I'm having a hard time enforcing precise control over the aircraft's collective. I'm using the X52 Pro HOTAS. Even with the resistence knob turned all the way down, I find that it still takes a significant amount of force to move the throttle back and forth (collective up/down). This means I can't really input precise small corrections of the collective. Instead it's usually small, inaccurate "bumps" as I push on the throttle until it suddenly finally lurches a little bit. I'm wondering, other than more elaborate collective controllers (I've seen those being sold online, but I can't afford the thousands of dollars that those cost), does anybody use any other form of control over the collective? I was thinking maybe trying to map the collective axis to one of the rotary uh... button things on the X52 Pro Throttle, or even to the scrolling wheel?

Just take off from the run-way first :P

why it bounce like that so unrealistic? AI don't use same AFM as player?

I asked the same question a few months ago. The answer was that it's impossible to bind that particular command to anything on your mouse.

You can speed up time during long flights with ctrl+z. Return it to normal with shift+z (and you can slow down time with alt+z). This should help you complete your missions in one sitting :)

Read the sticky here http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=114030 It will tell you how you can download the module using the updater.

So what was the newest version that it worked properly in? I'd like to downgrade for now.

It's this switch circled in red. It's has two states - on and off.

Thanks, guys! These really helped me :) Especially the heading information when going in for a landing, although I'm still not sure how to gauge my distance travelled from an arbitrary point. Another question I had is taking out main battle tanks like the T-90. Is the Kh-25ML the only weapon up to the task? I have tried with both the S-80KOM rockets and the S-13OF rockets, but the S-80KOM don't seem to do enough damage or be accurate enough to score hits, and same for the S-13OF, which also have the problem that there's much less of them to shoot. I'm guessing I should also try bombs, but for that I'd have to overfly the tank, and I've been told that's a very bad thing to do, no?

I don't know if anyone's recorded themselves going through the in-game training missions and put it up, but there are many other tutorial videos available that you can go through. Check out the sticky in this forum for tutorials, and also search youtube for DCS A-10C Tutorial. There's lots.

I noticed most other forums have a similar thread to conglomerate questions into one place, so I hope nobody minds me starting one here. I'm starting to have lots of small quick questions about this module and would feel rather silly creating a new thread for each! So here are some random questions: 1. Is it possible to assign the wheel breaks to my rudder pedals? In the axis assign in controls, there's nothing for wheel breaks, and in the area where the wheel breaks are, you can only use a button and it doesn't allow an axis for it. 2. What is the recommended cruising speed/rpm? 3. What is the maximum speed of the airplane? I notice that at around 900 the airplane starts to shake, and soon after that it can even dramatically pitch down and it's hard to bring it back into control at this point. 4. I'm having a hard time dropping speed on landing approach. I have to always deploy my speed breaks to bleed off enough speed before I touch down, but I've always seen other people employ speed breaks only AFTER they touch down. I line up for the strip about 20km out, drop my throttle and begin to descend. But since I'm descending I'm not dropping enough speed. Any advice? Should I just line up even further away? Is there a preferred engine RPM setting for landings? 5. Speaking of landings, I'm confused about the instructions I get from the ATC when I request first "inbound" and then "landing". When I use "inbound" over the radio, the tower responds with some numbers that I don't understand and can't find any reference to in the manul. Something like "Heading 335 for 20, QFE 29.8". What do these mean? I've mostly ignored these. Also most of the time when I go in for landing and request landing I get a response of something like "something visual, contact tower" (sorry I'm vague, I'm at work and don't remember exact things they say". What does that mean? Then shortly after it tells me to "orbit for spacing", because apparently there's another aircraft going in for landing in front of me? How can that be? This is a single player mission that I created just to practice take off, navigation and landing, and I have civilian traffic turned off in the options. ((I'll fly the mission again and jot down exactly what they say when I come home)). 6. Deploying flaps for landing pitches the plane up dramatically. Of course it does, I understand, but my problem is losing control of my attitude during this time. Is there something I should do to improve on this other than practice? I don't want to pre-emptively pitch down when I lower flaps, but at the same time I guess I'm too slow on my reactions to push the stick forward when the plane pitches up? How is it done in real life? Or at least, how should it be done in this sim?

