Introducing the VKB-Sim ‘Modern Combat Grip’ (MCG)
Bourrinopathe replied to rrohde's topic in VKB-SIM Flight Gear
Not yet. Most of VKB's energy is focused on the Gunfighter and the MCG (+ sekrit). ;) -
Sounds good. Thanks for the info Sokol1

Introducing the VKB-Sim ‘Modern Combat Grip’ (MCG)
Bourrinopathe replied to rrohde's topic in VKB-SIM Flight Gear
Iirc, the foldable trigger is also used in the Su-27 to switch to the cannon mode, changing the symbology on the HUD (and perhaps the slaved OLS tracking, I can't remember). Definitely useful and usable for different simulations, space sim included. I would also love to test a thumb trackball on the grip and on the throttle. But it's probably more appropriate for the R&D department, than for a final consumer product. Evolution is a very slow process ;) On the other hand, I think Clould Imperium (Star Citizen) was planning to get some trackballs on their dedicated controllers/HOTAS in collaboration with Saitek. There are some renders somewhere. (sometimes you can enforce evolution too !) -
Introducing the VKB-Sim ‘Modern Combat Grip’ (MCG)

So some people (and VKB?) are focusing on the sound it does? Not the tactile feel when you press the button? (because it's rather obvious a real (fighter) pilot won't ear (and refer to) any *click* *click* *click* sound with the helmet, radio, engine, etc.) (even so, a home flight simulator has different requirements and considerations, ergonomics environment, etc.) -
I never used MMJoy2 but I'd be really happy to see some "advanced" functions like long press, delays, macros, modifiers and such. That would be wonderful and definitely a significant asset if you manage to pull off a decent user interface. 13-bit resolution is way beyond sufficient with the max extension length and the stick angles. Congratulations!

Introducing the VKB-Sim ‘Modern Combat Grip’ (MCG)
Bourrinopathe replied to rrohde's topic in VKB-SIM Flight Gear
Imho, it's not about the sound but the tactile/mechanical feel. The noticeable snapping feel when a button is activated. That's a great way to know the command has been sent, and if nothing happens, you know something's wrong - not that your device might be faulty. For example, both triggers on the Black Mamba/Cobra grip use snap-action micro-switches - a very clever choice (imo). On the other hand, sometimes I'm struggling with my X55 throttle as I don't know if a button has been pressed. Of course it also depends on the buttons quality. The Gladiator buttons feel nice and the trigger also has that "clicky" feel to it. I can understand why some users don't like the sound though. Playing with a headset helps, I guess. In any case, any HOTAS should be as reliable as possible and I'm convinced an appropriate tactile/mechanical feedback is really important. The X55 throttle buttons lacks that kind of reliability so hard that it makes me want to squeeze its little neck until its eyes pop-out :D (sorry for the nasty picture - but that's how bad it feels) I really hope the MCG will get that right and I'm confident it will. -
Introducing the VKB-Sim ‘Modern Combat Grip’ (MCG)

It's interesting it can be implemented. I already asked VKB if that function was possible but didn't get any response. That could be used for different functions like a safety position but also activating a specific mode, triggering a macro, etc. I'd assume the lack of haptic/mechanical feedback could be a reasonable trade-off imo, as long as the function in the sim is significant enough. Another solution would be to add a sound effect using softwares like VoiceAttack (switching the trigger would send an input to VA and that would be translated as a keyboard input + sound effect). -
Beautiful photos and devices! Congratz to the team! Everything looks great.

Thanks for the subtitles! I hope we'll have the opportunity to see some details about the gimbal soon! It looks really promising!

Introducing the VKB-Sim ‘Modern Combat Grip’ (MCG)

I'd also like to have a 4-way clickable switch under the thumb. It would be very comfortable to control the CMs or any semi-essential systems (flight sim/space sim). The MCG general design is heavily inspired from the Su-35/PAK FA grip while offering some versatility, and the Russian controls/HOTAS tend to keep things simple and focused on the essential controls (not the F-35 HOTAS complexity - but both aircraft systems are also obviously different). Afaik, that push button under the thumb on the Su-35 grip is to cancel a task (сброс задачи) (whatever that means). Quick action. That's also why I'm not inclined to use a 4-way clickable side hat with my index extended (less dexterity than the thumb with the lateral movements). It's just a guess, but I think the side switch on the Su-35 grip is a missile type/mode selector (WVR/BVR or IR/RDR) (labeled РК (ракета?)). Dumb-proof controls can be life saving in tense situations. But we're only using simulators so maybe more options can be good. ----- Here's a reference I made a while ago (pseudo-translated from the known Russian picture), but I'm absolutely not sure about some of the controls: -
I'd also love to see improvements on the simulation features when it comes to clouds and weather. The visuals should be a much lower priority (imho) (and believable, realistic looking clouds would require a lot of work, time, and budget). Synced clouds in MP is a great example. We can't dive/hide in the clouds in the current state and it would add a nice tactical layer to the sim (or just good fun and some common visual references while flying with our buddies/wingmen).

