  1. 99.99% sure this is not implemented in DCS. It'll just fly dumb and scan for targets.
  2. I think they messed with the EW modeling in the background. A couple years back it was pretty consistent, HPRF you could see almost anything up to 60 miles unless it was beaming or cold. MPRF worked anywhere inside ~ 25 miles. Now it seems to be super random and you can see things at 30 miles or further in MPRF sometimes. The old rules still work as a general guide but you run into weird things far more often than before. I've been following most of the changes but I don't recall any official change being made, so not really sure, but seems rather obvious that something changed.
  3. This thing is absolutely mental! I just unboxed it and tried it in free flight, and I can honestly say this thing does NOT lose tracking! I leaned back and tilted my head almost completely up so I'm looking at the canopy bow inverted and it was still tracking :megalol: I imagine it will perform similarly well in fights. Thanks for this awesome product!
  4. Where is the preorder button?! I'm throwing money at the screen and it doesn't work. :(
  5. If you mostly play DCS I would not upgrade CPU at this point. If I didn't burn my i5 2500k a couple years back I would've stuck with that. I think the best thing to do right now is to wait to see what happens in the next 1-2 years with multi core support in DCS. Also since AMD seem to have pushed out some competitive products it might destroy the Intel monopoly and they might actually decide to develop something. Instead of selling essentially overpriced cosmetics. :D
  6. Unfortunately ( or fortunately?) both PG278QRs had dead pixels and other issues that they had in store and they aren't even sure if they'll recieve any further ones at all, let alone within a reasonable timeframe. Apparently there is a pretty much identical version from ACER, the XB271HUa. Luckily out of the 2 they had in store, one was pretty much perfect so I went in to check it in person and pulled the trigger on the deal. It'll be delivered on friday, can't wait. :) #144hz master race :megalol:
  7. That's entirely possible. Guess a more clear set of rules is in order.. :)
  8. I meant at the start. Everyone ferried from Kutaisi ASAP and when we landed I remember Stuge and his wingman took off and everyone else was stuck on the ground waiting :D As for the rest I had no idea but I'm sure everything had a reason. It was hilarious and unnerving at the same time to hold on pattern for 5+ minutes with < 1k lbs fuel. I was going to fly one more circle and land regardless if you gave me the go or not. :D Next time we will have these experiences to help and also probably more time to plan. You did great, regardless.
  9. FYI reds also had to wait 10/20 minutes after being shot down. Every 104th kept that rule, I cannot speak for the rest.
  10. As long as my flight is visible on the MFD with heading/alt and so are the bandits spotted by my flight with the same format I'll be happy. Anything on top of this will be just luxury. Screw JHMCS and XRAY, being able to see exactly where your friendlies are and the bandits they spotted too even if extending will be far more powerful than anything else you can strap on a plane.
  11. I didn't ask for any BRAA and I haven't heard any from any of us either. No idea about the rest of the groups in red. To be honest there was basically next to no coordination between squads on red, which suited the mission this time. Even the ATC felt very awkward and more of a burden than a benefit because I felt as if neither of the pilots had a clue on how to do it right. I'm confident this will improve over time if we continue with it, but it was pretty detrimental for whole redfor to be grounded for more than 15 minutes on Tbilisi just because the rest of the planes were still arriving. Especially considering the airfield has 2 runways. I think this ATC vs GCI was a bit unclear, also I recall Mike saying ATC would only see friendly aircraft (guess not). I landed on Kutaisi without any contact to ATC as I thought it makes no sense in hell to ask Tbilisi ATC for a different airfield. Suddenly all I hear is Coxy yelling at me :D Overall it was quite fun.
  12. That's the opposite of what I want. Besides, I'm not going to gamble my eyesight on some tech that's barely out for a few years.
  13. Finally found a shop that provides full pixel warranty and also calibrates the thing. I think I'm going to go with the 278QR. One more question to the guys who own it: I've read about certain overheating issues. Do you have any experience with that?
