see 20 to 30 more fps, could hold near 60 fps on medium settings at 1440p. What resolution are you trying to run? 1440p,1080p? You can check this with msi afterburner to see where the bottleneck is, takes a little messing around to setup all the onscreen options. Forward video 2 minutes, 1:50 ish Or just open Windows Task manger and take a look at what's going on when running dcs. Hold Left Alt --> tab to Windows Task manger in game. Leave it open (Task manger), then launch DCS. Then tab to it etc. You should see your CPU (one of them (cell) below maxed out) GPU not working hard 70% etc(Waiting for cpu). -
OK to assume 60hz is fine for flight simulation?
David OC replied to Cavemanhead's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Many of us pull back to 60 fps to smooth it all out and somthing the system can hold. I guess I could reach 120 and sort of stay at 120 most of the time. I would need to pull back some settings which I don't really want to do. So I just set a fixed rate at 60 with nvidia inspector. Not sure about all the in's and out's of it, something to do with the camera polling. I just tried it and it was much smoother when under 120 fps, when you pan around. It's very small micro stutters, just try it. It's not massively noticeable all the time, it is there tho. BitMaster started a fix petition thread last year. -
I have been playing multiplayer a bit lately and it's not that bad. 2560 x 1440 There are pro's and con's here and I think I will leave it up to ED's engineers to brain storm this one out for balance. This would be a good start with contrast from what I've seen, many like to adjust there monitor settings to help. Even more so when looking down at the ground at someone.
-
That's even nicer that monitor..... It's Z35(P) the Acer Predator Z35P (3440x1440 100 Hz) Still under the 4K. Is that like 3K lol. It's all messed up that 4K business. vs Z35 UXGA (2560x1080) I wouldn't mine that Z35(P) for an upgrade. It's 1000 bucks here tho...

Another 2080TI Bites The Dust.....
David OC replied to Tinkickef's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Seems a little strange...? If it is the power in your area, perhaps use a UPS to protect the system. Reminds me, I need to replace the one a work. I guess you could test for that, if your seeing big power fluctuations in HWMonitor. -
We know all this nighthawk2174 and it's been around the forums a few times. Conclusions and Recommendations Quote "Certainly, such a method could also be used to “magnify” simulated ground images or other targets that a pilot needs to observe or “target” from long distances. Furthermore, this should reach beyond the realms of flight simulation to other types of simulation, whether it is a simulated medical surgery or a consumer video game. When the resolution of a system cannot provide the necessary detail for an object of a given size, it appears that, up to a point, size can be enhanced to compensate for this, yet the realism of the simulation need not be negatively affected. There are certainly limits to how much size enhancement can occur and still appear realistic." End Quote This paper is talking about fixed training simulators and adjustments for them and that setup. Now how does ED implement a solution here? How many different setups and resolutions are we talking about here? How does this work with competitive multiplayer and VR? That's what you also have to do here. Take a step back and look the bigger picture and how it can be implement without being gamey. From 1080p to 4k 24 inch to 4K tv, projector and VR. ED's right in the middle ground here now perhaps? If you go anyway more, some will throw up there arms because "It's way easier if you have a 65 inch 4K tv" etc. I don't have 2k to spend on a tv to be more competitive, example etc.

