That is a Litening pod in the image above, not an ATFLIR. It is not used by the Navy only the Marines.

British Illustrious (HMS Victorious, Formidable) or Implacable-class (HMS Indefatigable) aircraft carriers which operated against targets in Norway during the summer of 1944 in concert with a bunch of escort carriers. They carried mainly Corsairs, Seafires and Hellcats as fighters and Barracuda dive bombers.

The heritage of UCLASS I think. They probably started working on these designs before it was canceled in favor of a tanker drone. By keeping a potentially stealthy shape they have more options later and it is cheaper than starting from scratch.

- A radial engined Fw-190 variant, preferably the late ground attack Fw-190F8/9 or Fw-190G8 fighter bomber that fit well into the the existing planeset. - F4U-4. I know M3LLC is already developing a F4U-1D, which will hopefully be released some day, but the late war F4U-4 would be a much better fit for the BF-109K and Fw-190D9 and it would be great for Korea scenarios with the MiG-15, F-86 and P-51. - A late twin engined fighter. P-38L, F7F, Mosquito

+1 I am surprised how good the paint on the aircraft is still looking after 70 years in sea water.
-
I doubt it, since they decided for the much more complex and capable AV-8B NA as their first Harrier module. The Gr.3 wouldn't offer anything new. Other than the Sea Harrier, which is historically just as significant, has a radar and could carry the Sea eagle anti ship missile. Though I would appreciate it to be proven wrong.

Most impressive indeed!

It's not a towed decoy. It's ejected from the same dispensers as chaffs and flares and works independently.

I hope the new map will include the entire shore line of the Persian Gulf, without any detail, just as the Caucasus map includes the entire shore line of the Black Sea.
-
+1 Due to the sparse habitation such a map would also be very useful to build some convincing WW2 missions. Especially since many suitable WW2 planes such as the I-16, F4U, AI Ju-88, Lancaster or Bf-109G6 are already in development.
-
Forum comments and the frequent Nevada + X sales certainly give me the impression that there a lot of people who will not just buy any new map. The Hornet will quickly become the most popular DCS aircraft, SOH will be the best map for carrier ops and there are already many campaigns available for the Blackshark or the A-10C.
-
As ED I would make a free campaign for the Strait of Hormuz map. Thus people would have an incentive to buy the map and generate extra sales to regain that investment.
-
Not interested in fictional maps either.
-
What about the JAS-39A? Entered service in the mid 90s and should be less advanced the EDs Hornet.

Current Asset Pack List (subject to change)
Cunctator replied to NineLine's topic in DCS: WWII Assets Pack
Modeling a Torpedo bomber Ju-88 would be a very good decision. All three groups of KG 26 were used with them against the Allied invasion fleets during the summer of 1944, before being send to Norway again. I hope someone will make a northern Norway map for DCS one day. The area saw years of fighting during WW2 and would be perfect for Cold War carrier based campaigns. -
Will this be a general engine improvement, effecting also 3rd party aircraft like the upcoming F4U, or something limited to ED's own projects?
-
Australian Hornets with double JDAMs on one the outboard pylons. I think the picture was taken during the recent anti IS operation Okra. Actually I've found a lot images showing such a loadout. For example on the most recent Marine Aviation Plan.

A question for Wags and or ED about the DCS: F/A-18C!
Cunctator replied to Spudknocker's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Does anybody remember that they already hoped to do an F/A-18 Add on next after the original LOMAC in 2003? I actually bought Lock On back than just in anticipation of it. Thus I am already waiting 15 years for it. -
High end add ons for the civil flightsims from various developers are similarly priced since a few years. Expected this, seems to be necessary to regain to the investment these days.
-
Finally! The F4U-1D in DCS. Cockpit and external model already look very good. Hopefully it will be not be too far behind the Christen Eagle.
-
Also the FAA had several Corsair squadrons and carriers based in Britain during the summer of 1944. Thus Corsairs over Normandy are no implausible scenario. Still I would prefer the F4U-4.

+1 People regularly seem to underestimate the size of full grown trees. This argument comes up again and again when discussing flightsims and other games. Everybody who thinks trees are overdone should have a walk outside and compare them next to some multi storey apartment building, so that their height can be easily judged.
-
That's not poor planing but the harsh consequences when developing highly complex add ons for a niche market. "Good" planning would be developing FC level aircraft or mobile games.

That bird still has the old tri color paint scheme. Aren't all Harriers are painted in gunship gray (FS 36118) over blue gray FS 35237 now (since 2010+? The Harrier II pilot working with Razbam wrote some ago on reddit that all NA planes are now just used for training and not longer on deployments.