Is there a proper technique to trimming?
guitarxe replied to guitarxe's topic in Su-25 for DCS World
Thanks, guys, I really appreciate it! I've tried setting trim more gradually, and testing each time, like you suggested, and this has worked much better now! I am sure with more practice I can become even better at it :) About the phugoid mode. I've read the article on it on wikipedia and have a basic understanding what it is, but the article doesn't mention how an aircraft enters this state, or what to do about it. From what I understand, this is a state the aircraft will enter by itself depending the aircraft's aerodynamic properties, and not because the pilot did something wrong, correct? I also understand that eventually the aircraft will leave this state and resume level flight, in which case the pilot should do nothing about it? Or is there something I should do? Because it seems to me if I try to correct pitch during this state it will only serve to make it worse? Like trying to rock a boat that's already rocking from the waves underneath it? -
Like the man quoted says, this does seem like fire caused by having your throttles not set to idle, as explained in the manual:
-
I take off, establish a level flight, and now try to trim. In this particular example I have to push the stick forward in order to keep a level flight, so I press on the trim down button several time (or rather, I hold it down), until the aircraft begins to pitch down. At this point I start to move the stick slowly back to neutral position while still applying trim, hoping that I can match the rate of pitch change from the trimmer with the rate of pitch change from the stick, until the point where the stick is in neutral and the pitch from the trimmer is now enough to keep me level. However, that never seems to work out for me. I either end up overshooting and applying too much trim, or I end up moving the stick back to neutral before there is enough trim and the airplane pitches up. What's even worse is that, if I make any changes to the aircraft, such as increase/decrease thrust or make a turn, I now have to again re-adjust my trim. In other words, I'm a complete newbie to flying and would like to know if there are some kind of established techniques to proper use of trim, or maybe some tips on how to go about doing it. I've flown the A-10C and the KA-50 modules of DCS and they both have autopilot that can stabilise your flight for you, so I'm not used to manually trimming all the time and seem to be very bad at it.

Keyboard Commands Not Working.. amongst other things
guitarxe replied to Dogman's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
You have downloaded and installed the drivers for your hardware, right? -
So from reading manuals of several aircraft in DCS, it seems like all of them are capable of showing the true indicated airspeed by taking into account air density and humidity changes with altitude and all that. However on cockpit instruments, it is the indicated airspeed that is more prominent and on the HUD you see IAS only. So how come? Why does it seem like IAS is a more important indicator for pilots than the actual true airspeed?

Question about tutorials, both in-game and out
guitarxe replied to guitarxe's topic in Su-25 for DCS World
Ohhh, I was searching for DCS SU-25. Probably that's why I couldn't find these. I'll take a look at those, thanks! -
Hey, guys, could you please take it off the forums, into PMs or something? Here we have a nice topic discussing manpads with lots of wonderful and helpful information, and then we have you two going at each other's throats.

Question about tutorials, both in-game and out
guitarxe replied to guitarxe's topic in Su-25 for DCS World
Do you happen to have saved a link? I have searched youtube for SU-25 tutorials but haven't seen any from ED. I also can't find these. I found the ones for the KA-50, but not for the SU-25 -
I've seen a lot of videos where the camera moves down a bit to have a better look at lower panels. Now I have no idea how people are able to do this, because I don't have a neck like a turtle! <p>I can only move my head down maybe a few centimeters by sort of shrugging down, so I'm really interested in how people are able to accomplish this?
-
They are all in a similar location as what AndyJWest pointed to for the P-51. i.e, in DCS World\Mods\aircrafts\[name of aircraft you want]\Doc You will also find some other useful documentation in there, like charts and stuff.
-
If I download the training for the SU-25, what should I expect? Is it going to be very low-quality videos with no possibility to rewind or move around like it is for the SU-25T? Also, are there any other tutorials I could rely on to learn? I've seen some on youtube, but those only deal with flying the aircraft, navigating. None of them actually show how to employ weapons. And speaking of employing weapons, exactly how does one actually fly a combat mission in the SU-25? For example, if you were in an A-10C you would fly at a pretty high altitude, and stay far far away from your targets. Most air defences should have been cleared by the time you were called in, so should not have a lot of worry then. If there are any around you target you use your long-range missiles (mavericks I think?) to take them out, then bomb the hell out of those tanks. Any heavier air defences you can call in a SEAD flight to take care of it. But for the SU-25... you ARE the SEAD/DEAD flight. How should you be flying?
-
Might be a dumb question, but are you pushing the stick 10% forward or 10 degrees forward?
-
Oh, it looks like the video started playing in 3D mode somehow. Sorry, bud!
