It is so interesting that US pilots so often input the wrong settings, the ground crews set the wrong settings, the warehouse personnel mishandles the missiles etc etc etc... But it is never like a weapon is a not working by a design... Yeah you’re not really analyzing what happened here. It is the first time western aircraft engaged eastern bloc aircraft that had a credible forward quarter shot, and the F-14 crews by this point were used to doing some turns with the Libyans but not being engaged. So yes the RIO was full of adrenaline but trying to do the recommended out distance face shot. We still do not have all details of this engagement. A third AIM-7 from this jet killed the Flogger head-on. We don’t know the condition of the AWG-9 or the condition of the weapons stations. Yes human error is largely a factor in missed opportunities but this was not a practiced setup. Once you’ve tasted combat you can comment on how it’s curious that human nature plays a factor

The AIM-54C needs the same cooling. The AIM-54C+ does not need cooling.

Yep I made a mistake regarding corner and g- I should have left it to bleed and acceleration- but that's just another way of discussing the same things. If you guys buy the acceleration and energy retention, very well. I was hoping to drop like a rock to build it back up.
-
anything on dive acceleration or am I out to lunch as well? Thanks all for the responses.
-
Yeah that's not what Im talking about- we can all ham fist 12g and snap the wings. Go fight the MiG-29 and try to keep your energy with corner at low altitude and weight....also note your speed at the start of a dive and the end....now compare to a Harrier diving with vectored thrust as forward as it will go..... If you can explain why ~54k lbs of thrust (less at low speed and high altitude) doesn't affect ~60k of weight the way it ought to Im all ears. I'm no ace at all. Just give me a TACview file of you clean at angels 10 and angels 5 holding corner speed at 6.5g without bleeding off huge. If you can show me this, thread deleted.

I get the trolling, really I do. I don't expect this to be an easy jet to fly. But I should drop like a rock- the sim does not do 0g acceleration well at all- that's not an F-14 thing- that's apparently a game engine thing. Try flying smart with 0g maneuvers when you can get it and snapping to the bandit instead of a constant 2-3g lag pursuit follow when you get position.....you'd expect some acceleration......but not really. This makes sense if I'm loaded with weapons and gas, and maybe at a spot where my DECUs are limiting the thrust so I don't hurt the motor function, but what is the F-14 known for...…? She can dive and she can retain energy pretty decent- especially at low altitude and weight where you aren't ham fisting the controls.....I just don't see it. game engine or F-14 FM, I need something affected a bit more by this strange force of by 9.2 meters/second^2. -current truck driver

5k, 10k- anywhere but the deck

I would like to be able to accelerate when pointing down at the dirt in full afterburner during ACM at less than 2g but the jet says " NO, I don't weigh anything". I think our F-14B has a slight identity crisis. The F-14 also bleeds speed horrendously at corner speed at anything over 4g -despite clean and low weight. Yes we are Beta, I do not expect a fix NOW, just hoping this is getting the attention it needs.

Ive had 23 mile kills with the AIM-7M in the F/A-18.

F-14 engine sounds have nothing to do with camping....... (dads around the world howl with laughter)

I may have- Wags stated in a podcast interview that modules are checked whenever possible against EM charts and other material to ensure it can't be used as a training device for military application. That's a paraphrase. If I'm off please correct.
-
this sim will not match any EM chart of a currently used military aircraft as stated by Wags in an interview- it will be as close as they can but not match. That being said, 330kts depending on altitude and weight.

He's got all his thumbs and toes now. I only knew him on the tomcat sunset forums.

I will have to wait until Friday to download and enjoy it. But I will enjoy a drink for your benefit on a job well done. Thank you HB.

First thing to do on the evening of the 12th
turkeydriver replied to Kazius's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
1) ensure mustache exists and is ready 2) have a glass of scotch 3) remind the wife how awesome she is to have you via vigorous bedroom activity. 4) smoke a pipe 5) go to bed Wake up with coffee and realize I’m gonna need an hour on the deck before I can even taxi the beast lol -
Ordnance....:..

You cannot ignore the generational differences, though I agree in a benign environment, age has not bearing on one's sense of entitlement, only ignorance does. It is widely known and proven, that we are provided most of all of our wants readily. I remember how excited I was when an aircraft book I wanted was available for checkout at the library. Two weeks meant two weeks of anticipation, not 2 weeks of fits. I will admit though that last week while on the back porch after 3 rather heavy drinks, I did text some friends wondering "where's my (expletive) F-14?" Soon, go back to NATOPS, enjoy the F-18 and F-5, and get ready to lose a ton of ACM fights for the next months, until you get some hours under your belt. Also, take an oath not to cry about the way it handles in ACM, its not an F/A-18, not an F-15, and needs rudder love.

No- it’s the same pod other than an internal GPS unit. The other pod on the F-15E and Block 40 F-15C is a TFR pod. That’s it. So the F-14 doesn’t have TFR. AAQ-25 is the name of the system after the LANTIRN 40k upgrade
-
Aggressor= USAF reds Adversary = USN reds Marines just need an excuse to shoot weapons at something, it doesn’t need a name.
-
TOPGUN itself actually had a few F-14Bs for a period of about 8 months or something like that.

Ordnance = weapons Ordinance = rule, law

Again, let me remind everyone I am not a former Tomcat pilot- turkeydriver has just been my online handle since the Falcon 4 Delphi forums. The tomcat does have issues with weight aft, if you're going out against unknown air threat on the opening day of a campaign- I wouldn't take more than the 2 big AIM-54s, 3 AIM-7 and a pair of AIM-9s. Only take 4 AIm-54s if you are expecting a bomber threat against your carrier.

AIM-9 and AIM-7 on the gloves. AIM-54s impose a huge drag penalty and maneuver penalty on the gloves. 2 AIM-54 forward in the tunnel impose no maneuver limits and little drag
