F-15C Dynamic Campaign: Screaming Eagle
John C Flett replied to MBot's topic in User Created Missions General
I ran the first mission and got the script error that was reported earlier. I've amended the.cmp and the camp_init.lua as described. However when I test the mission and end it I go straight to the campaign failure screen. Any suggestions on what I've done wrong? Nevermind, I figured it out, just a different version of a problem mentioned earlier. Wait until the mission score updates then quit. Looking forward to trying this out properly now. -
if 1.5.8 is the latest then yes, but I've not had any problems with AI apart from that wingman crash. Could be it caused the text and sound to get mixed but that was purely cosmetic so not too big an issue. This close to the merge I'm not sure a rollback is worth the effort but I'll keep an eye on it's behaviour thanks.

Not sad. Just an excuse to play it again later.
-
Actually, that was still 1.5 I'm playing. I'm holding off to 'til the official release. Really enjoying it and just about to fly the next mission.

Just played mission 8 and had a lot of problems with messages that were out of sequence or incorrect. A large part of this was my own fault, I flew the final loop the wrong way round, but it was still confusing. Two that were wrong though; between WP 2 and WP 3 I got a text message about a German convoy and "don't know what my grandfather would think" but no sound. Later when Sluggy comes in for the pickup the text reported coming in and the Kamovs pointing their guns but the soundfile was "Meatboy, roger engaging over". Also, no reflection on the mission, but I lost Meatboy about halfway when he flew into a mountain. The mission still played out fine though. Really enjoying this campaign.

Don't know about this mission in particular but a common problem in training missions is clicking too fast for the mission trigger to recognise. Try holding the enter button down for about a second. I can verify that I completed this mission within the past couple of weeks and it was working in 1.5.

I'm just getting to grips with the Gazellle and was having problems. Can you help clarify this for me. Are the selectors not working in any way or only in the clickable cockpit? I've got them tied to my throttle thumb controller and they show in the radio menu; UHF, VHF AM and VHF FM, but I've been unable to talk to my airbase or FARP. I'd figured I was doing something wrong. So which radio should I be using? Never mind. I'd tuned it but forgot to set it to transmit. All working now.

You've pretty much got it there. "Combat Flight Simulators" is perhaps more common to describe the latter as you can still simulate military aircraft in civil sims.

Pretty sure I don't have Flanker anymore but still have my copies of Flanker 2 and LOMAC boxed up somewhere along with my old Microprose titles. Honestly though, I never gave Flanker or Falcon 4 the time they deserved when they were new. It was only much later when I'd reached a point where I had the time and patience to really learn them, probably around Flaming Cliffs 2 I guess.

Which eyetracking device
John C Flett replied to BlueMax's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Either a cross between a pancake and a waffle or, nonsense talk. Take your pick. -
I got the A10C manual from Doxdirect. The only issue I had was that it was too long for the format I wanted so I had them split it into two manuals. I do seem to recall a few times I've had errors about the font but never actually had any issues with the printing.
-
Bobby, I'm in the UK and I use a company called Doxdirect. Just upload the files and they have a range of print options available. Pricing is pretty reasonable if you don't go for large formats and colour. I'm sure you can find options where you are without the need for somebody to have already set it up. I do suggest you give it a try as a physical manual is so much nicer and more practical.

He says "Don't delay doing, you know, something creative, cause usually getting creative doesn't help you". Meaning, "don't waste your time by doing something creative that isn't going to help." Hope that helps.

True, but interestingly, the smoke trail isn't from point of launch but only once in flight.
-
Need? That's the question. As long as these addons remain optional I'd say go for it. If the next Hip campaign requires the module to run I'd have a problem. For the time being though, I think this is an interesting direction and opens up a number of ways to develop DCS.

I had a similar experience with my wingman leaving a trail of giant balls of smoke behind him. Not all the time though so there seems to be some kind of conditional factor.

Spring Tension - mission 18 (help needed)
John C Flett replied to rge75's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
rge75, it's been a while since I played that mission so I can't quite remember where the ZSU was. What I did though, was give my wingman an "Attack Air Defence" command then watch where he went and followed him in, putting my attack in right behind his. I got lucky and got a hit in on first pass but I can imagine that this mission could be one you have try a few times. -
Finally flying but can't land

If I flew the Hip in Real Life I'd have taped the autopilot button down, the number of times I've had to reset it in flight. -
Finally flying but can't land
John C Flett replied to fargo007's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Keep at it Fargo. I probably had about 40 hours on the Hip before I started to feel reasonably happy with the landings. And I'd stress "reasonably". As said, vertical speed is the key, keep it below 5ms. The problem is that the main Vertical Speed Indicator can be slow to respond while the radar VSI fluctuates with changes in attitude and can give misleading readings. I love the Hip but I felt it was ( of the aircraft I've used ) the one that requires the most concentration, this is a bird that most wants to kill you, and landings are where it is most likely to get you. Have you run into the other problem I had, of trying to slow down and gaining hundred feet of altitude in the process? -
DCS World/Mods/Aircraft. All the aircraft have their own folders. Probably not worth the effort though, the TF-51 for example is only about 253 MB.
-
In the study modules like A-10C you have to wait. In FC3 modules I've never bothered and never had any problems. You should probably consider the three minutes optional unless they've updated it since I last flew the SU-27.

Chelseaman, there is a seperate thread for DLC Campaigns and one for Stone Shield. You're probably better posting there. I haven't played this campaign myself but I read about it and as I recall you need to make a scramble start-up. Get power on, engines running then move. Other systems can be powered up while moving and the nav system does an air-initialise. Slower but it gets your nav and targeting systems working once your safely off the ground. I may be mixing it up but your problem sounds like what I read when the campaign first came out.

DLC campaigns and repeating previous missions?
John C Flett replied to ozTRipwiRE's topic in Oilfield Campaign
Likewise, I don't have the campaign but that's pretty much the norm for DCS scripted campaigns. Why do you ask? If you're worried about getting stuck I always suggest playing campaigns as single missions. The only downside is they don't show as complete campaigns in your log but otherwise you can set your own pace and advance / retry as you see fit. -
Do you mean WWII era jets? I seem to remember that there are community mods ( 262 and Komet ) in the works but it's a limited field.

I finished it a little while back and it has problems. It's very trigger sensitive and easier to break than it should be. I'd strongly suggest playing it as individual missions rather than a campaign as several times I'm pretty sure I finished the mission but it never ended. Playing it as single missions means a success trigger to advance isn't a problem. It is also very much bare bones, minimal communication and sometimes misinformation ( at least two frequencies swapped in notes ). I felt though, that I was challenged to do things I hadn't done in the official campaign and fly with more care. I am certainly a better Hip driver as a result of playing these missions and for myself I'd say that was worth the price of admission.