  14. This is not really how it works tbh. While having more peripherial vision is not a bad thing necessarly, in this case it can easily distract you and you have a much wider FoV which makes it harder to focus. If you're not preaimed at the right spot chances are you won't make a flick across the screen before the other guy kills you. Most professionals use 4:3 with black bars or strech it across the screen, although in my opinion is mainly because of how muscle memory works. Some of these people played over a decade before 16:9 was a thing so it doesn't make sense to throw all that training out the window. This is great to hear. AFAIK it's somehow possible to get rid of the input lag due to G-Sync in games where you can limit your frames, but I don't really know if it actually works. In any case I'll probably use ULMB in FPS. My biggest concern is if the brightness will be enough. I think all my candidates are 8 bit, although I'm not 100% sure. I'm a pretty avid anti VR person mostly because I don't beleive for a second that this is as harmless to your eye as looking at a standard screen. The shitty resolution and insane performance requirements don't make me a fan either. Question to the 278Q owners: have you tried ULMB? It's probably pointless in DCS but I'm sure you play other games too. I wonder how bad the brightness loss is at normal day conditions.
  15. 21:9 is not an option for me because I need it for FPS types too, not only DCS :) Although I'm sure it looks real good. I have a buddy who owns something similar and he told me it's sick! Interestingly enough, in my own experience, the screen area seems to be inversely proportional to it's usefulness. After switching to 16:9 I always felt it was much easier to focus on things on a 5:4 than anything wide screen.
  16. Hey guys! I'm looking to get a new screen and I'm sort of in a spot where I can't make up my mind anymore. I think I've reached the point of reading too many reviews :D Current setup is a 1440p@60hz IPS 27" with i5 4690k and a GTX 980. Target is to play DCS and an FPS that's name ends in "offensive" Key features that I look for: - 27" / 1440p / 144hz - blur reduction (i.e. ULMB/DyAc) - this is mostly for FPS - although I have no experience I strongly believe G-Sync would be vital to an improved DCS experience - fast response time - again for PFS There are a few candidates I have: 1) ASUS PG278QR 2) ASUS PG279Q 3) BenQ XL2735 4) DELL S2716DG 5) ACER XB271HU I also made a post on reddit with a little more details, I'll try not to make a wall of text here: https://redd.it/6v44li Here I'll try to be more DCS oriented. I have a few questions that will be difficult to find answers for elsewhere. a) User experience with any of the models mentioned (or other worthy alternatives) is greatly appreciated. b) How big is the disparity between 8 bit color quality TN panels and IPS in DCS? c) Is there any drawback of using a TN panel with TrackIR? I suspect there could be substantianl gamma or color shift when tilting/moving your head. On the TN vs IPS debate I have a weird experience overall. I used 19" TN 5:4 for many years and it was flawless. Particularly in DCS it was a lot easier to spot certain things (like missile trails for instance), although this could easily be an artifact of the changed smoke trails. d) How well does G-Sync work with DCS? I'm typically in the range of 30-80 frames depending on whether I'm on the ground or not. I suppose it could be a huge difference. e) Severe ghosting of AHVA IPS panels of this type. Is this true?
  17. -25 deg elevation sounds like a bitch to use. +-85 horizontal on the other hand.. you could practically notch people while still guiding :D If the elevation is true I already see the inverted Cats flying around trying to find the tree huggers. :megalol:
  18. I'd say this is just the result of technological evolution. There's so much shit you'd have to be a maniac to understand all of it. A pretty gifted one at that.
  19. I'm gonna have to start interviewing for a RIO soon. Gonna be damn impossible to find one that I can trust and also knows all this. I bet they'll be expecting to be paid by the hour. :megalol:
  20. I've seen so many ERs hit me after the platform has been blown to hell that I'm starting to believe this is all magic. :D I remember the good old days where you had to manually follow the target in TWS otherwise it would lose the bug when it went outside elevation limits. The funniest part is that almost none of the Eagle drivers knew about this.. :D
  21. You should put DCS on the SSD, damn the cost. The difference it makes in loading is incredible. Besides, the wear is not significant. I'm running a 850 EVO too I think and I'm around ~ 1 TB over a year ( or more I can't recall when I bought it). Set up temporary stuff and environment to a normal HDD, hell I even linked my user directory to the HDD (although that was a bit of a bitch to do) and that should reduce the amount of load. Installing random stuff to the HDD and only putting the important and power hungry stuff on the SSD can also help.
  22. I think he meant that after launch you stay in HPRF and only use MPRF if the target is getting near the beam or cold. Could be an interesting theory to test..
  23. Yep, but maybe it's only possible to tweak the notch multiplier? I don't know, I'm in the dark with modding in DCS.
  24. That sounds like some nice anti-realism. :D @Ragnarok: don't take this the wrong way, I just meant it as a harmless joke.
