That's a fair point. Particles and sprites are of another age of smoke and mirrors but I doubt any volumetric rendering could produce a believable weather system with the current computing power. But I do hope ED's plans will prove me wrong. At the time, the perlin noise system was pretty innovative and effective.

I just want to imagine in DCS. Please fasten your jaw before watching.

No need to go all BRRRRT on Sokol, really. He's a very helpful and friendly guy ;) I'm pretty sure he didn't mean it's not clever or justified to ask for a modern dual-throttle, but just pointed out there would be an active demand on the propeller/WW2 market. That said, VKB already suggested they're working on two different throttle projects and a modern versatile one is definitely on the list. The problem with our niche-market is that they have to aim as precisely as possible to have the opportunity to create more high quality products in the future. Even Thrustmaster is not such a big company and they have to cross their fingers for their new products. There's one powerful way to support VKB and it's with money. (I'd be Trump-rich, I'd know a company I'd support heavily ;) )

A VKB WW2 throttle would be a sensible choice, so it could be paired with their WW2 grip offer and attract/please a vast community. On the other hand, (and imo), the modern (dual)throttle raises interest because, even if the Warthog throttle as some interesting features, it's a replica (less versatile) and lack different controls we'd like to see for the modern jets and space sims (rotaries, quality slew/tdc control, …). Features-wise, I still prefer the X55/X56 dual throttle, but the quality and accuracy/precision is subpar (especially compared to what VKB is able to product (+ magnetoresistive sensors)). There will probably be a considerable demand in the next year(s) as there are several sims/games on their way (DCS F/A-18C + Su-33 naval operations, (third parties modern jets?), FSX/P3D/XPlane/Dovetail Flight Sim/…, Star Citizen, Elite Dangerous, Rogue System, etc.). I don't know how the market will evolve but the forums are not the most reliable tool to estimate the potential success and demand for a specific controller, as only a small part of the users express their interest there. Thrustmaster has already set its plans with a well-placed (imho) throttle (space sim-friendly, not particularly expensive, and still attractive for the modern fighters (but not a dual-throttle)). Whatever happens, I'll probably buy a VKB WW2 throttle, even if I rarely fly WW2 aircraft, at least to support them (and I'm already waiting to put my hands on the Gladiator). One thing for sure: I'd love to see (and buy) a high quality dual-throttle with clever ergonomics, a quality analog ministick, rotaries, hats/rockers/switches, magnetoresistive sensors (MaRS) everywhere and a powerful controller with programming capabilities (NJoy32) (and with modular design in mind) ;) (it would be very close to perfection in my book)

Installing dampers on the axes would be a treat. I'm pretty sure VKB has already thought about that but as always it's probably all about production cost and mechanical effectiveness, reliability and refinement. VO101_MMaister used viscous dampers on a custom gimbal and flight stick. The result is very interesting, to say the least. [ame=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihMyFlaBOac][damping effect video][/ame] It would be fantastic to see something similar offered as an option for the future VKB gimbals (Gunfighter or any future gimbal evolution) (and if it could be adapted to the current gimbal design).

Too soon! You're not supposed to crush the competition so fast :music_whistling: Great piloting skills, great video editing and camera angles! If ED wanted some cool promotion video, they got one ;) (and too bad we don't have those fluid camera movements/zoom in-engine)
-
Congratz! It's looking great! I can only imagine the accuracy and finesse improvement of the axes. The FBM has been originally designed to be used on a desk but you should be able to use some of the controls on the base for several pre-flight systems. Also, but that would require some tinkering, you could link those controls on a side controls box in the future. Great installation!

Thanks for sharing those pictures, Mustang  (just found out via Reddit) Even if the volumetric clouds look more interesting in a way, they're still very blurry and, imho, it affects the perception of scale and distance. It must be awfully difficult to develop a convincing clouds rendering technique. The Ace Combat 7 teaser showed some interesting clouds but I'm not sure it's the engine rendering alone (and not CGI).

Thanks! I just found out in that thread and forgot to report here.

DCS 2.0.2 Help disabling an unwanted graphic
Bourrinopathe replied to BazLightyear's topic in DCS: L-39 Albatros
Thanks a lot, both of you! I was desperately searching how to disable that graphic. By the way, do you know how to find what all the curves mean? (I assume it's AoA, Gs, IAS and such?) -
What a great idea! The Albatros is a lovely bird and so beautifully modeled in DCS. As I already own almost every module and don't have the time to participate with a proper attempt and a decent video, I'd like to share that rough take: >>> not participating <<< >>> not participating <<< Maybe this will give some crazy ideas to some participants ;) Good luck everyone! (also if anyone knows how to remove that graph I'd appreciate the info)

Any way to improve Anisotropic filtering?

