  1. Twenty-two months after the announcement.........any status update at all?
  2. Yes big radars can cook you quick- mere weather radars on airliners have interlocks to prevent from radiating on the ground.....and for the latest big VA news, fighter pilots are apprently dropping like flies in their 50s from aggressive cancers......while radar operation in fighters isnt new, these guys would have been flying the long missions in OEF and OIF- and continuous exposure even while in a protected cockpit means something. The MiG-25 radar is extremely powerful- not in range but in TX power- so that its burn through range is closer to maximum than many others- many sources speak of the radar killing rabbits on test ranges during testing.
  3. It is- those are VF-124 jets in Miramar!
  4. C variant needs it......C+ does not.
  5. Yeah I know.
  6. Yeah that's an AWG-9/AIM-54 design spec. As long as you're in TWS and the targets are drastically spaced and at drastically different directions and airspeeds you can do that inside of...60nm I think? Don't remember the max range of muti-bogey TWS shots. Once you fired, if you immediately broke radar lock and turned away- that's the only way they would be considered fire and forget...and they are like that inside of 12 miles.
  7. To be clear, the engine performance was adjusted, not the aircraft performance. IT dogfights as well as the pilot controlling it. I think your question is better stated as" Do the engines provide more thrust at 200-300 knots and does the aircraft accelerate better from low speed when unloaded....."
  8. Did the D not have the plumbing for early AIM-54? Or could it carry A-C+?
  9. Stations 1 and 7 have a huge maneuvering and drag penalty - try dogfighting with those loaded. 2 forward on the belly.
  10. The weight of the F-14 and F-15 really comes into play in DACT and though they do cool stuff they really eat up fuel quickly here. F-16s and F-18s frequently were healthier with fuel at the end of the fight.
  11. I think TWS auto is borked at the moment and the AI works well with a pilot but not another crew. Probably easiest to point your jets and tell jester to lock your nose and then prosecute death via Mach 5 buffalos.
  12. EAK-3s and S-3s and KA-6Ds could hand off more fuel for the fighter guys and every jet on the carrier at that point had long legs. The F-18 at that time was thought to be anemic, although we have adapted to it. Believe it or not in the 1970s and early 80s the F-14 was the shortest legged jet on the carrier! The F-18 showed up and aerial refueling was prioritized around the new strikers as it was much more necessary- the F-14 adapted by always carrying tanks.
  13. in the 70s and 80s- not always- but always when combat was imminent and always from the 90s on.
  14. F-14 maneuver flaps moves both the slats and flaps- the flaps to a lesser degree IIRC.
  15. yes they are mapped on the warthog stick in the right location. You should give yourself just a bit- it doesn't give a HUGE benefit- but a few degrees. Landing flaps actually fights your nose position because of how the wing generates lift with full flaps- you can fly slower but don't try to get your nose high. Get Aerodynamics for Naval Aviators and read about flaps and what the different types do. You'll learn a lot.
  16. Lets all defend the validity of our microcosmic viewpoints on the subject...….this jet will happen if we available data can be used to sim the APG-71 and IRST- also needs to sim the AIM-54C+, since the F-14D carried them and they have their own onboard cooling vice the jets.
  17. yeah youre not using them right. Dogfight flaps should be your joystick thumb switch(the one you push for DLC) use it forward and back for slight incriments in flaps/slats. Also useful if taking off from shore very heavy. Landing flaps are only ever landing flaps- though some crazies in the 1980s used them to just about stop the jet in mid-air, it should break. Never use your landing flap switch if doing anything besides landing.
  18. I should have completely read the posts- wasn't thinking about pulse STT modes.
  19. absolute range and to see what dots are out there without getting any real info on them.
  20. …..BTW Navy aircraft do not have drop tanks...., They're AUX tanks, and you better have a REALLY good reason for ever jettisoning them. They are limited in supply and spares take up a LOT of room on the ship.
  21. All of our Phoenix in the game require coolant correct? We don't have the AIM-54C+ ECCM sealed. The forward pallets carry the coolant IIRC- might be all, but that adds to weight a bit.
  22. I want them all as well, AFTER ED FIXES THEIR MISSILE CODE.
  23. The F-15C in DCS has undermodelled engines despite whatever they claim. The F-14B should smoke everyone, but the F-15C should start catching it. The F-15E is a beast on the deck- especially the -129 powered jets. If they are clean they can just about supercruise on the deck.
  24. I thought after this patch I could accelerate better and get back some energy lol. Maybe less thrust but better acceleration?
  25. Victory thanks for chiming in, guess that guys name is mud.....