Hi Jason, First up you cannot use a 2nd GPU that way and sli doesn't really work with DCS. Good old PCyou have there, she has had it's day tho and I would build a new one. Are you building this or buying off the shelf? Are you in the USA? "Monitors: Acer GD235HZbid 1080p 120hz 24" x3" 1. That monitor has a really big bezel. (The edge around it) Will not sit tight together at all. 2. To run 3 monitors you are going to need a bit of a beast to get good frames and eye candy. That's 1920 x 3 = 5760 How about going wide screen at 2K (2560x1080) and G-Sync Acer Predator Z35 bmiphz 35 for an example only. That would suit a 2070 super much better and could run high settings @ 60 fps. I run a 2560 x 1440p NOT 4K only 2K so I can hold 60 fps with max game settings and that's with a 1080ti to give you some idea of the power needed just at 1440P. That's the sweet spot for a combat sim (60 fps) Unless you just fly slow in choppers all day. Now just for some examples, as many of us here build pc's part by part to save money and buy better parts etc. Sorry Demon, Yes they would have crap PSU's:P See these company's always go cheap on the psu's. New gif meme for you Demon:smilewink: Blue team Intel $1549 CyberPowerPC - Gaming Desktop - Intel Core i9-9900K - 16GB - GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER - 2TB HDD + 512GB SSD Red team AMD $1199 CyberPowerPC - Gaming Desktop - AMD Ryzen 7 3700X - 16GB - GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER - 2TB HDD + 240GB SSD The AMD needs a larger SSD or an extra one added and you need DCS on the SSD drive. You really need 500GB as DCS gets larger. I'm at 150 GB. (Use your Samsung SSD 840 EVO 1TB) Would be nice to have a better psu, Also 32gb of ram, especially if your going multiplayer. Don't know how accurate this is? 50% bottle neck. i7 2600K with 2070 super. Possibly about right, maybe a little less. Like 40% https://pc-builds.com/calculator/Core_i7-2600K/GeForce_RTX_2070/0e012xlO/

OK to assume 60hz is fine for flight simulation?
David OC replied to Cavemanhead's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hold 60 fps is the sweet spot for flight sims. Fast combat sims especially... I have a 144hz G Sync monitor set to 120hz, Sim locked at 60 fps lol. This is because of TRack IR, it doesn't like to get between 60 and 120 fps. Locking it to one of these makes for much better and smoother panning. G Sync can still help I believe, more noticeable in large MP sessions. -

Best monitors for flight sim in DCS
David OC replied to Raven1606688515's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Have you researched TV's too lol. If I was to upgrade my screen, I might go a good TV perhaps? That would be great for choppers, 65 inch and correct FOV would just about be full scale in front of you. They are all getting close to being a monitors themselves these days. The latest LG even having Gsync G-SYNC on LG OLED That will set you back 2K tho https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lg-65-class-oled-c9pua-series-2160p-smart-4k-uhd-tv-with-hdr/6338500.p?skuId=6338500 In your budget LG - 65" Class - LED - Nano 9 Series https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lg-65-class-led-nano-9-series-2160p-smart-4k-uhd-tv-with-hdr/6339241.p?skuId=6339241 Not sure if that's the best one for gaming? Samsung - 55" Class - LED - Q70 Series - 2160p You would need to ask around to see what the best one would be for your budget. There is the NVIDIA TV's, these are a little expensive tho. They run at G-Sync and a 144Hz refresh rate. When it comes to TV's, you need to find the one with the lowest input lag. -
FlightSim Junkie - Mission Editor Tutorials
David OC replied to David OC's topic in Mission Editor Tutorials
Here I add a waypoint switch for the enemy aircraft that will stay and repeat it's set waypoints until out of fuel and return to base. You still decide when this aircraft will go weapons free. I also setup a cold war border with a very deadly SAM system. This will be a lot harder than your used to possibly and showing what it would be like to face a very cunning enemy. Download this mission to try it FlightSim_Junkie_Mission_Tutorial_3.miz I recommend you build something for yourself to practice using the editor. Place it in your mission folder C:UsersYOUR USER PC NAMESaved GamesDCS [ver: openbeta etc] Missions I will expand on this in the next video. -
FlightSim Junkie - Mission Editor Tutorials
David OC replied to David OC's topic in Mission Editor Tutorials
Add a simple trigger to your mission so you can practice dogfighting with fox 2's etc. Here I add a simple trigger so you can decide when the enemy will go weapons hot. That way you can position yourself in many different positions and try different things for A2A practice. As you can see you are doing a small amount of logic coding within the DCS editor. You can create very dynamic situations with just this logic alone and the tools / options within the editor itself. Many campaigns are built just with the editors tools. You can also expand on this with scripting in lua. (More on this later) -
Setting up a quick mission in DCS with all the aircraft you have bought. Put them all in the same mission. Set them all to skill level (client) This way you can choose which one to fly all in the one mission at the start. The others will not spawn in. You can change to a different aircraft whenever you want. By hitting escape and choose a different slot/aircraft. You can even put as many of the same aircraft in the mission. One air start, one hot start, one cold start etc. Other things in this video How to set up drone aircraft for practice (Weapon Hold) 3:40 How to force unlimited weapons for this mission 6:25

