Plz reread what I wrote, Bit... Actually it was a (rethorical) question. But still a question I'd like to have an answer. Ah, and maybe take the time and read that wiki article, too...

Save some $ for modules, too :) Not that you end with hardware only, but you need to run on SU25 all time ;) And stuff like hotas, trackir, rudder pedals..

What monitor/resolution should I be looking at?
Hekktor replied to CL30's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Ok. MSI Afterburner with Riva tuner statistic server. Framerate and Frametime If you don't get frametime to a steady reading low of 20ms (got it down to 17.5 ms) the whole stuttering starts to happen. Worst thing is, if the frametime jumps up and down... With the RTSS I set the frame rate limit to 57, not 55, not 60. Only that get's me to that rock steady 17.5ms frame time and it also gets the whole thing into sync with my monitor! No tearing, no stutter, just freaking smooth regardless if I go down to 30ft or up to FL300. I was about to send this monitor back, for no matter what reason I didn't get it's free sync to run on my gtx1080. Just turns out that I don't need the damn stuff. That was a long run. Each and every game setting tested, what does it do eye candy wise, what impact on cpu/gpu, each and every nVidia inspector setting (worst documented pice of software ever in my live), even after I got to learn that setting with the riva tuner frame limiter - tried to do it with profile inspector doesn't work. I do not have any clue why... Uninstalled nvidia driver with ddu, reinstalled (mostly to get that !§$% freesync/g-sync to run - whole thing is obsolete to me!) Happy I am, now, 12h later ;) edit: Just reread that former posting about g-sync / freesync - as of now I would say - forget it... cpu i2500k sandy bridge @4.2, aircooled, 16Gb ram, gtx 1080, trackIr, uw screen -
Screen size for 1:1 cockpit representation

Screen size for 1:1 cockpit representation
Hekktor replied to plehmann's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I forgot where to set the standard(?) FOV. Think of a lua file where one should be able to set it since I can't find anything in the standard settings. Any got an idea which lua file? -
I don't know what the fps counter is counting. It is not frames as per definition like a full picture. If it would be than everything better than 20 of 25 fps would be enough. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frame_rate this is why I call it 'nonsense' nowadays. Otherwise we would have fluent game experience if we had 30FPS+ all the time. It is not. If any of you can give me a better definition on fps or what that number is telling me I would be glad.

And frame-time. The very much reason for stuttering even on 60+ fps. OK, got that UW 1600p thing. Not as big as expected, in total. Few inches higher than my former 1440p. Much more screen real estate. The curviness is a bit strange atm, but I get used to it more and more. Position in cockpit locks a bit closer(!) than it used to be. Think i have to figure to tune the standard view angle to a wider aspect. It's a new free sync LG monitor - but I don't get it g-synced atm. From what I read with the new 417.71 driver I had installed freesync should be compatible but for what ever reason I don't get it to run as of yet (dp 1.2, driver, set it to ON on the monitor, yadayada, already talked to nvidia support, the want to email me if the figure out what might be the reason). The thing runs super smooth on my gtx1080. The better peripheral view is amazing for the all over immersion. -
Guys if you run video capturing at the same time you are on ANOTHER PLANET.

Same boat here, still on i2500K@4.2GHz But - as stated above - new cpu architecture is more efficient, in processing the same tasks. Then again DCS can't be parallelized as easy as the all times mentioned video editing software. It has to wait for so many times on new input, new results and stuff, it is very linear. Much of the recent new CPU stuff is of getting more and more CORES into one chip - a thing DCS does not make use of much... Because of this I do believe, single thread performance is the most important factor to find a good cpu for dcs. Like: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html -> best bang for the buck atm from what I do read there: i9600k And this is, why I do refuse to buy AMD for DCS. Single thread wise AMD can not compete to intel, but imho this for DCS is most important. Personally I will wait for intel to get this 10nm process running, hopfully next year. Have been waiting for it to happen 3(?) years now so one more doesn't matter. With gtx1080 I still can run DCS 60+ FPS(besides fps is a almost nonsense figure..) on UW1600p.
-
I just recently went from 1440p to 1600p ultra wide. I don't quite get why one would need very high (60+?) frame rates for DCS? We do need consistent frame times to avoid stutter. This is much more important than fast fps. Old movies are projected 24 or 25 pictures a second. 30FPS with consistant fame times, synced to the monitor at all times and situations in the game (regardless of head motion / view direction altering) would be enough imho. Personally I much better like the ultra wide screen real estate over some stutter from time to time - immersion wise I have a better feeling of sitting in a cockpit. (I don't like VR for various reasons)

nvidia 417.71 display driver WHQL
Hekktor replied to Mustang's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Does it work with win7? I got the 417.71 nVidia driver installed but don't have that monitor setting in nVCP... -
Ah and regarding the benefits of syncronising monitor and graphics card, what happens when you dont, why tripple buffering might be a good idea from time to time:

Quote from Natural point: "TrackIR is also a great option because it has a processor built in to the tracking unit, which means that all data processing and head movement translation calculating is done on the device itself: this means there is no performance hit on your system as this data is streamed into the TrackIR software." You can say that proves nothing, but this is one point why I am so septic. But. How is TrackIR software connected to the DCS software? TrackIR can deliver its data every 5ms. This is 0,005s, 60Hz is 0,0167s TrackIR is almost 3x faster then the 60Hz monitor. I still don't get the connection, then again many of you are rock steady on that there system IS influenced by TrackIR...

Just found that nice video, I think is quit well made on vsync. My actual monitor does not have but my next WILL have g- or freesync. -

I know of so many star forum gurus you can't count of. There is a million ppl telling me the earth is flat. Today. But maybe I am an idiot and you or this guru can help me. What is TrackIR's 120FPS sample rate. What does this numbers refers to, what parameter does it describe. If you can answer this, then plz elaborate. Then plz, explain the connection to the monitors refresh rate. Plz explain, when I was using TrackIR with my tube monitor, why was I able to use it. -
But still, this meme is spreading to other threads. TrackIR has nothing to do with your monitors refresh rate. Plz confirm. It might be that the opener did two things at the same time and coz he thought there might be a connection felt proven. This is not the case. TrackIR is an input device, that does not interfere with your graphics card output. There might be several other reasons that you find a good combination if you match your cards output of 60Frames to a monitors 60Hz refresh rate. TrackIRs 120FPS is the refresh of the TrackIRs infrared camera. Plz don not throw that into one basket.

And I tell it again - you are in no way restricted in your monitors refresh rate by TrackIR. You can repeat it as many times as you want - there is NO WAY that TrackIR can interfere to a monitors refresh rate. It is a hoax. -

Well, what is productive or not for you is your personal opinion. I just wanted to tell the opener of this thread, that the link you posted contains inconsistencies regarding the TrackIR sample rate in reference of the syncing of a graphics card output to the monitor refresh rate. The matter we are discussing here is complex enough. To find a good match between a modern graphics card and monitor is complex enough. Now you came with that TrackIR thing, what - as I stated in the thread you thrown in her, has nothing to do with what we do discuss in here. Plz keep it simple. That is not to say that if you want, and I do highly recommend it, use TrackIR, need a decend graphic card. But this is because when you use TrackIR you will change your view almost all time what causes the graphics card a lot of work. But it has nothing to do with the TrackIR sample rate of 120 camera pictures per second. It is just unlucky wording in the advertisement of TrackIR that they use the term 'FPS' to describe what the ir camera is able to deliver to the track IR software to determine the head position. And that information I do belive is productive. -

Belive me, I am testing alot. But lets discuss it in the thread you linked. This is for the monitor question. TrackIR is another thing. Input device. Monitor is output.. -.- -

Hekktor replied to CL30's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
But this is the other thread. That sync of monitor and graphics card is an issue. To reach 60fps to match the monitors 60Hz can be difficult. This is why the got this gsync/free sync, that you can match it lower than 60fps/Hz. We just need 25pictures / second. IF the rest is smooth. But there are these nasty interferene effects of stutter/tear if the ordinary monitors 60Hz frequency doesn't match what the card is able to throw at it. If the card can put out more frames - it is easy - sync it by limiting what the card can achive to 60frames/Hz. If the card can not deliver 60frames/s, one could go down to 30frames/s and sync it to 60Hz, same frame 2x at the monitor, wich still can run at 60Hz. Something like this. I will report my experience when I get this widescreen... -

Everyone else on the planet??? If you mean 85% of the internet, then yes. Copying mistakes 1000times at no cost does not make a mistake come true. Well at least that used to be the case. But the fact that copying or writing nonsense does not cost anymore, no time, no nothing doesn't make it better. This is where we are today. You have a hard time to prove 'the world' that they just copy a mistake. Ppl like to stay what they belive in first time. This is human behaviour. -

TrackIR works even well with 25Hz CRT. As I wrote in the other thread, TrackIRs 120FPS sample rate has nothing to do with the graphics card output to the monitor. -

Hekktor replied to CL30's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
But getting graphics card output matched vsnced to monitor refresh rate is of importance with all LED monitors. Was not an issue with older CRT monitors. Usually anything north of 30frames would be enough for a normal human not beening able to get single pictures faster than 25per second. Actually the speed most films had been shown in the movies, roughly 25pic/sec But a led with that low refresh would flicker, so you need a higher refresh rate. 60Hz is common.