Thanks for checking SkateZilla  Here's what I have on-screen (uncompressed .png - cropped screenshot + resized full screen for reference). -
Any way to improve Anisotropic filtering?
Bourrinopathe replied to Ala12Rv-watermanpc's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Good point! It might be mipmap related, indeed. Since the comments, I checked no AF and AF x16 and didn't notice any difference in the distance (the runway markings progressively disappear). It's nothing "game-breaking" anyway. Even if it could be nicer and then more realistic (distance/scale perception). At least it's not some kind of ugly clipping with textures or models popping-in (that's horrible). (it should also be easy to find the texture and remove the additional mipmap levels to confirm it's the culprit, but I doubt it's worth the effort) -
Any way to improve Anisotropic filtering?
Bourrinopathe replied to Ala12Rv-watermanpc's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Bump. Same issue (?) here. I thought something was incorrectly configured on my side but I think it looks like I can't apply any AF (in-game setting or NVidia panel). It's particularly noticeable when aligned on a runway or during NOE flights. If there's a known solution, I'll gladly head to the related thread ;) (I'm using a GTX 970 GPU + i5 3570K, latest drivers (368.22), W10 64) -
Thanks for the details and the correction about the potential yaw axis sensor upgrade (I must have read that wrong, indeed). Same opinion here. Not showing an essential part of that kind of controller will bring more hesitation from "seasoned" flight sim enthusiasts. But I also understand it will focus interest on the other features and attract other customers, less curious about the internals. It's obvious, the classic Gladiator gimbal is not as refined as the Pro version and the recent cam design. But despite the quality, plastics mechanical parts could be misjudged and, overall, I understand why it's been decided not to show that widely. Anyway. First thing I'll do is to remove the base plate and take several pictures (and post them) :D Also: no idea but (he) definitely has a lot to do ;) (my guess is Jason Williams from Stratojet has a lot to do with the recent communication) And it's a shame European customers won't have access to the standard non-mutilated Gladiator. That MaRS yaw and the full NJoy32 controller are two significant features. Not that the Cobra V6 is a bad stick in any way. But definitely less attractive.
-
Yes ;) That's a unique feature I enjoy with the NJoy32-based devices. Just plug'n'play with the desired profile. Even with whatever keyboard inputs and the like. I was thinking about reconfiguring my Black Mamba for the Su-27 (I fly the most) with the specific keyboard inputs, so no update would mess with my commands anymore :) ----- [EDIT: I just stumbled upon that video from the Asian partner. It's not the Gladiator but a reworked (and simplified) version named Cobra V6: Based on that video the 8-way hat is non-clickable. Unlike the Gladiator's MaRS, the Cobra v6 yaw axis uses a potentiometer. But it can be replaced by a [EDIT: Hall sensor (thx Sokol)] (DIY). The max resolution advertised is 12-bit (4096 values per axis). The firmware is much simpler and allows limited settings (deadzones, calibration, precision level (n-bit)) (not NJoy32 Pro). Also, the gimbal suggested by the video looks like the Warthog Hall effect ball-type - it's not ^_^ From what I've gathered the Gladiator gimbal is close to the CH Products gimbal (no idea about the centering feeling). And of course, the Cobra V6 is cheaper ($15-20 less than the Gladiator price tag ($100)).]

Good to know it was nothing serious. A 5 months old system should be in great shape ;) Take care. -
[RETIRED] ME Aircraft Payload Preview Overhaul
Bourrinopathe replied to uboats's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Yes it looks like PSU/CPU overheating or failure. Did you check for excessive dust or anything preventing a sufficient heat dissipation? A failing CPU fan could also trigger a thermal event. If it's a PSU failure, it would be useful to test another PSU. -

I'm joining the pack to praise your work, uboats! I was craving for this for so long. And now the payloads! Just… wonderful. -
FC3 SU27 exterior canopy glass bug??
Bourrinopathe replied to Ala12Rv-watermanpc's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
No worries. It's not fixed in DCS 2 open alpha either ;) (what you've seen is the specular lighting) -
There's still a way to use more commands with a shift button, but that's definitely not as comfortable as a modern grip.
-
Just ask VKB to mount the right cam profile for you when you order. That should not be a problem.
-
They should advertise the workout as a feature ;) I don't own a VR but the way I see it, you can't rotate your eyeballs as much as you will in real life to check your six. You turn your head. Having a way to amplify the max rotation to watch behind you should be interesting. I'm curious how many games/simulation use that check six behavior.

Question for the X55 Saitek owners
Bourrinopathe replied to Lenux's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'm using a significant response curve (30) with the zoom view rotary. It feels less jittery and more comfortable (unless you use the maximum values a lot ;) ). Just a crutch but it eases the pain.
