Mi-8 landing help thread
1.JaVA_Platypus replied to Cibit's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Agreed! Never used the autopilot for a steady hoover really. But it can be useful. Now that would be an awesome task for a flight engineer to adjust the autopilot, nice feature in multiplayer missions with multicrew! I once had it trimmed-out, only using the middle stability channel and the stick trimmer so that I had a perfect hoover. But it requires a great deal of concentration and constant tiny adjustments to keep it that way. -
That was awesome!

Can't see the images!!

I NEVER use the RH50 and RH51 switches, those are for the rocket boosters if you have them equiped. I don't know if they interfere with the Chaff/Flare release, but I leave them down always. (If they point aft, they are in the off position) I often find it usefull to hold the LH60 button for a second or two. Also, I do use the default "insert" button on my keyboard for dropping countermeasures. I do not have it assigned to my joystick.

Edit: continuing discussion in the other chaff/flare thread. -
Here you go!

You must first open-up the drag-chute disconnect guard. It guards the actual disconnect switch from accidentally being pressed. It is somewhere behind the Throttle. It is black. Wait a minute and I'll have a screenshot ready.

I'm sorry, but I have to ask, do you remove the red safety cap first?

Mi-8 landing help thread

Don't forget, setting the Heading autopilot channel will hold your current heading when you release the rudder pedals. It is a GREAT help during hoover and landing. But a bit trickyer then you might think on take-off. It is the left most green button on the pedestal. -
I think if you are happy with the amount of chaff/flare given at the start of the mission (the amount wich is set by the mission editor) Chaff and flare works fine. But if you change it via the reload/F8 menu ingame, the chaff/flare dispensor does not work.

And to think I specially modified my Warthog so that my pinky switch also controls a potmeter for assigning the brakes to. :joystick:

Seen in 1.5.something. AI wingman got one or two SA-9's for breakfast. :music_whistling: I did send him home and he landed happily and taxied to the ramp without a hitch. I was a bit afraid he would tumble and crash upon touching the runway. But none of that! Might be a bug, touchdown and taxi without wheels, might be just another example of the A10's awesomeness!
-
IIRC, writing force-feedback isn't that hard. I toyed with it a long time ago. But since I got the Warthog, I haven't really done anything with it.
-
Cool vid! I really like the Croatian emblem, the helmet with the big plume and the crest underneath. Not pretentious, but looking very chivalry like, it radiates pride and profesionalism!
-
I do this pretty much all of the time without any issues! :music_whistling: Remember, the MiG-21 was designed as an interceptor and could be started up and ready for taxi within a minute! I assume there are safeties in place that really starts to warm up the radar and other avionics when the proper Voltages and Frequencies were achieved by the engine's generator. The MiG-21 will be just fine when you start flicking switches right after the engine-start button is pushed. Only the radar needs to be in standby mode for a few minutes. But that is okay since it is useless below 1 or 2 km of altitude anyways.

What JANSGI said, AND the engine needs to be running IIRC...

mi-8 VERY jerky/jumpy on takeoff in 2.0

Did you set some curvature on the axis?? -
I did just copy the lines in the Warthog-Throttle.lua and tested it a bit. It works like a charm. Why it didn't work with my own lines of code, I don't know.
-
I did just that. I managed to change the Joystick\Default.lua file for the L-39 with exactly the same lines. Except that when I use this ingame, I managed to get all of the three flap buttons to be continiously pressed. This achieves nothing in the game. If you look carefully to the keyboard commands, you press a flap key and it performs, let's say, action 1. (Flaps flight position) After the key is released, it goes to action 4. This is the release of the button. So, if you change the default.lua with the lines in the thread suggested above, the flap buttons never get un-pressed or released. That is why it is impossible to bind the flaps to the warthog flap lever.
-
I used some kind of profile for a while as well. But if you want to fly the A-10C afterwards, you are basically screwed. So, I want to edit the joystick\default.lua to perform the same actions. But I can not get it to work properly. I managed to press all of the Flap buttons at once with the flap-handle on the TM warthog and the customized commands. But that won't do anything usefull in the game. I got the flap handle to work for the MiG-21, but the LUA files are coded differently.
-
Yeah. Flying and landing on one wing should definitly possible. The other wing is only there to handle all the bombs and stuf...

No gunsight glass.

I think I know what is going on. 1.2 liveries are not compatible with 1.5 liveries. Most liveries that are available as download are for 1.2. And I think some textures got messed-up with your specific livery. I can see the screenshot is made with DCS 1.5 because it has the aircraft numbers on them. A Blank metal livery is provided in 1.5, painting on the Serbian markings is easy. And a very good tutorial on how to make the tac-numbers visible (or hide them) is provided here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=148308
