  1. In the DCS 1.5 open beta, we did get an option (in the Mi-8 special options menu) to have the flight engineer help us flying stable by adjusting the SBS/autopilot system for us. What do we think about it? I for one found it difficult not to side-slip just after I made a turn. This resulted in several failures to hit one of the targets in the target practice mission in the campaign. So I for once like to turn it off. It did help me to fly straight and level. But I think it needs some time to fully adjust the Mi-8 to fly straight and without sideslip. So I don't use this option anymore. Because if you set the angle of the blades at "7" it pretty much flies straight and level for you anyways. I immediatly felt better control when I turned this option off and I was able to hit both the targets in mission 3 in the campaign. Any opinions?
  2. In one of the campaign missions, You have to ferry an old Mi-8 to a depot for inspection and repair. Halfway through the flight, one of the engines is dying. For some weird reason, the other engine goes way over the 100% RPM if you lower the pitch of your blades. Only by raising the pitch, it lowers RPM's. It is weird and a bit difficult to decend because of that.
  3. Will the 3D model change some more? I am asking because I made some skins and they must be adapted for the 'new' 3D model. So far there are changes in the area between the air intake and canopy, the windshield, behind the cockpit canopy and on the gear doors and air-brakes. Will there be more changes to the 3D model, or will it stay the same so I can start to adapte the skins to the new 1.5 model?
  4. I will test it out later. But maybe you can take-off and try to fly off in the proper direction before the AI? Just to give you a headstart. Following AI choppers into the mountains is horribly difficult! Messing with those missions is not recommended. You can mess-up the scripts as well and the mission becomes unplayable. IIRC you can give the blades about 13, maybe 14 degrees of pitch before the RPM's are too low and the generators cut out. Or maybe you can perform a rolling start? This is done on a regular basis on real-life operational Mi-8 as well. Also, disabelling anti-ice and dust-protection gives you some extra power.
  5. Most english cockpit mods are basically just textures, not really worthy of the term 'mod'. Plain bitmaps are compatible with any version. However, I thought Aviodev updated their cockpit textures. An old english cockpit 'mod' is based on the old and ugly textures. And it is still in beta. So most probably, they will make adjustments to (cockpit) textures again. My spanish isn't all that bad. But english language helped me very much in the Leatherneck MiG-21. So I understand your point of view. Now i don't use the english cockpit anymore because i like to have an authentic experience and I learned all the switches anyways. Ps... the 'old' cockpit textures weren't really all that ugly. They were quite nice. I was just making a point. :pilotfly: Pps: He aprendiendo Inglés por el canción: "Salsa tequilla" Puedes hacerlo lo mismo.
  6. Is that the cockpit of the MiG-21 Phantom, starring in the movie: Iron Eagle II? :music_whistling::lol::clown_2:
  7. I'm Dutch, but I am also all in for authentic experiences. THANKS! :)
  8. There is really no other information right now.
  9. Several missions in the campaign are rather flawed. I suggest you add a few SEAD aircraft yourself. The mission succes seems to be based on amount the destroyed SAM sites. But since jamming isn't really working right now, you can't really do anything.
  10. You should disable the "Custom cockpit" setting in the MiG-21 special options and enable "english cockpit" in the general options. Mind you, not all texts are in english. But most of them are.
  11. Are you sure you didn't disable the mirror in midflight? It might 'freeze' the image in the mirror. Also, that nosecone doesn't look healthy at all!
  12. The reflectivness of the glass is defenitly much stronger. But I do not have the same issue. It looks more like a half tinted glass to me. I'm not sure I like it, but it doesn't look like that with my installation. (It is a fresh 1.5 open-beta install, no mods Mi-8 mods installed) Also, the windows from the inside look much more dirtier. It looks like it has been dragged through a puddle or something. I think it should be a bit cleaner. It might be a small issue with the new rendering engine, I don't think they changed a lot to the opacity of the windows on the Mi-8.
  13. That's understandable. But if you can spare the extra 10 to 20GB of space on your HD, it is well worth to install the open-beta. It is not prefect, small issues do exist, but it is very enjoyable. It is like a brand new game!!! With all the good stuff from the 'old' game. It takes minimal time to adjust, because most of the controls (except the joystick axis and button assignments) are taken over from the old game.
  14. Does it work like an 'axis' on the real MiG-21 too?
  15. Can u bring back the keypress 1= on and keypress 2 = off function for some of the switches? It is far easier for us panel builders.
  16. Each time I start the campaign "Defender of the Caucasus", the AI MiG-21's show a see-trough/black squares were the TAC numbers are placed. I did not mess with the description.lua for this skin. If I jump in the AI plane via the Ralt+J command, it stays the same. But the MiG-21 I start out with does not have this problem. Also, after changing skins, the problem is still the same. So, it can not be in de descriptions.lua from the skin. I think it is a weird 3D and artwork problem. It doesn't really ruin gameplay. It just looks a bit odd.
  17. I use the standard "P" key and it works like a charm. You can also loose your parachute in mid-flight if you push the appropriate button. Landing and coming to a stop within the runway length without chute is not impossible. But the option of the parachute always feels very safe to me.
  18. I have selected "english" cockpit, wich gives me english tooltips. But I also have the option "custom cockpit livery" enabled wich gives me russian labels, for an authentic feeling.
  19. That's horrible, Mike! Try de-activating the MiG-21 module and remove every thrace from it manually from your Harddrive. Then Re-install through the module manager. I think it is somekind of bug with the shiny layers. I had a similar problem like that myself, only with the outside textures. But I managed to fix it. Dunno how...
  20. Is there a volume control for the pipper tone? I find it is a bit quiet in 1.5.
  21. It has Always been an option. But IIRC, you need to release it in level-flight to be effective, if you dive on the target too much, the bomb just ploughs itself into the ground without exploding. And because there is no reliable way of deliviring the bomb in level-flight in the MiG-21, nobody really uses it.
  22. Not sure if this is a bug or not. But it looks quite dramatic. It has happened a few times now. This shot was taken at an altitude of just under 8000 meters (F2 view) It is the puff of black smoke if you throttle down and the afterburner cuts out, but it puffs continiously. The black smoke is gone after moving the throttle a bit.
  23. The new EDGe makes everything better. :) and i still got to try the new sling/cargo thingy. EDGE completly transforms the game. It is awesome. Also, thanks to Belsimtek for keeping to improve the Mi-8 module!
  24. So... Might be that the Finnish airforce used them?
  25. It is kind of handy in single missions to know where you need to go etcetra!