Fantastic info Gekko312! Thanks a lot for your insight. I'm sure some of us will have more questions about the L-39!
-
That's most probably to avoid structural damages. Also the flaps deployed in the landing position adds a "nose up" trim deflection, so the pitch attitude difference between the two positions (landing/flight) is somewhat reduced. From what I've read, the throttle is mechanical and pretty simple with no damping. The flight manual also repeatedly indicates the throttle should be operated with care. It's also supposed to be "responsive". I can't confirm that though. Here's a L-39 throttle on EBay. (it looks suspicious) About the ejection handles: That should answer your question ;) Squeeze both handles (and paddles) and pull until the sequence is triggered.

VKB Gladiator Pro - Quick Review
Bourrinopathe replied to SVgamer72's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
As a Gladiator's owner and a Black Mamba's owner (with that very same gimbal up there), the difference is considerable. About the metal gimbal: One very important thing for me is that it's dead precise. No deadzone. (the default one is 0.3% for both axes). Each movement is the same every time, the metallic parts and the ball bearings exclude any perceptible variation. (more than 2 years in, and still 0.3% deadzone with zero issue) And: you can customize the feeling. I currently (mainly) fly fighter/attack jets (and the beautiful L-39) and if I tried the smooth centering for both axes for a few months, I'm happy to come back to my original configuration with a hard center for the roll axis and a smooth center for the pitch axis (using the average stiffness for both springs). And don't forget the progressive resistance for the axes: That means I know if I'm pulling too much Gs. It provides some very useful proprioceptive and tactile feedback. And: swappable grips. Warthog, vintage KG-12, Cobra grip, future modern grip, etc. Also, and very important: durability. Metal won't wear as fast as solid butter. That being said, I'm very happy with my Gladiator and it feels smooth and precise. I use it for the WW2 airplanes and Elite Dangerous (twist grip!). -
Great addition! Grand merci ! It helps switching from solo to MP in no time.

Same here. I truly love that bird! And I also own almost every module (all of them except for: Spit, Gazelle, C101 and the Hawk). As you all said, the module is beautifully crafted, the flight model feels very close to reality (thought shared by actual L-39 pilots, iirc), the graphics are very well executed (that extra fake and dynamic reflection on the instruments glass is very welcome), and it's just a delight to fly. …and there's no gloomy secret-defense matter all over it ;) I also think the limited power, aerodynamics and instruments versatility help you understand how to fly efficiently, developing your skills. Just don't engage a MiG-15Bis. You'll understand why it's been developed as a trainer. Yes, there's no campaign, and yes, the training missions are not that deep, but, in my humble opinion, if you can afford it, just buy it (even at full price = more support for ED). Just be aware it's not a powerful fighter or an attack aircraft. Shooting rockets in the ZA is still really fun though. Go for it!

Большое спасибо! Another fantastic addition! That will help a lot both while learning the Mi-8 and just going through the startup. (and I'd suggest using VoiceAttack or similar voice recognition software for those new commands)

I didn't get any drop tank for the tests. ;) Oh ok thanks. Your comment made me understand what's happening. (I just ran a quick test in the sim for confirmation) If the aircraft is spawned with the default configuration (84% fuel), the wing-tips tanks are empty. I thought the wing-tip tanks would be at full capacity as long as you have more than 625-680 kg + the wing-tip tanks quantity (roughly 160 kg) (in order to match the fuel consumption sequence) (around 625-680 on the gauge but close to 785-840 kg in total). (with 100% fuel, the wing-tip tanks light is OFF until the gauge shows around 600 kg (in my mission) for a few minutes - then the light comes on and the needle starts moving again) I didn't read the whole manual yet, so maybe that's how the L-39 (and other aircraft?) is/are refueled in general (if the fuel quantity is inferior to the maximum capacity/value)? Or is there some kind of discrepancy? At least, it wasn't intuitive for me. Thanks for your help!

As I didn't find any other thread related to the wing-tip tanks light (caution and advisory lights panel), I'd like to ask why the light is ON (label: БАКИ) with the fuel gauge showing 800+ kg? (tested in DCS v1.5.6, L-39C) As I know the light may illuminate due to insufficient bleed air pressure, I put the wheel chocks and pushed the RPM above 100% during the tests. The light only goes OFF if the fuel quantity is set above 83-84%. Unless I didn't understand the sequence and behavior correctly, I'd expect: - to see the needle stop around 625-680 kg for about 15 minutes while the fuel from the wing-tip tanks is fed to the engine and delivery tank - then the light would show up with the needle still around 625-680 kg - and then the fuel gauge would show the rest of the fuel being progressively consumed I can't see if it's a bug or a feature. Please help! What did I get wrong?

Tiny errors with floating screw heads: L-39C without the gunsight: L-39ZA: (it looks like it could be attached somewhere on the left console but I didn't notice a missing screw) Those are just details but I hope that post will help for a future update.

What is still broken/missing on the L-39
Bourrinopathe replied to GeorgeLKMT's topic in Bugs and Problems
cockpit 3D models errors As I'm not sure it's already been reported, I'll add two cockpit models "imperfections": L-39C without the gunsight (floating screw head): L-39ZA (floating screw head) (it looks like it could be attached somewhere on the left console but I didn't notice a missing screw) Those are just details but I hope that post will help for a future update. -
DCS World Weekend News Update Discussion
Bourrinopathe replied to terminator363's topic in Chit-Chat
Afaik, they've just added the missing handle. There's no animation for it in the .edm cockpit model, and no specific binding in the controls options. -
Excellent idea and addition to the simulation! Thanks! I'd like to see that option for other modules (especially during take-off and landing for several aircraft).