Hi Wolf333, A good way to setup one mission with all the aircraft you have, is to put them all in the same mission. Set them all to skill level (client) This way you can chose which one to fly all in the one mission at the start. The others will not spawn in. You can change to a different aircraft whenever you want. By hitting escape and chose a different slot/aircraft. You can even put as many of the same aircraft in the mission. Please fix ground unit pathfinding / performance
David OC replied to Sapper31's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
Reminds me of another point too. Make sure that everyone in Tac command has a decent stable connection to the server (Stable not ping), it seems to only take one in tac (Driving or not) to start the lag warping. If it stays bad get everyone in Tac to disconnect and reconnect to stabilize the syncing again. I guess this needs a bit more work on ED's side to buffer this out when there is an unstable connection between clients / server. -
Please fix ground unit pathfinding / performance
David OC replied to Sapper31's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
I'm hoping this will come with the new engine with the vulkan api added to it. If this is the case it wont be real soon I'm guessing. The way to fix this for now is to make sure the guy's using it stay on the roads as much as possible. The mouse cursor turns green when you click a road. Max say 20 miles at a time. Once inside 10 miles go off road and limit movement to a few clicks only out to about 2 miles max. Don't spam click. Each click is a new full path calculation. Make sure there are no 50 mile off road way points. That has to be plotted by the pc and kills a sever. It's better to limit access to the commander spots. Like the DDCS server, I.E You have to know what your doing and not crash the server. If you can do that, you can have huge battles. I've been in battles 4 vs 4 commanders driving tanks and sam's + 15 to 20 aircraft all fighting no problems. It was on a PC server like my build + gigabit fiber. The pictures are only showing the Red side units. -
Man intel is losing the plot or what? Getting a little scared perhaps, after sitting on top for so long and now have nothing to go against AMD's tech. Not allowing comparisons and moved the launch back behind AMD's already public announced launch. The bean counters seem to be grasping. Linus and jayztwocents gives it to them in their latest vids. Looking forward to checking out the new AMD Threadripper On the 25th. 16-core, 32-thread Ryzen 9 3950X 7nm Zen 2 microarchitecture, and they feature a total of 72 usable PCIe 4.0 lanes.

Line 8 2019-11-27 22:12:38.514 INFO DCS: CPU cores: 4, threads: 8, System RAM: 16334 MB, Pagefile: 5083 MB Page file is only 5083 MB That's only 5 GB page file. Try letting windows handle it, or set it to 16000 MB (16GB) or 32000MB (32GB) MP takes more ram + the running of windows and all the things you have open etc.

Cool system enjuku:thumbup: Water AIO on the CPU? Not going for the i9 9900(K) chip? You could give it a little bump, guess it's not really needed when it can max at 5Ghz? It's base is only set at 3.10 Ghz Not sure if giving it a little push would help here? BitMaster or someone might know. ED should be sponsored buy Intel / NVIDIA The amount of dollars that go's through this section of the forum, just to get the best experience in DCS. I guess the VR thing is really the one pushing even more here. DCS is possibly one of the best VR experiences out there.

She needs a little love'n for sure. It's still fun and I've had some huge air ground battles online that were very fun, when there are many online. I'm talking 4 to 5 on each side in Tac command jumping around, driving sam's and tanks. Shooting down player aircraft and tanks battles. Or just playing around online too. Pulled off this shot online....:) Now that would scare the crap out of you.

I would worry too much about the drivers / shutters going with an AMD and VR. I would go Rift S possibly. I still have the CV1, so I have other VR games I play also with it from time to time that are on the oculus store. Just waiting to see if there is another big leap in VR tech, so I'll just keep my CV1 for now I guess.
